And humans actually interract and spend money...bots just stand there looking suspicious... AmyNevilly you misundertood my post. I have no interest in increase traffic on my land. I use bots exclusively to show off the outfits and avatars in my store, and I make the bots speak with customers about good and services. I have used humans as models, but I used to pay a lot more than 1L per hour -- an expensive experience.

How do you know these bots boost traffic? As someone pointed out, Scripts Agents are totally legal in Second Life, as they do not are taken in consideration when calculating traffic. So the bots you´ve seen may be or not bots that boost traffic. Yes, I know that many use bots to boost traffic, and it is not good! I have myself 5 bots that are all registered as Scripted Agents. I use them as a models in my store. They also are able to talk in IM, asnwering questions regarding to my store goods and policies. I have once made a machinima about bots:

Yes, it wasn´t in the list, but there is an update to include your graphic card. Have a look at it HERE. Actually there are 6 new graphic card on the market since I posted that chart. Learn more about them HERE. -
[VIDEO] Make Second Life Behave Better in the Background
Steve Beck commented on Torley Linden's blog entry in Tips and Tricks
Great vid Torley! Is it still ´-multiple´ at the end of the SL shortcut for multiple Viewers? With the Second Life 2.5.2 it is what I see "C:\Program Files (x86)\SecondLifeViewer2\SecondLife.exe" --set InstallLanguage en", so it would be "C:\Program Files (x86)\SecondLifeViewer2\SecondLife.exe" --set InstallLanguage en -multiple", eh? -
Hi Masta! I followed your advice on build and scripts, however after disabling scripts some of my scripted objects stopped to work, so I enabled it just for the group. How about Objects Entry? What´d be the best setup for this? Thanks!

Laetizia...I´d not say it is a success. This person is taking the time to rezz these boxes for months now. I infer that this person´s life is very boring, as he/she has nothing better to do. As Dante pointed out he/she may have something against someone in the adjacent SIM.
-
Dante...the griefer in question is not a hacker, but just a fool. I know very well this script -- it started with Sponge Bob textures, then people added some more of them. As I said all one has to do is to rezz this box -- even a monkey can do that, with some training a dog can do the same. Another point is that this person doesn´t know me at all. He/she rezz the box in an adjacent SIM, and use many alts. The last one I reported to LL had Payment info used, so our griefer has indentified himself to LL at some point through Paypal or credit card. Now LL has to notice this detail and track our griefer down, tough I don´t believe they will pay attention to that.
-
Yes, the images contain some porn material. I have reported the same griefer so many times, but unfortunately [apparently] nothing has been done so far.
-
As I pointed out to Rolig, I don´t have difficulties to find the source of the particles, but thank you for your help.
-
Thank you for clarifying the issue server vs client effects! I don´t have so much difficult to figure out where the box which emits the particles is as I have a quite porwerful machine, tough this griefer has made SL to crash on the other day.
-
Actually the griefer has been doing it for months. I took this land in January 2011, and I was prevented from building my store for several weeks. I have already made many ARs to LL, but up to now nothing has being done. On the other day, the griefer changed from alt to alt several times, I have reported as many as 4 alts at once. The griefer actually rezz his/her box in an adjacent SIM, but the particles go across many SIMs.
-
Griefing Attack Footage at Second Life is a film made during a griefer action. Basically the griefer rezzed a box, which contain a script that emits sounds and particles (textures). The main problem with this kind of attack is that the box emits too many particles using too much server resouces, causing crashes in some SIMs. The griefer was reported to Linden Lab.

Best Computers and/or Graphic Cards for Filming
Steve Beck replied to Lexie Linden's topic in Machinima Forum
I have posted above an hierarchy chart for CPU, and Graphic Cards for Filming. Obviously it is for reference only, as difference set ups may behave differently. On the Graphic Cards chart, a twin HD 4850 may performance in terms of FPS like a HD 5870 or a HD 6950, and a twin HD 4870 is compared with a HD 5970. However both HD 4850 and HD 4870 support DirectX 10.1, and Shader Model 4.1, while both HD 5870 and HD 6950 support DirectX 11, and Shader Model 5.0, which may make some difference while filming. I am not really sure what DirectX Second Life supports. I use a single HD 5870 for machinima, and I am quite happy with the results. As a sample I leave this vid I made some ago while playing with some SL shadows. For a HD version of it click . -

Hi Cinnamon, Thank you for your help!

I have bought 9568 sq m land in mainland for my group. Is it correct to say that my tier level is USD 40.00/ month, as it is 8192 + 512 + 10% to the group? Do I have to change anything in the group and/or update Tier in the web site? I will pay tiers all by myself. Thank you!

Hey Torley! Great Tip for machinamakers! That´d be cool for dramatic effects! That link from the Wiki goes to Second Life 2.1.2 (215879) Dec 2 2010 11:19:36 (Second Life Developer), wich isn´t the same you have downloaded. I think one should get the Second_Life_2-4-0-215872_ProjectViewer-Mesh_Setup.exe to make it works. To get it one has to click on one of the Old Builds links below, or click HERE. As for the trivia, I leave below my educated guess: Mass Effect Call Of Duty Fallout Metro 2033 Apocalypse Esoterica -
@ Cinnamon.Lohner My ISP measures it in Gigabytes, not in bits, but then they managed to have the worst, and the most expensive Internet connection in the face of Gods Earth, and yes, they do limit consumption. Thank you for the explanation! It helps a lot! @ Darien Caldwell Thank you for the explanation! It helps a lot! @ nelly Ishtari Thank you! It was the kind of information I was looking for. Tough SL sessions are not the same for everyone, as a result of so many factors, like Cinnamon and Darien pointed out, your numbers gave me an idea of what happens in terms of bandwidth consumption in SL. I have been with my actual ISP for the past 2 years, but I have never had a warning from them concerning to bandwidth consumption. Last month it was reported I have a bandwidth consumption of 120GB. This month I have reached 30GB in the middle of the month. So, I have ordered a new ISP service that has no bandwidth comsuption limit. Thank you all!
-
I should have mentioned I was referring to bandwidth.
-
Yes, I know it depends on several factors like: 1- If you are (or not) on an empty SIM with no objects around; 2- If the avatar has (or not) a lot of attachments; 3- If the avatar is wearing clothes, or if at an Adult SIM it is naked; 4- If the avatar is alone, or there are other avatars around. 5- Etc! So, what basically I want to know is not the exact Gigabyte, but the average, perhaps someone could establish a minimum and a maximum consumption. Anyone?
