a letter on a card helps determine the size or presence of a "pistol"? I'm not sure which is more impressive, the leap of illogic or the failure of the metal detector.

and when (or where) did they start allowing "typical" photos for ID? last I checked they all required largely unadorned headshots, current at the time of issue.

well i'll try to explain, oh actually i wont bother, you just wouldnt get any of it anyway.

No need to be this rude, Dogboat.

there are people dying in africa and im sure they are a tad unhappy too.

i've known a few self labelers, the majority are spoilt kids.

You need to pull your head out of your ass, you have apparently depleted your oxygen supply again and assumed the role of your **bleep**.

my upbringing was different to yours.

i lost my parents and only brother and frankly i'm pretty tough.

self pity and self labeling irritates me

    I'm sorry for your losses.

Having a condition is not a form of self-pity.  Just like having a **bleep** does not necessitate that you act like one.

telling strangers on line is an obvious sign of self pity. im not a "bleep" as you put it, i had to go through a lot and i dont have time for self pitying people who dont know how lucky they are. and invent problems.

    we all get moody.

If you did not indeed have time for self-pity, you would not have, at any point, have utilized "i lost my parents and only brother" in any reply.  It is a pity statement intended to evoke a sympathy that prevents individuals from holding you responsible for your less than stellar behavior.

it wasnt meant for sympathy it was fitting in this thread, i dont need to act in a "stellar" way its the truth as i see it.

when tyour kids are acting up do you say oh they are so adhd or whatever the current phrase is or do you punish them by taking away their toys?

    you should try it sometime.

Thanks for the thread Scylla but people are being so rude I won't be replying anymore.

I don't know if I would refer to the person who was rude to you as "people". I'm very supportive of consolidating the genera Pan and Homo and listing Pan troglodytes as a human species, but I won't extend the same courtesy to this anonymous creature that has time and time again proven to have no respect whatsoever for human beings. Just ignore it like we all do.

its called honesty, let them carry on thinking that everyone cares if you like but they will be fat lonely 60 year olds before they know it.

thats exactly what happens and i have seen it happen several times, and your life is over bar the shouting.

The irony can be that when it is *you*, you don't always feel like being the trailblazer educating them through example LOL.

I guess it never hurts to show people that you can hold down a full time job and not need to take copious amounts of lithium to do it (no offence to lithium takers, I can't metabolise meds) and I may be the first bipolar person that person has met.  If they have only known me, their default assumption will be that a person with bipolar can do a job, and that is a cause I feel quite strongly about right now.

i just dont get why people have to label themselves.

you cant metabolise meds? why not,.care to explain?

you are probably the first person that cant.

  7. i'm not interested in peoples supposed sexuality either and i often get misunderstood, by the PC brigade, ill try to explain it again..

we are not just a sexuality unless we just want to be just a sexuality, i find that attitude very shallow.

hey im gay, hey im transexual,  hey so what who cares i like big boobs but i dont go round telling the world about it, snore.

is an example of someone asking for help but who can't be bothered to type properly.  While I can't be bothered to correct them I certainly can't be bothered to translate this to English so that I can assist either.  As a secondary consideration it makes me think they are under 16 and so should not be in SL anyway.

There have been a few questions there this week that were incomprehensible even with a close reading.  Clearly they were by non-English speakers and that's perfectly understandable.  The usual advice there is to try asking in their own language.  When someone clearly IS an Engliah-speaker but is too lazy, sloppy or impolite to ask properly then they don't deserve the time we could spend helping people who need it.

    and deserves to be disciplined?

    lol

doesn't this say a lot about the people you associate with?

the only ponies i know of are pony girls,,does this say a lot about the people i associate with?

well it shouldnt, i've only met one and i decided she had a screw loose.

Ah, it is a cold and dreary day here in the Mid-Atlantic.  Soon the days will seem short again, and the frosty air will compel us to don our snuggies and spend countless hours with our laptops and PC's that our friends and enemies live in!  How exciting!

I see a few of the Troll breeds have already selected their targets and are soaking them in a salty brine before they bring the flame.  Over achievers.

I can't wait to see the creative use of vocabulary, that often sounds like something that needs a medicated cream, but is usually just an obscure reference to mean "you bring shame to all carbon based life forms."

My hopes are not as high for this season...moderation escalation, and of course, the loss of our most beloved Pedant Troll.

I can't even imagine what subjects are left to Troll.  BDSM has been beat all to hell.  No pun.  Child avatars, well, that dead horse was kicked all the way to the glue factory...

I think we need a good old fashioned debate concerning the overwhelming sense of entitlement that is so often displayed by the voluntary users of the LL service...Grid and bear it!

What subjects are you looking forward to as we enter Trollgate 2011?

straight adult people doing normal things that your grandmother would be ok with.

maybe north american grammar but its not english grammar.  how far do you want to go?

Colloquialisms are not grammar related and should not be confused.  It is at the author risk when used.  How far do you want to go?

i don't talk like a north american and i,m not familiar with its often seemingly slipshod structure

do you want grammar or not?  should colloquilisms be used or not? how far do you want to go?

and more importantly does it really matter with a gun pointed at your head?

Failing to use proper grammar and spelling does tend to make people seem less intelligent. Therefore, the opinion of someone who does not use proper grammar and spelling may be less respected than the opinion of someone who does use proper grammar and spelling. There is a difference between a typo (of which I have made several while typing this, but quickly correctly those I spotted) and truly poor spelling and grammar. Just because I understand what someone is saying doesn't mean I wouldn't prefer to see the same thing written correctly - and I would probably take the opinion more seriously.

I never make fun of people for poor spelling. I might, however, point out to someone that their opinion is of little to no value to me because it is garbled and poorly written. After one or two exchanges with someone's whose grammar and spelling are poor and who refuses to even consider another point of view, I don't blame people for finally saying "Your grammar and spelling suck, and I don't respect what you're saying, so I'm done talking to you."

Naturally, it's important to consider that the person typing may not be a native English speaker, though.

but if they have a valid view and their "spelling and grammar sucks" what then?

you seem to regard the spelling and grammar more than the validity of the point itself.

but you are not alone, evidently.

by the way "i'm done with you" maybe north american grammar but its not english grammar.

I'd like to point out that expecting a major announcement for an updated FAQ is kinda silly... no polices changed.

that is entirely incomparable to situations where policies change (we get updated user agreements for those), or normal actions result in monetary or content loss (we only get spotty grid status reports on those).

    issues of immediate
    improtance
NEED to be announced inworld upon discovery, and added to all login messages until they are resolved.

I can only think of two situations where those would absolutely need to happen... both when normal actions are taken, and result in either content damage or monetary loss. general temporary failures are ok to report on the grid status page alone... TP or login failures (for instance) are annoying, but they don't take money out of my pocket... the other two do.

    importance? :matte-motes-evil-invert:

    lol.
