  1. Any measures, however small, that makes it more inconvenient to rip ppl off, I am for.

  3. Yes we were promised much back in May, in the way of reporting and tools, that got left by the wayside. It is a shame that this maturity thing has further derailed the fixing of bugs (though Brooke says that remain a priority) and the addition of necessary features. But I imagine the Commerce Team would have been the last to want to have to deal with maturity ratings, and are simply doing what they have been told to do.
  4. Brooke has already said she will use only text at the next meeting. Honestly, I cannot see how anyone can expect her to do any better/more than she is. She is doing everything we have pleaded the Commerce Team to do, and more. That is not to say that she and the team will do everything perfectly, but she has certainly demonstrated that she will solicit and listen to feedback, and will adjust course when needed. I am sure the maturity settings were not her idea -- yet the almost impossible task of doing so is hers.

She is now better prepared for the Thurs. meeting than if she had not taken the initiative to have some questions answered beforehand. no, I'm talking about the thread marked "user group 2/3" http://blogs.secondlife.com/thread/58707 It's confusing as it seems she has renamed her OH "user groups" or she just mistyped and meant to call it office hours and user groups ARE the other little meetings she's spoken of. Quoted from that post "In order to try accomodating different schedules, I'm having this week's user group (formerly called office hours) at 9am PST on Thursday, 2/3." Was replying to Ciaran, Loving.
  6. No one knows exactly what the User Groups are, just that they will be representative in some way. My guess is that they might be pulled from different time zones, so everyone will have a chance to attend. I do agree that OHs as they are, are fine. Since I no longer have any sort of sleep schedule, I am available to attend any that interest me, and would not want to be excluded from those. But I don't see pulling a focus group for quick feedback is a problem.

However to compare these forums to the WSJ is ridiculous. To me pretty much everything about SL is ridiculous :-) (One reason I like it so much.) But this is where I get most of my business news and information, plus hear a lot of discussion about how things work, etc. I guarantee that most merchants in SL have never heard of Brooke Linden or the new maturity ratings.

  10. Yes, it was suggested to Brooke that announcements through that group would be a good idea. And yes, I agree that not a lot of info comes from the group if you read the forum. Rather, info from the forum gets passed to the inworld group. It seems to me that ppl who are best informed, and wish to stay well informed, read the forum regularly.

Well it does give hope, especially the part that mature is not treated the same as adult anymore. I still have my doubt about the word filter, I think it will remain a pain in you know what. For every new listing you create you will have to save the unfinished listing after every sentence to check if there isn't any word triggering the filter. Writing down a 5k description and then saving it, finding out that there is a faulty word, having to check all words, re-save the listing a zillion times trying to find the word before it is actually rated as G will result in whole bunch of swearing behind the PC. I am glad that there is a jira now and a open communication. We will see what happens this week. I imagine before long a list will pop up somewhere, though not here. I have already seen a link to a list in another forum somewhere. LL wants to keep the list secret, but I don't see the point. What is the point of "gaming" maturity if a handful of teens are the only ones who cannot see Adult stuff, and the pref is persistant for everyone else? There is no point because the only advantage of being G (or M) is that is seen more often because ppl do not bother to check the Adult box each time.

You know, those of us who are here on a daily basis appreciate the vastly greater level of communication that Brooke is attempting. Those who drop in once in a while may not be so aware of the dramatic change.

  14. Cummere Mayo wrote: one more thing. why was this posted to the forums instead of the blogs where you know... people would have seen it? This is a blog, btw. Brooke asked for feedback on how to best communicate with merchants. Not many said "The Blog". Did you?
  15. If you read the chat transcript, this is what Brooke is planning to do.
  16. I am just curious how they are to determine ratings without using keyword filters at all.
  17. Just a guess but the inworld group seems to be larger -- we forum groupies seem to be a subset.
  18. Madeliefste Oh wrote: And that is why I ask, for the next big change 'delivery from inventories in stead of magic boxes', can we start talking about this soon? Tell us what you have in mind, on how this shall be done. Let us react and tell what possible problems we see from our point of view. There are all kind of tools you can use to get feedback from us, discussions on the forum, but also polls or surveys. But do it before your team has made up their mind on how it must be done codewise. Use our knowledge and experience to make it in the end work better for all parties. My hope and prayer is that this will be thoroughly beta tested before forced implementation -- unlike nearly everything else about the SLM, in which we saw Xstreet closed down when SLM was barely out of alpha (if it was at all). We don't mind change, esp one like this that promises the elimination of delivery failures -- but let's be clear: Xstreet had plenty of delivery problems, but nothing like SLM has had. Forget scrum -- the elimination of Magic Boxes is only ready when it is working perfectly.
  19. I think it's great, and will attract a more mature, mainstream market. From my point of view as a merchant, I see a lot of couples in love. HBO watchers with an interest in romance are who LL needs to be attracting, more than the demographic LL has been trying to attract.
  20. Brooke Linden wrote: Hi all, Well, it wasn’t perfect, but it could have been much worse. Let’s focus on what we have now and how we can improve next time. On the Linden side, here is what we’re doing: Currently working on a bug fix that incorrectly flags some items as moderate and adult. We plan to release this fix on Tuesday. Reading through the forum posts and filtering out comments that appear to be issues. Reviewing the decisions, processes, testing, etc. done prior to the roll out to identify actionable changes that can be made going forward. Monitoring gross market value for the Marketplace as a whole and the listings that were migrated to determine if we are seeing a change in behavior. At this point we do not have enough data to make an assessment and will review on Monday. Reviewing listings that you all have sent to us and modifying our filtering to fix any issues. Working on getting phase 2 rolled out (advanced search options) to make it easier to find listings marked as moderate and adult. On the Merchant side, here is what you can to do help us help you: Keep going through your listings. There are no additional planned changes to the Listing Guidelines. Note that the logic is checked on save, in addition to during a weekly process, so just editing the listing will only help once we have updated our ratings logic. Which leads to the next bullet... If you have a listing that is getting incorrectly flagged, add the URL to PJIRA WEB-3583. This PJIRA will be looked at on Monday, and a new one will be created for the next set of listings that need to be reviewed. Please do not post keyword lists on Second Life forums. We will have to remove those posts. Keep providing feedback. I’ll be reviewing and think that it makes sense to take a portion of the next office hour to discuss. For those who didn’t receive the email, please make sure you check your spam folders. I did a quick check and your names were on the list we submitted to send. Okay, I’m off to review some filters to see if we can’t get some cleanup done before the weekend. Brooke PS--There was a miscommunication earlier on where this blog post should live, and it was moved into the private forum. Once I realized the mistake, I had it pulled back into the public forum. Okay, this did not go so smoothly but did anyone really expect it would? No. What is important to me is that we have this communication.* That is huge. In the past the problem would not have even been acknowledged at all, and certainly no one would have told us what corrective measures were being taken. I for one am deeply grateful to be kept in the loop. Plus we all know probably the last thing the Commerce Team wanted to do was this -- this is part of an overall LL policy. Brooke, if by chance we seem to have gone overboard a bit: as others have pointed out, you can't imagine the hours we have spent redoing and repairing the results of migration. We are just shell-shocked. PS Just wait until the Magic Boxes are eliminated. * And folks, we have a pro doing the communicating here. None of this blaming merchants for being lazy / stupid (eg "I am not a mind reader!) like we have heard before -- when we heard anything at all.
  21. I had a new Adult item -- a birdbath, with little singing birds that cock their heads and raise up their tails.
  22. You know, I think I am psychic. Somehow I just had a premonition that this change would turn out exactly like this!
  23. Jack deserves credit for behaving professionally during Office Hours -- actually, for even having OH. I have seen other Lindens who, on the rare occasions they interfaced with residents at all, could not resist expressing their contempt. Jack not only made himself available but did so like a pro.
  24. Exactly -- noobified! I was very anxious about losing my Xstreet ranking -- for prefabs, for example, 7 houses on the first two pages of search. I was assured that sales data & reviews would be preserved. They were not. My houses (and those of other top ranked builders) wound up on p. 175 for a while! Now I have had a few climb in rank again. Sales are good. I HOPE that this migration will be tested to make sure that we are not all noobified yet again.
  25. I need to be clear on this point: Will leaving the migration option open mean that all my sales data and reviews on SLM be overwritten? Or will the data on SLM and Xstreet be merged?
