  1. Well, you could achieve this, but it would take more than just LSL, you would essentially need a customised version of the viewer and some bot accounts. The bots would be your cameras, either streaming or generating snapshot type images. Make sure the output is accessible via the web and use media on a prim to display it back in world. Lots of work and lots of your own bandwidth would be needed. I get what you are saying about a 'nice to have' feature, I've thought the same thing myself about having true reflective surfaces, but features like these have the potential to utterly destroy performance, particularly if overused or deliberately misused. Reflections are bad enough and they would only need to be rendered on the client side. But a camera/screen setup, even if rendered by the client, would place a lot of extra load on the servers. The server would have to send extra data, for areas you normally could not see. Even if its restricted to only working in one sim you would either effectively have to ignore view distance and send all data for everything in sim, or determine which screens were in view, which cameras they were related to and what was in view of those camera(s) and send that in addition to the usual set of data. Remember that although a sim is only 256m per side, it is thousands of meters high. Multiply that extra data by the number of sims, number of cameras and number of avatars present and consider the impact of lots of cameras/screens on bandwidth used by the server.
  2. OK... so first, what is the exact message it gives you? Secondly, is the message from SL or from the rezzer box ? If its a rezzer and the house is a no-copy house then the rezzer would be 'empty' after rezzing the only copy you have. That could well cause it to error if you try and rezz again, so, have you checked permissions on the rezzed house and all its parts? Next, instead of rezzing from the box have your tried rezzing it on your land, taking that rezzed version into inventory and rezzing that in the sandbox ?
  3. There are a couple of problems with that 5 face shape. To use it for building it will have to be a paper-thin wall, or the nature of the underlying prim shape starts to come out. The shape itself kind of folds in under itself in places (make one, and before you flatten it you will see what I mean) and once its been flattened for use this can result in texture flash when you view it from a distance. You could do something similar with just a path cut cube to get 2 faces, but still have some thickness to it and no texture-flash issues, although of course 2 faces is no where near so handy as 5. In the end though, whatever you are building, be it prims, sculpts or mesh, you end up having to compromise somewhere, maximum detail costs maximum prim counts or land impact or whatever we call it now. You have to come to a level of detail that works for you within the resources you have available. It's always a challenge.
  4. As Rolig said there are several issues but first things first. Firstly it probably is saying something, but its saying it on channel 9999, your callBackChan and avatars can only hear things said on channel 0. Be aware though that llRegionSay will NOT send anything on channel 0. you want a regular llSay for that. Secondly and most importantly, you are confusing what the llDetected.... functions do. Inside of a touch event, any function starting with "llDetected" relates to the person that was TOUCHING the prim, the the person who touched is what that event has detected. You need to be capturing information about who the sensor detected in a sensor event. Inside that event llDetected functions will relate to people detected by the sensor. Theres more, but that should deal with it not detecting and not saying anything.
  5. I wouldn't go looking for direct causes, I wouldn't go blaming the groups or the members. I got a 1L$ charge off of the second life birthday group, which is Linden owned, and according to the group role details I'm not even flagged for paying/receiving group liabilities. Whatever the cause it's either a bug or some sort of test.
  6. There is a duty on a merchant to make it clear that a thing being sold is limited beyond the usual level of the permissions, but how far do you have to go ? Personally I always ( I think always ) put a note to the effect that the use of my creations is limited by a terms of use agreement and my vendors can give you a copy of the terms, or I use notecard givers to make sure they are always available. Of course I still get IMs now and then asking what the terms are, and I'm entirely certain that there are pople who don't read the text on my vendors at all, either because they are just looking at the pictures or maybe english isnt a language they are skilled in. But when have I done enough to try and notify someone in advance of the TOS? To my mind, the best way to solve these issues would be to have a new set of permissions implemented. At the moment you have current owner permissions and next owner permissions. If there were a set of 'resale permissions' then content creators could sell re-usable textures, scripts or whatever and limit the follow on uses of them. This would let me set 'next owner - COPY/MOD/TRANS' 'resell COPY OR TRANS ok'
  7. Thanks for that Innula, I was worried they were moving some sensitive and valuable information into some unacountable little backwater.
  8. You know, beyond the question of whether or not this particular email is a phishing attempt, am I the only one just a little concerned that Linden Labs are using an offshore gambling firm to handle payments ? I would never give those people access to my bank accounts or credit cards and I would be hugely worried if it transpires that they have taken over existing payment details already on file. edited to add: Gibraltar are kinda/sorta in the EU does anyone know if privacy legislation extends to them ? Do they have to take account of the Data Protection Act ?
