  1. Hi there! Welcome to SL... I think some of the best places to research skins, shapes, hair and fashion are on the blogs. Most people who post will list where they got their skins, shapes, hair, poses as well as the clothing. Here are a few links to get you started: http://fashionfeedofsl.com/ http://metavirtual.us// If you don't want to spend a lot of money to start check out these blogs devoted to SL freebies: http://slfreestyle.blogspot.com/ http://fabfree.wordpress.com/ Enjoy!
  2. I am having trouble purchasing is there some place in world to buy them? Fixed that problem, I have family in Japan, so far everyone is oki TG. My heart goes out to everyone still waiting to hear from loved ones. etd picture and apologies to Bear for piercing him...
  3. I took both surveys but they are both a bit awkward. For example the first question doesn't specify whether you are asking for gender in rl or sl. The age question - I am really curious as to why you lumped everyone over 30 into one category (same thing with how long you have been in SL - given that SL has been around at least 8 years it seems odd to lump anyone over two years old into one category). On the communication methods question it was unclear to me whether "facial expressions" and "body language" referred to emoting or the use of sl gestures or was occuring during the use of a webcam. Your second survey didn't differentiate between using the services listed as a sl avatar or a rl person. For instance I use sl as an avatar but my facebook is rl only, my sl avatar doesn't have a fb account. Are FB and Twitter really "virtual worlds"? More like a social network I think. just my $.02
  4. First, have you checked your transaction history on secondlife.com to make sure the transaction went through? (Go to www.secondlife.com and log in then at your dashboard on the upper right go to Account>transaction history and make sure the dates include the date you purchased the shoes). If the transaction is listed there then either write the information down or copy and paste it to a notecard in second life. Write a polite note to the creator that the item is missing from your inventory, include all the transaction information and your avatar name, save the notecard as "missing "name of item" in inventory". Then send the notecard to the creator and hope for the best. Most reliable creators will re-send the item especially if it was non-transfer (transferrable items are a little trickier because they may worry that you have re-sold the item). If the transaction is not listed there then something went wrong when you tried to buy the shoes and you should just re-purchase them.
  5. Unless it's a laptop built for gaming you are going to have trouble running any of the graphic viewers on a laptop. I use a text only viewer on my laptop and it works great. Here's a link to the one I use (there used to be a page in the KB about thrid party viewers but I am unable to find it. You could also try using a "legacy" viewer (Cool Viewer used to have one). http://radegast.org/wp/
  6. I got word this morning that my relatives in Japan are ok but with the power outages, continuing aftershocks, etc communication is very difficult. I hope your friends are ok. Hopefully you will hear something soon. My best wishes go out to everyone in Japan and those with family and friends there.
  7. It sounds like you should contact support for their help or follow the steps outlined here to reclaim group land? http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Group-owned-land/ta-p/700079#Reclaiming_group_land or maybe this article will be more helpful? http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Group-owned-land/ta-p/700079#Managing_objects_on_group-owned_land
  8. It might have ended up in an outfit folder. Have you tried searching for it by name or vendor name? Have you tried logging out, clearing your cache and then re-logging? Is your inventory fully loading?
  9. This is my favorite and it was a gift! I have a new one, if I have time to hop on the grid I will post another pic.
  10. I was watching the "Today" show one morning in 2007 and the host was interviewing Phillip - they did part of the interview in world. It looked interesting and at the time RL work was slowing down and I found myself with too much free time. I logged in and in some ways it feels as if I never logged out...
  11. When Daria/Amethyst/Amy was posting in the old GD forums I would frequently find myself looking things up here: http://www.urbandictionary.com/ :smileywink:
  12. There are so many options in so many price ranges! You can spend very little if you know where to shop (or join some hunts). Skin is likey to be the most expensive purchase check out these blogs for free options and ideas: http://fabfree.wordpress.com/ or http://slfreestyle.blogspot.com/ or if you want to spend more money take a look at the fashion feed for sources and places to go: http://www.fashionfeedofsl.com/ Good Luck!
  13. Check out Sarah Nerd's Freebie Paradise in world (search for Sarah Nerd's profile and there is a landmark in her picks). You can find freebies on the SL Marketplace (click the "shopping" button above). Also you could join some hunts or check out the many blogs devoted to free stuff. It doesn't all have to be low quality! http://slfreebiehunters.blogspot.com/ especially for men: http://ffform.blogspot.com/ http://fabfree.wordpress.com/
  14. I think that because skin designers are advancing so fast that skins more than a year or two old look a bit dated. Usually around my rez day I start to think about refreshing my look. This year I went for a whole new skin and tweaked my shape a bit - and bought new hair! Here I am.... (drum roll) Jessika version 2011:
  15. I took it too - its probably the best of the surveys I have taken in that you obviously are familiar with the SL culture and it shows. A category for fantasy avatars would have been handy (fairies, mermaids and the like).

Just checking, although I think it's safe to assume you're only looking for people who can easily commute to Johannesburg, right? Funnily enough though, they didn't know you when I tried that number. (Or is this a reality show that doesn't know how big the world is? - sorry, cheap shot, couldn't resist) Ummm? 323 is an area code in Los Angeles, CA (USA)
  17. The sweater/bra combo could be from Nylon Outfitters try poking around the Tableau sim where the store is, there are some other shops there too that might have similar things as well. Or ask in the comments for the photo. Edit to Add: I think the bra is from Blowpop - not sure about the cardigan. See here another picture of the bra: http://www.flickr.com/photos/laurarosegossipgirl/3729817751/in/pool-nylon_outfitters#/photos/laurarosegossipgirl/3729817751/in/pool-1215570@N21/
  18. Ishtara wrote: I'd also like to see a contact list in addition to my short and manageable friends list that I try to keep around ten names or less. Unlike friends, contacts shouldn't be notified when I come online, which is my main concern. I totally agree that there should be a way to "categorize" friends lists and give different permissions to different categories.
  19. Just yesterday I had a friend request come out of the blue from a brand new resident (I was hair shopping). I sent him back an IM saying it was innappropriate to friend someone without starting a conversation first. He then proceeded to ask me where I was from in rl and what my age was (lolz). So I tried to explain that those aren't the greatest conversation starters in SL. I did end up friending him but it likely won't last (he was pretty young and he's from an Eastern Block country so our time zones likely won't be conducive to "hanging out"). I like to be friendly and helpful to noobs but I don't go out of my way like Storm and Venus. I will de-friend eventually but I don't regularly clean out my list.
  20. Moth by Alpha Tribe (I just love their creations!) and "wild woman" hair from Mia Snow:
  21. If you are going to wear them watch this tutorial - changing your shape to make the skirt look its best doesn't have to be a pain in the a$$....
  22. Yay! I did it (finally). Thanks for the help Suella!
