  1. What error messages are you seeing when trying to log in using other computers? There is a Knowledge Base article on login failures here: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Login-failure/ta-p/700109 Are you seeing any of those error messages and if so, which one? If you have to ask for help from Linden Lab, this is one of the questions on the form anyway. Have you tried logging in to another region in Second Life? That may very well work. Avatar ghosting is a thing of the past thanks to Marigold Devin so it's highly unlikely to be that preventing you log in. A rare issue but has happened is an invalid character in a group tag you have activated. Assuming you can recall whcih group is activated, that can be sorted by creating an alt and asking the group owner to remove your main avatar from the group (Linden Lab can also do this). We really need more information to help so please use Options > Edit to edit your post and add requested details. Also, do as Alwin said and submit a ticket. If you find you can can log in successfully before Support gets around to dealing with your ticket, which could take ages, you can cancel it.
  2. Thanks Whirly...noted. So is Nvidia doing the same thing with its equivalent Nvidia Experience when installing Nvidia drivers? I see a number of OEMs are now installing Raptr as standard on new machines. Why is Second Life so badly affected?
  3. Just a warning when updating AMD drivers. Seems a program called Raptr plays.tv is now installing itself with the drivers masquerading as AMD Gaming Evolved on the AMD installer. It is mentioned in the default Express option which most people choose. It never struck me that this would have such a detrimental effect on my Second Life experience, decimating performance. After installing the new catalyst 15.7.1 on the 25th March, I noticed poorer performance in SL and thought it must be the driver or my card, an old one, failing. Tonight, when experiencing severe lag in a sim I shouldn't be and the computer running very noisily, I checked Task Manager and discovered plays_ep64.exe hogging a huge amount of resources. Goggle search revealed this to be Raptr plays.tv. I uninstalled it (need to uninstall Raptr and plays.tv from Control Panel) and SL is now running much smoother and so is the computer. Just chatted to a DJ friend who said he couldn't even log in to SL with it installed and he had to uninstall it. I assume I could have just disabled it from running but as I don't need AMD Gaming Evolved I completely uninstalled it. If you don't want it, choose the Custom install option and untick it. http://support.plays.tv/support/solutions/articles/5000541606-why-was-amd-gaming-evolved-installed-o...
  4. Oddly, there are some Maddy, e.g. ASUS Laptop: - intel i7-3630QM (with Intel HD4000 integrated graphics) - GeForce 610M dedicated graphics with 2GB ram - 8GM DDR3 RAM - 1TB HDD In overall terms as you say Maddy but the 610M has slightly better OpenGL performance than the Intel HD4000 (4.5 to 4.0) and Second LIfe runs on Open GL. Would that just about tip the balance in its favour with Second Life, especially if it is the 2GB 610M?
  5. The issue is with Nvidia Optimus not switching on the card when opening Second Life. This has certainly been a problem with SL residents using Nvidia cards in the past. Are you using the latest driver from Nvidia, not your laptop manufacturer's driver? Use the Nvidia 'auto detect your gpu' feature on its website and follow the instructions to update the driver. If you have updated the driver and Optimus still won't switch to the Nvidia card when opening Second Life, follow the tutorial on this website: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/infraworks-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-force-your-laptop-to-Run-with-Graphics-Processor-vs-the-default-Integrated-Graphics-for-InfraWorks.html
  6. You're more likely to get help for this issue on the Animation Forum: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Animation-Forum/bd-p/Animation
  7. Good idea Alwin. I didn't think of that!
  8. Just a thought, would pammytg14 and your alt have common friends in SL who may recall the forgotten name? Another idea, can you recall any groups your alt was a member of? If so, perhaps running down the names of group members may trigger your memory when you see the name appear.
  9. Did you log inworld with the forgotten username? If so, it should be easy to trace this on your computer. When you log in, a folder in that name is created in AppData as below: Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 Local Disk C: > Users > Username > AppData > Roaming > SecondLife (or whatever viewer you're using) I'm not sure on Windows 10 but think it's the same route. The official way is as stated below and as mentioned in the box, this seems to be what is happening to you, the system is only able to give you the username for the first account created with that email address. Perhaps Support can help if you submit a ticket. What to do if you forget your Second Life username The username you created during registration is required to login to the Second Life® virtual world. If you forget your username, you can retrieve it: From your welcome email From the Second Life website Note: If you forgot which email address you used when you registered, you can find out on the Contact Information page. You must have either your username or email address to recover your account credentials. Retrieve your name from your welcome email You provided an email address to register your account. A welcome email containing the Second Life username you created was sent to this address. To locate the email: Log into your email account and search your archives for "second life". Look for an email with your username in the subject line: "Welcome to Second Life, YOUR NAME!" Retrieve your name from the Second Life website Warning: If you registered multiple Second Life accounts with the same email address, you will be able to retrieve the username of only your first account. This is a known system limitation. Before you ever have to use this form, write down your usernames somewhere you'll remember! If you have forgotten your username or password: Click Login on the Second Life website. Click Forgot your login information? Under Forgot Your Name? enter your email address. Click Forgot Account Name. Your Second Life name will be sent to you shortly.
  10. From what I can see, I think these are KC Couture Yoshee ribbon boots for Maitreya, Slink, Belleza and Eve mesh feet. If you go to KC inworld, the vendor is just inside the entrance or you can buy them on Marketplace.
  11. Well, if you haven't disabled offline notifications in your CyberWulf1 Heart account, just send an IM to it from your alt and see which email account it turns up in. From what you say though in not seeing any previous notifications in your various email accounts, perhaps you have disabled offline messages. You could just try recovering your password using the most likely email address and if that is said to be incorrect, move on to the next. I don't know how many attempts Linden Lab allows before they stop further ones. In that case, you will have to submit a support ticket and explain the situation to Linden Lab or perhaps just do that in the first place rather than let them think someone is trying to hack the account. EDIT: You do know the answer to your account security question I hope!

    mesh avatar

As Rolig said, no you won't have to but the new mesh bodies are so much better than the classic avatar and the range of fitmesh clothing and shoes for the various bodies is now huge. After nine years in SL, I took the plunge last year and have not regretted it at all. Mesh heads followed mesh bodies but I have yet to go down that route although I'm trying demos. It's trickier than changing bodies. If you do decide to go the mesh route, read Daria's Mesh Body Addicts website. Tons of information there including comparisons, tutorials, fashion etc. http://meshbodyaddicts.com/
  13. Linden Lab has been quietly removing some old items from inventory and when asked why, say the items were in breach of the current TOS. However, what you are missing do not seem like the ones being removed. Rather than just relogging, have you tried clearing the cache, logging in to a quiet area and allowing your inventory to repopulate. If still missing after that, you will need to submit a support ticket under Technical Questions > Inventory if you have Premium membership. It asks for file names but if misisng, that may not be possible so give as much information as you can.
  14. Most likely a graphics card issue, perhaps it's struggling with the intensive 3D graphics SL uses which isn't demanded by the other programs you use or maybe you just need to update the driver from the GPU manufacturer's website. You haven't posted any details of your set up so if a driver update doesn't fix the problem, edit your post to add these details. Here is a link to a useful free tool to monitor your graphics card. It will tell you if your card is struggling and overheating: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/
  15. Not silly at all. Most of us had problems with this at first but Suella Ember posted this great tutorial. Hope it helps. https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Your-Avatar/How-to-create-a-cool-forum-avatar-badge/td-p/707025
  16. I can only find one other instance of this happening and in that case, the culprit was the Phoenix viewer or at least perhaps parts of it left over from a previous install causing problems. The LL viewer worked fine for the OP but she wanted to use Phoenix. Her final solution was somewhat drastic but it's unliikely you need to go that far. https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Shopping/No-Content-when-I-go-to-open-a-box/qaq-p/698404 You don't say what viewer you are using but if Firestorm, that may be the cause as of course it developed from Phoenix. Try the LL viewer and if it works fine and you can open and access the contents of boxes, you need to complete a clean install of FS so refer to: http://www.firestormviewer.org/ttt-clean-install-the-easy-way/
  17. Strix6, your graphics card is most likely the reason for you crashing. The Nvidia Quadro is not designed for intensive 3D rendering programs like SL and Linden Lab includes the comment below on its System Requirements page: https://secondlife.com/support/system-requirements/ Excerpt: The following cards have not been tested with Second Life, and compatibility is not certain: NVIDIA cards that report as Quadro ATI cards that report as RADEON IGP or RADEON XPRESS ATI cards that report as FireGL ATI cards that report as FireMV Some users have used Nvidia Quadro cards successfully but others have had issues.
  18. Hi Myfanwy, Go to this page and click Get Your Home Now. https://secondlife.com/land/lindenhomes/member.php Remember not all types of homes are always available so you may need to wait until what you want is abandoned by someone else.
  19. I've completely switched over to a mesh body so only buy mesh clothes and mesh appliers now. A number of other residents I know do likewise. It would be a rare occasion that I would wear system clothes from my inventory unless it's to see how I looked years ago :smileylol:. I still enjoy shopping inworld but if a shop only stocks system clothes I tend to walk out. I'd love if the creators of some system layers I own which have great textures were remade as mesh appliers and I'd happily buy them again.
  20. Niran's Black Dragon also has an option to use a pie menu [interface>Use right-click pie menu instead of dropdowns].
  21. Did you take one of the free Linden Homes with your Premium membership? If downgrading to Basic, you must abandon it first.
  22. I've noticed this occurs occasionally with my Maitreya Lara Hud too and detaching/reattaching or relogging has always fixed it. The problem with rezzing a new HUD is that you will lose any saved Alpha and Layer slots.
  23. By 'paid account' I assume you mean you are a Premium member and therefore entitled to use Live Chat. https://support.secondlife.com/start-chat/ Note the opening hours for Live Chat. PS. You may get more replies here if you explain exactly what is happening when you try to login, including any onscreen messages and at what point the login failure occurs.
  24. Well, you could 'Abuse Report' as Maddy has informed you but whether Linden Lab Support would do anything about threats is a moot point and you will will never hear back from them anyway as to what if any action was taken. Would it not be better to just block/mute this person who then can no longer converse with you via IM or chat or send you anything? Blocking has the added benefit of rendering the person invisible (apart from name tag) so you never have to even look at him/her ever again should your paths cross in the future. After 9 years in SL, I have a long list of muted residents, 99.9% of whom I can't recall what they said or did and none ever bothered me again because I didn't let them. https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Blocking/ta-p/700121
  25. Assuming you mean the control panel on your Linden Home which, when you click it, is not opening the web page allowing you to make changes, then contact Linden Lab Support who will be able to sort this out for you. Getting help As a premium account holder, you're eligible for live chat and ticket support from the Support Portal. If you need support for your Linden Home: Go to the Support Portal and choose Submit a Support Case. Select Land and Region from the first dropdown menu. Select Linden Home Issues from the second dropdown menu. Fill out the required fields; make sure to include as much relevant information as possible when describing your issue. Click Submit to submit your ticket.
