  1. So does playing Candy Crush. It is more of a score than winning something though
  2. 1: This is definitely true. In the past LL wouldn't let you let your place have the word casino in it. Wonder if that has changed also. 2: The answer is no they can't. Gambling laws covers "A thing of value" So any exchange would not be legal. In Japan gambling is illegal ... however Pachinko is a huge industry there. What they do is they are allowed to win prizes off of Pachinko games and basically they go across the street and it is sold back. Basically cashing in a teddy bear instead of poker chips. BUT most laws and definitely law in the us cover that loophole by including "a thing of value". Why Japan bothers having non gambling laws? I dunno.
  3. Her mentality goes to how some southern states were in the past a century ago or so where they had playing cards and dice illegal because they MIGHT gamble with them. She is completely thought police minded.
  4. OMG how are you even in SL? You must also think people in adult sims turn into sex workers and strippers in RL.
  5. A good prohibition erra speak easy looking place should look far more ghetto and sketchy which can be fun if you do it right.
  6. Answer ... yes. It has been that way in SL. As long as those tokens aren't used to cash out to linden or real dollars. This is how video arcades worked in the 80s and 90s. you go you pay you play. Just don't try a loophole system is all. Keep in mind most gambling laws include the term "or thing of value". So you can't turn the tokens into say a prim chair or something. Why people would want to pay for credits ... I dunno. there is some fun but things like slots are non existent fun if money isn't involved so don't see the point. you are just pulling a handle and looking at flashy lights. I find slots borring in real casinos even though they are very popular.
  7. Gambling addicts actually go somewhere to gamble with something. They can go to a RL game store and buy a video poker game now. or get an app on their phone. There is no return it isn't remotely gambling.
  8. Gambling addiction is about risking actual money to win actual money. It is absurd to pay for fake money but there are app games that do this ... why I dunno it is equally pointless. But the damage is only done when those that don't have self control actually gambling. If there is no winning of money there is no gambling. But I Do find paying for credits to be absurd. I see it as buying video game tokens at an arcade but don't see why people would buy that much ... they can go elsewhere to play skill games instead.
  9. ummm that is because of pedophiles. Come on now. OMG
  10. Ummm you clearly never been to a casino. This place looked kind of carribean like. trees, stone tiling unique circular design and arches. plants a couple fountains etc. .... a depressing casino is dark lights, wall to wall slots, obnoxious carpets super long lines of slot machines. I say they could have consulted with some good game designers. The blackjack plays slow, the slots are cludgy. and omg so primmy insanely primy. They did an old school cheap approach hiding textures in the center pillar to keep textures rezzed when they should be hidden on or under the games. I know a lot of game designers and could probably mention a good dozen that can done a lot better on the games.
  11. They can be gotten for free daily but you can't sell them or use them for anything .... curently. So they have no value. Things of value allow you to turn it into pizza and tacos in time. Currently these fail the pizza and taco test
  12. EDIT: never mind. I just had to make the invisible part of the brick thicker I had these out years ago and just got them out again. They use to work fine. It is basically composed of two prims so if you collide with it from underneath they shrink and go phantom. the script is in a child prim (the visible bottom part of the brick) with an invisible primary prim on top so if you land on top of it, it wouldn't "break". It worked roughly 8 years ago but now when I collide with the any if it the script is triggered. Any ideas how I might be able to get this to work again? default { state_entry() { } collision_start(integer total_number) { // Bust Brick llPlaySound("b24f1c6f-0dd4-99dc-3c69-933f46c6844c",9); llSetLinkPrimitiveParamsFast(1,[PRIM_SIZE,<0.01,0.01,0.01>]); llSetLinkPrimitiveParamsFast(2,[PRIM_SIZE,<0.01,0.01,0.01>]); llSetPrimitiveParams([PRIM_PHANTOM, TRUE]); llSetAlpha(0.0, ALL_SIDES); // Sleep llSleep(90); // Reform Brick llSetAlpha(1.0, ALL_SIDES); llSetPrimitiveParams([PRIM_PHANTOM, FALSE]); llSetLinkPrimitiveParamsFast(1,[PRIM_SIZE,<1.6,1.07742,.14081>]); llSetLinkPrimitiveParamsFast(2,[PRIM_SIZE,<1.5,1,1>]); } }
  13. Great Idea! I wasn't sure how one gets into that but I see a suggest location thing. I will give that a shot after I get the last area more set up.
  14. I became active again in SL about a year and a half ago. I was away for a good while and most of my contacts from the past are retired or focased on certain things. I use to have the biggest in world game store in SL. Currently I have a small store with a few games by other creators but the bulk of my land is focused on people playing games of various types. Boardgames, video games, card games, party games RPGs etc. My issue is I am trying to get exposure again. I am trying to find good ways to promote without spending a lot since it is more a passion project than anything else. I am trying to find good ways to do this. Events ... sure but I would need people to host games and game nights for that. LL charges these days which is unfortunately but perhaps necessary. In the old days LL would reward people for running events. Maybe cross promotion ideas? I use voodoo sploders but I am fairly sure most of those people are bots. Just looking for ideas to get the ball rolling without spending a lot. I mean I spend a lot on land as it is now.
  15. I haven't posted an event in I dunno a decade maybe ... But when I tried to post one the following error message popped up. Community: Events Please correct the following: This service is not currently available. Please try again later. It didn't highlight anything specific. But it was set for a weekly repeating event. Not sure if the issue is events are having issues in general or maybe it is the repeating event that is. It really doesn't indicate anything. Here is what I was trying to post. Any idea what the issue might be?
  16. The SL version of Catan is a marvel of scripting when it was first made when scripting was far more limited. If it was made today it would be 225 les prims and 240 less scripts. When it was made it was an impressive task. If it was made today it would come off as absurd and lazy. It was made at a time when scripting couldn’t affect other connected prims. Currently it is just a fun interesting SL museum piece. A ton of gateway level games would work great in SL. Things like carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, and Splendor would all work just as well. A good scripter could make it just as good as an app based version. When SL introduced experience features they vastly improved the potential for board games in SL. In the past you would have to click in a game dig for a hud attach it etc. now you can just sit down at the game, the hud appears on automatically and you are off and running. i would say it is the exact opposite of what you suggest. Party games are better in person. They might work ok in SL if everyone happens to have a mic but if it doesn’t something like cards against humanity would be pretty lame if played silent because it needs that shared laughter. But a well crafted boardgame in SL can translate nearly one to one. Boardgames will always be better in person of course because of the shared experience … but in SL it would at least be better than say playing an app. Having avatars present enhances the experience more than just a voice or just text.
  17. Super familiar with Boardgame Geek. I technically have a collection of over 1200 board games .. though I have a board game store in RL and it is my board game library for the store. If it was just mine alone it would probably drop down to 800. It sounds like you already passed the visiting Ikea for shelving stage in your gaming career hahaha. With some improvements in SL with experiences and the like I honestly say that SL would be more on par with platforms like boardgame arena and in some cases like with Engarde improves upon it a bit. Direct conversions without licensing can be problematic for sure. Some can get away with being inspired by. Legally speaking people can do versions of monopoly (ew monopoly I know). A company called late for sky does all kinds of monopoly type games and they were sued by hasbro but won. Mostly because of using opoly at the end. It wasn't over game play. But I think there is room for inspired by games. If I track down a good scripter that isn't busy with skill games I have a few in mind to get the ball rolling. I recommend you check out a game called Nova Relic. If you are familiar with a lot of two player modern board games you might find this one very familiar. For something with a tad more original check out Galaxy War. I play this one frequently in SL just because it has some good solo options.
  18. This is true. However there are at least two licensed games in SL. Khet also known as Lazer chess is licensed and En Garde is also licensed. I can find out the details on how that happens and costs. I also have a RL game store and contacts in the boardgame industry. I can explore some options for that and make some inquiries.
  19. There are a number of board and card games in SL ... But only a very small handful are innovative or have inspiration for more modern games. To be frank ... most of the games in SL pretty much are copies or inspired by games between 5000 BC and the 1960s. I was curious how many modern board game fans are out there. I was considering trying to bring some more games with more modern ideas to SL if I can find scripters to help pull it off. Some games of note in SL that are more modern ... There is an inspired by version of Catan in SL but it is quite old. massively primmy (255 prims) and most of the prims have scripts in it. It was created at a time when scripting was much more limited. En Garde recently returned to SL, which is a Reinier Knizia game. The most modern game is Nova Relic which is inspired by the RL game Onitama.
  20. I just finished the ground level of a major remodel of Celestial Game Tower. We tried having things in separate builds but combined them all into one building. It is all ready for everyone to have game night with their friends with. There are very few more modern board type games out there ... but if you are interested in board gaming ... we hope to change that in Second Life. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Taesot/79/94/92 We are gearing up to have some freeplay multiplayer games where you can win later on ranging from simple games to more strategic games like chess tournaments and the like. But we need sponsors before we can tackle that. We do have a number of freeplay solo games where you can win money. This is an ongoing contest. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: These are free to play. There is no direct or indirect way to pay to play. These are strictly used to generate traffic. Below is LL's policy on freeplay games. We try to be transparent to avoid confusion. Are “freeplay” games in Second Life subject to the Skill Gaming Policy? Freeplay games, in which the sole payment required or permitted is a nominal Linden Dollar payment for the sole purpose of triggering gameplay and is immediately and automatically refunded without conditions of any kind, are not within the scope of the Skill Gaming Policy. What is the max amount my players can earn while playing a freeplay Skill Game? A player can earn up to L$100 (max amount) during one play through of a freeplay Skill Game.
  21. I think I found a work around. Basically the alignment doesn't seem to stick after you leave the area. So I first aligned the textures. THEN I selected the textures one by one and in the menu hit enter in some of the number boxes as if I were setting it manually. That seemed to do the trick. I am guessing the alignment might only be happening on the viewer side. So setting them again manually tells the server how that texture is suppose to be set.
  22. Question: did you need the land for land impact reason ... or to expand into reasons. I just ask because I have a zombie city area I am building and I am using experience teleporters to effectively make the city a LOT bigger than the size of the land I am using by using collision teleporters. So you can sorta almost seamlessly double or triple or quadruple etc the space you are using.
