  1. You only had one short discussion in group chat with one person that probably didn't know you and then it's easy to misunderstand someone. "You're not in our clique, so you're probably not good enough." seems such an unlikely thing to say, even if that's what the other person was thinking. I wouldn't feel so strongly about it. I can imagine they don't get exited just because someone claims to be able to fill a gap. If they don't know you what reason could they have to let you try anyway ? They don't know if you will be a good teacher, someone should take the time to see how you are doing, maybe you will quit after two or three attempts, you would probably have to be fitted in a schedule at the expense of someone else's time. So volunteer or not it would require time and effort from them as well. If you really want to teach you may get to know the group a little better first and let them get to know you better as well.
  2. There is no need to keep your PayPal account filled, I have no money on it and when I purchase any lindes I do have those within seconds. I don't really know how they do that though because as you say, it does take a few days for the money to be withdrawn from your bank account. The smallest amount you can purchase btw is $2.50 worth of lindens, not $25. And that 2.5 is the smallest amount you can buy at Lindex, PayPall would allow you to buy even smaller amounts.
  3. What you describe sounds like an impostor avatar. I don't know what happens when you give "non-impostor avatars" a low number and another avi moves closer to the camera then you are. You might become an impostor yourself. Have you checked if you have avatar impostors on and maybe given it a low number ? You could try to give it a higher number then. I suppose in Singularity it will be in the graphics tab of your preferences as well.
  4. Firestorm allready has adapted to local textures. I don't know when they did it but it has been like that for some time now and i'm not on the newest version of Firestorm. It's done in allmost the same way as in V3. The thing I really like about local textures is that when you apply them and have them open in Gimp / Photoshop at the same time you can work on them there and see the changes in world imidiately just by hitting the save button. You won't have to upload them again. Not pleased with the result ? just undo and hit the save button again. It's a nice way of working on textures.
  5. If you want to replace it with a texture that is already in your invento it will be free of charge. If you need to upload it from harddrive first then it will cost you L$10 for each texture you upload.
  6. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by edit but assuming the texture is fullperm rightclicking it in your invento will bring the option "save as" . This will store it on your harddrive where you can edit it with Gimp or Photoshop.
  7. I don't know what you mean by isolating a teleporter but assuming you know the names of the objects or part of it a easy way of finding them I would say is in the pathfinding menu. Just rightclick any object > more > more > pathfinding > Show in linksets. This will show a popup with a list of all objects on your plot (and some more but I don't know what those are ...) In the top left you can filter the objects by a search string. So if the teleporters have the word teleport in their name just type "teleport" here and you will have a list of all teleporters. If you select one of them then in the centre of the popup you'll even have a button "teleport me here"
  8. I'm not entirely sure about this but I do read your post as a surprise of a sim called "rape-city" being promoted rather then disapproval of it's existence. I do have to agree on that. This post made me think of an artist, Susa Bubble, being removed from SL's anniversary exhibition a few years ago because she showed some nipples, it created quite a riot at the time. If LL does take not offending people so serious they remove artists from exhibitions just because they show nipples they can not promote a sim called "rape-city" on the main page. There is need to log in at the main page to be surprised either. Just go to the market place and look at what people are buying now or the featured items list. I often think about Susa when shopping at the MP, it makes me giggle. But regardless of that, I think promoting such a sim expresses bad taste and a gross indifference, it doesn't belong there and it's not exactly advertising for SL.

The exception is if the item is on transfer. Then it is supposed to go back to its original owner who deeded the item. In practice, this doesn't always seem to happen. Don't pose the server questions it cannot answer or it deletes... That's not true, if I own a object and and set it to a group I will still be the owner. I just checked it, I had three different objects, one transefer, one copy/mod and one full perm and I deeded them to a group that didn't own the land they were on. All three of them were returned to my lost and found folder by autoreturn.
  10. Traditionally creators have always used the very same mesh for clothing and that was the avi itself. If they still do what they have always done, and that is texturing meshes, then what mesh has changed is that they now have the option of texturing different ones and that is what they do if they buy a mesh model. So although it may not look like it maybe the variety has increased. Besides, I don't think buying models is entirely new. In the pre-mesh era you saw the same sculpted boots and shoes everywhere. Maybe it's just because a dress catches more attention then just boots so you notice it easier when the same model has been used. Having said that, in a lot of sims, especially medieval ones, I see the same houses everywhere, as if there is only a handful of creators. And although the quality of the houses themselves is rather good I do become increasingly bored if I walk into the same tavern for the fifth sim in a row. So I'm not sure what to think here. Building things in SL has always been creating surfaces to texture. If the impression of conformity will disappear then it will probably be last in clothing. I think meshes for clothes are among the hardest to make and creators of clothes, besides an occasional sculpt, don't have a history of "creating surfaces".
  11. If you redeed the land to the new group then autoreturn will be turned off automatically. When you turn autoreturn back on however everything not set to the new group will return to the lost and found folders of the owner(s) So if you want that turned on then you should do it like this: 1. Turn off autoreturn 2. Deed the land to the new group 3. Set all items on the land to the new group 4. Turn autoreturn back on
  12. In wings 3D (the program i'm using) the command is object > combine. It took a while but i found it \o/ and no problems with UV maps. thanks Drongle
  13. Hello, I am trying to make bushes made out of "tiles" in mesh, each tile is just a flat square. The looks are wonderful but when I upload it into SL each tile counts as one prim and the PE becomes rather high. I've seen many bushes and trees made this way but they usually count as one prim and as long as they are kept small the PE usually is somewhere around one or two, not thirty. So ... What's the way around this, how do I import the tiles into SL as just one prim / object ?
  14. I could be wrong but I think this is the manuscript. http://vhil.stanford.edu/pubs/2009/harris-tracking.pdf A few statistics and lots of references ... It only makes me wonder what the study was about.
  15. What might help is clearing your cache. It does happen sometimes that sculpts look weird, maybe not all of them, only a few. But after clearing the cache they all look normal again. It's worth a try ...
  16. Qwalyphi Korpov wrote: The Lindens track when new registrants abandon the process. It seems that choosing a surname causes huge numbers to give up and leave. I can imagine that, if you were looking for a surname you had to find your way trough lists of names that came randomly. You just had to keep clicking until you saw a name you liked and no way to go back if you saw a better one on a previous list. Impossible to work with if you wanted a specific name. Not user friendly and rather time consuming. Anyway ... I'm still wondering if allowing the space as a character to separate the names in the system as we have it would not have made everybody happy.
  17. I ran into the same thing, the problem does not seem to occur when you sign in first.
  18. For mesh I use Wings3D. I believe it does have the same functionality as Jass/Blender (I can't be sure though since, after several attempts, I gave up on learning that one) It's also a freeware program and I found it quite easy to learn. It really beats me why most people use Blender, maybe it's just because ... most people use Blender ? anyway ... Another free program comes from Daz Studio, it's called Hexagon but I've used it too little to have much of an opinion about it.
  19. The same thing did happened to me a few days ago, except my face was chocolate coloured. It dissapeared by wearing a different outfit.
  20. Besides attaching it to the skull you can also attach objects to the chin, nose, mouth, eyes or ears. (on the head that is) Try attaching the hat to one of those.
  21. It's quite simple assuming you have a normal AO First you need to copy all animations from the hud to your inventory. - drag the hud to the ground and rightclick on it, select edit, then go to the content tab - copy / drag all animations and the notecard to your inventory, the notecard is probably called "default" (i would create a separate folder for this) After you have done this you can tell Singulariy what to do with it - select "Singularity" in the top menu and go to Animation override, this pops up a small screen - drag the notecard called "default" (probably) to the top of the screen where it says "drop notecard" That's all there is to it If you want to add more animations later on you can put them in the same folder and edit the notecard

Madelaine McMasters wrote: I am saying that the presumption that LL is ignoring us, or that they are incompetent, is an extrapolation from a world view that is quite likely less complete than LL's. If that doesn't give you cause for reflection, so be it. Whatever it is you are referring to, it's not something you heared me say.
  23. If I bring forward an idea and you reply with something like LL has all the data and has a broader view then apearently you think discussion is pointles and/ or LL is without error. That is what your answer suggested anyway.
  24. I don't know exactly what he said but Just data without a good explanation is meaningless. I assume Rodvik sees a bigger picture then we do, yes, but that doesn't mean LL is without error and it doesn't mean discussion is pointless.
  25. Madelaine McMasters wrote: I can't go back to find the post on his feed in which he mentions it, but Rod did specify that they looked carefully at signup data and saw a substantial uptick when the single name system was introduced. This suggests that camp 2 may have a lot of tents. The people that signed up must have known about the single names thing, this counts out new people and the upthick in signup data must have been a rush on alts. The last name "Resident" is not so special i suppose and you don't need an alt to change a displayname ... I always thought it came from people that wanted to create an alt before all good single names would be gone.So if it points in any direction i think it's camp 1.
