Breach of privacy is a legal issue. I'm fed up with SL and their breaching of my privacy. Mark my words...someone out there will be suing them. It's just a matter of time. At the rate they are going, there wont' be anything left to sue! SL is the Titanic being driven by Stevie Wonder and Hellen Keller is navigating. The crew is just a bunch of oompa loompas setting up useless groups and dislocating their arms patting themselves on the back. We're just the poor saps in steerage watching the iceberg get closer and closer. Their total lack of response to the issues raised here on the communication blog show they just don't care. They only want shiny new customers. They hide the fact that 1000's haven't logged in for months or years and just say "look! 1000 new people today". And THAT is why I am so freakin' angry. SL has some of the most talented people in the freakin' world - artists, builders, tecchy people - and instead of saying "can you help?" they say "screw you!" and watch them leave. I have seen some of the most incredible things done in SL and now more and more of it is being lost. Well, when someone does sue, it will soon be a class action involving 1000's of pissed off/fed up people because we outnumber all the fanboys/girls and all the linden alts. LL should realize ...we wouldn't be so freakin' angry if we DID NOT CARE!

There are many ways for dataminers to add 2+2 and figure out what you are doing on your free time. And HR departments are routinely looking at websites like Facebook or hiring dataminers to go digging through people's activities, either for hiring or for firing information. Any teacher who is in SL and has picks for "Debbie's Bondage House" and "Lenny's whip and chain emporium" .... Well said, Shockwave and that is exact reason I will NOT join Facebook and will NOT associate SL and FB in any way, shape or form. I live in a small city, in a career field in which everyone litteraly know everyone else (court/legal). I have RL friends in SL. We know all about each but that was shared BY CHOICE not forced on us by FB and SL. People that think this can't happen, google your SL name and then think "would I want my spouse/parent/employer/priest/co-workers seeing this?" How about "RL hubby, meet my SL hubby"? Once your inforation is out, you can't take it back! BTW Shockwave LOVE the name "Lenny's whip and chain emporium"! LOL Truly inpsired! Thanks for the laugh! I needed it!

My point is how bad search is. Also, there are a LOT of people not showing up in search even though they want to be. So irritating. Lulu, search has been borked for years. LL has done nothing to fix it or even acknowledge that we have a problem with SEARCH.

Face it, LL doesn't give a rat's ass if you like it or not and are in for a shock when people start sharing their dissatisfaction on Facebook where they insist this go! EA didn't listen to the subscribers of The Sims Online either...and look what happened! Blizzard listens to its customers. They also don't hire morons that use cheap corporate buzz words, they hire grown ups. Just my $0.02.

LL only gives lip service and uses crap like this to distract the sheeple from the fact they haven't done squat to fix the problems that we have been screaming about for years! They insist on shoving this crap viewer down our throats even though the vast majority don't like it, don't want it, don't use it. So the fanboys/girls will all cheer and kiss LL butt and will make it look like LL is doing a great job. But now they are pushing us to FB and they are going to be sorry when their mess goes public. Useless lip service from a dying company. LOL Nice way to end a blog on COMMUNICATION. Try looking it up in the dictionary. What LL does is lie not communicate. They need to hire grown ups that know how to run a real business.

Not a problem for me. Neither is privacy. I'm not hiding anything. It isn't going to bother me at all if full disclosure is required to use Second Life. I think it will improve the business climate and the neighborhood. Well, with all due respect, let me just say ...that's great for you! Share all your details with the world if that what blows your hair back. HOWEVER, and I know this may come as a shock to some ... My RL name is NOT Jason Sheffield, I am NOT a member of the gentry and OMG I can't fly! But the RL ME does live in a small city and has a career to protect. My field of work has a small number of people and literally ALL know each other. So there is NO WAY IN HELL I will EVER put SL on FaceBook. And as someone mentioned, they may want to re-think that brilliant idea. Right now our disgust with them is limited to a blog MAYBE 25% of paying customers know about. Put this mess on Facebook and their reputation will drop so fast their collective heads will spin. Amanda, do you really want to expose your lack of honesty, customer service and largely disgusted (but not every one) customer base to the world and play Nero as SL dies? Or do you want to fix the messes you've made, win back our trust, bring back customers that have left and THEN move to Facebook? THink about it! Who'll make a better fan? Some moronic fanboy/girl that just LOVES every thing you do or those of us you've screwed over and have managed to win back? My money goes on us oldbies that you've hosed more than once! But then again, I'm not working at LL where everything is rainbows and kittens and I ride to work on a freakin' unicorn!

What exactly is the point of web profiles? This is a serious question.. what's the point of it? Nobody that I know (besides the people I play Second Life with) give a crap about my character on Second Life. There is no need to ever search for anyone while you are outside the game. There is no way to customize your online profile in any way (colors, layout, etc.). if you read the blog on opening communication you'll see LL is pushing Facebook and Twitter now. Regardless of the fact we can't sign up to FB with the av's name and you can't use your real name in SL or maybe you dont' want to. But that doesn't matter to LL. The consensus is they are going after FB ad money or will be trying to make SL into and FB add on. Either way this new viewer is just their attempt to distract people from the fact they aren't fixing anything of importance. You can spray Polo on crap but it's still crap. LL doesn't care what WE think and if they force us to use this crap viewer to log in, they're going to lose even more people and more money. Enjoy it while you can, SL's day are numbered unless they start fixing the messes they've created and stop lying to its PAYING CUSTOMERS.

I can haz web-baseage for teh inventory also, plz? The current ASSet server has been crapping out for years and now you want a web-based system? If they ever try that we'll all be naked, bald and have 0 in our inventories. After 4 years in-world, I don't think I want to start looking like poor old Ruth again.

The point is, you can be searched on the web, not just inside SL. For networking, it's a huge plus. And you didn't know that has been available for quite some time already? Just google "sirjason sheffield" & second life and you'll see. So they dump yet another version of the crap viewer that 90% of customers don't use and ignore the rest of the problems. oh yeah...something new and shiny to cover the decaying and dying grid. Yeah, nice try.

You can pretend you don't understand the existence of zoning restrictions if you want to. That's immaterial. What matters in this context is how Linden Lab sees it. Do they think selling live webcam shows from their platform negatively impacts other potential business or not? What are their tradeoffs? We can only guess, and wait and see. And in any case, this is all off the topic of communications. We should probably drop it. So there are "potential businesses" that will come to SL IF they get rid of all the adult stuff? And what do you suggest we do in SL? Sit around the virtual convent discussing the last look in habits? I swear the more BS I read on this blog, the less I want to log in! LL has already lost my premium account fees and my $300/mo sim. Keep up the lies and they will lose the little I still spend in SL. Not to mention the friends that have already left (but apparently they don't matter) and the business I know have closed. I'm done now. Yuki Enoch and others have said it more succintly than I have. I will leave it to them - at least they are on the same planet as I am. Enjoy it while you can, kids. Unless LL fixes its mess, SL won't be arond much longer. again...JUST MY OPINION. The time and money you spend on entertainment is an expense, not an investment. Linden Lab is not a bank. You don't earn dividends or interest on the money you pay them for their services. I apologize if the wording "just shut up and go do it" is too strong for you or if you take it as some kind of attack directed at you personally. The statement is not directed against anyone in particular, and it is certainly not directed to you. And once again those of us that point out what LL is NOT doing are told that if we can't say something nice than go away! Tell me something good they have done in the past 2 years? V2 is an ungodly mess. Zindra was a fiasco. They screwed us over with Homesteads. They out and out lied about the merging of the Teen / Main grids! So I'll over here being negative until this BUSINESS is run by adults who knows what they are doing and how to provide the service they charge for. When LL stops with the User Groups, Facebook, Office Hour crap and FIXES things I will be right there saying "GREAT JOB!!" But until then, I have no faith in this company or anything its PAID EMPLOYEES say. And I have even less use for the Mary Poppins-type that sit here and go "Yay Amanda/Oz/WHATEVER! Great Job!" Sorry if I put out the mucked up mess they have been putting out in my RL job, I would have been fired a LONG time ago! So they better take their heads our of their behinds FAST! Because those us of fed us outnumber the cheerleaders. And FYI I speak ONLY FOR ME. I do not speak for anyone else.

Some of these people seem to think they are speaking for everyone using Second Life, but they are not. Nothing against Nany personally .... but I am SICK and TIRED of this kind of cheerleading. I PAY LL for a service! If your cable company doesn't provide the service you pay them do you say "well, they are trying! I love them!" No! You say "this is the problem, FIX IT!" Why should LL expect any different? They are a business. They are adults. They are NOT providing the level of service they say they are. Therefore they should expect NEGATIVE comments. it's called LIFE IN THE ADULT WORLD. And FYI - I speak only for me. A fed up, ex-paying customer who has been lied to LL, flamed by its cheerleaders and will give credit when it is due, just as I will criticize what is NOT been done.

SL is NOT full of kittens and rainbows. It's a mess and it's not getting any better. I'm sure this is all becuase you're starting to see a change in the corporate bottom line. A LOT of people have left SL and are NOT coming back. So stop the corporate lying, clean up the messes you've made or even more of us will just take our MONEY and spend it where we get a level of service we want to pay for. I downgraded to a free account a few years ago and see no reason to go back to premium because unless the outright lying stops and improvements are made, SL will simply go away. If you want to communicate then stop using groups that only 5% of people know about; office hours are a few 'special residents' to sit around saying how wonderful SL is. Twitter and Facebook? Hardly! If you truly wanted to communicate you would be looking for ways to reach more of your paying customers not just a few. So this is just another little song and dance from LL and its few special "pet residents". It's a shame that LL has had its head firmly wedged up its own behind because they had access to some of the more creative people on the planet and they let them all walk away! Brilliant decision making! And the idiot that said "V2 is great, they'll love it!" should be fired. After being in-world for 3.5 years, I wasn't able to use it at all! After 10 mins of hunting for the simplest things, I deleted it and will never install it again. So if/when it becomes standard, you will have lost yet another CUSTOMER. P.S. WE are not "residents" we are PAYING CUSTOMERS. Without us, LL is gone! Try to remember that.

I totally agree with Cherry. Although I am happy to read that LL is taking steps to FINALLY listen to what WE as "customers" want .. I won't believe it until I see it! Having been here since 2007 we have been told time after time you want to hear from us and we post 1000's of messages over the years and asked 100's of question 99.9% of which have been gone unanswered. I hate to say this but I think this may be your final kick at the can. Having recently returned to SL I have found most of the stores and clubs I used to frequent are gone. If you're serious about this PLEASE PLEASE follow through. Some of us are still a bit leary after the OS mess, the Adult Content death march and many MANY of the other things that LL has done. As I said, you may not get another chance if you screw us over agian. One final thing .. Not all of us use Twitter. And do I really want to link my barely used RL Facebook account to my SL id? HELL no! Those that know me in SL know about me in RL. But I CHOOSE who I tell. To put that much responsibilty on a site OTHER THAN YOUR OWN is stupid. So if someone go to the SL website, will you just say "find out more on Facebook"? Please re-think that whole bandwagon jumping idea! It will bring no good! I will now wait with finger crossed to see if SL can be brought back from the brink! I truly hope it can!

Well said Graphic. It IS their company and we do have the choice to leave. They have shown nothing but contempt and disdain towards us for the past 3 years. I've already given up the sim I owned, downgraded my account to basic. I only log in once in a while now to spend time wtih a friend I have known since I joined SL. I don't buy anything, I don't go anywhere but to the lot we share. I will spending my free time and money in Warcraft where at least they seem to give a rat's ass about keeping their paying customers. LL will be probably gone in a year - all I can say now is GOOD RIDDANCE to arrogant morons that ran something that had amazing potential into the ground. As for Phillip's legacy - it's garbage. They can have all the in-world meetings they want - let's face it, they are liars and couldn't manage a lemonade stand in a lemon grove next to a sugar plant in the middle of a lake. For those staying, I wish you the best and good luck with everything. Protect yourself - LL won't!

It is time for LL to grow some balls and face us! Both Teens and Adults and come up with a strategy to protect BOTH sides. All you need is one bible humper complainig that her little angel is being exposed to "homosexuals and other sexual deviants" and all hell breaks loose! This is what caused the forced march to Zindra. Some dumbass that was too stupid to just TP out when they landed at a place with adult content. So Phillip better grow a pair and FAST! Better yet, cancel this stupid move, dump all the morons that came up with this, hire staff that log in to SL and can FIX the problems and THEN maybe you'll have a customer base that trusts you again. LL is treating everyone (Adults and teens) with very little respect or courtesy. They have yet to respond to the many many many concerns expressed here and they seem to think teens are just mindless little children that will sit in their little houses and play with their Lego until they are all growed up and can finally do the 'adult stuff'. I think we deserve a reply from LL clearly spelling out once and for all what they are going to do to protect EVERYONE. As a gay male I have NO intention of putting myself at risk to having to fight extradition to some backward little state in the US because little Johnny saw "two faggots doing something against the laws of God". Trust me, I've heard that a few times in the 3-4 years I have been in SL. Now toss in little Johnny who thinks he may be gay and starts looking around when Mommy or Daddy walk in and see him watching 'perverts'. Do you really think LL is going to say "well, little johnny shouldn't have been doing that." No, they will most likely bend over and give all *MY* contact infomration to the FBI, suspend or delete my account and start patting themselves on the back saying "we done good". Meanwhile I will have the RCMP knocking on my door. And all because LL has its head up its arse and made yet another incredibly stupid decision! They may also see the few corps that do bother with SL leaving now before they get caught up in the mess that is about to hit. TERRANCE LINDEN started this and I have yet to find ONE REPLY from him or any other peon at LL. But that seems to be their MO - drop the last load of BS, open it up for comments, then make it look like they are listening to our concerns and then moving on. What angers people most is that Linden Lab is dishonest. A thousand times the company was asked if there were plans to merge the grids. A thousand times the company said 'No!" We have been betrayed so many times by LL, is it any wonder that people are fed up with this last betrayl? This is the company that betrayed us with the OS fiasco, the forced march to Zindra. They never reply to our concerns, they haven't done anything to make the grid more stable instead they have slowly been taking things away. We lost the freedom to be ADULTS and were forced into that laghole Zindra; instead of stability we get a new viewer that most of the people I know do not use. Personally I couldn't use it for more than 10 mins before I dumped it. They took away OnRez and XStreet and made Marketplace. Then there was this huge push to get us to have our RL companies join SL until people said "um...NO! Do your own damn marketing!" SL is not what it was even 3 years ago. Copybotting is rampant but nothing is done to stop it. I personally know 2 business that had everything copybotted. WIth one it took 3-4 DAYS before LL did anything about it. They call us "residents" but we are PAYING CUSTOMERS (or if you're like me, you dropped your premium to basic). We pay with every L$ we spend. But we are treated like morons. We are ignored; we are forced into whatever little plan they have this week. This combination of the 2 grids just shows once again that this company is completly mismanaged. They can't seem to get together and make a durable plan what WORKS for the entire company. Instead one moron sees something shiny and then the entire ship is steered in that direction. Then they find out it was a bad idea so another moron takes over. LL it is time for you to stand up and be counted. Tell us ONCE AND FOR ALL what is your plan? So we can say "okay then, I'm deleting my account, good luck." I think the number of people that have posted to this blog clear shows how fed up we all are about your BS! You own the game but we can take our ball and go home. Without us, you're just a big empty grid. It is time for us to put an end to the BS spouting dictatorship! Maybe its time we protest with our wallets. Set one day where we do not spend/buy/trade any L$. It will hurt them in their wallets and show them we are done with this BS and we have the power to walk away with our wallets unless they start to pay attention!

This is a terrible decision for both sides. First the teens are being forcibly moved (like the Zindra fiasco) from a grid where they have a level playing field to a grid where they are 2nd class citizens and are going to be ignored by most of the adults and not allowed or welcome in most place, just in case. Second the adults are being exposed to potential lawsuits, or worse, criminal proceedings. It seems for our own safety, we adults are going to have to avoid the teens like the plague. It's not unheard for people to lie. And long before you're name is cleared and the 'victim' admits to lying, your reputation will be gone, your career may be effected. For what? A few $$ in LL's pocket? It's also not fair to treat the teens like this. They contribute the same was we do but they are being forced to move to a grid where they are not wanted. How do they expect the teen creators to compete with the adult creators? What about the teen that wants to open a club just for teens? Too bad, so sad. Come back when you're all growed up? This is a lose/lose situation. Since joining SL in 2006, it has been the last 2 years that have really shown that LL has no sense of planning ahead. They make stupid decisions, force them on everyone and when it flops, they make another stupid decision. This was done with the OS fiaso and Zindra just to name 2. Instead of fixing things, they make a new viewer. Instead of dealing with the loss of paying accounts, they buyout XStreet run into into the ground and make Marketplace. It is time for LL to take its head out of its collective arse. This latest in a series of stupid decisions is driving away the teens 13-15 (do they think they will come back after this?), forcing the 16/17 year olds onto the AG where they are wanted and exposing the entire AG to potential risk. Sadly, this may be The Decision that finally shuts down SL. All you need are the fools at Fox News to hear about it. Fellow SLers (teen and Adult) - look out for yourself (log chat/IMs to start) - LL will toss you under the bus to save their own ass.
