    Gifting Updates Released Today!

@LouLouBreeze - If someone else has left a review, you can comment on that review. It's not as good as writing your own, but customers that look at the reviews will see your comments. You are right tho, the person receiving the gift should be able to leave a review.

SL Flickr Pic of the Day

    Nice pic!

    but

LL don't you think it would be better to pick pictures from our own profiles, rather that some other site that LL has no affiliation with? I see hundreds of awesome photos in my profile homepage feed every day. Flicker doesn't even have slurl links to SL, so why are we promoting Flicker?

  1. Basically, Oz, no1 trusts LL to make any decisions. Look at your past decisions. You guys need help, and we, the public, are trying to help, but LL can't see past the nasty comments. When LL screws up, we lose money, instantly. When LL implements crap they never tested and thinks they are so good there will be no bugs, we lose money, instantly. How, in any sane mind, does any1 think they are not going to have to confront some very angry people? LL has done whatever the Fluck they wanted to do for the past 6 years, which includes not fixing crucial bugs. How about if you, at least, try to tap the vast knowledge that you have access to. The customers are your largest asset, by far. We can make SL mainstream. You can not. That is how these things work. We need to all work together, not be looked down upon by LL and it's devs.

Oh, and my personal opinion is that you guys have way too many meetings. If you really need to have this many meetings, every dang day, make them casual and just use skype or inworld voice so you can actually do something rather than just talking shop. From my perspective, It seems like you only have about 20 employees, as I don't see much ever getting done, especially when I know you have over 250 employees. Something does not make sense. Are 230 employees lawyers, cause that would explain alot? Maybe, you guys are still too spread out to get alot accomplished. Heck, just looking at the user groups, I see lots of things that are not important enough to even have a user group for. I don't want to single any1 thing out tho.

Sorry, but I see these recent moves as moving away from tapping the knowledge of your user base. This seems more like isolating things, as to attempt to lessen the affects of mob anger. Whatever, I stopped ever using the jiras years ago. They are pointless when the bug fixer can just pick and choose what they feel like fixing. I do hope that the new forums will equate in better communication, and I commend all of you Lindens for staying in the conversation. I know it is not easy.

1 last thing - SL and it's dynamics are far too complex for any 1 person to have even a spec of understanding. This is why group thought is so important. 1 person trying to push a huge stone is impossible, but a group of people thinking about it can bring numerous solutions. The group/poll/vote can even make the right decisions obvious.

@Medhue The stomp pedals TOTALLY SAVED ME when doing lots of rapid filming just yesterday, I was jumping between two computers (setting up alts for animations) and having a bigger target to hit when I wanted to record/stop worked so well.

Oh, man, I could, also, probably use it to start and stop recording of motion capture. It is not easy being both the mocap model and techie at the same time. A pedal, just outside the recording area, would really make things easier.

Thanks, I've seen the bamboo, and actually bought 1 for my niece. Even though my background is really drawing and painting, I was always more into animation in SL. With mesh tho, I really need to do more work in Photoshop, so I want a good pen. Plus, I've seen alot of 3d artists use pens with 3ds Max. Heck tho, I'll even use the Stomp thing for 3ds Max, might be really handy for those shortcut keys that I use all the time.

Just imagine using the stomp thing for walking forward and back in SL. That, alone, is cool.

That's not quite right... we'll use "Watching" as a guage of interest, not of support.  That's one of the flaws in the Jira voting system that makes it hard to really use to make our choices: you can only vote for something, but not against it.

In order to understand why people are interested, we'll read the comments in the issue, and everyone watching will get them too.  It's no accident that this will put a premium on thoughtful commentary and will, we hope, provide some disincentive to just flame.

Oz, LL gets flamed because important jiras go years and years, some now half a decade, without anything ever being done to them. Now, you spent your time thinking of ways not to get flamed instead of just fixing the dang bugs. I'm sorry but this is typical LL. Heck, some people actually write the code for the fixes for you and they still never get implemented.

What we need is some kind of incentive based way to get Lindens to fix bugs. If there is not an incentive, many old bugs will just keep getting older. I've offered to pay to have bugs fixed. Really, it does not bother me to pay for something to be fixed, if that is the only way. I say, LL sets up a donating button for each jira, and every1 can pitch in a little. Eventually, the banked money on an important jira will be so high that some Linden will actually fix it to get the cash. Yeah, I know that is sucks to have to pay for something that should be taken care of automatically, but if it gets bugs fix, I'm very willing to pay for it.

  4. Very cool, Torley! I might actually get 1 of those stomp pedals. Could be very handy for combat too.

I said this before but I will say it again as I really feel this is the best way to move around. I use a Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 mouse, and I buy extras, as I tend to use very clicky programs. They run about 35 bucks. The mouse has 5 buttons, and I connect 1 extra button to the Forward Key, 1 button to the Backwards Key, and my middle mouse button to the Page Up key. This basically allows me to move around using my mouse and only use the keyboard to chat or whatever. The software for it allows you to configure different settings for different programs. So, in 3ds Max, I have completely different settings for the mouse than I do in Poser.

What I really should get is a pen to draw with. If any1 can recommend 1, please do.

  5. Personally, I do not reguard this as a valid demo of SL. This person is a spaz and should know alot more about what he is doing than what he showed here. He looks like some1 that never used a pc before. Some of his complaints are valid, but he does nothing at all to help himself. He claims all kinds of techie knowledge, yet he never went to the preferences. Any techie in the world would go directly to some kind of setting preferences as soon as they see a problem. He, just sits there and complains. His behaviour is something I would expect from a 10 year old, not a techie. I would seriously question his techie knowledge after viewing this video or his abilities to accurately evaluate a game or platform. Considering his other videos, how can he run a machine that only gets him 4 fps, when I run SL at all the highest settings, and I get 40 fps on a 700 dollar desktop. He's a spaz!

Tho, the whole elevator thing did have me laughing quite a bit. Again tho, he seems to think the elevator is some problem of LL's, and completely misses the fact that some1 in the world, somewhere made the elevator.

  6. It is obvious that there is a problem with communication, and no1 really knows how to solve this problem.

As I'm sitting here, I recall times on the forums when LL kind of announced upcoming changes or projects. Of course, immediately afterwards, tons of people are pissed and adding all kinds of comments. Now, alot of the comments might seem like just BS with piles of ranting, but if you look at the overall picture, LL got a great view on how the community felt, and sometimes things were changed to accomidate the community.

The only real problems that I see, is how it all is presented. The community as a whole, does tend to rag on Lindens quite a bit, claiming they don't spend enough time in SL or that they do not do what we do. Most of this is probably BS, but if any1 of us looked at any1 of each other, we could all probably say the same things about each other. None of us do the exact same things as any1 else, or have the same experiences. But, together, we can have similar goals and views to help SL make decisions.

It's like working with a partner or group, you bring things up because you know that other people are going to bring up issues that you had not thought of. LL just needs to frame things in a way that says, "Hey, we are just bouncing some ideas around and want to know what your thoughts are". Then, all LL has to do is read the thread and they will see loads of examples of why something is or is not a good idea or how to make it better. Sure, some people might get upset or whatever, but if every1 knows that it is just ideas and not something coming in the next month, they will be much calmer about them. So, I guess I'm saying that we need to be brought into the whole process much earlier.

  7. Thanks Suella!

Really, all LL has to do to stop pissing us off, is don't touch our stuff. If something needs to be changed, then spend time creating a way for us to do it fast, do not change it for us. LL could just as easily added the maturity options to the manage inventory page and we could have checked all the right maturity setting ourselves.

No1 needs LL to have a naughty Keyword list, either for the marketplace or for inworld search. If you have a flagging system, then there is no need to treat customers like children. Let each merchant be responsible for what they do. If LL is going to have a list, then that list should be agreed upon or created by, the merchants, not LL.

Just look at the results of LL's current system. There are still naughty crap all over the place, and usually the first places in inworld search. Their naughty keyword BS accomplishes nothing but to add even more unnecessary complexity to the whole thing.

  8. Can some1 invite me to this inworld Merchants User Group, cause i have no idea what it is or why we need to be part of it, but obviously I'm missing stuff.

Does it make any1 else cringe when LL says they consulted with merchants, yet you, yourself, nor any1 you know, is part of the consulting?

Oh, and I did not get any email, and I have not told any1 to remove me from any list.

  9. Ok, I was not really worried about this, as I don't sell anything on the marketplace that would even remotely be considered Adult or mature. Oh, but I just checked and LL thinks that my 2 most recent AOs are somehow mature. WTF! Well, both of those used to have enhancements attached to them. Not any more! Now, are they going to refund me for the days that they are not viewable? And why can't we change the maturity rating, after the fact?

It seems, that the aos had gor in the keywords. All, the others, had no bad words and changed when changed the maturity level. So, why did they get move to mature in the first place?

    ------------------

There is 1 that is ranked Adult: MDHU TKD STAF combat iV3 box

Keywords: boxing fight hit punch right left uppercut backhand system kick strike pummel system combat battle spar jump hitting combo bruise contact kung fu martial arts staf

    -----------------

If any1 knows which word makes this product Adult, oH wait, the only word that is different than another listing is staf. Are kidding me?

  10. You know, i would not even be annoyed at all, if LL made changes on a monday or tuesday. We would have the whole week to correct things. NO, LL likes to do things just before the weekend. I've bitched about this stuff for years now. Go play any game online, no1 puts out updates on thursdays. You know why, cause they know they make the most money on the weekend. LL, they don't care, because they make money either way.

  11. You could go a long way by telling us the naughty words. Why can't we know them?

Plus, Brooke, you need to understand how many times we have had to redo our listings for LL's new site, that we never asked for. It's not hours of our time wasted, it is days and weeks and months. Creators like to create, not redo listings everytime LL changes something. We make money by creating.

PPS: While you're changing the Marketplace, could you do something about the missing review notification? I noticed today that I have tons of new reviews, most of which are saying "I didn't receive the item!". Those customers never contacted me. Nor did they open a ticket, apparently. They just left a one-star review, and I had no idea what happened because I no longer receive an email if a new review is posted. I'd also like to be able to turn off email notification for purchases. Thanks in advance.

Ditto! I have the same thing going on. LL needs to add a messaging system so that the costomers can actually leave us a message, like we had on Xstreet. LL, you know we did used to have a messaging system on these forums. What happen to that?

  13. Welcome Rod!

I'm sure we are all anxious to see what's in your bad of tricks.

Me, I just want to hear something about when mesh is planned for main grid release. Some of us are waiting on releasing new products until mesh is live. I swear, we won't go postal if the date get pushed back, but we need some kind of heads up.

  14. I second Suella's suggestion about groups on the web. Avatars United gave us a small look at how some of this can work together, but we needed it in the viewer.

Plus, If you move all the sidebar functions to web windows, then we don't need the sidebar there at all.

Oh, and I'd love to see a blog feature for all of us, either in the profile or eventual group page. Maybe similar to the FB kinda thing, tho I think groups work better for SL than it does for FB.

  15. Actually, there are tons more.

    • every menu is undockable (I like undocking the upload options when uploading animations)
    • can choose which utilities you want to show in the top and bottom bars (too bad we don't have the same options with the sidebar)
    • copy/paste feature (even tho, now, it is almost impossible to find a place you can highlight and copy some1's name, don't ask me why)
    • browser features (I hated them at first, but I find them quite handy now)
    • sorting options and extra inventory window (OMG, these I love to use)

There are many other little things that make V2 nice to use. Oh, don't get me wrong, there are still things that bother me. As each new viewer build comes out, that sidebar keeps proving itself to be a useless concept, yet LL keeps holding onto it. Now, profiles are moved to a webpage window, so what is the point of the profile tab in the sidebar now?

I still have no idea where to put my IM window tho. It's constantly in the way. Just wish it worked like V1.
