  1. Database Engineer - though the daily work grind is getting old and thus I'm really considering retiring soon and finding a hobby to occupy some of my time.
  2. I just grabbed the first thing that came up in google and that particular article is a bit old. The other countries are still around.
  3. A quick google shows that a lot of those "over 7 billion people outside of America" apparently celebrate Halloween in one form or another: Though most articles do attribute the extreme commercialization of it (along with almost all other holidays) to American capitalism - always out to make a buck, however and wherever.
  4. Actually, in that chart, the third column is the total of the first two. So it is saying that Portland is getting 142 days that contain some sun - total sun or partly sun. Which leaves 223 without sun. Despite the amount of sun we get here, when I retire then I'll move somewhere where the climate is a bit more temperate. I'm really tired of cold. Even with our current daytime highs in the 60s and 70s, it is still only 30-35 when I go to work in the morning. And it won't be long before we don't go higher than 30s and 40s.
  5. Looks like someone's odd version of PacMan
  6. It depends on how busy they are. They do not have a 24-hour support staff. At the time you submitted the ticket, nobody was working - off hours for LL. They are likely just now getting going for the day, or at most have been working an hour or two.
  7. Sat, Oct 27th, noon-midnight SLT. GoSpeed will be DJing part of it --- 5-7, I think.
  8. Despite the snow and cold in the winter in Colorado, the reason so many people tolerate it is the amount of sunny days that we get. At this altitude with very little humidity, seeing and feeling the sun can make a lot of difference during the winter months. Though I'm still moving when I hit retirement age. Oregon: Colorado
  9. Yuck - Colder and wetter than here in Colorado and way too close to my brother.
  10. Tis what hate about Colorado and loved about growing up in the midwest. In Colorado folks go to the mountains to Oooh and Ahhh over the aspens turning gold. The only orange and red leaves around here are the few houses that have planted some maples. I'm totally not impressed with the gold leaves of the aspen trees.
  11. Just because some of us have a different viewpoint on exploring places does not mean that we think we are entitled.
  12. Were you using a browser that auto-translates or did you tell it to translate? My Chrome popped up a box right away asking it if I wanted it to translate.
  13. Returning to the Disneyland analogy: Yes, I need the Experience in order to properly do/experience something like the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. However, I don't need the Experience to just wander around the park enjoying the wonderful builds. Someone might want to give me a tour (experience), but it isn't really NEEDED just to see and love the park itself - thus taking the tour should be optional. Yes, there are things in SL that are like the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, but there are far more things that are simply like the Disney park.
  14. Yes, true. If it had shredded all the way, IMO, it would have resulted in something totally useless and I would not have continued with the purchase. Likely the same with the actual purchaser.
  15. You seem to have missed the part where I said that "I actually almost never do 'tours' ". Key word being 'almost'. Just like SL experiences, there are places where they are useful, but that does not mean that they are always useful - IMO. In RL, I might miss some things because I refuse to do the "tour". Ditto for SL and since I make that choice, I can live with that. I'm simply stating my view and creators might want to at least CONSIDER that viewpoint. If an 'Experience' is not really needed for anything other than to massage your ego of your creation, then you might want to consider not forcing it upon the visitor. There are some creations that actually NEED to be experienced a certain way in order for them to work -- some of the Twisted Hunt and Halloween things most definitely fit this category, as do many/most games. RP is also something that could really make some interesting uses of Experiences. But to just see a random sim and wander about enjoying the creativity and being amazed at some of the work, does not NEED an Experience - IMO. Do you really need to explain everything about your creation rather than let others interpret it on their own - much like someone might interpret art without having the artist there to explain it all?
  16. I used to always tell my children that "fair" is not the same as "equal", though way too many people just don't seem to understand that.
  17. I think the shredding was genius. I definitely would have continued with the purchase. However, in SL, I don't necessarily want someone else's Experience forced on me. They do have their uses - I love them for some of the Halloween themed things going on. But do I really need an Experience forced on me just to wander and admire a beautifully created location? How many people might just decide to skip said location because of that?
  18. This reminds me of all the permissions that phone apps ask for, the vast majority making no sense at all as to why they are needed. If you want to deny the permissions that the app really shouldn't need anyway, then you can't use the app. Experiences really should be able to only request the permissions that it truly needs and then actually only request the things that it really needs. This ^^ When I go to an art gallery, I might not peel things out the frame, but I choose which things I want to take time to ponder, which ones I totally walk by ignoring, and what order I want to see things in. I never ever do tours in museums or art galleries - I actually almost never do 'tours' anyway, since it dictates how I will experience something.
  19. I'd really like to just stay in the middle area - anywhere from 60 - 80 is good for me. I can even handle short periods of temps a little bit on either side of my preference. The older I get, the less I tolerate really cold or really hot.
  20. @Scylla Rhiadra - An example of how this wacky stuff works: You now show as winning the 12th, 13th, 15th, and 16th - but Maddy managed to jump in sometime yesterday and take the 14th away from you. If we went back and liked a bunch more of your posts from the 14th, you'd then steal the day back from Maddy. Tis why the folks that try to Win the Day, and think they did so, usually never really know if they kept the win, and thus why it is even more meaningless that we all originally thought.
  21. Click Help / About in your viewer. Copy everything and paste it here. Try rebooting your modem and router. Disconnects are almost always an issue with your internet in some way. Go to this blog post and start working your way through it: blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/ One other thing - is this only happen at one location or multiple locations? If only one location, try logging in to a different location to see if it is different.
  22. I recommend that you post this in the Wanted section: https://community.secondlife.com/forums/forum/313-wanted/
