Me and friends have huge issus since 1 week, we freeze, crash, can´t rezz objects etc. Is really annoying. Nowhere to read about if this is normal during this server rollings. Please give some information, more understandable for SL Users. Thanks, would be very nice )) Hi L0RAINE, depending on which server channel you're in ('About Second Life' shows this), you might be seeing the networking issues that some have reported on Magnum. The comments here explain the issue (as we know it) and give details about a potentially fixed version of the server: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Server/Deploys-for-the-week-of-2013-01-21/m-p/1856701#M9120

Could you file a Jira and attach your Secondlife.log file from a session in Aditi/Morris? This page describes where the the viewer log can be found: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-report-a-bug/ta-p/733545#Section_.3

I had to find Morris on the Search function. I'm in Firestorm. There was no problem teleporting to Morris' fixed point (no rezzing underground and being unable to move), but I had to walk to the coordinates you gave. There is nothing much here to test. I showed up without my shoes--but I was able to change my outfit several times successfully. My HUDs are in place at least, and they work. There is some lag over at Bonifacio where there shouldn't be. kbps goes up into the red. What else am I to expect here, and what do you want me to observe with respect to the Magnum Bug outlined in my issue BUG-1460? I am still having problems on my island in Aditi. rezzing under the water, unable to move immediately. HUDs don't operate correctly. Unable to see all of my complex structures.... like my skybox house. But on Morris I could at least open my emote HUD and it was all there. Hi Hypatia, if 'About Second Life' (or the equivalent in your viewer) shows 'DRTSIM-197 13.01.28.269574', then you're testing in the right place. The things to test are that the objects in the region (walkways, walls, etc) appear, and that you can see the other avatars on the minimap in-world too (currently Aditi's Morris has 9 visitors). Also, the bug had some other obvious symptoms such as being stuck at (0,0,0) and being unable to move. Having no shoes on Aditi when you did have them on Agni is not all surprising, since your inventory state on Aditi can be totally different from agni. I wouldn't worry about the SimFPS in Bonifacio at this point; that sim is on a totaly different server version. If this bug seems to be fixed, the plan is to roll 13.01.28.269574 to Magnum on Wednesday, per http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Server/Deploys-for-the-week-of-2013-01-28/td-p/1856657
  4. WolfBaginski Bearsfoot wrote: Foolishlu, perhaps, I am assuming that with threaded region-crossing in the Main Channel, the code is also in all the RC versions. Yes or no? Hi WolfBaginski, that's correct - as a rule, the RC versions also include all the changes from the same week's main channel version.
  5. As Andrew just posted, we have a potential fix for this problem on Aditi (the Beta grid), with version DRTSIM-197 13.01.28.269574. Morris on Aditi are running this new code. We're having trouble triggering the network issues in-house, so we could use some feedback about whether the problem is really fixed. If you are affected by this bug, on RC Magnum, could you please login to Aditi and visit Morris to verify that the problems are fixed for you there? Here is a SLURL for that location: secondlife://Aditi/secondlife/Morris/20/116/51
  6. All four channels will be rolled, this week.  We have one new project in RC, and two previously RC'ed projects which are returning with bug fixes.   Second Life Server (main channel) The main channel is getting the region crossing performance project which was on BlueSteel and LeTigre last week.  This project makes sim performance smoother when objects and avatars cross between regions.  https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Server/13#13.01.14.269010  Scheduled Tuesday 2013-01-29 07:00-11:00 PST   Second Life RC BlueSteel: BlueSteel is getting a new project, which adds server support for normal and specular maps.  This blog posthas more information about the project.  The next step is to release a project viewer, which will allow users to try out this new functionality. https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_BlueSteel/13#13.01.26.269542 Scheduled Wednesday 2013-01-30 07:00-11:00 PST   Second Life RC LeTigre: LeTigre is getting the maint-server project that was on Magnum 2 weeks ago.  The main change for this version is a bug fix for a places search issue which popped up in the previous RC iteration. https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_LeTigre/13#13.01.25.269523 Scheduled Wednesday 2013-01-30 07:00-11:00 PST   Second Life RC Magnum: Magnum is getting the interest list improvement project.  This projectshould reduce the bandwidth usage of viewers due to object updates, and should improve simulator performance, especially in sims with many connected avatars.  This week's update addresses an issue where some users experienced high packet loss, leading to issues such as not seeing avatars or objects inworld. https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_Magnum/13#13.01.28.269574 Scheduled Wednesday 2013-01-30 07:00-11:00 PST   We will be monitoring this thread as the code gets released, so feel free to note any observations you have about the server updates.  If you have a specific bug you'd like to report, please file a Jira.
  7. Ardy, Triple, NogarDrevlis: thanks for the reports. We are investigating these issues on Magnum. At a glance, the issues do seem like they could be triggered by bugs in the interest list changes.
  8. Two previously-RCed projects are coming back this week, with bug fixes.    Second Life Server (main channel) Since there was a problem with last week's RC projects (BS and LT had a crasher and Magnum had an issue with parcel search), there is no update for the main channel this week.   Second Life RC BlueSteel and Second Life RC LeTigre: BlueSteel and LeTigre are getting the region crossing improvement project.  This project makes sim performance smoother when objects and avatars cross between regions.  This is the same project which was on BS and LT 2 weeks ago; the only change is a fix for a crasher. https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_BlueSteel/13#13.01.14.269010 https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_LeTigre/13#13.01.14.269010 Scheduled Wednesday 2013-01-23 07:00-11:00 PST   Second Life RC Magnum: Magnum is getting the interest list improvement project.  This update should reduce the bandwidth usage of viewers due to object updates, and should improve simulator performance, especially in sims with many connected avatars.  This is the same project which was on BS and LT last week, briefly; the only change is a fix for two crash modes. https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_Magnum/13#13.01.17.269162   Scheduled Wednesday 2013-01-23 07:00-11:00 PST   We will be monitoring this thread as the code gets released, so feel free to note any observations you have about the server updates.  If you have a specific bug you'd like to report, please file a Jira.
  9. The fix for the places search bug for Magnum regions will be out tomorrow.
  10. Thanks for the details, Ayesha. We will take a look at that tent (maybe a pair of tents side-by-side in different regions) and watch its reaction to the wind. Theresa, I also see the search issue for Magnum regions (in the main search floater - world map search works fine). If I search for a Magnum region like 'Calleta', there's no direct search result for the region (the results are for nearby shops, groups, and so on). I've filed a bug report about this issue.
  11. Hi Ayesha, the wind thing is something that could be affected by the changes in BlueSteel and LeTigre. I'm running a test now with samples the wind speed with llWind() to see if the wind became stronger, overall. The double-avatar and bandwidth spikes are definitely issues that we're interested in too, if you do manage to find a case to reproduce it.
  12. Astarte Artaud wrote: Seems we are a little behind on the release notes.... My current Blue Steel server is 13.01.14.269041 which I don't see anywhere ?? Sorry - my mistake. The release notes for BlueSteel and LeTigre were for a slightly older version number (the newer version includes a last-minute bug fix). The correct version for those channels is 13.01.14.269041. I've updated the notes just now.
  13. Due to a network hardware issue this morning, all 3 RC rolls have been postponed to tomorrow, Thursday 2013-01-17 07:00-11:00 PST.

  15. Happy Old New Year.  We have two new projects for RC this week.   Second Life Server (main channel) Since there was a problem with last week's RC project, there is no update for the main channel this week.   Second Life RC BlueSteel and Second Life RC LeTigre: BlueSteel and LeTigre are getting the interest list improvement project which was originally scheduled for Magnum last week, but was held up due to a last minute bug found in beta.  This update should reduce the bandwidth usage of viewers due to object updates, and should improve simulator performance, especially in sims with many connected avatars. Scheduled Wednesday 2013-01-16 07:00-11:00 PST Thursday 2013-01-17 07:00-11:00 PST https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_BlueSteel/13#13.01.14.269041 https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_LeTigre/13#13.01.14.269041   UPDATE @ 2013-01-18 9:47AM PST: Due to stability issues on LeTigre and BlueSteel, a rollback is scheduled for 10AM this morning.  Both channels will be rolled back to 12.12.18.268345 (the same version as the 'Second Life Server' channel)   Second Life RC Magnum: Magnum is getting a new server maintenance project, which mostly contains bug fixes. https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_Magnum/13#13.01.11.268951 Scheduled Wednesday 2013-01-16 07:00-11:00 PST Thursday 2013-01-17 07:00-11:00 PST    We will be monitoring this thread as the code gets released, so feel free to note any observations you have about the server updates.  If you have a specific bug you'd like to report, please file a Jira.
  16. Ah, I see what you mean, Dora. When I leave your parcel and cross the region border to the south, some of the objects in your parcel 'disappear'. Usually just disappear temporarily, but the set of objects which disappear and the duration of the disappearance varies a bit with each crossing. When I crank up my draw distance to 256m, I see the problem - when the objects are 'missing', they are appearing in the wrong region. For example, an object at 'Nautilus - Suniaton/25/8/23' is being rendered at the same coordinates in 'Nautilus - Sidobrim' when I cross into the latter region. It's a little hard to see your objects since they're somewhat small, but if you make an object such as a 64m tall red 'pole', you can see it clearly in the horizon when it disappears from your parcel. I'm fairly certain this is MAINT-1341 (internal Jira), which is a viewer bug against the 3.4.1 development viewer (the issue does not appear in your sim when using the 'Second Life 3.3.4 (262321)' viewer).
  17. Ayesha Askham wrote: Dora I have seen the phenomenon that you refer to several times, and not confined to LeTigre and the last roll either. Sometimes a sim shows you its contents, then suddenly it all vanishes, only to return some moments later. It doesn't seem to matter if the sims are contiguous or diagonally linked. It is a most disconcerting occurence when the sim you have just or its objects briefly vanishes only to reappear a few seconds later!:smileysurprised: Ah, it sounds like you're referring to BUG-141 "50 seconds after a region crossing, the previous region disappears.". A fix for that bug is in the upcoming interest list update project.
  18. Ayesha Askham wrote: Maestro Could you give the duty op in the Grid Status Page a boot please, the last two entries were never "resolved" or completed". Unless the RC roll is still going on, of course! :smileytongue: Good point, Ayesha. The rolls are definitely finished, and I imagine the live chat maintenance is too. I've notified the status page maintainer about that. Regarding the region crossing performance on the RCs, it should be the same as what you see on the main channel at this point, since we disabled the new code via live config update yesterday afternoon, due to a sim crasher.
  19. Hi Dora, I visited http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Nautilus%20-%20Suniaton/31/8/31 , and can see the nearby objects in the neighboring regions:
  20. Hi Rel, see the grid status page; yesterday's network issue was resolved yesterday at 5pm PST: http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2013/01/08/post1856/
  21. There are currently some networking issues, unrelated to the rolls today. See http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2013/01/08/post1856/ for details.
  22. Marianne McCann wrote: Hey Maestro! Happy New Year! I am seeing some performance hits on Livingtree (Main Channel) since today's restart. Owner is filing all the relevant tickets as we speak, but mesh is not loading, friends lists not loading, etc. Not anything I would have expected, nor that I'm seeing elsewhere. Okay, thanks for keeping us posted. I wouldn't have generally expected that either - something on the sim host may be acting up. Support tickets are probably the best route to take at this point. Happy new year to you too!
  23. We're starting off the new year with a bang, with 2 new performance-improving projects entering RC.  Here are the updates:   Second Life Server (main channel) The main channel is getting the version that was on all 3 RC channels previously.  This update includes a fix for a crash: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Server/13#12.12.18.268345 Scheduled Tuesday 2013-01-08, 05:00-11:00 PST.   Second Life RC BlueSteel and Second Life RC LeTigre: BlueSteel and LeTigre are getting a new project, which should improve simulator performance when avatars are region crossing to and from the region. Scheduled Wednesday 2013-01-09 07:00-11:00 PST https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_LeTigre/13#13.01.04.268719 https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_BlueSteel/13#13.01.04.268719    Second Life RC Magnum: Magnum is getting an update to the interest list subsystem.  This update should reduce the bandwidth usage of viewers due to object updates, and should improve simulator performance, especially in sims with many connected avatars. https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_Magnum/13#13.01.04.268722 The plans for Magnum have changed, due to a bug found in last minute testing of the interest list project.  Magnum will instead get the same region crossing project as the other two RCs: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_Magnum/13#13.01.04.268719 Scheduled Wednesday 2013-01-09 07:00-11:00 PST   UPDATE @ 2013-01-09 15:55 PST: Due to a crash mode observed in simulator version 13.01.04.268719, the new region crossing setting has been disabled on the RC channels, as of 15:20 PST.  This means that the region crossings in the RC should now behave the same as they do with the main channel.  No action is required for this configuration change to take effect.   We will be monitoring this thread as the code gets released, so feel free to note any observations you have about the server updates.  If you have a specific bug you'd like to report, please file a Jira.
  24. Hi ac14, how well does that vehicle cross between 'Second Life Server' regions, such as between 'GC Test 3' and 'GC Test 4' on Aditi? I performed a few test crossings between different server versions, and I see similar region crossing performance with the new code as the old code, using this test script: // roughly estimate how long each region crossing took, in seconds// this script isn't very precise, with a resolution of 1 second (and potentially affected by clock skew between regions)default{ state_entry() { string oldRegion = llGetRegionName(); integer sample = llGetUnixTime(); while(1) { if(oldRegion != llGetRegionName()) { integer cross_time = llGetUnixTime()-sample; llSay(0, "Crossing from " + oldRegion + " to " + llGetRegionName() + " took " + (string)cross_time + "s"); oldRegion = llGetRegionName(); } sample = llGetUnixTime(); llSleep(0.1); } }} A script in a mesh vehicle containing 306KB of scripts always took 2 seconds to cross between a pair of 'DRTSIM-184 Threaded', 'DRTSIM-184 Unthreaded', or 'Second Life Server' regions. A more bloated mesh vehicle, with 1472KB of scripts, takes 4 seconds to cross between the regions. The crossing time between 'DRTSIM-184 Unthreaded' and 'DRTSIM-184 Threaded' regions is a bit slower in both cases, but I believe this can be explained by the sim hosts being in different server colos.
  25. Hi dd, it sounds like you're referring to https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-248 ; it's a little surprising that you'd suddenly see it with yesterday's main channel update, since none of the changes are related to avatar animations. The release channel viewer was updated to 3.4.3 yesterday, so perhaps that could be the difference? In any case, it would be good to file a BUG Jira if you have steps to reproduce the 'folding'- per the last comments in VWR-248, some people have been having it intermittently for years, but nobody knows how to trigger it.
