  1. But that doesn't make much of a difference for making mesh or not. You can make fantasy stuff or use non-photo textures for mesh as well.
  2. I am looking for a creator who can make nice mesh cars. We have a truly fantastic little sculpte 1920s car made just for our sim, but unfortunately its builder has vanished. So, if you are interested in making nice common 1920s car(s), contact me.
  3. Yes but 3ds Max is very expensive and so are many other mesh programms. And the ones I tried (free ones) were too complicated for me, and I've been building with prims for 4 years. So if it wasn't for Mesh Studio, I'd probably still not be building any mesh stuff and be very upset about it. LL should incooperate MS into its viewer. Bring the joy of making mesh to everyone, for free.
  4. Well technically you're right because SL doesn't offer users the ability to easily make mesh.... luckily some smart SL USERS do I hope LL has a chat with these smart LL users and offers them a big pile of money so they can add this mesh building options to their viewer! But on the other hand, yes, once you find the mesh builder, it becomes easier Takes only seconds to turn prims to mesh. But for soft and flowing objects, you still need to learn brain exploding software.
  5. One of the (many) ideas for sims I have is a nice old fashioned historical town. Nothing special, just a church, a pub, a corner shop and some houses around a square. A quiet place, with birds and fields etc. Just nice to live. But of course with me, it would be a town from the past.
  6. I think this is a good moment to show off some mesh stuff made with an inworld mesh builder If you can build with prims, you can make mesh.
  7. Yes and no. I agree that mesh is actually very difficult if you don't have the right tools, I forgot about that for a moment. So there is a steep learning curve, but I feel that simply using the viewer is a steep learning curve as well and one that needs solving a lot more. Anyway, when mesh came I panicked because all the 3d software out there made my brain explode, seriously, with bits coming out of my ears and so on. But then I found an inworld mesh creator and I've been meshing like mad since then. I'm meshing all of 1920s Berlin. My mesh tool turns normal prims into mesh, I build with the normal prims, click 'mesh' and within seconds I have a doa file I can upload. Very easy! Of course it is not good that if you want to build mesh you need to go learn complicated software or spend money on less complicated software or inworld mesh tools. If someone brilliant can build inworld mesh tools, someone at Linden Lab can do that as well and they should incooperate it into their normal building tools. So you're right, mesh is very complicated unless you find inworld tools or figure out the software. I hope that LL will improve on this and bring mesh creation tools inworld for us all.
  8. Madelaine McMasters wrote: Mesh is the least accessible form of content creation yet devised by LL. So much for enabling creativity. Is it? I found it pretty easy to learn how to make mesh and it has opened up a whole new way of building and being creative for me.
  9. Perrie Juran wrote: For instance, he mentions new sign ups (400,000 a month !?!?!?!) but forgets that he told us that we can't retain them. I think he doesn't forget that, he mentioned before in another interview that this is an issue and he also talks about it in the "new users" part on my blog.
  10. My pleasure, I thought it might be of interest to some
  11. Watch the Drax Files episode about Linden Lab CEO Rod Humble here and read everything that didn't fit in the video here in the full interview ; http://joyardley.wordpress.com/2013/06/03/the-rod-humble-interview/
  12. I very rarely ban people right away, most people get a fair and polite warning and if I'm in the mood I'll enjoy a nice long discussion. Especially as I'm always right. But I am old fashioned and expect to be treated in a civilised manner. So any kind of vulgar language or lack of manners will pretty much kill the chat and I'll ban and mute you.
  13. Things are going well. Not as well as in the beginning (if you only look at the amount of people using SL) but still pretty good, especially for a 10 year old online product. But the future is going to be bright, lots of very interesting projects, improvements and other news in the pipeline.
  14. SCOOP: Rod Humble talks to me about the Oculus Rift and says it is already up and running in Second Life ; http://joyardley.wordpress.com/2013/05/17/rod-humble-oculus-rift-already-in-second-life-want-to-make-it-excellent/

  16. When I set SL to ultra, things look pretty good. Anyway.... lets hope for something bigger... lets hope SL will one day look like this!
  17. Ja hoor natuurlijk help ik graag. Maar alleen "inworld". Dus inloggen, SL eerst even zelf uitproberen, veel rondkijken en dan maar eens een gesprek komen voeren.
  18. It seems that there is no way for any script to count the UUID's of more then 100 people in a region. In short, when I use a rental system, such as the hippo one, it won't count the prims used by more then 100 people. I know this is a luxury problem but all our apartments are almost permanently rented, so just the tenants alone come close to 100 people, especially with their partners. And then we have a dozen or so other people who are allowed to rez in our sim. But because of this a few people can rez what they like and their rent meter won't notice any of those prims. Is there any way LL will ever improve this or another way to get around this issue?
  19. It took a while, but eventually I found someone who could make a low prim blanket for me and with that I could finish my own 2 prim land impact bed THANK YOU Piraiyah Novikov for helping me out. When you get into the bed and click the blanket, it changes shape so you can really sleep under the blanket I can finally get rid of my ugly sculpt bed I made long time ago that was 4 prims. If you're curious, you can see it here and try the bed yourself; http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Old%20Time%20Prims/10/250/754
  20. I don't see a flickr link any more, does LL no longer use the flickr group to pick and share photos?
  21. Firestorm support said; Prefs > Graphics > Hardware, try lowering your Viewer Texture Memory Buffer to about 80% of its current value Trying it now.
  22. I have this problem as well, quite often. VERY annoying and no idea what to do about it.
  23. It has just come a lot closer... http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2013/04/oculus-rift-coming-to-second-life.html
