    Greetings Dakota ,

I have an advertising agency that offers Advertising services in SL and also a Job Agency that  offers its services to both of job owners and job seekers in SL . Could you please tell me where I can create a thread for these types of services in the forums and under which categories since they are not tangible products but they are services and I cannot list them in market place. In the past I used to post that under the category "service"  in the old forums and xstreetsl , but now I cannot find appropriate  category so I wonder where to put my threads for the people to know about my different offers related to these two entities and without violating the forums guidelines oGrr consider that to be brutal advertising or soliciting or such.  Appreciate your help since I had suffered some removals for my posts . Thank you.

    Greetings!

There is still the Services category on the Marketplace for listing services.  Please remember that you must charge at least 50% of the service fee when you create the listing.

there answer to everything is start a jira if u want it changed...soon enough we just will give up and take our money and business elsewhere

    Greetings Sweet Valentine!

A teddy bear is a toy. It can be placed into the Stuffed Animals sub-category or the Any Occassions sub-category. However, stuffed animals shouldn't be put into the regular Animals category. It is a toy.

The Linden Bears category is there because it was created that way on the old Xstreet SL Marketplace and was imported that way to the new Secod Life Marketplace.

This doesn't justify putting your listings into a wrong category just because there are issues with the category tree on the Marketplace that need to be corrected.

The textures category has sub-categories.  If your product fits into one of those sub-categories and you place it into the main Textures category then yes, your product listing is in the wrong category and will be unlisted and if not corrected, removed.

Most people ignore the ToS or Listing Guidelines when they are presented at account sign up or store creation, but sellers really should read them before they end up with their content all unlisted.

Ignorance of the rules is no excuse and will still get products unlisted or blocked.

    https://marketplace.secondlife.com/listing_guidelines

"Select the most specific category that is appropriate for the item"

"Do not post items in the "Root" categories such as Apparel, Home & Garden, etc. unless you absolutely cannot find an applicable sub-category that applies."

"Listings in the wrong or inappropriate category may be removed to avoid confusion."

It isn't "silliness" to follow the rules and help maintain a clean and clear Marketplace.

If you prefer not to be bothererd with taking the time to ensure that you are placing your product listings into a correct sub-category, you may do as Josh has done and lump them all into the "Everything Else" category where they will not be moved or flagged for category issues.

I've never had anything flagged for being in "everything else".

If you're not sure what else to do, you can probably at least start the process by relisting the items under that.

    Greetings Josh!

The "Everything Else" is a catch-all category full of uncategorized items.

Like a junk drawer in your garage or kitchen that is full of stuff that has been tossed all together into one place.

The reason why none of the products in that category are flagged for being in the wrong category is because it _is_ a junk drawer equivelant of products.

The "Everything Else" category is pretty much what the Marketplace would look like if there were no categories and/or the Product Listing Review Team and other users weren't vigilant in trying to keep the rest of the Marketplace cleaned up and looking nice so that buyers can find stuff.

Got a message that 2 of my items were removed because they were listed in the wrong catagory, and asked to relist..

The thing is, I have 20 of these items, and they're all in the same catagory, and I believe they are in the correct catagory, they are wall decals used to decorate your home. So why shouldn't they be listed under Home & Garden > Decor ?

I also have 3 listing enhancements on these items for the landing page catagory. I am concerned that this will affect them.

    Greetings!

There is a category dedicated to wall decorations, located here:

Art » Wall Art and Murals

Since the Marketplace Listing Guidelines specifically state to select the most appropriate category for a product listing, if a catgory does exist for the type of product you are listing, it should be placed into that category.

If it isn't placed into that category, it is subject to being unlisted.

So, recently I started searching for items and filtering prims.

One problem I found was that a lot of people put 0 prims on objects that are clearly dozens, if not hundreds of prims.

Shouldn't there be a way to flag that as false advertising?

    Greetings!

The default when creating a product listing is blank.  Meaning that if the seller doesn't enter the prim count, then nothing is reported and the system defaults it to a zero prim count.

The optimum behavior would be that when a seller doesn't manually enter the prim count that the listing itself shows "Not Supplied" instead of zero.

I have created an internal Jira Ticket for the Dev Team regarding this issue and it will be added to the list of things that need to be addressed.

Thank you very much for replying, Dakota!

Recently, I've been working on a complete combat system with many different parts. I'm finding that combat types of things are spread throughout the marketplace. Hence.... I think that instead of Weapons being the main category, Combat should be. So, you might have something like this:

                             Combat

                                  //\\

HUDs, Weapons, Hand to Hand, Non Player Characters

Plus, more sub categories. This is just off the top of my head tho.

Oh, and could LL add a male, female, and character subcategories to Animation Overides. Currently, the enhancements for the Animation Overide category is swamped with enhancements and separating them would result in more animators paying for enhancements for the sub categories. Plus, it is greatly needed.

These are some really good suggestions.

We are limited on the changes that can be made in the Marketplace at the moment. There is no way to move any of the existing categories, so we cannot move all the existing Weapons categories under a new Weapons header under Combat.

We can change the category name from Weapons to Weapons & Combat Systems, then add a new sub-cat under that for Combat Systems with further sub-cats.

     Weapons & Combat Systems

       Combat Systems

         Combat Huds

         Training Dummies & NPC's

         Hand to Hand Combat

I am also passing along the information regarding adding 3 new sub-categfories for the AO's. Male, Female & Unisex.

Hopefully we can get the AO's added as quickly as possible since those will take less work configuring them and getting them added to the Category Tree.

  9. Hello Catwise,

Yes, we do know that as with the old Xstreet site, Merchants should get an email when a product is unlisted that includes the reason why it was unlisted and should also provide the correct category for their product.

This feature/function will be implemented in a future update to the site, but at this time we do not know when.

Brooke and I have also spoken about communication with alerting Merchants to the new categories and how this can be done effectively.

Most likely this information will be included in the Marketplace Update notes that are posted.

I just think  LL should change item to the right category when someone flag an item because of that.

If is an adult item, just active the adult thing and change it to the right category, that would make life easier for all of us, for LL cause they won't have lot of tickets about that problem and our items won't be unlisted and they would keep getting commission and for us not loosing our time.

    Hello Catwise,

If Linden Lab moved listings to the correct category, then there is a chance that users will not take the time to learn where their products should be placed, or place them into the correct categories, because they will figure that eventually Linden Lab will get around to putting their products in the correct location.

If a seller places a non sculpted item into a sculpted prim category, then they deserve any negative reviews and comments that they get on the listing.

Please keep in mind that the Marketplace Listing Guidelines policy page gives multiple warnings that products can be unlisted if they do not comply.

    https://marketplace.secondlife.com/listing_guidelines

"Be sure to follow these guidelines when listing items. If your listing does not, we may remove it in our discretion, and no refunds will be issued for any removed listings."

"Listings in the wrong or inappropriate category may be removed to avoid confusion."

"We may remove listings or change the ratings of listings that we deem to be in the wrong or inappropriate category in our sole discretion."

While any system that limits the interruption to the sellers products on the Marketplace is preferable, it is still ultimately the responsiblity of the seller to ensure that their products comply with all of the rules and guidelines regarding listing content on the Marketplace web site.

  11. Hello Medhue Simoni,

Zombies are not animals.  They are monsters, but the Marketplace doesn't have a Monsters category. :)

From the description of your product, the Recreation & Entertainment category is the correct one, at this time.

Since there are training materials that have been created for combat, like targets, training dummies, and your fightable zombie, there does appear to be a need for a category specific to those types of products.

So, where would that sub-category go, and what would it be called?

Currently the bulk of products that fit that type are placed into the Sporting Goods category.

Would those types of products be better suited under the Weapons categories?

I would love to hear you ideas about it so that we can see about getting the new category added to the Marketplace.

My point is, it would be good if such changes were announced. I think I keep my eyes open for news but if this was announced anywhere I missed it.

    Greetings!

Since your boat products were in the correct Boats category, they are not at risk of being unlisted when new detailed type sub-categories are added.

As the number of product listings grows, or new types of products are created in Second Life, the Marketplace categories will change and grow.

This may not always happen immediately, but it will happen.

If anyone has suggestions for categories that they would like to see added to the Marketplace, please create a Second Life Jira ticket.

  13. Greetings!

A Magic Box is only 1 prim, no matter how many items you place into the Magic Box, it will always remain 1 prim.

You can limit the number that are rezzed to limit the prims.  So you can use 5 instead of 20, or 10 instead of 20, depending upon how many prims you have available.

Just remember to set the number available on the listing to the number you have available across all Magic Boxes you have rezzed.

You can then re-stock the Magic Boxes as the products are sold.

Using this method will also allow your listing to gain sales rankings, which will get it a better showing in the Marketplace.

If you have 20 different listings, they will only get 1 sale and be gone, whereas if you set up one listing to handle all of your bundles, your listing will have the chance to get good sales rankings and reviews that will help boost the listing.

  14. Greetings!

If one or more of your products was unlisted but you are unsure why, it is recommended that you submit a Support Case instead of just re-listing the item.

if you had to delete the original listing to re-list the item, then that is a violation of the Marketplace Listing Guidelines.

If you just click on the List link on the entry on your Manage Inventory list without correcting the issue, there is a good chance your product will be removed/blocked on the Marketplace if the item is found again with the same Listing Guideline violation.

When you submit the Support Case choose Marketplace - Marketplace Listing Issues as the options when you Create a Ticket in the Support Portal.

Also include the exact name of the item as it is shown on your Manage Inventory List and if you can, the direct URL link to the listing on the Marketplace.

You can get the direct URL link by clicking on the Preview link that is on the Manage Inventory entry for the item.

If that is no longer available, than ensure that you include the name so that I or one of the other members of Customer Support can quickly locate the item on your Manage Inventory list.

We can then assist you with understanding why your product was unlisted or blocked so that the issue can be corrected properly.

Like so many other people, I've become enthralled with the breedable pets game. The various "eggs" you get from breedable pets are sellable and the marketplace is a popular place to sell them, especially for people looking for a single specific trait they desire.

My question is, is there a way to use the marketplace as a sort of "gatcha" where i can have 1-20 or so no-copy items delivered from the same listing? say, "Random Bundle" through "Random Bundle 19"? Or must I laboriously list each one singularly (especially since the bulk edit doesn't let you set a bulk picture, lesigh~), clog marketplace results with my crap, and make my store look intimidatingly huge?

    Greetings!

If you wish to have one product listing, but have it linked to multiple copies of a product, you must rez multiple Magic Boxes.

Say you have 20 eggs for dragons, and you wish to sell all 20, but not all of them are the same exact egg. So you want to sell them as a Random offering (according to your above message).

You will need to name all of the eggs the exact same name, and then rez 20 Magic Boxes (one egg in each Magic Box).

EX:  You have have 20 dragon eggs and you name each one "Random Dragon Egg May 2011"

You would then add one egg with that name to each of the 20 Magic Boxes that you have rezzed in world.  If you add more than 1 egg to the same Magic Box, a number will be appended to the name (Random Dragon Egg May 2011 1, etc.) and you will be unable to link them to the same listing.

Go to the web site and create 1 product listing called Random Dragon Egg May 2011 and then include in the item description that there are XXX numbers of eggs available and that each time one is purchased the buyer will get a random trait egg that was laid during the month of May 2011.

Under the Quantity Available section when you create the listing enter the number of eggs you have. In this case, 20.

Once all 20 eggs are sold, the listing will be set to Unavailable by the web site to prevent anyone from purchasing any more than the 20 available.

Anyone selling breedables should do the same thing, instead of creating 20 different listings.  Especially if they are offering a bunch of random ones, or are offereing multiples of the same traits.

This helps keep the categories from getting cluttered, and keeps the listings in compliance with the rules, since listing the same item multiple times is a no-no under the Listing Guidelines.

You can also go back and add more eggs to your Magic Boxes, just remember to use the same name for each item and then you can edit the listing to change the number available back up to 20, or however many more you have available.

You can also keep the same listing and change the Month in the name, so that eggs laid in June can use the same listing by changing the name from May to June on the listing and on the eggs in the Magic Boxes. As long as you are still offering the same random eggs and not a different species of pet. (horse, as opposed to dragon that is used in the example above).

If your listings are showing as Unavailable on your Manage Inventory list or the sales of all of your products are failing then there is an issue with the Marketplace communicating with your Magic Box in world.

I am including the steps here to fully reset your Magic Box. If this does not correct the issue, please ask to have the region where your Magic Box is locate restarted then reset the Magic Box again.

This should fully restore all of the communications between the Marketplace web site and your Magic Box on the region.

Make sure you are using the most recent version of the Magic Box, located here:

    https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Xstreet-SL-Magic-Box/36791

    1. Go to your Magic Box Status Page that is linked under your Merchant Home Page on the Second Life Marketplace and remove all of the Magic Boxes you have listed there.

    2. Go in-world and "Touch" each Magic Box and select Reset from the popup menu that appears.

    3. Wait. Do not reset your Boxes again during this time or you will risk having your Box show up with incorrect data and your items will remain inactive). The Magic Box colors will change during the communication process. Once the Magic Box returns to the default color, the communication process is complete and the Magic Box should be re-linked to the web site.

    4. After the Magic Box color changes back to the default, go to your Manage Inventory page on the Second Life Marketplace and click on the "Sync Marketplace with Magic Boxes" button located on the right side of the page.

If you believe that the issues that you pointed out with regards to making category selections and the default that the product is unlisted from the Marketplace in accordance with the Terms of Service and Marketplace Listing Policies should be changed, please submit a Second Life Jira ticket so that the Marketplace and Dev Teams can research the issue and research the possibility of changing the system from how things are done now.

  21. Hello Mickey,

I used the word "slick" to refer to those who are specifically putting their products into top level categories when they know they should be using one of the appropriate sub-categories.

It is not being used to refer to those who do not know that there is a sub-category, or there isn't one available for their products.

As for the available choices for the categories, sellers can also put a chair into the Horses category, since that is an available category on the Marketplace.

It doesn't make placing that product into the horses category any more correct than placing it into the main Home & Garden Category.

You are asking about the "abuse in flagging" but I have yet to see any clear cut abuse occurring.

What is occuring is users who's content is being unlisted because they chose the wrong category for their product listings.

If you believe that abuse is occuring, please provide specific cases and I will review the issue as I did with you in your Support Case.

  22. HI Phil,

Ah!  Thank you for the clarification.

But as you said, there are far too many items displayed in the top level categories. So they are still not getting the exposure they would by placing the product into the correct sub-category because their item now has to compete with all of the other products in that category, and all of its sub-categories.

The whole point of the categories on the MKT is visibility.  If you have one item that is mixed in with 20K other items, it becomes nearly impossible to see that item.

If you have the item in a category with 500 other items, then your product has a greater chance of standing out amonst the others.

The Marketplace tries to stradle the line between Search and Browse.

Sellers who are mindful of the name of the product, who use the Features tab optimally and who chose good and correct keywords have a better chance at having their products found from a search standpoint.

Those who prefer to browse categories can then drill down into the sub-categories to refine their browsing.

The whole finding products functionality though relies nearly 99% on sellers who adhere to the Listing Guidelines when creating product listings.

(the other 1% is getting good categories set up in the MKT).

When sellers use junk keywords, or create weird names for their listings, or do not bother to use the Features tab, they hurt themselves far more than they help themselves from a search standpoint.

When they place their products into the wrong category, or place it into a top level category, they are hurting themselves by potentially losing sales to those who chose to browse rather than search.

  23. Hello Phil,

There seems to be some confusion about how the Marketplace works.

You stated: "With directories, people want their stuff as high up the tree as possible, because the higher up they are, the more visible they are."

This isn't how it works on the Second Life Marketplace, and here is why:

Any product in a sub-category is automatically displayed in the top level category.

    Home & Garden

    Decor

    Exterior Decor

Any product placed into the Exterior Decor category is automatically shown in the Decor category and it is shown in the Home & Garden category.

By placing content into the top level categories, sellers are actually LIMITING the amount of exposure their products get.

If a seller places a product listing into the main Home & Garden category, the ONLY people that will see it are those who are viewing the main Home & Garden category.

They are, to put it bluntly, screwing up their chance at a sale.

Lets look at a specific example.

A seller creates a beautiful tree and they place it into the main Home & Garden - Landscaping category instead of placing it into the Home & Garden - Landscaping - Trees & Shrubs category.

So they "think" they will be getting better exposure for their product, but they aren't.

    Here is why.

As a buyer, I am looking for trees for my land.I do a search for trees in the Marketplace and I see that there is a category specifically for trees, so I go to that Home & Garden - Landscaping - Trees & Shrubs sub- category and I find a whole bunch of trees, and I buy 4 of them.

Now, do you think, in the above scenario that the person who put their tree into the main Landscaping category was one of the people that sold a tree?

    No. Why?

Because they did NOT put their product listing into the Trees & Shrubs category, which means that when the buyer was looking in the Trees & Shrubs category for products, that sellers items was not there, since they put it into the wrong, top level, category. They potentially lost a sale.

So how, exactly, is that getting better results for the seller? It isn't.

They lost a potential sale by thinking they were being slick by putting their product listings into a top level category, which again, is a direct violation of the Marketplace Listing Guidelines.

So not only is that seller violating the rules, they are hurting themselves financially by not following the rules that are set down for a reason, in addition to contributing to the Marketplace categories being a total mess with stuff placed everywhere and anywhere.
