  1. Second Life Server:

    https://releasenotes.secondlife.com/simulator/2020-05-15T18%3A31%3A37.542403.html

    Scheduled Tuesday 2020-05-26 03:00-09:00 PDT

    Second Life RC:

    https://releasenotes.secondlife.com/simulator/2020-05-22T18%3A10%3A49.542737.html

    Scheduled Wednesday 2020-05-27 07:00-10:30 PDT

    On Region Restarts:
Regions will be restarted if they have been running for more than 10 days on Tuesday (Main Channel) and Wednesday (RCs) regardless of whether or not new code is being deployed, for the general health and well being of the Simulators. Nothing beats turning it off and then on again ... once in a while.

As always please plan events around these maintenance windows. However, if you are hosting an event on Tuesday or Wednesday when we're not deploying new code, you can restart your region ahead of time to avoid interruptions.

We were on 541970, and we rolled this morning to 542391, which does not have the time/date fix 🙂

All the RC channel regions I visit are on 542391 now.  Still looking for an RC public region on 542403, so I can at least sent an alt there to check group notices.

Seems they put the time/date fix on the fewest number of RC regions.  Would be nice if they would reveal RC channel names too, but I guess they change these so often now they would get those wrong.

About 10% of the grid is on the 542403 RC right now; if you'd like to try the fix, these are a few example mainland regions on that version:

    • Davis Gulf
    •  Portage Bay
    •  Falmouth
    •  Chishonganiro
    •  Bay City - Rollers
    •  Bouraq
    •  Sandbox Island
    •  Shamwari
    •  Hiltrude
    •  West Haven

The current version of the notes at https://releasenotes.secondlife.com/simulator/2020-05-15T18%3A31%3A37.542403.html picked up this BUG jira instead, which is a dupe of BUG-228696:

    • BUG-228743 Group notices get timestamped with the current time

Let's see if I can nudge the notes-generating script to pick up 228696 instead...

Since as stated on the Grid Status Page LL are "implementing a fix" for the Timestamp error they introduced to Main Server on Tuesday, I wonder if one of their customer-facing staff would care to enlighten us as to WHAT is being fixed and WHEN we might see the results of this much-needed work.

    Pretty Please.

    Please see today's new threadhttps://community.secondlife.com/forums/topic/454888-deploy-plans-for-the-week-of-2020-05-18/

We have a fix scheduled in one of the RCs rolling out on Wednesday.  If you would like try the fix early, the build is currently deployed to several  regions on the beta grid, including 'Ahern'.

I do wonder, though, if 541440 has a fix for * SL-12600 One of the previous usernames (first and last name) is used and displayed in the viewer Top Scripts and Colliders * or not, it was in 540369 release notes, but it's not in 541440 ones.

Yes, SL-12600 should be fixed in this update.  That issue became referenced in the notes via BUG-228565, which SL-12600 is linked to.

So can I do anything? Is that a problem with the update? Will it be rolled back? I run a game on this sim and some objects connect via HTTP to a webserver. But they seem to work fine. Also the pathfinding characters in the game work fine.

Hi Stephan, support just fixed this issue.  If you reconnect to 'Shopping', things should be back to normal with your viewer.  If there are scripts using HTTP-In on your region, you may want to ask an estate manager to restart the sim.

In general, I'd recommend filing an issue like this at https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/

  12. Second Life Server (main channel)

No deploys are scheduled for the main channel this week.

    Second Life RC BlueSteel:

BlueSteel is getting a new server maintenance project, which includes some minor improvements.

    Second Life RC Magnum:

Magnum is moving onto the same project as BlueSteel and LeTigre.

    Dagger (and everyone else)

I have it on good authority (no names, no pack drill) that it was indeed a CDN-related tantrum in one server cluster that most folk (but crucially not all) were experiencing.  Now that bottleneck seems to have (been) cleared and CDN is running as expected Grid-Wide.

It'd be nice if some explanation of what was going on was made public but the tech side of LL are notoriously shy of explaning things (even assuming that they know what was happening), so I guess we all should just thank the dieties that it is now fixed.

    :smileywink:

The symptoms (failed region connects, high ping times) don't seem to match up with the CDN at all.  All the CDN is providing at this point is meshes, textures, and map tiles.  If the CDN were totally offline, the worst you should see is a world of grey with no meshes loading, assuming your viewer hadn't previously cached the assets in that area.  Given that the issue seemed to be UK-specific (at least from the comments in this thread), I suspect there was regional network issue, somewhere on the path between the UK to Phoenix (where sims are currently hosted).

I am seeing some anomalous behaviour at the moment on Main Server sims.  In one case the prims on a region appeared long before the terrain, but the more general issue is sudden and massive increases in sim ping with pings of up to 20 seconds for about 15-20 seconds.  This occurred on three separate Main Server sims and was absent on two LeTigre RC sims I visited.

I thought in might be local but I have seen no glitching in my local net parameters.

TP between Main Server sims also seemed very slow yet to LeTigre and between LeTigre sims it appeared normal.

    Any reports of server-comms issues?

No, I haven't heard any reports of anything like that (or seen it firsthand, on the main channel today).  The main channel is running the same exact builds as the RCs, since the RCs haven't been rolled yet, and there's no difference between the channels in terms of network location.  Could it be that certain mainland regions are performing poorly?

  15. Second Life Server (main channel)

The main channel is getting the CDN texture and mesh fetch project, which was on all RC channels last week. This project changes how in-world textures and meshes are fetched by the viewer.
