I'm sure I do and at the same time see that there are veteran posters who are in denial about how it applies to themselves.
Anything from the constant sneering laugh from one to:
: to antagonize (others) online by deliberately posting inflammatory, irrelevant, or offensive comments or other disruptive content
: to harass, criticize, or antagonize (someone) especially by provocatively disparaging or mocking public statements, postings, or acts
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/troll
Right. And only one person in this thread is trolling. For attention. No more of which will come from me.

No guns blazing there. Simple question, the rest is the fevered imaginations of trolls trying to make something out of it.
I don’t think you know what the word troll means.

/me thinks there is some defensiveness going on to justify the trolling of new posters.
And yet despite all the times I have been a new poster somewhere, I don’t recall being trolled for it. Mostly I get ignored until I say something to engage with other than insulting regulars.
And in order to say something worth engagement, first I listen. I don’t come in with guns blazing.

This stuff bugs me too, but the point is that language isn't, and never has been, about "rules." It's about communication. And there will come a time doubtless when someone who literally means "literally" when they say "literally" is the one who is misusing the language, because they are miscommunicating their meaning.
Not soon I hope.
But yes, I used to be bewildered reading 18th c. literature when some devout character would proclaim that God was awful.

Yes I love it. Especially the graph. TY.
This reminds me of when I would do a little demonstration for students, holding a pencil in one hand and no pencil in the other hand and telling them that in one hand I have a pencil and the other hand I have no pencil, so in one hand I do not have a pencil and in the other hand I do not have no pencil. Whereupon some looked a little stunned.
And from that point on when someone said they didn’t have no paper, a chorus of smart alecks congratulated him.
And I confess that I am a fan of David Mitchell from Peep Show.

So many people were using it incorrectly that they added a new definition of literally meaning literally the opposite of literally
Like when people say they could care less.
Or use double negatives.
They go around unknowingly saying the opposite of what they mean.

Well, I mean, the definition of "literally" has changed to also mean figuratively...
News to me.
More likely that people just don’t know the correct definition.

But new comers here often get told off as trolls, or harshly snarked at that they should use the search function
Maybe because the first words out of their mouths are blanket insults — and they should use search instead of expecting others to do it for them?
It gets old.

What do you mean? I only started last week pretty much and have been accused of being a troll, a lier etc. I'm on a couple of other social media platforms and it was the first time to have shade thrown at me haha. Other than that one time on Facebook when an American called me obnoxious for calling an aubergine, an aubergine 🍆. Apparently they're called egg plants in America haha 😄 Anyway, everyone seems fine, some awesome, some self righteous, you know....the usual 😜
Well when I say almost everyone is nice I mean mostly regulars.
For some reason the new posters who are not nice seem not to stick around long.

Actually, I'm starting to think we should use the 🌽 emoji instead, but perhaps that's because I'm American, so the shape is more evocative to me of the object it's meant to represent. 😉
Or maybe 🍄

The only reason any shade was thrown your way was for the reasons mentioned. We had just had a rather contentious thread on the exact same subject locked 2 days prior to yours. The OP of.that post is notorious for starting inane threads that he uses to throw his own shade and disrespect at pretty much everyone who replies.
My apologizes if my posts were taken as shade.
And welcome to the forums.
See what I mean? Nice.

I saw that news yesterday but I've played my daily game today and can't see what's been changed. It still looks exactly the same as it always did. I even turned adblock off to see if they'd snuck some ads in, but they haven't

Peeved that we are hunkered down again in Texas waiting for another snopocalypse to freeze us in our homes, since nothing has been done to fix the power grid since last year. 😤

I am resolved to not get Covid, and so far I have not.
I am always as vaccinated and N95 masked as possible because I don’t want to risk getting Long Covid.

When I joined in 2007 the SL forum was horrific, so I joined the somewhat less horrific XStreet forum. When that was shut down I posted only in the Merchant sub forum here for a couple of years. (I have since posted off and on here and SLU / VVO.)

Melatonin-gummies, or something else?
Melatonin does nothing for me.
I take Delta 8 THC or CBD gummies or a combo. Legal in Texas now.
So far I am holding the fort w ashwaganda, only had to do gabapentin twice. I really don’t like taking anything physically addictive tho.

When my daughter was two and up to no good / in possession of contraband she would hide behind a chair and as a precaution warn “Don’t look behind this chair Mommy!”
Darned if I didn’t look behind the chair every time.
