  2. A few years ago, along with TNC - Totally Naughty Clothes, I opened and ran a fairly successful Woman's Lounge called Woman-2-Woman. The group still exists and after coming back to SL and opening up Tara's Creations I have also decided to try and reopen the lounge as well. (You are welcome to check the success of Tara's Creations on the MP or InWorld). This is not a hook-up club, nor a dating club. It is meant for serious issues in a wonderful fun environment. This is the basic idea behind Woman-2-Woman This is a paid position, and is not related to selling clothing in Tara's Creations. You will need the following qualifications: You are serious about woman's issues in our modern world. You are reliable and trustworthy. You know how to navigate SL Marketing and Groups. You can find (with help) decent lectures on issues that are of interest to Women. You can use Voice (this is critical). You are a great organizer. You spend a lot of time in SL and have been in SL for at least 18-24 months. You are easy to get along with, a great marketer, and devoted to the modern issues which women face both in Real and in SL. If you meet the above qualifications please contact Tara Simone [Random Sixpence] by IM or Notecard. These days due to rl my hours in SL are limited, so if you cannot catch me on line please send me a notecard about your qualifications and interests. If you know anyone who is interested (and you are not) please pass this information along to them.
  3. Over a period of 8 years I have been able to watch LL make decisions, improvements, mistakes and do some fairly stupid things. I cannot make any claim as to why they decided on the up in fees for transactions, though the Sansar debacle may be more to the point. The fact is this new fee structure is simply price-gouging. I don't know any other way to say it. Years ago I owned a huge design house in SL. Then the fees were decent and every month I was able to pull out USD from Lindens at fair fees. But then there were 80K people on the grid at good times and the selling market was good. I left SL for 3+ years and came back 6 months ago and again opened a design house. This time though, due to constraints of time I just put back in in terms of Lindens what I make and enjoy the design time I have. The market though has shrunk incredibly. Even with all the additions of Mesh, Bento and now AniMesh, if you look at the numbers the maximum you will see on the grid at the best of times is between 50-52K. This is a far cry from years ago. So it does seem that LL is just trying to make the same amount or more from less SL'ers. It impacts the merchants. It impacts anyone who is coming into to VR and seeing if it is for them. But the real impact comes when the fees effect the legitimate merchants. They in turn will raise their prices. (I have seen a few do this already). That in turn will cause the "consumers" to shop less. Because they too, are paying more to transfer real money to Lindens. Which will of course, bring out of the woodwork ever more of those "so called creators" who rip off things and sell them for 10L. Fees go up for transactions Less real money is transferred into Lindens Which equates to less buying power Merchants are forced to raise fees or accept the losses incurred while their tier and land, advertising and development fees remain the same or go up. When prices go up -> less purchases. Those who seek to profit or just break even are forced to either raise fees or abandon. Those of us who seek just to stay even (what goes in goes out but no more) are forced to create less. Those who want to transfer back to real money are forced to pay ludicrous charges for the transfer. (LL charges, PayPal charges, Banks charge and down the line. That all has to be figured in the profit margin from SL products. So a 1% increase is really not just a 1% increase in the sales price. This is really simple math.) So I am kind of in doubt as to the economic logic and benefit here. Instead of trying to increase the global SL economy, by increasing sales and concentrating on an increased user-base what LL seems be doing is to be milking the cow until it is dry. So the economic sense seems counter productive, the fees are really price-gouging and those of you who rely on real money from SL will have a much harder time legitimizing to yourselves the economic sense of being a merchant in SL. Whoever is giving economic advice to LL needs to go back to school and study economy all over again. But as in all things, in 3 months time, everyone will have accepted the new fee structure and that will be that. The long term effect though will simply be less money in and out of SL, via LL. Then what happens? MHO
  4. Here is my take on enhanced listings, my own 2 cents after years of being a designer in SL. This is a personal evaluation based on my number crunching as Dakota Linden said. I have flirted and still do with Enhanced Listings. Home Page, Category Page --> you name it. This is what I found (again based on years of doing this) 1. Like anything else in SL there may be absolutely no correlation between what you advertise and what is purchased. Keep in mind a potential customer may click on the advertised item, look at the related items and start going from there. There is no way to track that and no way to know if any given sale on the MP was a direct result of the advertise or not. 2. Does it help sales? Well, it may not help sales, but if you have the funds and you are still being profitable, it may help to go to a main Category page and put a few items there, (I only do for a week at a time). That is simply the ABC of branding. Customers land and constantly see your items. It goes in and though you may not make a sale then, the name will start being branded into customer's heads. 3. Does it make you money? Again just looking at clicks is like creating an App and trying to sell it for millions based upon clicks. No one in the high tech business would ever buy into that click ratio. In the real world investors and owners want the click to pay ratio. This LL does not give you, nor can they the way the system is now. Again no tracking from one item to another etc. 4. I have a few times advertised nothing, advertised one item, advertised over a period of a week 10 items (divided between category and home). Yes there was a little tick up in sales in some things and certainly the Demo addicts had a field day! (Do not get me started on the Demo addicts!) Other items did nothing while inworld they were selling. It is really impossible to tell. MHO, those stats on clicks are from the 1990's. They mean nothing anymore. Certainly not to your pocketbook or your investment. 5. In regard to actual sales I just said this to a friend -> the following is copied and pasted from the convo (only what I said) though below is about advertising in SL in groups etc.. But I believe the same thing applies to the MP in many ways. All the above has led me to believe that sales are not what to expect from the Enhanced Listings. Use them to brand your name and type of items you sell. Do it enough times, with sanity over your pocketbook and funds, and you will begin to see new customers both at the MP and InWorld. Just do not expect to make thousands of sales based on an enhanced listing. Also keep your own spreadsheet. I used to be shocked when I spoke with other designers who had no clue what any item they created actually cost them. If you do not know the cost, which includes advertising and uploads and creation and all the other things (even events), then how can you know if you are turning a profit? I no longer am shocked. I just shrug and keep my mouth shut. To each their own. Like I said at the beginning. This is my own 2 cents. You may find your mileage varies or you totally disagree. As in everything else...never sweat the little stuff
  5. I just saw this topic and it has been something I have been thinking and wondering about for quite some time. I have no idea if I am a "relevant" or "irrelevant" merchant as some people have called them in this post. I think all merchants trying to sell something on the MP or in-world are relevant in their own way. People buy what they wish to buy in the MP and in SL itself. This may be considered to be off-topic or not, but I do not think this is entirely a problem of MP, in listing of freebies. The fact is, I think any clothing designer will admit to, is there has been for quite some time, a lot of what one would call "dumping" of freebie and 10-30L items in SL. I have no idea nor do I want to comment on how these merchants make any money or what the impeteus is to dump items at those prices. They mostly seem to buy templates do not do a thing to them and dump them on the market, or so it seems. This is their right to do according to the TOS. The end result though is, logically, that the massive dumping of freebies in SL will reflect itself in any MP search. I personally use 0L items for Mesh demo's and footprints and LM's if the need is there. Each person has the right to decide on their own pricing and business plan. I respect this. But this Freebie in-world dumping does hurt many many other merchants. Indeed if you seach the MP you will find many designers and builders who state they no longer have in-world businesss, and use the MP and also cut prices drastically. The economy, plus the decreasing grid, and it is decreasing at an extremely scary rate, makes more and more people spend less money, IMHO. If I were new in SL based just upon the "hunts" and "freebies" I do not know if I would be tempted to spend 1L on anything as it is all available out there for free if you spend time "hunting" or searching for Freebies. I also know of no designer who claims a 70K sale rate a day. I find claims like that extremely unlikely and thus suspicious by nature. However, anyone can claim what they wish to claim I guess, but there is no need to call someone who sells less "irrelevant" or be snide and cynical. MP I think reflects a much more deep and difficult overall problem that is effecting SL for almost a year. Decreasing numbers, Sims disappearing at a rate that is quite astounding (and this has been documented over at Metaverse blog) or if you are in certain groups where people sell off sims you can just watch the number of messages a day that come in for Sim Sales. Many people do not have the economic power to buy the items that once sold easily (be they of good or bad quality-that is not for me to judge.) Merchants, many good ones, are just trying to swim above the tide for the moment and see which way it goes. The MP is a mirror of SL whether or not the algorithm for search is good, great or horrible. So Freebie items, which are being dumped in SL in ever-increasing numbers, and those with a 10L or 30L price that used to sell for much more, find their place in the MP and people will buy them and move them up in the rankings. I dont think this is due to the MP. I think this is all due to the way LL has and continues to treat and price itself out of the market. Land costs X. Uploads cost Y. Creating takes time. Some people have said "screw this" and I guess figure why not just dump it all (like those who refuse to sell off their sims and just give them back). It is a huge mess and something that LL really must deal with or find itself in a cycle of decreasing numbers and then decreasing sales and slowly kill itself off. So the search algorithms while I do admit make no sense to me (especially the Best-Selling one which does not seem to have any connection with Best Selling items as far as I can tell from my own store), I think this is but a small part of a much larger problem. It does not help a discussion though, by putting down other merchants or calling others names because you consider yourself to be a "highly regarded merchant". It may or may not be true. But everyone who sells in SL and in the MP is relevant. So I will sign off by calling myself a completely irrevelant merchant in SL who agrees the MP algorithms are way way off, but they do reflect the truth in regard to Freebies and very low priced items of what is going in-world.
  6. Sedi I will contact you in-world, but the response so far in less than a week to Woman-2-Woman has been amazing.
  7. I certainly respect your right to an opinion on the topic, but I was not aware that this was a post to request open debate as to whether one likes the idea or does not like it. There are hundreds of online Web, Facebook and LinkedIn groups devoted to women's topics only. Why? Because these are considered invaluable to women looking for information, say on Breast Cancer or on Women in the job place. For someone who owns a company called "Mommy, Inc." well I think that speaks for itself, unless I woke up in a universe where Males suddenly started giving birth. And in this case, it is very clear there are very specific issues in regard to preganancy and birth that are for women and subjects for women. Not everyone thinks of SL as some hugh Roleplay enviornment. Some people actually want to enhance knowledge, education and experience. Shocking thought, I know. But nevertheless true. So while I respect the right to any and all opinions on the matter it remains clear that just as you have the right to do and say as you please, down to virtual babies, so do others. That is all I will say in answer to the above. I think one should be wary of offering an opinion when the house they live in has walls of glass. And if you like go right ahead. Open your own group dealing with subjects you would want to deal with. All the more power to you.

  10. Wow if not for this post I would never have known about that GOTCHA! Amazing this is not documented anywhere, or was not when they put up DD. Figures...just figures.
  11. I read the posts here again and I am a bit amazed at the standards you are holding up a search engine built by LL. For those of you who ever did a search on Google or any search engine, even Google will admit 90% of the answers have nothing to do with the term you entered or the information you require. So you will say here, that the Keywords determine it all. Simply NOT true. Folks, any search engine, take Amazon for instance, uses "Categories" & "Search Keywords" plus information in the description their engine flags as "unique" or "special". Books can end up in categories they were never flagged for by the authors or publishers. Search engines do not only work on keywords of the person who input the information. (Try Amazon, Wikipedia etc. for examples) Search engine algorithims are helped by keywords they are not the only determination. For those who want to be keyword police, go to the source of the page and look up the keywords, go right ahead. Be my guest. I dont know about others here but I have a great deal more important things to do than "Policing Keywords". Yes it is annoying. Yes some merchants do take advantage. Yes it is a pain. I do not think though, this is the red flag that everyone should be gathering around in the MP. There are so many things totally out of whack in the MP right now, (any merchant will tell you this), that policing keywords is about as low as you can get on the totem pole. Yes, many people will find this attitude incredibly annoying and friviolous especially since I am a merchant. I understand your frustration. But really, looking up source code to see the keywords so you can report the merchant???? I mean come on, breathe. live. Get a life. Pass on the picture and offer and go on to the next. May this be our biggest problem in SL!
  12. As a merchant I will say abusing keywords is a pain when you are looking for something. But people, please bear in mind that you have no idea what keywords the merchant is using, and it could be it is not the merchant's fault but that of the system that throws up unrelated material. Just because we type in a specific search parameter and get items that don't belong does not always mean it is coming from the merchant. It may be coming from the system itself. So you really have to be careful "reporting". The system as well is very puritan. For instance if you write "open top which covers up the nipples" you will probably have the system move that into a Mature or Adult category because of the use of the word nipples, even if this product is just a top. I have had this done with a collection which is called "Sexy Bi*ch" (the t is used in place of the star). It is a full jacket, pants and boots. But because of the name it was considered "Adult". So rememeber sometimes it is not the merchant but the system. But if you feel the keywords are totally misused by the merchant over and over again, then do report them.
  13. Unlike others here I migrated over 4,500 items. I did this because of the original cutoff dates and since Passover starts on Friday and will not be able to do it for 2 -3 weeks I figured no matter what I need to get it done. It took a lot more time than it should due to the slowness of the web site. But due to a suggestion from Darrius Gothly and some, let us say, workarounds on my part I got it done. Everything is listed as DD and when people buy I do get paid now. The only thing that seems to happen, or happened, as it is not happened in a couple of days, is a customer bought an item, got it delivered and then got the exact same item delivered again and was charged again in the same minute. So I am pretty sure there are mess-ups with the LL payment system as well. I do not see any pictures borked, BUT I did not check 4,600 listings for this. It could be some are borked. I also have not seen any "failed deliveries" so I guess I am very lucky so far. Knock on wood. I did post however what everyone should do AFTER they migrate. Take a look, and my advice is make sure you do it. POST DD CHECK
  14. I just had a customer complain she was charged twice for an item from MP. Sure enough I looked up orders and at the exact same minute the customer was charged twice for the exact same item. So I paid her back for one and told myself let LL have the comission rather than deal with it. Then I go look at my transactions and discover there is no payment to me for the item, and went back to look the day before for orders and discover the same thing. In other words LL is being paid and the Merchant is not. Also this is not a Unicode problem. You would think they could at least get that one right!
  15. There is a real simple way around this. Artizan has a product, when you box an item, you put in a script with a config card. When the customer opens the box, it asks 1 time and 1 time only (script self-deletes once the box is rezzed) if the customer wants to join X group. Their is even a hook in for Smartbots so if they do join the group it is your SL group. The script self deletes so it is not spam, and the text of the message to the client is what you put in the config card. Works well. And gives the customer the chance to join. They do not want to join, they click Decline the script deletes anyways, and that is that.
