  1. My votes would be for: 1. The picture frame that changes (but super easy for any builder to make). 2. A new sky-home or ground home - but most are copy/mod/no-trans, but marketplace might let you circumvent this and buy for somebody. I thought it could do that...? 3. Some builder kits. If he's a builder he'll always like things such as new sculpty map packs. Me and my friends horde those, so unless we're different; that's just a builder-geek thing. 4. A pack of dances for his dance hud, or a hud if he lacks one. I'm partial to henmations here, but check some other brands too. 5. A new furry AV. Cause everybody needs a furry AV, but that's just me. - Those are my initial thoughts. Oh and another reason to not buy the sex bed is that they can cause some amazing script lag. The common menu system in most of them burns from 3 to 5mbsof script memory depending, and you can see the script time of a sim dip when when put one out if you record the number before and after... - If he's a builder he's likely to know that or become aware of it sooner than most, and then end up semi-resenting having to keep this 'gift' out when you're around that's slowing his land down.
  2. I write fiction and I've always been a story teller - the idea of making my character in a video game based off of myself just never occured to me. But I still had no idea what I would make my character in Second Life resemble when I first entered. So I started out just trying to get a shape that looked appealing on screen while I figured out what the heck this thing was all about. I joined during a 2006 bug that had a lot of things rendering as gray - so I had no textures and thought it was my iBook being under system reqs rather than a bug. Spent my first 2 hours on help island editing my shape. Had the avantage of not being distracted by a texture so that the resulting shape was and still is good and in fact is now a freebie I give out. I didn't last in SL - a game where everything is gray and it took me a couple of hours to figure out how to get to the event I'd been invited to (my reasonn for the initial log in) didn't seem appealing at the time. So I left only to return in 2009. Shortly into exploring in 2009 I found a freebie box and wore the contents - discovering myself to now have a tail and cat ears. I'd seen Neko and catgirl art before and had always loved it - and when I found I could be that, my sense of self in SL got some direction to it. A few weeks in I took to putting money into SL and earning money at dance contests and on 'stripper poles'... ...(I love being nude in SL, and so why not and for me there is no conflict between this and my faith since original sin was wearing clothes in shame of Jah's image anyway (See Thomas Hobbes' Leviathan where he shows its clothing and not the apple)... ...But once I hit that point I searched out a quality neko kit and the skin I still wear. On this 'character' that skin is my only non-furry skin (we'll get to furry and me in a moment). Over time I've improved the shape in little bits as I've learned how the dials work -together- (yeah, saddle bags and leg length affect butt shape - to different degrees, but I didn't know this in 2006, and some shape settings work better with some AOs and -the one everyone knows- skins). But this character is still mostly my 2006 version, with up to date neko bits and a 2009 bought skin. I did branch into furry though - once I found some nice feline avatars. That started when another character of mine wore the contents of a freebie box and found herself a black fox furry. I spent a few days wandering with that on and looking at furry makers products and realized I really liked the look - so I went out and spent some 10k lindens getting furry avatars for all my characters (accounts). Took me some 3 different furry avatars to find the 'right one' for Pussycat - which you see in my profile image. But recently I gone back to neko - using a neko kit made by AX, the maker of my furry avatar. I bought her 'tan colored' neko tail / ears / leg-fluff / arm-fluff kit and recolored it the red-brown I like on Pussycat (very easy kit to mod - furry makers tend to always make their stuff easy to mod). BTW: Furry makers make the best neko tails. Way better than what the 'neko only' makers put out. One thing that has become a 'rule' for me is each 'character' is her own angle of my exploration of myself and SL - so each is her own account, and I don't share their inventories much. Each has her own wardrobe, and each has her own furry avatar and sometimes other creature or hybrid avatar. My friends get a little confused because friending me means you end up friending 4 or 5 different accounts and having to remember they are all me and some of them might show up sans clothing while the others never will (the more furry I am at any given moment, the more PG - with rare exceptions). To me they are characters, role I play; but which are also extensions of myself. So while I don't do SL romances and don't bring RL into SL and vice versa - I try to treat everyone as Jah commands; with a good heart and a kind hand. I get into scraps on forums a lot, but inworld I've managed to pull that off most of the time.

  4. Darn was hoping it would be something on the other side of Bay City, the extended west coast kind of ends 'suddenly' dropping off into a void.
  5. Yeah I was just coming in here to edit my post to say 'nvm' but you beat me to that. Read the wiki and noted the exception. Too bad because there's a great abandoned lot me and a friend have been watching, and I was hoping to snag it up for us.
  6. This isn't live yet is it? Standing on a lot atm that's abandoned and not seeing a buy option.
  7. "Frame Load Interrupted by Policy Change" Got that trying to view my profile (Pussycat's) while on my 'main alt' Bunny... O.o So I tried another alt and got: Application Error An error occurred in the application and your page could not be served. Please try again in a few moments. If you are the application owner, check your logs for details.???
  8. Oh and someone asked where the thread started. I posted it in Identity and Relationships since in another thread there that thread was called the 'public version of its private equivalent'. It got moved, but not answered... Now I guess I need to figure out the best way to reach Blondin Linden - he replies in here sometimes, but apparantly hasn't seen this yet.

There is a private Adult forum for owners of adult-rated land and adult content creators. There is also the private forum Void references. Other than those, I am not aware of other private (by invitation only) forums. Ok there you have it. So who is to be approached to get these opened up as I have adult land?
  10. Ceera Murakami wrote: But some other avatar types require scripts and higher "Avatar Rendering Cost" scores merely to exist in Second Life. To be a typical Furry avatar, with even close to realistic looking fur, you have to put up with an ARC score that would make some Human avatars wince. Do we shave off our fur or look like smooth-skinned cartoon caricatures, or just Humans wearing smooth animal masks? We need scripts, too, for mouths that move and eyes that blink and show expressive emotions in animal-shaped prim heads, and tails that wag, and wings that flap, HUDs that allow a dragon to breathe fire, or scripts to allow horse avatar to wear a saddle that allows another avatar to ride them... I certainly do try to eliminate unnecessary lag inducers like scripted resizers in clothes and hair, but I am not going to go back to being only Human for the sake of an arbitrary low numeric score. Might I suggest you change avatars? My furry AV's tend to have lower script counts than my human ones. The newer furry AV makers have got it down pretty well and can be very low lag.
  11. There are 10 private forums here - I've access to one as I have a presence on marketplace. But I assume the other 9 may or may not also apply to me based on my presence in all three of G, M, and A mainland. The one I do have access to, I was given two forum software systems ago by an unknown moderator and I do not even know how I got it - I believe merely by mentioning in a thread, like this one, that I had a store on xstreet, and then seeing the forum the next day. Clearly someone is paying attention because this thread has been moved from where I posted it - so it would be nice if it could also be answered. There should be a way to find out what we qualify for.
  12. Its been mentioned in another thread that this is the public version of some private forum? So... who do we speak to to get to the private forum, or find out what private forums we would 'qualify' for? - A question I asked in that other thread, but which seems to have been lost in the clutter.
  13. Go here to find reviews of furry avatars: http://www.slarf.org/ Most of the furry groups are pretty silent, but if you joined one and said something you might be able to change that. If you go to Luskwood - it can seem very cliquish - and I suspect the solution to that is to not be a wallflower but to start the conversation yourself or join into an existing one. It is a 'G' rated sim so don't be that person that shows up with the toys on display. There are a -lot- of furry clubs, but almost every last one of them caters to heavy metal subgenres only (punk, metal, acid, and whatever else some of that stuff is called). If that's your thing then you're good to go, if it isn't then you're like me and stuck somewhat outside the community. (I've got a reggae furry hangout, but I've not been managing or promoting it. If I ever find the right set of DJs and people who want to work it for tips and fun - I might get it going. But otherwise I just enjoy the build so that it doesn't become a money sink.) Fill in your profile with all friendly stuff, including the new interests section. I've got a guide here for getting started in second life: http://catnapkitty.wordpress.com/2010/08/08/getting-started-in-second-life/ And you can always IM me for help or for a safe place to change outfits / rez boxes. (check out my M or A rated lots for places to do those things. I recall finding a good spot was a big concern for me when I was new - there are lots of them all over SL, but finding one when you don't yet know what to look for is hard. All of my land allows short term 'rezzing' for package opening, and much of it has little hidden spots.)
  14. This sort of thing will change constantly as different artists come up with varying techiques for conveying one effect or another. You're playing in a 3D game with limited graphics that will render 3D content to a 2D display - what looks realistic will vary depending on your own graphics card, settings, lighting, angle, and so on just as much as the skin and shape. Different artists will do things to make one feature or another look better - for the conditions under which they're testing. Something might end up very realistic to one person, but those same features will be flawed to another. As long as its rendering into a 2D monitor - that problem cannot be avoided. One of the -least- realistic effects in fact happens to be using photographs of skins. Mostly because shadows will be off once in the 3D game environment. So you're best bet is to schedule several days of inworld window shopping - and get demos from lots of people for whatever ethnic look you desire, and the budget buying 3 of them. 3 because... well... the demo will look one way but chances are the first one you buy will not quite be what you thought once you've had it a few days. For shapes the answer is equally complex, and has the added problem of no common agreement on scale. Some people use the numbers (self included) for scale, others use personal taste - which results in a motley variety of different concepts of height and thickness.
  15. Pauline Darkfury wrote: In pure technical terms, encroachment is black and white. In terms of whether it's actually an issue, there are many shades of grey and it's an entirely situational matter. Is the OP's neighbour technically wrong to object to the encroachment? No, not at all. Is the OP's neighbour a "good neighbour"? Nope, not based on the description here of how they handled the matter. Is the OP's neighbour a "bad neighbour"? Yes, they are, if the assertion is true that their response to an issue was to dump visual blight. Did the OP have the right to encroach? Nope, they didn't. Was the OP a "bad neighbour"? Nope, not based on the information here. And yet your idea of a bad neighbor is following the ToS, and your idea of a good neighbor violates the ToS. Encroachment may be the norm on your private estate - but on mainland is a fast route to getting in trouble with the lindens. People do not tend to take kindly to being encroached. You're advocating for a change to a social norm, but I do not think your stance is at all withing the social norm, and it is clearly outside of the ToS. This isn't "Pure technical terms" - that sounds like the excuse of a criminal. "You're honor I understand that shooting him was, in 'pure technical terms a black and white failure to follow the statute', but..." Buddy, you still put a hole in him... This is just as much a "black and white" violation of the SL norms: you don't use or take away from somebody else's toybox without permission. Where this is common, let the owners of the taken space know the ToS and where the report button is and see how long it lasts. Its only common in places where people don't know they don't have to put up with somebody using their space, or are actually on social terms with that encroacher and you're actually seeing a shared build. - In fact you see threads rather often about "somebody put X on my land up at height Z (or ground), and they won't remove it, why doesn't LL do something?" - with the usual response being, "LLs will do something -if- you tell them its happening." and the OP coming back with "Oh! Duh."

Thanks for reading. Given how lonely and empty so much of mainland is, I consider these cars a major feature for keeping some breath of activity to the place. I very much applaud whoever made them for doing so and for releasing them onto the roads. You can have a fun afternoon sometimes just hopping onto one and seeing where it will take you. I've found quite a few new places that way.

On your map there, I'm the little tan rectangle in the sim that's in the upper left, that's on the right-side end of a dead end road, and bottom right of a 'land triangle'. Bay City - Truro. Maybe 2-3 sims distance from where you're wrapping.

Its a bad neighbor to ever encroach over other's land - no matter the height. A good neighbor not only pro-actively self polices their own builds, but also works to avoid being at a height in the sky someone else within normal camera view already occupies. No, it was reductio ad absurdam, pure and simple. Yes, and I think I made that point earlier that being a good neighbour is not about a technical encroaching vs. not encroaching, You made the rant, but not the point. The problem is that you're just flat out wrong. Both wrong in the ToS, and wrong in the general culture of SL. In both there is no form of legitimate encroachment. This is why you are alone in your position on this thread. You are right about reasonable separation between sky builds though - that is part of the general culture of SL.
  19. This has happened to me too before. But not just in v2. Its hit me in the old viewer, and I think imprudence and another. Maybe 3 or 4 times over the years. I'm not sure what t was related to or how I fixed it... I think what you're seeing is your agent rather than your avatar. Try hitting a very low lag sim (the new G-rated Bay City is great for this - land flippers are listing the land so high that no one's been able to buy any of it yet, so you have vast swathes of empty lag free sims), removing all your stuff, and then doing all the cache clearing, relogging, default avatar swaping, and etc. Just in case that is part of it. I'm pretty sure that when it hit me, it just sort of poofed away a bit later, but its been a while since I've seen the problem.

Pauline Darkfury wrote: Luc Starsider wrote: Soooooo, I could by a stamp size plot, say 16x16 m, and if I found some space in the sky that noone else used, I could just get a megaprim as big as the sim out, and make myself a HUGE holodeck if I wanted to. 21. Penny Patton wrote: There are scripts that are pretty close to accurate. They use math fudges to take agent height and translate it into avatar height. Thwey're not entirely accurate, but they're about as close as someone would get standing in front of a measuring prim. I make a freebie which is one of those scripts. LSL, the scripting language of Second Life, has a function called Agent Height which returns a number that is the 'agent' that represents your avatar inworld. That agent is as tall as your eyes... - And that's the crux of the problem right there. How tall are you from your eyes to the top of your hair? All of the scripts you see basically make a guess on that. We each use a formula that recreates what we think is the 'average' settings for things like head size. Some of us then account for '80s hair' and others assume everyone is 'Kojak' with the rest in between. I've also got a height stick located at most of my venues and hangouts in SL, that anyone can stand next to. It has an added feature of marking off ticks for some common nationalities found in SL, as well as the world's shortest and tallest nationalities (not ethnic groups or I would have included pygmies, instead for shortest you get Peruvians if I recall right - average height of 4'8" for women). - Sticks like that, or using a prim, are the only good methods to use unless agent-height ever gets changed...
  22. Since the entry thing can come up with similar interests as you are typing them in - it seems like wildcarding is only a database toggle away. Just have them sort the results showing what the exact interest the other person had typed in, and in order of how similar the words are. Do it so it prefers matches with identical words but differing phrases over those with similar words. In other words: Roots Reggae would be a better match to Reggae than Reggaeton. - Most of the time, that kind of prioritizing is also contextually correct. Though it is not always perfectly clear: Dance, Dancing, Dance club, Dancehall - Which of these is closer in meaning to which? The 4th, in music genres; actually refers to the 'bling, drugs, violence, gangs, and mysogyny' variation of reggae (the 'anti-bob marley' even while the beat can sound the same), but can also mean the same thing as 'dance club'. The first might be intending enjoyment of dancing, or might be a reference to clubs. But most of the time when people put multiple words, they've got a subject with various adjectives, verbs, and adverbs tacked on - but when they alter spelling of a word they do it to intend something different.
  23. The new searchable interests are great and a much desired and finally welcome feature. But they only seem to work on exact matches. The best example to see the problem this creates is give yourself these two: "Exploring" "Exploring SL" And maybe try 'exploring second life' and 'exploring secondlife' - 4 sets of people not finding each other who likely meant the same thing... (Unless the exploring folks just meant exploring the conflicting interests in the war between China and the Mogilian invaders of the middle ages?) What can we do about this? Should we be asking for wildcarding on it, or do we need to start pressuring people to check the results of their interests and pick the most popular wording of any given theme, or just leave it in its somewhat broken / somewhat working state? :)
  24. Pauline Darkfury wrote: Hiya. Yeah, it's largely eliminated the 512 rental market, and sorry that was a sector which it sounds like you were heavily targetting. The other side of it, is do you really want to be dealing with 128 tenants per region (in terms of workload)? I accept that there was a niche there for some, but personally think that 1024 and larger is a more attractive market for both landlords and tenants. That's actually a better position to be in than dealing with even 64 1024 tenants. The more small time tenants a landlord has, the more 'buffer' they can have if they lose a few to seasonal issues, griefer attack driveaways, and assorted factors. A slumlord can handle quite a few vacanies, but rent out lots in beverly hills and a single vacany can take you down.
  25. Well the rotating sign is gone. Now its a giant sign that changes every few seconds and is half on the linden land (but a lot of people do that when near roads). Didn't yet measure it to see if its under 8m, but I've been told by a linden once that these changing signs count as more than one advert. Not sure myself if its in or out of ToS this time. But you can see the owner has also adopted the 'extortion price and advert' tactic to get out of this lot he's stuck on.
