  1. Lol, that's a bit sneaky by IMVU and given the discrepancy between their name and 2nd life it can only be classed as a deliberate attempt to fineagle customers away.
  2. along with the above....establish the facts.
  3. Madame, may I commend you not only upon your exquisite prose, but your undeniable chic. Madelaine McMasters peut etre est un nom de plume mais vous etes "la nom de la plume maintenant"***. I have dispatched my butler to escort you to my private Lear and fly you to my tropical hideaway. I have fully customisable intelligence and character sliders with a French insouciance slider plugin slider too for good measure. I await you at the dinner table. Yours faithfully, Mon Sy Beck (La France meilleur chef de la volaille) ***Apolgies to all French speakers for murdering your language
  4. Ya beat me to that one, not sure if basketball, batter practise or with a cannon would go down any better though.
  5. In short Ciaran, nope. Why can't they email this stuff or put it on a login screen or their blog? Apologies to LL if you have.
  6. I'm going to be generous here and believe that you are under 25 and idealistic, which is good and proper and how young people should be. Seriously though, you are looking at the world through rose tinted glasses and classroom dogma. For what it's worth I was in the Communist Party of Great Britain when I was young and idealistic and I'll talk Marx, Engels, Trotsky and Maoism with you all night if you want to and I have spent the majority of my life in politics, so I have at least a basic understanding of how things tick. I'll tell you the secret flaw in any political theory hammered out in a classroom or calculated on a piece of paper. It's this, it involves people at the core of it and people are not a constant and any value/predictive statement you assign to them will vary from one day to the next and at times it will switch from one pole to another more dramatically than you could imagine. You cannot build a formula around people unless you try to strip them of their humanity and turn them into machines that co-operate and even then as history has shown it still fails. China owns the farm at present because it's doing a far better job at cut throat capitalism than the West, likewise India, but ask yourself, would you rather be poor where you are now or poor in either of those countries. You rail against the shareholders and investors of a company. These would be the people who took their own money and invested it in the first place in Rosedale's little pipe dream and took the risk. Because of them a lot of people now have jobs and we get a cool playground. Where was the people's collective when Rosedale was going round cap in hand asking for money. What similar start up ventures are you currently donating to and when are you going to start your version of Utopian SL and where are the million other small donators that you will you need. If you don't know I'll tell you a place where you can find a million little people who do make small donations as a collective to invest, it's called a stock exchange. I can assure you of this, no system of governance or commerce is fair or perfect, each brings its benefits and each brings its bogeyman. If you replace the system you will get different benefits, but you will also get a new bogeyman. So far the Marxist bogeymen have no better record of treating the masses than others and often times worse. /rant over /me goes off to SL escape all this BS
  7. The question was whether a premium account was worth it and the answer to that varies depending on your wants and needs in SL, there is no right answer to it. You offered the advice to take everything for free, which I'll admit LL allows. Many of the people who don't purchase premium membership though rent land/estates instead and bring RL money into the game for rent or purchases, which a percentage of goes into the LL coffers to keep the whole thing running. I don't have a problem with LL's model appropos paying and non-paying customers, what I find ironic is somebody who cites corporate greed, but then goes on to advocate a lifestyle of take take take and don't give to others, and then disparages anybody who does give into the system that supports them as a fool. But, meh, that's your SL, have a good ride. :smileyhappy: [ETA] Thank you Rolig that's how I should have expressed it :matte-motes-kiss:
  8. Out of interest, what do you think would happen if all the paying customers took your advice too? Your freeloading theory of SL economics is only possible because there are people doing all the things you advise others not to do, such as buying land, bringing money into the game and purchasing premium. If your contribution to SL is to just take from it, well that's fine, but a little less disparaging and general disdain of others who choose to contribute wouldn't go amiss either. They are after all the ones paying for your little free playground to exist.
  9. That's just ridiculous, 16/28 threads authored by a Linden and most in the past 48 hrs. Well done for exposing it to the glare of sunlight Venus, maybe that will kill 'em off. :smileytongue:

I'm sure that if you paid more than everybody else you'd be miffed if somebody who paid L$50 appeared before you. Are many leaving? Can you link a source? According to the video above 16,000 people join SL each day. Are you suggesting more than that leave each day? I agree that MP is doing nothing beneficial for inworld shopping or land sales in general. As regards, them [LL] listening to us and doing what we want maybe they do listen, but when are we rarely all in agreement with each other and people who write in forums do not represent the vast majority. A user survey that had to be completed before a login addressing a wide range of known issues would be better and yes, it would be nice to see the end results. All those tech things that happen to you that you have listed hardly ever happen to me. I'm sure that when you eventually get round to buying a new computer most of them will disappear for you too. This is a resource hungry platform made worse by people using too higher resolution textures, using unnecessary scripts or AOs when not needed. If they won't change or your PC can't handle it then there is little at the moment that LL can do to change that. As for your final point LL have told us what they are doing in that video and various other resources too if you could spare a minute to look there first rather than a minute venting your spleen here to be redirected there anyway. I read the link and it had some good points; however, unfortunately for me, he did not address lowering tier costs and the extravagent $1000 start up fee, which is way too much for most people to afford with the troubles in the Eurozone, and the debt ceiling and current tax issues undecided in the US. I would like to own some land, but it's just way too expensive right now. Also, if they ever are going to waive the start-up fee again, a little notice time would be helpful so people could try to plan if and when they can afford it. Announcing a no start-up fee a few days before it appears is not enough time to plan finances/budget. Yeah I agree, I said the same when I posted that link elsewhere that it was wrong not to address it in the Q&A. I think it's one of those things that nearly everbody agrees on that tier pricing as it stands at the moment is doing nobody any favours economically, LL included. Special offers offering free sims is only good for a few individuals. The analogy irl would be offering me Buckingham Palace for free. Could I though afford the upkeep of it? Not in a million years. I wish that they would understand that it is easier for people to arrange the money and finance the setup fee than it is to finance the ongoing tax tier that makes buying estates a no go proposition for so many people at the moment.
  11. Oh I have seen that too Daniel, but I've also read and I think another poster in another thread mentioned that gamers are spending less hours in total on all games whether it's online or offline gaming and an increasing amount of time on social networks connected with the games or pure social networks such as FB and similar. Whether SL users comply less or more with that observed trend I've no idea or indeed whether it's due to the entry experience in SL for new users.
  12. Well quite Venus. You'd think that they would want to showcase us at least some of what happened at SLCC and a CEO reporting on the past year and outlining plans for the future with a Q&A too should at the very least get a link on their blog...?

  15. I didn't know the game so I looked it up. It says it's marketed under license from Hasbro. You sure you have the necessary permissions to reproduce the game? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mille_Bornes

If you were in an airplane you are not constantly winding your watch forward or back as you travel; there is no need. It is only necessary once you land. People still wear watches? My cell phone has a clock that goes backwards and forwards automatically for me. Sad to spoil your fast lane lifestyle Perrie, but your cellphone won't work in space. It depends on radio masts on the surface of the earth whose signal will be to weak to reach you. If you look at pics of astronauts on the shuttle or the space station they will usually be wearing at least one watch if not two.

As an engineer who's natural bent is to want precision, I avoid these concerns by carrying my family heirloom pocketwatch. It stopped ticking in 1952, saving three generations of McMasters from the worries of punctuality. Then you have that rarest of things, a watch that is completely accurate, at least twice a day. :smileywink:
  18. Once you are out of the atmosphere you then you go into the realms of Universal Time and it's many variants and out of GMT. For all intents and purposes the astronauts on the spaceship are existing in the same time frame as from where they took off. The only factor that will change this is when they re-enter Earth's atmosphere and switch back to GMT and of course where they land. So, if you take off from Cape Canaveral you leave at local time, to then transfer to UT for the purposes of worldwide tracking and telemetry and then return to GMT upon re-entry. If you are landing back at the Cape then you have lost no time and have remained on Florida local time. If you land anywhere else then it is +/- from Florida time depending on direction. 24. Try logging into various quiet sims and doing the usual again and have you checked your connection speeds? Might be issues at your end.
  25. OK I've just upgraded to 2012 and thought I would check here first to see if there were any known issues with SL. I'm now glad I did, but does anybody know if SL is now able to handle v1.4.1 upwards and that all the info here is still applicable. Thanks in advance for any info.
