  1. THIS is where I have to go to find out about it. I'm glad I finally found the forum. The main Second Life page stopped bothering to give notice. Now I see you get one hours notice, randomly made in UTC than the old Pacific time, aka SL Time. If these are known and planned, maybe the grid status on the homepage can update a lot sooner than right at restart time, and use SL time instead of random new timezones?
  2. After the update, my LeTigre sim is missing, not rezzing most of the prims. And you cannot leave the sim without being logged out. I even restarted my computer in case of a ram issue. The exact same prims have gone missing when I walk over or TP into the sim, making me believe it's not my issue as it is not random at all. The saddest part is, I can't remember where to post or report such issues. Last time I contacted chat support, I was told that Second Life has nothing to do with Second Life Beta Sims and there is no support for LeTigre, Bluesteel, etc. Ergo, they're useless. Edit: I downloaded a SL Beta viewer, and it seems to work fine. For some reason, I had these errors in Catznip only, which always worked fine. I had to redo my avatar even the issue was so bad. I'm not sure if there is a compatibility issue.
  3. I just reported a guy who land-cutted at auction to resell. LL didn't do anything but return 2 of my prims that I guess overlapped the abusers parcels by a millimeter. I assume it's another policy that is not enforced at all. Silly me for thinking that link is actually full of rules. So, the only rules are common sense. Don't impede air traffic or ground traffic. Make your security orb by a few seconds at least. Those 0 second ones are murder and annoying. There's a neat obilsk of mainland rules that people pass around.
  4. I think I shall bump this thread, to combine with my own thread from over the summer further down this very page. It is very interesting to think about how only 5 years ago, people were having this discussion, with some folks pointing out that if people would squat, LL wouldn't make money. I still have my multiple squatting neighbors on LL property. I have a new resident this month, as a newb, logs in everyday. I'm traveling around today, and as usual I see more people idling under bridges, and on other LL property than there are people on actual resident owned land. The ratio is staggering. I wonder how many more freeloaders I shall get next year at this exponential growth rate. Five or six years later, with more squatters than anything else, I've wondered how they've made it this far. Does SL at least get any commissions from so-called "residents" who have no payment information on file? I can't imagine how they are getting even linden transaction commisions from the under the bridge dwellers I'm seeing here. How exactly is SL staying around with this heavy drain and burden?
  5. I've been messing around with a lot of different build configurations this year, and even wrote down my own little framerate benchmarks in my town. Your biggest gain, switch to a 64 bit OS if you are on a 32. I was running a very very very old Intel (LGA 775 family), and the second I put in a 64bit version of windows from 32, I instantly ran smooth with shadows and all. Next, CPU, Doesn't actually have to be anything ultra-fancy. You got two options. I personally run an APU, and I do fine without even a graphics card. It used to be you couldn't even look at your email right without a graphics card, but no more. The new AMD A10-7870 and so will run this sucker amazingly. (which of course I see I didn't write those numbers down...). At ultra you're not getting 30fps, but living for years under an old 32-bit ram realm, it looks a little better. But in this situation you will want two identical ram sticks, to take advantage of dual-channels. I can't figure out if 8 gigs is really necessary, 4 may even do you. I run with 8 however. RAM isn't expensive as it used to be. You can do for 40-50 bucks for 8 nowadays. Now most people aren't too keen on such a situation. I did it as an experiment and it suits me in a beautiful mini-itx case on my desk. So more traditionally, I built a computer with an AMD FX series, quad core. Has a graphics card that's a pci 2.0 and not a 3.0. Framerates are: Low 80 low+1-79 Medium 60 +1-40 High is 26 and when you get to ultra it drops to 14. Notice below ultra is 17. there is always a drop between high and ultra that is the most drastic in every configuration. I've noticed that the biggest gain isn't so much the number of CUDA cores, and all of that, but it is the bit rate. I had a card that was supposed to have a high number of CUDA cores, and yada yada, but it was mistakingly 64 bit. I didn't pay attention years ago. But getting a 256 bit card really does it for you. Even two similar cards will give you an improvement from 128 to 256. And there is what I call the poor mans guide for SL configurations. Been meaning to do a real post when I get around to finishing the stats.
  6. I did a post in the other part of the forum a month ago about the mainland. https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Mainland/Mainland-Follies-squatters-pervs-and-the-new-normal/td-p/2957651 The one thing I am curious out, is this scenario: Someone owns a parcel of land for many many years. It either goes up for sale, and someone else buys it, or it just changes hands on day. Someone puts up a half built build, or a monstrosity. It gets abandoned hours, days, or one week later. I'm surrounded by this on all four sides, seeing it about 6 times, with a new one just a few weeks ago. What is up with that?!?!?!? They don't even bother to put it back on sale for even a day, just straight abandonment. But thank goodness I don't have any giant hearts around yet.
  7. Is this assuming that the new grid isn't one of those many projects LL doesn't abandon?
  8. I have a high difficulty in interpreting your highly incoherent rant. But I can infer that you are agreeing with my assumption that being a SL escort does not pay really well. After paying for so many schoolgirl outfits and X-rated piercings, that there is no money left to spend the 1 dollar(250 lindens per your rant) for a linden home or elsewhere. Therefore, you would rightly feel entitled to just stand out in the open on linden land, or even other peoples property(without permission of course), and change buck naked continuously throughout the day/night/week/months. I don't know why you would think that the company is a bunch of losers for offering such a cheap home, when they already offer it for free for folks like yourself. However, I can see your argument. But, after seeing a half naked BDSM guy standing along the railroad tracks in an empty parcel several sims away, why would you suggest that *I* buy and build him a parcel to hang out at for free? When has that been a valid business model? Why aren't you suggesting that he, or all of the others do it for me? Why aren't you doing it? Because it goes against your subsidized freebie mindset. I have been an avid defender, and minority, of the mainland for many years. But if the rest of it turns as empty as large swaths like Corsica, there won't be anywhere for you to squat. PS. Ever hear of Zindra? That's where you're supposed to do that stuff. After buying the parcels like the rest of us anyway. I don't know why I'm supposed to fill out a ticket to buy vacant land when no one else is. Maybe that's why land is clearing out the way it is.
  9. I noticed my error long after I posted, but your post is a good explanation. However, page one seems even more littered than it previously did. I don't come to various forums as much as I should since SL is good enough for me in itself, though I do like seeing what's new out there, but I wonder if it's partly due to the spam.
  10. [11:27] me: Are you some type of bot? [11:47] Daily squatting loser: Huh?!? [11:54] me: are you some type of bot?!? [12:12] Squatter: WTF idiot question is that? I don't even understand what you're asking. I mean, "Sure, a bot is going to answer question, so of course I'm bot!" Duh. and it ended. Don't look like bots. They're always so friendly too, of course they want to argue with me that I never had the sim restarted, and it's none of my business. Just like how I'm supposed to turn around at the naked folks. Got my answer. Loser #2 hasn't answered at the time of posting. BTW: The squatter, like all the others in the last 2 years, refuses to leave me alone now. She says shes' allowed to live on abandoned land. Again, the Lindens really need to capitalize on this.
  11. there is a host of people who aren't around to rez things, just change into various sex outfits, or just to hang around and hobo it. A term I'd hate to use because of the legit hobo group. I guess I should clarify. If I want to take a decent trip on the SLRR, with lots of possiblities, when I rez my train I can only go in one direction for all of the branch lines to get lost on. If I go towards the former WARR, it's like pre-switch and expansion days. There's not much to "do". The WARR filled that gap. it would be nice for some such possibility down that way. I think the traffic on the SLRR may be down a bit, although the traffic counts seem ok. once in a while I ride with someone who picks up a few people. But it's always been tons better than the highways. Though i can't speak for all of the mainland highways and byways.
  12. Feel like doing a final update unless something new and bold happens. Traffic Counts: SLRR for a Saturday: 74 Route 1 for a Saturday: 5 my town: 294 Governor Linden Abandoned Land: 868 Lindens need to tap into this. Isn't the cost of premium membership about a buck a month if you pay yearly after stipend? I mean, like, really?
  13. I'm not sure if it's because I've been here for so long (I started out one sim away renting in a rental community, I never though to just idle in a random spot for months), or if it's because the japanese blogs still call it that. The Atoll. I think it has a good ring to it.(no pun intended).
  14. Maybe maybe maybe. No. I don't think Linden Labs told them all they can live on abandoned property. I don't think Linden Labs told them to use the highway and Railroad rez zones and stations as such. All of my neighbors hasn't given permission and they hate them too. They've even banned a good chunk of them for running around naked for weeks on end. "If I was running a town on mainland I would be encouraging people to come and enjoy it like it was their home." Then they'd have to spend money right? That would defeat all of these private sim towns that are beautiful, but empty! ------ To the person who talks of teh amusment park. I think I know which one you mean, it's been there forever, and I'm happy and impressed they update it. HOWEVER: If you spend 4 minutes at that amusement park, you will notice a rez zone just outside of it. There is someone, or a bot that will TP in and our for one second at a time, in a few minute increments. Constantly. That's not including any other of linden labs residents(maybe they have permission?). As for private sims and mainland depression. It's off topic, but there are some really nice estates to drive through. But I can't stand the ones that don't have rez zones, and then, what stops them from closing too. Two of my pet peeves, other than Linden and the rest of us getting taken advantage of. Maybe I'll ask the one of 50 squatters I've seen in my region whose on right now if they have permission. Not like I didn't own that chunk of land before, and the subsequent bona fide purchaser didn't have a ban line on it either. I know neither of us did. The more green dots I see, the emptier real sims like Lionheart seem to get.
  15. This thread needs a lot of clarification. The WARR was one of the most sophisticated lines ever on SL. It was realistic, with even working signals that functioned in actual blocks. I've used it, but not enough. I've seen others use it as well, although they didn't understand the signals apparently. RE: Railroads don't get people The WARR was much better than Jers railroad. I wouldn't compare it to any of the others. RE: Lots of land being abandoned along the SLRR. And RE: nostaligia doesn't put money into the lindens pockets. Lands abandoned because, why pay for land when you can just squat and live on an empty parcel? Why do I bother to pay tier when I got 50 folks living by me that don't pay a dime? And why when I can combine that with the annoying of having that giant shyster hearts image I see on the original image of this thread? That section of the Atoll is severly lacking in railroads, but with how things are going, I'm not sure why to bother.
  16. I have owned a rather large city in the Atoll for five years. We are now in our fifth anniversary. I'm on there practically daily working on it, checking up on things, or just staring at the wall. I've noticed a drastic change in the mainland in this amount of time. For the first three years, I've seen lots of explorers. They came by balloons, they bought and rode trains. They walked. They'd stop and explore, and would talk to you and take a tour of town. Most of these people were content creators, or bloggers, or the like. In the last two years these types don't exist anymore. In the last few months to a year, I don't see many people on even the freebie hobotrains. What do I see? Perverts and squatters. I've had close to a dozen people set their home points to a neighbors land, so that they may teleport in a few dozen times per hour per night to change their various outfits and erotic percings for their escort sex sim. Some become beligerate at passerby's as though they own the land they are squatting on. I've talked to a friend in another sim far away, she sees the same issue. Ridiing a train on the SLRR on one afternoon, I see naked people in the depots changing. I pass another station where a couple is having sex, who asks me where they can do it. I tell them to buy or rent land like the rest of us. This grows every 6 months. Now they are using abandoned land on the other side of town, and the rez area. Last weekend it grew to a DOZEN avatars. Lots of these folks I see log into the same spot everyday. Some on just the weekends of course. For the first time in 5 years I've had to request a restart since the sim is so bogged down now. Will this be my new normal, having to chat with support weekly? All of these people are several years old, usually they seem to be 6-8. I've seen a guy hop from abandoned parcel to abanoneded parcel. He was eight. He was clicking around trying to find a place to rez and settle down. I live near several clubs and stores. They've averaged 0-40 traffic in the last 5 years. The SLRR and Highways with rez zones get about 40 traffic. Abanonded land traffic: 346 in some, 140 in others. In contrast, one owned parcel had one person idle for 3 days to get the traffic up to 500. This is how many squatters there are. I've suggested to linden labs to start charging people who live on Linden Lands instead of having land owners subsidize old perverts, with various ways to do so. But quite honestly, after five years, If this doubles once again, and then I have to contend with the hideous shyster hearts rentals in the future, I may as well give my land away to them as well. Of course, that will increase my monthly tier since the mainland is supposed to be cheaper, so who is the one who gets punished in the end?
  17. There is a large estate called Lionheart which appeared to be based on bay city, probably due to an old beta where they were going to link the city with bay city, but this had never happened. I don't know of the project was abanonded. An issue is that the estate used to be much bigger, but keeps shrinking with lowered demand for land in real cities. I'd like to see the place enlarged again. However, it is not a mainland sim, it's a "private" estate owner. Otherwise the model is very similar.
  18. Land tiers are high to subsidize all of the people who use the Linden Lands (Rez area's, abandoned lands) as their homes. With one land owner for every 15 squatters, my tier needs to be that high for their sake.
  19. I logged in here to make a post. All I see is "post moved" some are made by the same person. This looks like a spam forum. So the thread was moved, I can still see the advertisement and click on it. All it does is highlight the spam. I'm not going to make my post in here, it's just going to get lost in seconds. Therefore, yes is my answer.
  20. I used to run along the WARR all the time. The line was brilliant. The level of detail was terrific. This includes, the tracks, catenary wires, stations, and signage was top notch. The entire line had a working multi-sim signaling system. The blocks actually worked. You knew when someone else or the automatic tram entered by the block as your signal at the station went red, and you could wait until the opposing train passed to get the green. The automated tram even followed the signals, waiting for you at a station for however long. This worked great with the wonderful sidings at the station. Of course, most users on the rails drive too fast or are afk while running anyway to bother to follow the signals. I wonder why they didn't save the WARR the way they have the GSLR or others. Since the WARR ceased, I don't really ride the rails much anymore. It's just not as fun to run passenger trains on other lines, since the WARR was built for passengers. Plus, with the mainland issue of all of pervy squatters using the mainland as their "homes" and changing into sleazy outfits by the dozens(or hundreds?) and having sex on the platforms, it's not really fun anymore. It would be nice for a new line on the other side of the atoll for a change, but it won't be the same. Just another general line for the legions of freebie hobo trains.
  21. Filed a JIRA about the last LeTigre update, a ban list deleted and prims moved in Lapara. This server update has shifted a lot of prims down, sideways, and up at my station (238,8,100), and now I see a truck floating 2 feet off of the ground as well (109,51,90). Possible glitch or very werid side effects of the restart.
  22. Never thought of it as a sandbox as much as a trash heap when I was first born. But I am now finding out there's a spammy shyster landbarron all over the mainland that seems to put all of their "estates" in the sky now too, make the land look abandoned, and I guess get a massive profit margin out of the deal. I'll never look at hearts as a symbol of love again. I wish there was a way for an unofficial clearing for air traffic, at x feet that most people would follow. however it's impossible to get the word out, and too many people act like noobs when it comes to land settings.
  23. The problem isn't as much with the heart people themselves, I refuse to bother to look up or use their spamming name for more spam, but that there's people who enable this spam by renting from them. Is there such a sudden shortage of mainland land that folks have to pay a surcharge and build under such an object? With shadows enabled, all of these sky advertisements cast shadows over multiple sims blotting out the sun which is no good in any life.
  24. Some of these replies make no sense. If you're going to put a new product up, at least give a valid link to see it. Who is purchasing an item site unseen? Especially big ticket items. Secondly, what's the deal with classified ads, for products. You can go through 10, and 10 will not work. These are paid for, and in the users profiles, and are invalid. How about updating those? If you have a large product that has an invalid link, your profile has an invalid link, and so on, I'm not going to do all the work for you and then pay you for the product. That's a lot of work if it's not free, there's others out there. Then of course, when you do find one, it's a massive store...like massive, and the item is on the other side of the sim. Landing points I understand, but it's still almost bait and switch.
  25. There's CHUI conversations somewhere? I can't find them, besides the debate is over, it stinks. CHUI got me to go to a TPV for the first time since I've been rezzed, and I'm happy for it. Leave IRC to mIRC or ICQ, it's a virtual world. I do bet it has to do with CHUI, and a unicode situation.
