  1. Something we should consider? Yeah - what DID we do when we came to SL?

I didn't have any set goals because I wasn't sure what SL had to offer. But once I started seeing stuff comparable to real life like shopping, owning a residence, fashion, modeling, businesses, blogging,  etc., my goals changed to reflect that.

For me, working on some sort of goal helps make SL fun and gives me a sense of purpose. I guess because I can't just sit around twiddling my thumbs when so many people create and accomplish wonderful things that contribute to this world.

You guys are hilarious - jumping on the OP for every little thing from the title of his post to his choice of words. Perhaps he hasn't come back since no one else has answered what he had to say, but derailed it to a degree trying to analyze his motives. Some people simply don't have the patience or the time to agrue/debate with people who clearly are out for some excitment or drama.

  2. Good luck - I tried that with the last sm I was on that had 465 prims; asked to pay 1k  L evry other week for 50 prims and would have full use of the furnished parcel. People came, loved the place, and then mysteriously disappeared when it came time to put up the money.

  3. I have heard of overzealous club owners and staff - it's a shame, because it doesn't reflect well on their business.

Second, just because no one asked the OP about showing a pic about the dress, doesn't mean that people were not curious about the type of dress it was. I think it's natural to be curious and want some visuals as to what dress was so controversial that it got someone kicked out of a social place. Pictures are not a bad thing, people.

Third, I have noticed how some people are so jaded in these parts that they assume the worse and go to town on some people, making their post count increase in the process so they can get a title/badge for SL forums.

I don't think the OP was using the forums to advertise...not a lot of people come on the forums like that. It would be more effective to advertise in a group in world that caters to fashion advertisement, or post on Facebook. So her talking about something that happened to her = advertisement. Okay, sure.

And I think it takes a lot of restraint not to go off on someone in a forum when they are basically getting ganged up on...which is what this looks like on the outside looking in.

  4. I agree with Anetta. Usually when people start off with phrases like "expand  my portfolio", it's because they need practice and practicing the art trumps making money commerically. Once the portfolio is built up, people will be willing to pay once they see the range and quality of the work.

I don't think it's particulary cool to have people pay a mandantory fee for the OP considers to be practice work. Either make it free or advertise it as a special sale, and leave out the purpose of having discounted prices.

This is not advice - just me reading a thread on a forum and making a comment since I have participated in what the OP is doing with other photographers, and it was for free.

  5. I would like to know more about tumblr roleplay, too. Googling doesn't exactly help cause it's a huge amount of information. If the OP does indeed roleplay, I'm sure a couple of links can be provided to give everyone an idea of what it is.

As for Second Life being a game...some people considered SL a game just because it's entertainment online. Others do not consider it as such because in most games, there is not a platform for interaction to the degree SL has. Also, when people say it's a game, they in a way downplay all the things SL has. People have the ability to make money and cash out to RL, and use it as a means to support themselves there. That alone would make it more than any game.

Graphics - people are always looking for logo makers and the like. Or if you like taking pictures, there are those who look for photographers. I encourage you to take the first month or so just to get familar with SL, because it's hard to get jobs in SL when you don't even know how to manipulate prims or even dress properly.

If you are serious about wanting to get to know SL, I don't mind being a mentor. However if you are not willing to learn how SL works, then we would be only wasting each other's time.

  6. The first thing that I do with anyone who is not sure what their size is in mesh is to take them to a store like Maitreya. Stores like that were one of the first to come out with mesh, and they use standard size. Once you know your size in standard size, then you can go and shop at other stores.

Like someone mentioned before, each size is made according to certain specifications in:

    Women:
    Body Fat
    Torso Muscle
    Breast Size
    Love Handles
    Belly Size
    Leg Muscle
    Butt Size
    Saddle Bags

    Men:
    Body Fat
    Belly Size
    Torso Muscle
    Love Handles
    Leg Muscle
    Butt Size
    Saddle Bags
    Package
    Pectorals

So in theory, you should be able to make changes in other areas without it affecting the mesh. For instance, you can change body thickness to make yourself bigger without using body fat.

One of the issues that I have with the template mesh is that it is not rigged correctly. I have noticed in pants that there is a gap on the left side of the waist, and on the right it looks like I'm too big for it. Sometimes I wish I could just yank it over so it can fit lol. Other times I have noticed that in order for me to fit into the mesh, I would have to change a slider other than what is stated above, which is no good. I don't buy mesh from those places. Also, because the designer is not making the mesh, the alpha isn't always exactly right, either.

I hear people say they have so many shapes for different mesh clothing...why? Just make one good shape for mesh clothing, and then shop at quality stores that have mastered rigging items. Not everyone's shape can fit into the standard sizes of mesh, but I think more people would be able to if they understood what the real issue is, and address it.

  7. If you are new to SL, you most likely will not have the skills needed to model someone's products to make them appealing for customers to purchase, You will need good skin, hair, and the ability to edit your shape (for mesh) and/or prims to fit clothing to your body. It would also be good if you had an idea of what poses are most flattering to the items that you would be modeling.

Trry getting some decent items from group gifts and hunts first if you want free items.

  8. With the way SL is, I wouldn't buy anything that I wanted to be a permament fixture as no copy. I remember there was a time SL was eating all of my no copy stuff upon me rezzing it. If your items were returned to you and something went wrong, then you would be out of luck on that item.

The reselling idea wouldn't work (unless maybe if it was a gatcha item) because all people would have to do is go look to see who created the item, and then purchase from that person.

  9. When a DJ contacts the person who needs a DJ, I would expect them at the time to state what sort of music they play,  their payment policy, and inquire about the days/times. If the club management likes the DJ, then they meet up and finalize the details.

When I was assistant manager, I looked at DJ's profiles to see if

    1. they played at other places  (and what day/time)

    2. how much would it be for 2 hours and is it a fixed fee + tips, tips only, or to cover the difference if the DJ did not receive a certain amount of tips

    3. did they have their own stream

    4. did they have their own fan group

I think the point in posting is to see who can they get, so they want to keep it general as possible. Then when the DJ and management comminicate inworld, then they will discuss things further.

Popular DJs tend to have managers who do all the leg work for the DJ so all the DJ has to do is show up and play.

  10. In elementary school, I learned it in second grade, and then after that we were required to write in cursive instead of print. I don't think it takes much time to learn at all. How do people sign documents without writing in cursive?

I think with all of this budget cuts in the education system, children are being cheated out of a well rounded education. I even heard that some schools cut out phys ed. and then they wonder why childhood obseity is on the rise.

  11. Hi! My name is Monica, and I am looking for a female roommate to live with me at my beach house. I blog, model, and from time to time work with business owners on marketing or managing their businesses. I love dancing, and I have friends who work at nightclubs as dancers or DJs. Shopping (or window shopping) is probably the number one thing I do on Second Life.

My place is located at the corner on a little bit less than 1/8th of a homestead sim. It's pretty quiet, and lag free. Tier is set up to be paid weekly, and I will go into detail with that with those who I talk with inworld. Even though my place is on a moderate sim, I would request that only those who are 18 and over apply.

You would be able to use up to 50 prims/LI to decorate your room and to add some special touches. This is because you would have access to other parts of the house, and it's fully furnished. This includes:

    - Pool area
    - Jetski area
    - Living Room
    - Balcony and Patio area

I have thrown parties from time to time, so it would be cool if my roommate was not uber shy and would like to talk and interact some with other people.

Because my place is on a homestead, I use mesh to reduce the prims/land impact and to get the most out of the space (the house is not mesh though). If mesh is a problem for you, then this living arrangement may not be the best one.

If you are interested, just send me a IM or a NC inworld - Monica Querrien.

  13. If everyone used the proper windlight, there would be no need to wear facelights at all. As for wanting people to see them, people can see if a person is very nicely put together, or needs work. Proper lighting isn't going to make someone look drastically different if everyone is being viewed in the same lighting.
