  1. Perfectly OK. It's not RL - it's SL. The mess is easy to clean, and there ARE ways to keep people out if they want to. But, if you get yelled at, it would behoove you to say "sorry - I'll leave now" and be polite.
  2. Your premise is based on the idea that people have only commercial interests in buying private estates. Some, maybe even most, may, but not all. Some of us find $300/mo an acceptable price for a hobby, and at most use renting land as a way to use up prims we were not using anyway or to help out friends. Lots of people hopped into the sim-owning business thinking it was an easy ROI. Guess what? They were wrong. They also got into the act late, which meant they got into it when the market was already past the "easy money" phase, as they got into an already over-saturated marketplace. Also, this idea that Linden homes are driving landlords out of business is laughable. At best, these are "starter homes" for newbs or "sharecropper" plots for those who would never rent your private estate land anyway. Also, seems to me this ONLY comes with premium membership and that means, gasp, they would have already had the same exact prim allowance FREE - just have to find a tiny little mainland parcel and then, voila, no rent for their little spot. I'd love tiers to go down, but that's just my purely selfish wish for lower cost and an ability to afford an extra sim. LL as a business has made the calculation that the current structure is best for them. If you want them to change it, you need to show them an alternative that is better for LL, not for you personally.
  3. /me adopts his best <edited for name of evil person lest it be deemed harassing> voice: "You vill have NO FUN! This is a SERIOUS place for all of ze people! NO FUN! Anyone having fun vill be rounded up und SHOT! Vy can you not STICK TO THE TOPICS! Ze Lindens have provided you with this Forum to talk about SECOND LIFE, and Second Life ONLY! There is NO FUN in ze Second life! Anyone having fun here VILL BE SHOT! Or, I suppose, stuck in a closet with Pep for an hour with ze option of taking ze cyanide pill. Now, all of you, GET BACK TO VORK! For the glory of the LINDENLAND!" Tolya (apologizes if his faux-German accent comes through poorly)
  4. Kids? What kids? Ain't seen a one, unless they are coming on as age verified adults...
  5. Marcus Hancroft wrote: Nathaniel Scorpio wrote: Throw me in the threaded view camp. So far, the options appear to be reading older to newer or newer to older, but all in flat view. Threaded view gives you the actual flow of conversation and makes it easier to follow a string. I'd also argue that flat view leads to more argumentative threads, because people don't have the option of avoiding an argument all together like they can in threaded view. I would prefer a threaded view as well for exactly the same reasons Nathaniel states above. Also, even though I checked "Jump To First Unread Post" in Linear Layout Settings, it always takes me to the very first post in the topic. Page 1, post 1. Ugh. Ah, but you see by not having a threaded view it makes it harder for a real conversation to develop, thus keeping us on the very narrow path LL wants us on. I suspect inhibiting true dialog is precisely the point.
  6. I was expecting some giant improvement. I feel like I got a giant "what was the point again?"
  7. It's my old one. But I finally noticed the "My Settings" at the top. Duh.
  8. Charlie Sheen is my role model. I wanted to put that in a sig line here, but apparently there are no sigs? How the heck do I change my sig?
  9. tl:dr But only because I see from her first response that the OP has an inflated sense of self-importance and felt the need to prattle on in a redundant fashion to the very first poster who, despite the fact that the OP felt the need to be a smart ass twice in response, actually DID give the OP exactly what she requested. Anything such a person would write is clearly tl and not worth reading. Feel free to use the Firefox feature to ignore me in future threads. If you need help finding it, it has been posted on dozens of occasions in this Forum and can easily be found by using the "Search" feature in the upper right hand corner of your screen.
  10. 1.23 - is still just fine and would be nice if it stayed that way.
  11. This just in from the WSJ, EA buys LL in 2012... Welcome to the snake pit, Rod. The more you leave alone, and the more improve without actually "changing," the happier most of your current customers will be. Oh, and take a look at the property tax bill for your RL home and ask yourself if you'd own more or less if the annual tax rate were 360% of the original purchase price. Then review SL land tiers and ask yourself the same question.
  12. In Preferences on your menu, the section on communications, have IM's sent to email. Need to include your email address of course. Then, on each group you want emails from, make sure you have "receive notices" checked on the main tab for the group. All set.
  13. I get profile quoted a lot for some reason. I don't mind at all - inflates my already bloated ego
  14. /me smiles big A compliment from Irene is like a gorgeous spring day in December. Tolya (has been awake 15 minutes now, so if that makes little sense, it's the lack of coffee)
  15. I have an entire library of notecard givers that anyone can use. Basically, just one prim with a script I bought somewhere (a menu driven notecard giver, cost like 500L, no transfer) Can even set the security so only people I choose are able to access. Holds essentially infinite notecards. Landmarks? Stick them on a notecard and problem solved. Can even group the landmarks onto different notecards for nice organization, although I do believe it will give an LM instead of a notecard.
  16. Well, they do not consider it fraud when a merchant has a sign that says "5,000L for 200 Michelangelo Paintings" and when you click and pay 5,000L all you get is the sign, so I doubt they will consider this fraud, either.
  17. Ari, I was looking for your shop the other day and couldn't find it. Did you move?
  18. As I'm sure you've heard more than you'd like, there's not a whole lot you can do accept pick out a more reliable landlord in the future. I don't have anything that goes for 6 weeks for 5,000L, but I AM very reliable if you're looking.
  19. I'll vote for that. But then again, I do agree, people should pay attention. It may not be obvious, but then again, it ain't a secret, either.
  20. Wait till December. A lot of people will likely want to sell their homesteads when they lose the grandfathered status on their tiers.
