  1. Last time we did Beachbonanza it was summer in America, and it seemed appropriate at the time. I'm in Australia and I remember it was cold when setting up summer/beach themes in some of my listings, but now I'm sweating through a very hot summer.

Was it last year? It seems like such a long time ago. I'm thinking it might have been the year before because last summer the new market opened.

They have to make the distinction between moderate and adult clearer or else almost everything that should be in adult will be put into moderate

Moderate Content Is Only For 18+ Year-Old Residents.

    • Mildly sexual content, including:
      • References to sex, as long as they are not explicit or frequent.
      • Intimate avatar animations, as long as they do not depict sexual activity that is explicit or highly realistic.

Adult Content Is Only For 18+ Year-Old Residents.

    • Strong sexual content, including:
      • Depictions of anatomical nudity, including exposed genitals and/or female nipples.
      • Sexual avatar animations, including ones depicting explicit or highly-realistic sexual intercourse or oral sex.
      • Content or items intended for use in, or primarily associated with, erotic or sexual roleplay.
      • Explicit or frequent references to sex or sexual activity.

These definitions lead people to believe that if they tame down images, i.e. block out the naughty bits or show clothed people having sex, then they can classify the sex animations as moderate. Anyone can look at anything and say 'Well, in my opinion it is moderate'.

'Intimate avatar animations, as long as they do not depict sexual activity that is explicit or highly realistic.' What does this mean? We are using avatars so in my opinion nothing is highly realistic.

  3. What annoys me most is that the merchants who own these items most likely put them in the right category - Mature. And then LL came along and waved their stupid magic filter wand over everything thus exposing pornography to people who do not want to see it. I don't want to see it. There would be many prudish people who don't and might even be shocked. You know, just because you are over 18 doesn't mean you won't be offended by female private parts being shoved into your face.

    How rude

What I don't understand is why they downgraded items from mature to general. The filter should only have been used to upgrade from general to moderate or adult. Why would you downgrade a rating that a merchant decided to place on an item? Just stupid.

  4. You know, it's not only about teens, it's wrong to expose anyone to pornographic images under the heading General. This should be placed as a priority to get this sorted because if LL are worried about being sued then the market should be shut down until this is fixed. You can't classify porno as general while working on your fix.

Exactly my point Rachel regarding the Clutter Tax.  You were very much for it - I was very much against it.  So using the example I posted, you are in Focus Group #1 and when asked by LL you promote it, I get invited to Focus Group #2 and I express to LL how stupid an idea it was.  LL has 2 Merchant Focus Groups, two opposite messages.  So... how much guidance do they get from these two groups?  Reaction - "Merchants are not commited to either dirction so we will make up out own minds.

Agreed, this is my fear, I am compltely opposed to PIOF for sales because of how SL works, I refuse to put PIOF on all of my accounts, that's five points of failure but if these closed user groups find favour with that with no open platform, where is the chance of the opposing view?

If I wasn't involved in a Focus Group on ratings/reviews, and it was decided to revert back to the way it was in Xstreet, I would be p*ssed off. I don't want a system where anyone can anonymously dump a 1 star rating on your item with no reason given. Merchants have gained some protection against this, and they should always have some protection.

She's making an effort.  But if she is restricted to 9-5 on weekdays, there will ALWAYS be some poor office guy in PST who will never be able to attend.  Just as there will always be some poor european merchant who can't ever make it.  It's just the nature of the game.  Can't please everyone always.

I'm not saying it can't happen.  I'm just saying I don't think it's likely that her office hours are EVER going to extend to the point they're accessible to everyone.

My partner and I live in Australia. We have attended every single office hour right from the very first one. Pink did hold them outside normal office hours to accommodate for international merchants. So making long speeches about why it can't be done is invalid. It was done before and it can be done again.

Plus, let's keep in mind, LL is an AMERICAN business.  Brooke is probably required (just guessing) to hold her OH on the clock which would most likely be during business hours in PST.  So it would have to be sometime between 9am and 4pm SLT.  So regardless of what time best suits Brooke, she might never be able to hold them past a certain time even if that's best for accomodating more users.

Pink regularly held 3 sessions over one day. But yes, she did at least one from home. I remember her saying it was her bed time. So it isn't a requirement to have them in normal working hours - probably more a choice.

On the email issue: if you asked Marketing to remove you from their lists, you will not get the email that was sent. That is the means I currently have available for sending out mass emails, so opting in will make sure you get these communications from Marketplace. Yes, there are other solutions we could put into place to send mass emails, but the same information will be posted in this forum and tweeted. Since there are other options, I will prioritize this below software fixes for now.

    Brooke

    Brooke,

There is a problem with emails. When bulk emails are sent out not everyone gets it. And it isn't always the same people who miss out. Sometimes my partner gets an email and I don't, and then vice versa. This time I got the email on maturity and he didn't. Unless this is fixed don't rely on emails only to communicate important information. This problem has nothing to do with opting to be removed from a list. There is something broken when sending out mass emails, which has been broken for a long time, and it needs to be looked at and fixed.

or Twitter, a very small number of merchants use that.

I would have disagreed - strongly.

If those teens we are referring to were under 16 I would certainly agree,  however these changes  are being foisted upon us supposedly to protect the innocence of a small motely bunch of 16 and 17 year olds who frankly, are much more street wise and savvy about sex & violence drugs and alchohol etc than  many of us matures.

One could make a strong case that it is indeed us who should be protected from them :-)

    ^L^

Well, maybe not protecting teens, but protecting SL from any bad publicity involving 'children' that could have a huge impact on its success -  and so it is protecting all us merchants.

    Brooke,

What I am missing in this process of implementing this new change that effects so many merchants, is the communication with us about it, before the plan is rolled out. You have announced it in the office hours, but there was not much room to stand still at the subject or have a discussion about it. Not that it would have made much difference, because after all your plans were there already the only thing that was left for you to do was force them on us. And that happened two days later.

This is true, but even if Brooke had given us time to discuss the plans beforehand we would all have agreed that something needs to be done to protect teens. We probably would have accepted her plan. Nobody, including Brooke, would have foreseen that the plan was not going to work. It is only in retrospect that we see it.

It seems the main problem is being caused by a bug, and nobody can foresee bugs.

Damn it! If you had just announced the change and left it to us to take care of changing the rating of those items that might need an up-rating. We would have done so!!!

They probably did consider this but didn't believe the 'we would have done so' part.... and when you say we, perhaps you mean you.

ROFLMAO!! Make up your mind Mickey .. which am I? Someone that speaks for others and doesn't have a voice because I never talk about how it affects me ... or someone that is solely focused on my own needs and world and couldn't give a damn about others?

    Someone who likes talking.

It would be a great help when you could publish the list of keywords that make an item 'adult', and the keywords that make an item 'moderate'.

That would be an interesting list of words . I picture Brooke straining her mind and typing out all the naughty words she can think of, or maybe she will do it in voice at the next meeting
