  1. You can try this quick fix:

Click on the Advanced Menu at the top of the screen. If it is not next to the Help menu, press ctrl+alt+D to make it show

Select Debug settings.....a small window will open. select "RenderUnloadedAvatar" from the drop down box and then set it to "True"

...or do a more detailed analysis:

Why do I look like a particle cloud? (Formerly known as: I've suddenly and unexpectedly turned into an ugly woman.)

    Old default "Ruth" avatar

In versions of Second Life before Viewer 1.20, we used a default avatar loading form known as "Ruth", as shown at right. When your avatar suddenly turned into an ugly woman, Residents called it being "Ruthed", because Ruth is the historical name of an early avatar form -- not unlike having a great, great-grandmother.

    Default "plasma cloud" avatar

In the Second Life Viewer version 1.20 and later, your appearance is that of a plasma cloud while your avatar is loading. This effect is not permanent and your avatar will take form as things around you begin to rez (load). During this time, you may not access the Appearance Editor.

You also appear as a cloud when some information about you gets lost on the way from one place to another. However, you are not stuck this way permanently! Follow these steps to restore yourself to normal:

    1. From your main menu, click Edit > Preferences > Graphics tab.
    2. Slide the Quality & Performance slider to a lower setting.
    3. Check the box next to Custom on the Graphics tab.
    4. Move the Draw distance slider to the left.
    5. Slide the Mesh Details sliders to Low.
    6. Avatar Impostors is checked by default. If you have unchecked it, activate that feature again.

    Additional helpful techniques:

    • Log out and restart Second Life (relog).
    • Right-click yourself, select Appearance, do NOT save anything, and click Close.

If those don't work, try the following process:

    1. Access and wear a default avatar.
    2. Re-wear your normal shape, skin, clothes, and attachments. This step is much easier if you are using a pre-existing saved outfit, but remember not to save anything before your avatar is restored!.
64px-KBtip.png Tip: If you tried all of the above, and your avatar is still a cloud, submit a ticket to our Support team for assistance.

To get other avatars to load faster:

    1. Lower your draw distance.
    2. Zoom in closely on the avatar that still shows as a cloud.
  2. Wonderful if you want to, but replying to a thread thats been posted and answered 4 months ago is the equivalent to standing on some streetcorner talking to someone who walked away... 4 months ago.

Not that i care cause trust me i don't, i love humour is all forms.

Any contribution is a good contribution no doubt.

  3. " but is there anything else I need to do to unlock certain areas of the map or something like that?"

Adding to Irene's awesome-as-always reply, the main grid is divided up in ratings, there's PG content, mature content and adult content.  You don't have to do a thing or verify age (past what Irene has stated above to prove the move from TSL to the main grid) to access PG regions, just login and you're there.  To access mature and adult you will need to 'age verify' which is a simple and easy process you'll find out about in time... it's just entering info onto a website and if that fails 'manually' submitting scans of ID through a Support ticket.

    Cheers Jonathan.

  4. "Did kinda hope there was a place online to check"

you checked your bank - no transaction... you checked paypal - no transaction... you checked your secondlife account - no transaction... you checked your linden balance - no transaction.  My guess is LL Billing will just say the same, no transaction happened.  The hope though is maybe Billing can tell you why the transaction didn't happen, or who's fault it could be - and that you can't find out from a website

  6. "Can't imagine who I may be referring to in a shameless plug."

no doubt Tolya, thats a guessing game for sure... i'd ask who you were refering to Tolya but i'm sure you probably can't say.  PS, how's the enviorment out your way Tolya?

  7. What would be a good idea is some sort of BBB type group set up for businesses, let's use land as an example.  I rent land from an estate group who personally i find exceptional, if they have and bad press I'm certainly inaware of it.  Use that group to prop good reputable business-people/groups... if there is an instance like the one described here for obvious reasons this land person wouldn't be propped or recommended as reputable.  If they aren't propped or mentioned period, it's not defaming.

Do such 'consumer advocate' groups exist?  If not perhaps they should... it's not so much defaming as it is supporting businesses with good ethics and practices.

  8. Sorry  :/   It does royally suck being as noble and as responsible as to pay so far in advance - have nothing but honourable intent, and having that used against you.  There's no reason for it other than spite.  The irony being, the club you mention is as just as great a risk, anyone is a fool if they think that can't happen to them also.

    Best of luck truely.

  9. yes my answer sucks and i`m sorry for that... but there`s nothing you can really do.  LL doesn`t get involved in disputes between residents; and this is one of those times i really hope someone proves me wrong.

  10. "I believe she was wanting to know how objects that should be stationary, such as a house, can suddenly go "off world"

lol, the she is a he (thus the unkle bob) and yes you're right.  As it turns out my wife was moving the house and it or some things in the house got returned... the message from sl i found pretty funny.  I'll award you correct cause you're relatively new here, you made me smile, and cause of course you were right, all except for my gender haha - but that wasn't the question asked so you're still on the right side of things.  Hope to see more of you here!

  11. It might sound that way, but perspective is everything.

*L$1,000 sign up bonus will be deposited 45 days after premium membership sign up.
**L$1,000 deposited directly into your Second Life account.
***L$300 deposited to your account weekly to shop.

the 1k sign up bonus will be deposited 45 days after sign up, period.  the 1k will be deposted directly into your account, period.  the 300 stipend deposited to your account weekly to shop, period.

  12. Granted it's my humble opinion, but the two being seperate doesn't seem to make much sense.  When you login to the XStreet website you'll see a "my marketplace' box upper left on the page, look for a 'deposit' button... when inworld rightclicking and selecting 'pay' also deposits funds into XStreet.

You are kindly welcome, happy shopping and if you need a hand carrying the bags to your car - call again.

  13. "whta does it matter to you guys anyway."

It archives the post and others having the same issue can use the archives should they have the same issue; in addition it gets it out of the 'possibly answered' column - it being there is pointless is it has been resolved.  The same 'what does it matter to you guys' could have applied to you problem with the viewer but it didn't so if at all possible, humour us.

  14. flamed, for asking a question?   i'm more than likely to pour you a drink

    Invisiprim

    150px-Avatar_behind_invisiprim.jpg
    magnify-clip.png
    Avatar behind an invisiprim

An Invisiprim is a prim with a special texture. This texture is transparent and has the effect to hide all items with an alpha layer, located behind the object with the invisi-texture. This includes water, clouds, particles and the whole default avatar parts. Prims with an invisitexture are not highlighted through the Highlight Transparent feature of the viewer (located in the View menu).

Invisiprims are often used by creators of furry or other non-human avatars, to hide parts of the human default avatar.

The texture can only be set via script (see llSetTexture) and its key is 38b86f85-2575-52a9-a531-23108d8da837

    Critic on Invisiprims

Since the texture not only hides the human bodyparts, but also parts of the surrounding (unwanted x-ray effect), the ability to add alpha layers to the default avatar was requested in VWR-812, to replace invisiprims. A design proposal for this feature can be viewed here.
