  2. Linden Lab recently made changes to its payments processor so your issue may be related to that. Refer https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Featured-News/Update-Your-Second-Life-Payment-Info-Today/ba-p/2966060 Did you get an email on those lines and not update? It's possible the new payments processor was checking your card details. Even if you did update as requested, $1 is taken but repaid.
  3. Greetings Maddy! I haven't gone away, just not around as much!
  4. That is simply because no upperlight homes were avaialble at the time you checked. However, the good news is that one may become available at any time as residents abandon or change homes. Keep checking regularly and hopefully an upperskylight home will eventually be there to select. So, while you can choose any of the various types of homes within a theme subject to availability, what you can't choose is where the home is located, that is random. Remember that although a home may appear empty, it could be owned by a resident who isn't using it. Many premium members took homes because they were entitled to it as part of their membership although they may never have lived there or perhaps have now moved on but retained the Linden home, so the homes seem empty. Personally, as long as I am in SL, I'll keep my Linden home even if I move on to a larger property, as it's in a lovely position beside the sea and the chances of getting such a good location again are remote.
  5. Uninstall Second Life from your computer. Go to http://secondlife.com/support/downloads/ and download the latest Second Life Viewer for Windows (default screen) or click the Mac or Linux versions if applicable. Install the viewer you've just downloaded. If you still have issues logging in, start a new thread on Answers: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Answers/qac-p/Answers
  6. Thanks Tari! I did not know about this but have just completed a Note of Congratulations. :smileyhappy:
  7. Great news Tari! It is just a bit of fun and good to hear your kids think it's cool! As Dillon said, we can all enjoy the wonderful images as NASA releases them.
  8. That's great Coby! VIPs..I like that! :matte-motes-big-grin: Well, that's two of us anyway, I'm sure there must be more. This photo was taken yesterday. Looking forward to seeing ones from today.
  9. For those who don't already know, NASA's New Horizons spacecraft will reach its closest approach to Pluto in a few minutes time, the last of the nine 'classical' planets to be visited by such a mission. Already, we have seen some fantastic images of Pluto and Charon. Check them out at http://pluto.jhuapl.edu/ I have only seen Pluto a couple of times through large telescopes, once when it was still inside Neptune's orbit in the late 1990s and again a couple of years later when passing outside once again. Although just a small faint dot indistinguishable from background stars requiring a very detailed star map to locate, it was good to be able to complete my observing list of all the planets, the rest being very easy to find and see. It doesn't feel like 10 years since I put my name down to be included on the CD inside the spacecraft but it was indeed 2005. I'm pretty sure Madelaine has her name on it too and probably Dillon and Celestial as well. Anyone else? Give it a wave as we fly by!

Wow! Imagine that..a high end Nvidia card released May 2015 beats an entry level AMD card released in 2011..whatever next!
  11. Forgot one thing...check your spam folder just in case LL's missing emails are ending up there. By the way, when you say, "I requested a new password", are you requesting a new password via a guest account already or while logged in with another account?
  12. Hi Carinja, There is nothing we can do except to point you in the right direction with Support. As your password is needed to log in here and post a question, I assume you're talking about an alt account. Unless you have Premium membership on that account, in which case you can use Live Chat, you will have to submit a ticket using a guest account. Open the main Second Life Home page and make sure you are not logged in under any other account. If you are automatically logged in on another account, log off. Now select the Help Menu > Contact Support then on the next page click Submit a Support case. Note it asks you to provide an email account for Support to contact you so you can insert your correct/new email address here. Use Account > login issues, provide your avatar name and describe what has happened and request a new password. You will no doubt be asked for the answer to the security question you put down when setting up that account before being issued with a new Password. Be prepared to wait a while.

Most of the cognoscenti also recognise people who don't engage their brains before typing replies. Last names for new residents were discarded years ago so Feelynx Lavender could not be a brand new alt. In fact, she started in SL in 2010. Perhaps you should read her profile.
  14. Thanks Maddy. I'm not a fan of catching the early waning Moon either! Some stunning shots of yours and what a beautiful view you have from your home. My horizons are not so good.
  15. I see what you mean! :smileyvery-happy:
  16. Well it's not an inspirational meme as with Karen's thread but it is an inspirational sight so if it's clear wherever you are when twilight falls, go out an look to the west. I took this photo of the waxing cescent Moon and Venus a few minutes ago from my home.
  17. This is an issue that has been going on for years as many will testify to. Luc Starsider opened a JIRA on this as far back as 2010. It's a problem I'm resigned to thinking will never be solved. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-7129 If I'm online and receive a notification with notecard I can usually open it, in fact always I think. Delays in receipt of the notification however, such as not logging in for a few days seem to exacerbate the issue.
  18. Hi Lynn, You're posting on a very old thread. Probably would have been better to open a new thread so more people can read it and perhaps help and you can of course still do this. Only people who contributed to this old thread will see this. However, let's try and help. Can you please post details of your computer system, especially the graphics card (make and model within the series) as it's difficult to offer any solution without this information. Also, please explain what you mean by "unable to sign on". What happens when you try and does any message appear on screen?
  19. It's not something we can answer as nobody on Answers has access to your account.. You should contact Billing Support either by telephone or support case. Refer to this link. https://support.secondlife.com/billing-support/
  20. Unscheduled Maintenance Posted by Status Desk on August 6th, 2014 at 07:11 am PDT [Posted 07:09 AM PDT, 06 August 2014] We are currently undergoing unscheduled maintenance on some of our primary systems. During this maintenance, some users may be unable to log in or may be logged out, and group chats may fail. Please refrain from rezzing no-copy objects and making L$ transactions until the all clear is given. Hopefully LL will complete the maintenance quickly.
  21. Singularity is a popular viewer so glad you like it and that it works for you. The AMD 6310 has OpenGL 4.1 support [shadows (Advanced LIghting) requires 3.0] so you should be fine in that respect but you may have to go into Ultra graphics mode to make it selectable. This can occur with some AMD cards where Advanced Lighting is not accessible until you move the slider to the highest Ultra graphics setting. You can easily check by moving though the graphics settings until it becomes selectable. However, given your laptop specs, it's highly unlikely you can run your laptop in Ultra graphics mode for more than a few seconds before it slows the application to an unusable crawl, even using Singularity. It really needs a decent graphics card. Advanced Lighting demands an even higher spec graphics card. By all means try but it will likely bring your laptop to a total freeze.
  22. Hi Sephina, Here is a Singularity tutorial teaching the basics, which I hope will help your friend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yd2ibwcB__g If she is experiencing any bugs, Singularity has an Issue Tracker here: http://code.google.com/p/singularity-viewer/issues/list?can=2&q=&sort=-opened&colspec=ID Type Status Priority Stars Milestone Owner Summary Opened Modified (the entire link won't show as one so highlight/copy/paste the two lines) I've set the Issue Tracker link so it shows the latest issues first for easy use. I use Black Dragon, not Singularity, so unfortunately can't really help your friend inworld. If you search the Forum and Answers, you should find many threads with links to free stuff in SL.
  23. In addition to what Rolig said, remember that just because a home looks empty (peering through the windows) and available doesn't mean it is. There are numerous homes all over the Linden Home contiments that lie empty but are owned by Premium members who have one because they are entitled to it and it's free (maybe they rent elsewhere or their land holdings allow an extra 512 s.m. without extra land fees). Stepping on to the patio and checking About Land from the World Menu will show ownership. Meadowbrook homes are by far the most popular so vastly more exist than with other themes. That improves your chances of a Plumtree home becoming available but on the other hand, you may have to act quickly if it does.
  24. Sounds like it has to do with your computer rather than SL, either your firewall (which you say is ok) or your anti-virus program. Firewall Issues: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539 Anti-Virus Issues: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/antivirus_whitelisting
  25. You don't have to accept the default login location. You can login at your Home location or a location of your choice either. Here's how: Exit Second Life and log in at your destination You can set your preferences so that you can choose your login location, and then enter your destination so you appear there when you log in again. To set your login location: Choose Me > Preferences. Click the General tab. Under Start location, choose Show on login. Click OK. Choose Me > Exit Second Life to log out. Then, start the Second Life Viewer again, and: In the login screen, under Start at, choose <Type region name>. Enter the name of the region where you want to go; for example, Pooley Click Log In. Now you will log in at the region you entered. To get out of your lift, I would suggest you use the lag free Linden water sim Smith to log into although the LInden sim Pooley will do either.. This is an excerpt from this Knowledge Base article: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Landmarks-teleporting-and-SLurls/ta-p/700123 This page also shows you how to create a Home location as well as other useful information.
