  1. I can already see that I could take the option on the left and with the right shape dials get some Latin American looks. But these look really nice. Actually I like the Asian skin here more than the one I just bought a few days ago from It Girls...
  2. Those look really nice. I failed to find them when remaking my alt last weekend - tried to go to a new brand but ended up with just another skin in the same brand. Maybe when my $L finally recover from moving ALL my alts over to a new head brand... I will go look at these again. 😉
  3. You miss my first post in this thread? Go look it up. My life has been a repeat play of people calling me out for appropriating MYSELF because I don't LOOK like the label they apply to something due to 'race purity' concepts... It can often literally play in a bounce. I will get called out for appropriating something, and then next person I meet will call me out for NOT doing what the first one said I was doing... often with both of them being extremely hostile about it. I've got almost 50 years of this stupidity aimed at me on repeat. Once you get mixed, these labels just fail... You set up your ministry of standards for who gets to be what race and guess what - most of us will, over time, not fit. Appropriation is just a call for segregation under a mask of pretending to be about social justice. It's a ploy to get liberals to act racist. (and guess what, I've met my share of racists of all political bents - so it's not really a surprise... but the danger here is these people THINK they're fighting racism when in reality they're enacting it... That's... not new... after all Housing Projects and the Reservation System were BOTH done by groups of people thinking they were fighting against racism...)
  4. Most of the internet these days is actually on Amazon's cloud servers, in part of in whole. The 'retail store' of Amazon is actually only a tiny part of the larger business that allows them to pretend they're not as profitable as they really are. AWS (Amazon Web Services) is huge. On a scale that is just unimaginable for many people. But because it's not 'consumer facing' the general public has an overall lack of awareness of it It's a good cost offsetting measure for people who go that route because setting up your own servers / renting space in a co-location farm is expensive and gets more so the more servers you have. SL is an ideal candidate because of the vast number of servers it needs.
  5. Not that I don't want to help... It's frustrating that nearly all of the other brands do BIPOC skins by just taking a white skin and applying a hue shader over it in GIMP / Photoshop, and you can tell when you look... I happen to really like both Angel Rock and It Girls so I've been OK for a bit now, but some more options that didn't look like 'Caucasian recolors' would be really nice... At lest with African skins there ARE 2 brands. For Asian the only one I've found is, also It Girls (because Angel Rock's Asian skin is very old and I never liked the feature choice)... and for Chicana skins... zero choices.
  6. I demo'd Angel Rock on that very head a few days ago and they work pretty well together. Just a little bit of overlap in one spot - because Angel Rock makes their skins for Catwa only these days. That said - you've basically rejected the two good brands, so not really help I can think of at this point.
  7. It Girls. That's the brand you want to investigate. It's actually the brand they use in a lot of their product images. Well, in that case I dunno. You could try Angle Rock, but I personally find their skins often are a bit ashy: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/76460
  8. As Regalia shows, on around 30,000 triangles total you can get the same detail as these other bodies do. Upping triangle count doesn't help Jack from Jill... it just boosts lag, slows down rendering, and actually slows down animation of those 'wonderful breast details' you note because there's so much more math to do to figure out where each polygon goes and how light and other things will affect each polygon... What counts... Is triangle placement - angle, position, and grouping, such that the 'lines' and edges of polygons best match with how something will deform, making the math impact as few things as possible, thereby smoothing and speeding up the result. I can do... as some major bodies do... and add a few billion triangles to the belly button then tell noobs that "high higher triangle count" and it doesn't help anything - except confuse your GPU when it's trying to math out where that belly button is at any second and how light should hit it... zero benefit, a whole lotta loss... for what? Likewise I can put millions of triangles all around the breasts and it will still deform badly, have jagged edges, and react weirdly to physics because these three things are NOT about polygon COUNT but about polygon PLACEMENT (angle, position, grouping).
  9. Some forms of inventory manipulation have no confirmation popups on them. It's very easy to accidentally click something and drag it to the inside of another folder without ever seeing that you had even selected it. My preferred viewer also recently had a bug that was moving some of the inventory into the 'lost and found' folder - so there's always the possibility of bugs and glitches. So... Use the field for searching your inventory and see if the thing you're looking for got 'moved' somehow. It happens, and if the cache solution above doesn't fix things, try this next.
  10. And in this new utopian world of the "ministry of cultural purity and proper ethnic conduct standards"; where do I as a mix raced person go? Got a gas chamber somewhere for me to report to for not being 'OK' enough by the very fact of my genetic existence? I know you think you're not in that dark space I outline... but what is the endgame of this mission of stamping out cultural turf for everyone to fit into? That endgame is 'cultural puritanism'... and it's a very dark space to be in. Multiculturalism was a thing for a reason. We need to be coming together not setting up carved out spaces.
  11. It's mod. In the furry world everything is always mod. There's about a gazillion kits out there to swap pieces in or out. The sad thing is, ALL of that can be done with a low triangle count and well optimized scripts. Except for the parts of your quote that I put a strikethrough - because those are the things they expect that are actually bad... and don't need to be there... Human AV users are getting ripped off by developers that don't understand optimizing content. 'BOM' was basically LLs saying "OMG WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU NOOBS, here, please at least do this..." It was their attempt to at least shave a few million polygons off... We've still got a few million more than needed... BOM is like putting a bandaid on a portable nuke... It's better than just leaving the nuke in the living room, but... you've still got a nuke in the living room...
  12. This is because it's not just about triangle density - but also placement. Back in the Daz3D art world I remember this kind of conversation over the 'Vicky' model that eventually became the basis of their 'generation models'. Early versions had some points like that kept deforming. Other 3D modelers that got the model started showing wireframes with various lines and arrows drawn showing how triangles placed at the wrong angles or in the wrong spots were causing it to bend improperly. The result is that in future releases, slowly over time, Daz fixed these issues as they came to light. With every version people seem to find new issues... but it's a back and forth and the triangles keep getting better. Now... that's an art model. So their solution is the exact wrong one for here. Everytime they find a flaw they just up the triangle count by another 30-billion... To really fix this... you'd want to hire somebody that used to work for a company like Blizzard, Zenemax, Square Enix, NCSoft, etc... - Game developers. They have to find a way to make things move and animation in real time on often slower consoles than many of us have as our computers... and... they do it. But they often sacrifice a lot of detail as a result. So you need to work with them and not for them... to bridge the gap between that kind of optimization and what is needed in SL where we can animate the figure in our own ways and see it from any angle.
  13. Oh yeah. I just meant it a problem for someone with a human look wanting to use it. They'd have to deal with the pawed feet and wouldn't be able to use their skins. And I suspect you're right - the maker of, if not a profesional, at least understood optimizing for 'real time graphics' in a manner similar to game developers. A lot few triangles placed only where they are needed for good animation / shaping and not just 'thrown in to fill up density'... This thing was actually optimized. Is it the best that could be? I don't know - I am not a game graphics developer. BUT I can see that it's a lot better than the 'human body' offerings and it just makes me sad that these furry makers who seem to know how to do 'real time 3D graphics' right, don't branch out and take over the human body market... /sigh... When I put them all in wireframe side by side with 2 alts for that image it was shocking. In that image I am still wearing a mesh human head - which is why it suddenly got so dense in triangles up there... but notice how in the head... the density is concentrated to the areas of facial animation. While too dense, at least the head maker understood the basics. On the 2 human bodies... can anyone explain why my belly button has so much triangle density...? How many shape dials and animation rigging points are in the belly button exactly? 0... unless I missed something.
  14. Triangle counts are facts. You can look at this fiasco yourself in wireframe mode.
  15. They used to do that. Assorted new user islands full of "helpful" people. The problem is that anytime the paid staff logged out or looked to the side, the griefers logged in and took up the challenge... This is of course, a trivially easy problem to deal with... ... ...for a company with even a modest understanding of community management and engagement. But SL was founded by 'libertarian utopia' sorts who... don't think through what happens when ideals meet reality (this is true of all 'utopia ideologies', be the this, that, or the other ism...). So they just assumed that things in a free open market would rise to perfection and good people were naturally rewarded for their efforts. Which is... kinda the same thinking of every failed society. SL could do what you desire - but LL would need a radical philosophical readjustment to make it happen.
  16. Wait... MAINsplaining? Not mansplaining? Is mainsplaining when folks from mainland talk all over estate and rental box people like they need to explain the world to those noobs?
  17. /sigh... It will but it shouldn't. The best mesh body I have seen in the past few years is Regalia. Silly low triangle count. super low script impact. And it can wear the clothes of Belleza, Maitreya, Legacy, Slink, and a few more... It just has 2 problems: It comes with paws instead of feet - yep, it's a furry body meant for people who want to wear ANY brand of human clothes. It uses it's own UV map - which was completely unnecessary as UV map is not linked to triangles, etc. After all everyone else is using a UV map from 1999... So that is: Regalia: 31,928 (33736 triangles) Maitreya (only skin layer worn): 134,699 (176,297 triangles) Belleza: 424,473 (521287 triangles) - the complexity numbers come from @NiranV Dean's Dragon Viewer, which doesn't allow cheaters in it's formula, unlike LL's and other viewers. The triangle count however, is just plain facts showing how much these human body makers suck in graphics optimization. Human body makers ain't got NO excuses other than "I haz no skillz". ps: this is why my human look went Maitreya recently. That number up there is still too high, but it's about 1/4th of what it used to be. At least they are trying to improve...
  18. Ya'll had me for a bit there. Belleza plans to make a mesh head, and I was wondering if I had missed it coming out. It's one of those "soon" things... and Belleza's notion of "soon" makes Linden Lab look fast. To the original poster. Now that you have a skin and not a head... if that skin is in a skin tone that still matches to the mesh body... you'll want to make sure the head you do buy once you buy a head supports 'BOM'. - Mosy brands do these days, so that should be easy to deal with. But basically... wear the skin before you demo heads, and if it shows up on the heads when you demo them, you're good to go. If not, look for something in the demo package's HUD to apply BOM, and if it shows up then - good. More or more heads are BOM by default, and need to click something to not be BOM, so with newer head choices this will be easier / more newbie friendly. - Expect to budget from 3000-5000L for the head... quality is NOT related to price, demo as many as you can stand to demo before buying in because once you're "on the inside of the bubble" it's kinda pricey to switch choices... Since that skin you bought is old, it might not look good on any mesh body or head... no idea as I'm not familiar with it... and if that's the case... you'll need to also budget for a new skin...
  19. I don't know if this is still true... But a quirk in SL 'back in the day' was that every avatar in your camera range got a report from you and had to send one back to you about what you were each downloading... The result being that a way to 'subtlety grief' people is to ramp up your draw distance so they're stuck downloading all kinds of stuff... Is this still true or was it slightly different from that in how it worked? I've seen it often stated for a reason why it's bad to have too high of a draw distance.
  20. Today's pet peeve: My home region keeps crashing / being reset. Multiple times a day for the past month. There are only 5 parcels here, and usually only 1 or 2 people on the region at a time. What gives... Somebody cut it out with the reset button... THIRD time today...
  21. Appropriation is a subject that kinda really ticks me off. I'm multiracial, very very very very mixed - and I don't look like 'any' "race". My very act of breathing is an act of cultural appropriation against somebody... Who's culture should I follow? I don't look like any of them enough to pass somebody's test... In my life I have at times gone 5 feet this way and been abused for not acting 'this enough', and then another five feet and been abused for stealing something from that very culture I was just called out by the first person over... Screw the lot of them, single-minded "this race must act and look like that" people... The nappy curls of my natural hair, is an act of appropriation against one set of people because my tone isn't dark enough, or so a person even lighter toned than I has said to me (on an SL blog no less). The way I walk, the way I talk, the way I hold my glance, the faith I hold, the poverty I came from, the well-off status I now have, that I am too educated, that I was once not educated enough. If my avatar is too dark, is she is too light. Where I live, where I used to live... - I've been attacked over all of it. Because I'm mixed race and I don't fit into anybody's stupid little narrow minded racist box. It's a global world people. Everyday, more and more of you give birth to people like me. We're replacing you narrow minded idiots. And I'm to mad to stop living just because somebody thinks me being alive is appropriating the space of one of my ancestors or one of my inspirations they can't see on my skin. "Appropriation" has become nothing more than a backlash against diversity masking itself as social justice when it's really a call for segregation.
  22. When I lived in Korea, the most popular T-shirt among a lot of friends and people on the street said "My Boyfriend is in the Arny" Being from San Francisco; I always just figured Arny was just a really popular guy who got a lot of action in the barracks. (splitting the humor post I made apart from the rant one that follows)
