  1. Awww!!! Val! You should have hunted me down last night and told me you were going to start this thread! I was so totally demoheaded up last night I could have started my own art gallery with my silly photos! Oh well. Now it's back to the hair shops tonight to create my wayward masterpieces :womanhappy:

I'm still trying to get rid of the three we already have. (Anyone wanna buy some slightly used offspring? Mostly housebroken. Able to drop things on the floor. Still practicing tossing garbage INTO the can. Friendly, all shots, good with computers.) I like the way you write ads. Any chance I can leave my rabble-rousing 5 year old daughter on a consignment deal? Maybe you can get "AS-IS, NO REFUNDS" past the buyers where I've failed...repeatedly and vigorously :womantongue: My little angel... /me sighs adoringly Anyway! You all will be happy to know (and I got your board Marigold, thank you!) that I did look through and figure out what was what last night. I had 103 script count or something like that and then found out that the necklace I was wearing was 37 of it. Took that off and put on my choker (innuendo-packed comments = false) and I was in the 70's, and everything was of course very very smooth. I checked into all my necklaces at that point and they were all between 30-40 scripts. Those Moodys I was so worried about? Only 6 scripts. WHEW! Not much worse than my sandals. Hairstyles were mostly good also. 2 scripts at max, but most had none. So I went looking for more hair immediately of course! 2 = can not do! And then I found what you all were talking about, as I tried on a demo of some really long flowing hair that was a different style than mine but not any more full seeming. 222 scripts! LOL! No sale - I'll call ya if anything changes! Thanks everyone for all of your help! :womanvery-happy:

Which designers have taken up the mantle from them as far as prestige and quality? I have so much to rediscover in SL! Yup, it is true. No idea about what shoemakers are the best these days. Or ever were. My refusal to buy no-mod items effectively killed my shopping will long time ago. Way too many good looking shoes seem to be no-mod. I have a feeling the soemakers will update their products sooner or later. If not sooner, then that day when LL slam us with the script limits. Here is a story that is couple months old: I decided that it is time to find a pretty pair of new shoes. After some searching in marketplace i found a pair of shoes that were stunning. So i went to the shop in world. Found out that the shoes are no-mod. But since they were oh so pretty, i decided to IM the creator and ask if it would be possible to get modable or atleat a pair that dont have 400 resize scripts in them. After all, all ladies in SL have size 0 feet. We dont need resize scripts in our shoes. No reply to IM but the shoemaker was up in his skybox above the mall. Maybe he is AFK i thought, and patiently waited couple hours, admiring the picture of the pretty shoes. Then i saw he moved. So hes not AFK. Waited a good 30min. Then sent him IM: "i see your moving so your not AFK, could you ansfer my question please." And i got IM that he don't do customer support at weekends. So i waited till monday. Went back to the shop and sent him IM. No reply, so sent notecard. Offered a good 1000L$ extra for all the trouble of removing the scripts from the shoes. I got IM and he told me that it is not possible to get modable version but he will make a scriptless version and sell it to me. Today im still waiting those shoes..... Wow, what a drag. Although I guess the lack of real enforceability of copyrighting and/or difficulty in preventing people from copying/slightly altering and then reselling products makes the unwillingness to allow mod/copy sort of understandable. I guess it just depends on what hand you get, and what designer you luck upon. Take my skin and shape for example. I went to ALady for my first shape, and never changed. I ended up loving it so much that I IMd the proprietor and asked her if she could, since the shape was no mod/copy, make me shapes with slightly different dimensions (shorter, slightly smaller cup size, slighly wider hips, etc.). She ended up making me a package with 8 different variations of the shape with each dimensional change I asked for spread amongst the individual shapes, covering everything I wanted. I had a freebie skin that I'd loved and worn always. I decided I wanted tattoos, tanlines, and body oil as part of the skin so I didn't need attachments for any of it, and I wanted to alter the face slightly. So I IMd a designer, told her I wanted my skin based on the freebie (since I couldn't have it customized by the original designer who was unfindable), but with the alterations I described and some slight changes. She blended the features of the celebrity I wanted into the original face, did templates for 8 different makeup colors based on the type of colors I wear in RL, and then gave me a package that consisted of my original complexion plus 4 darker shades, both with and without tan lines and oil, a separate group that were modifiable (freckles, wrinkles, etc.), and the original .PSDs for everything. And it's exclusive. All she asked for was the money of course, and the right to use my face in her ads. So I became a model too!! Where shoes are concerned, I agree with you 100%. I don't know why the feet themselves need to be resized. The calves however? That's worth a resize script, IF it is done right. There are two things I can't stand, particularly about boots. One is the calves only fitting the smallest stick figure avies, requiring painstaking alterations by me that always leave gaps between the calf and foot part. The other is...the prevalence of boots with separate calves and foot parts. There's always one pose where they come apart right above the instep and it looks like you've got two compound ankle fractures! :womanmad:

Does it have to have mod permissions to do that? Also, doesn't that mean that any functionality would be lost (like say, changing the opacity of a pair of sunglasses or turning heel clicks on and off) until I manually put the script back in and did reload-scripts? Yes, if you remove the scripts from an "Active" (does something or has menus or options you can use) attachment then you will kill that functionality. However, usually those things have very few scripts, often just one. The biggest offenders are the resize scripts that were put in each and every prim of a multi-prim object .. hair being a good example. Oh my. That sounds like it could get ugly quickly. Just look at my mop in my badge, lol. That's a lot of prims, although I don't know for sure about resize functionality with it. Is that just for hairdos that have a resize option or does even manual adjustment with the SL controls rely on in-prim scripts? Really, I only have one hairdo I think that allows for a style change (from ponytail to bun). I have another from the same maker, and both come with the same 30 color options included - I just double click a new color from inventory to change. Everything else is just regular, meaning it comes one way, doesn't have auto resizing options, and I have to buy a different one for each color. I used to like heel clicks, but now I don't care, or they make me self conscious, so I turn them off. Most of my shoes have them, especially my Moodys (which also have things like chains, anklets, bling, and walks as options). I don't wear a ton of jewelry, but my tummy ring, necklace, and some earrings bling, though not obnoxiously. Using the advice you and everyone gave, I'll be able to go through and see what's what. I had no idea that there could be that many scripts in one attachment. At that rate, maybe 103 total isn't as horrendous as I thought it was. But I know I can get better than that. Thanks so much everyone! I'll modernize yet! :womanvery-happy:
  9. Oooh! thank you everyone for such swift responses! I'm not sure what my avatar rendering cost is, either what the number is or what the term refers to, but I know that I dressed up as I normally do with the usual amounts of blingery (not a ton I promise!) and on Ascent, which lets me view my 'S-Count', I was able to see that I had 103 scripts. That number sounds ridiculous, considering that I would be judging it by how much stuff I had on, and I know I'm not wearing 103 items, but of course that's probably not how it's done and I can't even say what constitutes one script for these purposes. I've heard of people setting themselves up, like with hair or whatnot, and then removing the script within so it doesn't count against the total. Does it have to have mod permissions to do that? Also, doesn't that mean that any functionality would be lost (like say, changing the opacity of a pair of sunglasses or turning heel clicks on and off) until I manually put the script back in and did reload-scripts?
  10. I have a question not directly related to where to sail, but more how to sail at this point. I have a lot of boats, including this beautiful Velociter mega-yacht, jetskis, personal hovercrafts, and another yacht that's like the SW-320 or something, all of which were pretty sweet a yer and a half ago. But I wonder does anyone know of changes to the physics in SL that could be causing boats from say '08-'09 to not rez properly or more to the point, to capsize...immediately upon being rezzed? I mean they either turn upside down or either the front or the back will be underwater and will stay that way. Also, they only go in circles and then go under, as if they are in a whirlpool. It is mucho...embarrassingo! I know I can probably just chase down the manufacturers and ply them with questions but since this is a thread on boating I took a chance that maybe someone recalls having this problem or is familiar with it? Thanks :womanhappy:

Thank Redzone and the other data miners, thank the lindens for allowing the activity even to this day, thank clubs like Gol Element 8 for using Redzone. Greenzone no longer has a detection there, but someone needs to go by there with the new patch and see if they get any suspicious media requests. Most are merely hiding Rz or using another like alts pro that can not be detected. This will be the death of SL and its economy (especially the music economy) if LL doesn't ban these devices and remove them from the grid. The RZ HUD is still out there being worn and scanning anyone anywhere. No, until LL does something more than talk, you can keep your music. I would think club owners, instead of shutting their eyes and criticising those who care about privacy, would be the ones on the forefront of the fight against these detectors because YOU have the most to lose, as does anyone who lives off tips, because you won't be getting mine..not possible if I'm not there. I'm really sorry to hear about that. GOL was the 2nd club I attended in SL back in '07 after Festival Island (it was GOL3 then I think) and I remain fond of those memories even if the club itself is nothing, and I do mean nothing, like it was then. So many great places come and gone. I'm at a real loss as to where to go in SL now that I'm coming back in-world more often. At least I still have my Ethereal Teal.
  12. Having been away from SL for quite a while (except for the forums) and not logging in on a frequent basis I've completely lost track of the changes that have taken place in scripting and other areas that may have affected the way bandwidth is used and avie attachments, etc. cost against sims. I've experienced some problems with TPs lately that have resulted in me getting logged out of SL right in the middle of them and it was suggested that my script count might be too high. I haven't significantly changed my avie from when I was in constantly and I never had the problems I've had lately. I was using v.2.5, Kirsten's latest and the latest Phoenix viewers when I was having the problems, but switching to Ascent seemed to have solved the problem as everything rezzes instantly and I haven't had any failed TPs to existing locations. But just so I know, since I can check script count with Ascent now, what is "an excessive amount of scripts", to where I should start feeling like the black hole of every sim I enter?
  13. @ Phil : I was most of the way into a concerted effort to be mysterious enough and unidentifiable enough for long enough to be referred to with trembling awe forever as "Enigma" by everyone at the same time in a burst of forum-wide spontaneous mental synchronicity. I was already working on my supervillainous cackle and new outfit with "?!?!" all over it. But after three hours, I was already referring to myself as "Hey You! Ditz!" So with a heavy heart, I abandoned my life's work and allowed my identity to seep into the light via a nice controlled gradient glow where my name appears. Nothing has been the same since. :womansad: When people tell you it's not intentional, do not believe them. It is a diabolical trick. I am not the only one with agendas.

In 3 years in SL, I have never met a "clone" repliqua of my avi. Being creative with hair, eyes, mixing clothes, AOs, etc, allow you to have your own special look which will make people recognize you in any circumstances. (not even mentioning the way you talk to people!). I call it personality. I concur with your experience Val. I have never come across any other avi anywhere near my appearance. Mostly because I had both my shape and my skin commissioned and made exclusive. It is based on a skin I wore before it that I got in a freebie package when I first started in SL. I loved the look, and I got a lot of attention, but I was always wondering how many other people had my same package that could simply put on the same skin, so I decided to customize everything. Nobody knew who the designer was, and I spent 3 months trying to track him/her down with no success. Originally I wanted to make my tattoos, tanlines, and baby oil a part of the skin itself (this was before tattoo layers), but then it took on a life of its own. I ended up having a direct hand in how my features turned out and from where, including hilariously enough, my nose which is based directly on Kristen Kreuk's from Smallville, since she had a similar base look for what I was going for. It cost me a lot but I think it was worth it. I decided against the tattoos, but I got everything else, in multiple skin complexions (so I can actually tan after all unlike RL), with the .PSD files, and I will probably never change, so regardless of what I wear, I will always be unique.

  18. 2007 was so magical here. It's when I got here, and there was so much to do and so many places and people to do it with. It really was a second life then, and it actually felt almost as full at times. Then, like anything people enjoy, some tweaker nanny orgs like the ones that brought us such helpful PSAs as Dungeons and Dragons = the Devil's Spawn, Ozzy Ozzbourne IS that Devil, and Breakdancing Causes Complete and Utter Dementia, decided that LL and all of us were EEVUL DEWERZ who must be stopped and the resulting paranoia took the "your imagination" right out of it. That, and the inexorable march towards being little more than a video telephone app with the voice and other genuine (faux) improvements. Meanwhile as you said, many of the performance and other problems that existed in '07 but were overshadowed by fun are merely standing by themselves now. Completely exposed with nothing to hide behind. By the end of '07 I had something like 80-100 friends who I actually saw on a regular basis, each and every week, most multiple times. Now, of the people who are on my list who actually still have valid accounts (maybe 15), I only see 3 logged in every week. And two of them are RL sisters whose avies are also sisters and roommates. The acronym K.I.S.S. works here too. People didn't come here to be blown out by RL drama and complexity, and don't want it.
  19. Ya isn't sharing accounts among multiple people against the ToS? Pretty open and shut when you admit it right up there in writing.
  20. I can't say I have a lot of experience with ARs, nor do I have experience with encountering admitted 15 year olds (probably guys in my case) trying to redezvous with me in this fashion. But you've done the right thing so far. If you have a record of your AR filing having been received, it is in LL's hands on how to handle it from there. I trust they will, because a situation like this, if not handled in timely fashion, would undermine any appearance of having stepped up to the plate on such matters. Big deal that they've been over the past year or two. As for filing another AR, if your current tactic of appearing offline is working, then I would stick with that barring another encounter with her, which I would guess is unlikely since you never tp'd her to your house and she will likely lose interest and vacate before figuring out what she can buy to discover your true login status. I can't see you two simply bumping into each other by chance. And as for you knowing she's still online and not knowing LL's resolution, all you can do is realize you did your part, and accept that. You can't ban her, or you would. And of course, she was here before you ran into her, as are probably many others like her, and you can't suffer for the existence of all of them. Such is the problem with blanket automated solutions. They are rarely contiguous. There are always holes and gaps to fall through. I hope I helped :womanhappy:

They seem to go through now almost always no matter how busy the sim or how many attachments I have on. Congratulations staff and management of Second Life ! I've been one of your harshest critics but in all fairness, this is outstanding. Thanks for the work. Steve Mahfouz Huh? While I congratulate you on your experiences with getting around I have to actively wonder what you are talking about. In the space of about 2 1/2 hours this past Saturday, and between two different browsers (v.2.5 official and latest Phoenix), I got the "you have been logged out of SecondLife" message and booted out of the system no less than 10 times. I mean I literally could not tp anywhere. It took me three relogs to make one jump and once I did, I couldn't leave there until Sunday morning. And then, when I got booted in similar fashion from my next destinations, it was as if I had never successfully tp'd from the first one, because no matter where I was last, it would still send me back to where I was Satuday after every relog, despite attachment changes and purchases I had made since I left going throgh without reverting back. It was literally the worst performance I have ever experienced in SL since I got here in early '07. A complete joke. Paid software that performed like this would have been pulled off the shelves. And yes, I did clear cache, my bandwidth settings were wide open and devoting 80% of available bandwidth to SL, etc. But again, I'm glad everyone wasn't having the time I was.
