  1. From what I have seen, animals can lag a sim due to their script usage, so I can see why LL would say no to something like that. And if I remember correctly, temp rezzing takes a huge amount of resources from the server, and may affect prim count as well. To me, SLB is more of an appreciation for what goes on around the grid, not another way to make money, at least not directly. I don't think SLB should be another fair or expo where they have things for sale. If LL were to turn the SLB celebrations into a for-profit based vehicle, who would get to be the lucky merchants that are selected to sell things? There still would be a lot of discrimination, and a lot of people will wonder why they were not selected. Then when people go to buy said items, if the sim is lagged they may not get their product, which then brings a lot of headache to what is supposed to be a fun event. Or, they may not be able to get into the sim at all because a big name is selling exclusive products, which mean the other exhibitors lose out because people who came to see their builds cannot get in. Think about it this way - if you were to go to a birthday party, would you be surprised if 1/3 of the venue had booths filled with items for sale? Not that much of a celebration, right? And you even said yourself you considered the event a success because you were able to reach a good amount of people. Even though I know people love their freebies a bit too much at times, it is still supposed to be a representation of the product of the merchant - advertisement. I thought the backbone of SL is the ability to create, period. Making a profit from what you make is just the icing on top.
  2. Great post, but just to make a note that a lot of people don't like IMs that start off with "Hi". I think because too many times people just say hi and then that is all that they say. My approach is to talk about somethng they mentioned in their profile. That shows that you took an interest in learning about them (at least what they chose to share with you) before talking to them.
  3. I was a greeter at SL8B this year, and it was my 2nd year at the festivities. What I like about the event is that I get to see a different side of SL than what I am used to seeing, My favorite displays were the interactive art and structures that sort of reminded me of going to a science museum. I feel merchants have a strong representation in SL as it is. Merchants have SLM, they get blogged on websites, they have magazines (which are in the feeds), they have inworld groups for both their stores and special sales, and they make their own events for charity. So I don't really see the need for them to be at the SLB celebrations, unless they think outside of the box like you did and make something fun and interactive that fits the theme. That would be interesting if LL did something adult - themed, although I would think they would just let the Zindra Alliance handle that, which does not represent everything that is adult; just the oldest group. Combat would be interesting as well, because unfortunately when I think of combat I think of griefers (most likely because when I was new to SL someone set up a DCS combat system right under my apartment and my whole floor was lit up. *shudders* Like Qwalyphi said, there were parcels that had audio. I think it depended on the sim. The no scripts restriction was odd, because they had pods that gave you a tour of the event had a meter to show how fast you were traveling, and the only time it seemed to work was when I went to Bear Island or if I was on someone's parcel. Speaking of the pods, had it not been for them I would not had been able to know where to go. They should have several directories within a sim to tell you what is where, much like a SL shopping center where you can TP to a certain store. I believe at the Welcome Center they had a schedule about events happening at the Mainstage. And in the main group people posted events occurring as they took place. It would be nice if every day someone sent a notecard with all the events that was taking place for that particular day, however. Also, there were a number of people who blogged about the events that were taking place. It would had been a good idea if LL consolidated all of them into one feed and let people look at what is going on. What restrictions would you want to see lifted? I looked up the rules for the builders/exhibitors, etc, but it seemed general to me.
  4. I suggested paint or photoshop and she said movie images aren't the same as pictures. I think maybe it's that you can capture a certain area of the screen to film rather than doing a full screen.
  5. Hello! I am hoping you guys will be able to help me. I have a friend who is used to making movies with a Mac computer, using Capture Me. She is currently using a PC and would like to know are there any similar programs that would do the job like the program she is used to using, like cropping still images.
  6. Does anyone know of any reputable real estate agencies that has commercial beachfront property? I am looking for answers from the renter's point of view, and not so much of the real estate agency. I feel that anyone from an agency will say theirs are the best, but the renters may say otherwise.
  7. Where is the griefing taking place? Mainland? Private estates? I had a grief attack several weeks ago at work and my boss notfied the sim owner, which in turn notified LL. A Linden wa son the scene investigating the matter within 10 minutes. When one of the SL restarts merged my kitchen table with my kitchen counter, leaving a huge phantom prim, I contacted the real estate agency, which in turn contacted LL. My friend said a Linden was on the scene several hours later. It just seems weird there is that much griefing. Maybe people on that sim are doing things to cause griefers to attack (like they made the wrong person angry)?
  8. If you really want to know who isleaking, get another (small) location and tell one by one your friends who you usaully tell where your "new" location is. Maybe a friend owns a club or land and you get a skybox above them. Then when the alt comes, you know who it was and can mute them as well.
  9. Do you have a negative Linden balance? If not, empty your cart and try to buy the items one at a time to see if that works.
  10. When I used to get a lot of freebies from the marketplace, I noticed if I received more than 8 at a time, I would only get the first 8; the rest wouldn't get delievered. How did you win the freebies? Like from a midnight mania board? But yeah, if you are getting your items capped, that would be the reason. If you allow your messages to be sent to email, you can see what is being sent to you.
  11. Hmm...if everyone can access adult sims now..hold on to your seats ladies and gentlemen, because we're in for a ride.
  12. Try clearing your cache, log out, and when you log back in set your destination to "Aqua". Let your inventory load up there, and then when it's done try wearing your tattoo. The "mummy" you see is an example of getting "ruthed". It happens to everyone from time to time.
  13. Ah...a lover ^^ First of all, pick a venue that isn't too laggy or empty (although dancing together when no one else is around can be romantic too). You can go to clubs where you can wear casual clothing, or take her out to a place where she (and you too!) needs to dress up for. Always compliment her on what she is wearing. It takes effort to look nice, and she will appreciate it. Make sure you look nice as well, of course. What to talk about...I think the approach varies based on how the relationship started. I find that relationships that started from more...sensual means tend to have sexually charged conversations, but you really don't know the person that well. So you would want to take the time to get to know your lover a bit better. Like a lot of people have said already, find out what she likes to do in SL, and what does she want to do ideally. If you started off in a more conversational manner, then for the most part, you can pretty much continue where you left off the last time you spoke and again, ask questions that will allow you to get to know her better. And remember what she talks about. If you have to write things down, then you aren't doing a good job listening. If she talks about 5 things and you ask her about 3 of them the next time you meet, then it comes from the heart, and not some fake script or false interest. Personally I like it when the guy talks about himself and what he likes to do while on SL as well. Ambition is attractive Just make sure it doesn't get too one-sided. As for the actual dancing part...I think that even though you don't have to emote the entire dance sequence, it's a good idea to pay attention TO the type of dance that is happening. If part of the sequence shows you puling your dance partner close to you, writing, "/me pulls you closer to him" would be great, because the intimate action is getting reinforced - in text and in action. Any sensual touching that you want reinforced to make her feel good is good to emote. And talk between emotes If you don't have a place of your own, find a nice romantic place to take your lover for the more...intimate moments. But before you take her, make sure you are familiar with the poses and whether the poses synch with each other. Nothing kills the mood faster if the poses are no good. Or...if you constantly change poses because you can't find the one that you want
  14. When I first started SL, I would remove people that I had not heard from in a while, because I thought that was the thing to do. I had already experienced people deleting me "just cause" and not to get "butthurt" over it. But I really didn't feel good about that, cause I would had hated for people to do that to me. Sure enough, when my HD crashed and I was away from SL for over a month, people had deleted me without even asking me why I was gone. Like Randall said, I hesistate nowadays to add newbies to my friends list because most don't stay for long. And then I'm left wondering what happened to them. I don't need to collect friends, so once I add someone I do take it a bit personal if I get deleted (or even worse when they hide their online status from me) Calling cards? Yes I keep them - it's fun to see how long have you known someone.
  15. I went to the clubs to meet people. Don't be afraid to join in on the local chat conversationns (that is when they aren't gesturing like crazy), and even send a friendly IM every so often.
  16. Wow Ishtara - didn't really notice the caps until you pointed it out lol We were all new once. I think the next step for you is to see if you can join in on conversations. Not sure about group chat, but like go someplace inworld and make it your goal to say at least one thing at each outing. Sometimes people will talk to you if they see you are a regualr at a certain place (e.g. club).
  17. Maybe put the new items in the magic box, but rename them slightly. Then when you synch with your marketplace inventory, see do you still see 2 sets of boxes, or just your renamed ones.
  18. Yeah no unable to send chat to group errors ^^
  19. I have seen teens in mature regions...am not sure if they migrated over or lied about their age, though.
  20. I bought it - that dance is hot. The staff joined in on the fun too ^^
  21. I would try another viewer to see if it's you, or the V2 viewer you have. One of my friends had to stop usuing the V2 viewer because it wouldn't let her log in, but after trying a 3rd party viewer she was able to log in just fine. Maybe a file in the V2 viewer got messed up...would probably try a delete/clean install if you really want to use that viewer.

  23. At the store I work at, most items are copy/mod, but the lingerie is transfer. A lot of guys like to but lingerie for their significant others, so that permission is a great convenience. In general, if clothing is not copy yet it has prims I would never buy it. If I can't mod the length of pants because I want to wear them with boots or with heels, I would hesitate to buy it.
