  1. I'm pleased to report that my situation, at least, has been resolved. The owner of the strait has agreed to open it up to use by all, along with the owner of an adjacent waterway that's needed to complete the path. Diamond, you're right about access to protected waters...so now I've learned about that, and will look out myself should I be in the market again. Now if we can just convince the Lindens to lower one particular sandbar...it's terraformed to a depth of slightly more than a meter, but the landowner (who's the guy who dedicated it to public access from the beginning) says that's as low as he can push it.
  2. I just bought a parcel in a bay connected to the Blake Sea. Spent a not inconsiderable amount of Lindens on it, too. Before buying, I checked carefully to ensure that we could sail to the Blake Sea from there. Unfortunately, I did not realize there were landowners who think that navigable waters can and should be blocked. In boating around the area, I'm discovering a LOT of channels that are covered by security orbs with 20- or even 10-second timeouts. I can't even turn around in those channels, and 10 seconds isn't enough to get clear. This results in my getting TPd home, and then having to go back and pick up my boat: no small nuisance if I've sailed a fair distance away. On top of that, one major landowner/landlord in the area has gone so far as to block the main channel that I was depending on to get out into the Blake Sea. "Oh, that's not for public use, just our guests." They put an invisible ship in the middle of the channel. It's possible to navigate around it...as long as your craft isn't too wide, and you don't need to tack. Otherwise, if you're traveling at any kind of speed (yes, even 5 knots), you collide with it, and are sent crashing into one of the neighbors' parcels. I'm getting so disgusted with this that I'm considering selling the parcel and buying elsewhere. Or simply buying elsewhere, near this one landlord's properties, and putting up something really annoying (but within TOS, of course). There's a landlord nearer to my parcel who has done the right thing: he's set up a strait in a separate parcel and dedicated it for open navigation. Any major landlord who controls access to any significant amount of water that he does not completely own should do the same.
  3. Personally, I won't miss them. I especially won't miss having my Marketplace search results cluttered up with 6 zillion gacha resale items that only vary a tiny bit from each other, or have three or four vendors selling the same things for different prices. I understand why LL is doing this, and I'm sure they wouldn't be if their hands weren't being forced by governments. Don't like it? Complain at the governments banning loot boxes. As for creators selling this way: guess you have to find another way to market your product.
  4. I've been trying to reproduce this bug for the last couple of weeks. For a while, it was failing reliably for me, but it wasn't when I started, and isn't now. All of the crashes I've seen have been with that same stack trace. It's trying to free something that's already been freed in the very last stages of Firestorm shutdown. It's not going to break anything, just be a nuisance. I suspect it's scene-related, or something like that. For those of you who are having it regularly, are you always in the same sim when you log out? Better yet, at the same location, facing the same way?
  5. His standard for giving the bear out was always "you have to teach me something". I keep offering to teach him all about RLV, but he never takes me up on it.
  6. Thank you for being there, for advocating for open source, and for understanding even when we didn't agree. Best of luck wherever you go next, even if it's just a chair by your pond.
  7. Yeah, you're right: either this is incorrect (should be midnight) or else not morning (if they meant noon).
  8. Am I the only one who giggles every time she sees the term Grid Poking Bot?
  9. I expect that the viewer will switch to Vulkan, as the only cross-platform graphics rendering toolkit these days. Oz won't say that's what they're doing, but they're going to have to get off of OpenGL, since Apple has deprecated it. (I'm personally surprised that Apple Silicon versions of macOS still have it, myself.) Going to PBR is a bit bigger lift, since just adding materials took far more work than simply adding it to the render pipeline. Going to a game engine, even more so. (Have you looked at SineSpace? Developing content for it is very different from developing it for SL. Not everyone uses Blender to build things with, especially at first.) I expect we may see PBR at some point in the future, but not a game engine.
  10. I run VSCode on all of my computers: my office Mac and Linux systems, my System76 Linux laptop, and my work Windows machine. It works great across all of those platforms and, more importantly, works the same across them all (plus or minus the Mac's command key vs. Windows and Linux's control key). I looked at Sublime Text once...it didn't look good enough to justify the purchase price. VSCode is free, as are its extensions. Be sure to install the extensions for the languages you use. They bring a lot of the power out where you can get at it.
  11. I use Visual Studio Code with Dal Ghost's LSL-FP extension to do scripting via the "Edit" button Zi mentioned. It has all of the features that VSCode brings to other languages, and is completely cross-platform. Why should we reinvent that wheel?
  12. Yup...am currently wearing her June hair, but while it's nice and close, it's not quite what I'm looking for.
  13. I'm looking for a hairstyle to match this picture I commissioned...and finding hair is something I know little about. Anyone got any suggestions?
  14. How about instead of refraining from posting information, filing bug reports so we can actually get the bugs fixed?
  15. OptimoMaximo and Klytyna, Get a room, you two. This endless back and forth of name-calling and chest-thumping is getting in the way of those of us who are trying to use and understand this feature. Frankly, the level of invective is high enough that I'm surprised the Lindens haven't told you to knock it off. And if either of you actually understand the SL render engine, how about sticking to how that works? (Although I'm still convinced that only five people on the planet understand the SL renderer, and two of them work for LL.)
  16. I'm sorry to say that getting the UUID of the texture of any wearable isn't quite trivially easy, but it's not difficult if yo know where to look...it's let me make Maitreya appliers for myself for los of system clothing I've purchased over the years. This sucks for skin creators in particular, but there's no good way around it. Disabling HUD display of a baked texture is probably something that should be done - I can see no valid use case for it - but don't delude yourselves that it'll stop copybotting in any real sense.
  17. The avatar maker would need to add the ability to set the layer to use one of the bake slots. I would expect that would be a button on the avatar's controlling HUD.
  18. Yes. Each layer is a separate face or set of faces, and each face has its own texture.
  19. Even with onion layers, this is still a win. Tattoos on the skin layer, a leotard on the underwear layer, and something else on a clothing layer over the top of that. The biggest thing that has been missing from mesh bodies (aside from uniformity enough that clothing makers don't have to make 40 different versions, one for each mesh avatar, each one of which is just different enough to screw things up) is the ability to composite textures on the fly. Clothing creators don't have this problem, but those of us who actually own mesh bodies and want to use the piles of clothing we'd bought before they became a thing without having to buy it all over again and reorganize the world do. Yes, materials support is important, but so is getting it right.
  20. You folks can ***** all you want. I'm just going to happily and somewhat impatiently await its arrival. The alternative for me is uploading 100,000 textures to take care of 10,000 possible IDs time five ranks times two sexes, or else spending an hour or so to set up each new member's textures and then creating an applier for the mesh-avatar-of-the-week (and buying all of the development kits to go with that).
  21. It's not at all unusable, for folks who have system layer clothing they want to use with a mesh avatar. It saves having to create appliers for it.
  22. I'm really looking forward to this. Right now. my RP sim members are restricted to using system bodies because of a technique I use. The member's clothing displays their member ID; I get there without having to make an individual texture for each member by using the tattoo layer for the clothing itself (it's latex) and a series of four undershirts, each with one digit of the ID. Thus, by uploading 40 textures, I got the ability to do 10,000 IDs. The uniform giver automates the entire process. This doesn't work on mesh avatars because they can't composite multiple textures onto a single layer. I've been struggling to make my own mesh avatars to give out to my members so that nobody does without, but this may obviate the need for that. I don't see this as being an issue for mesh body creators at all, as long as there's scripting support for setting a mesh face to use a baked texture. (There is, isn't there, Vir? If not, you're crippling things.) All they need to do is add a picker to their HUDs to let the user select a baked texture. Creators can continue as before, or they can use baked textures; many will probably stick to appliers, because of the total lack of support for materials in the baking process. (A really dumb decision, but that's water under the bridge now.)
  23. So will people's rankings and reviews be back? The last time this happened - and it was fixed less than a week ago - Casper Warden of Caspertech wound up spending I don't know how much in Marketplace commissions getting people who already had his products to rebuy them and then refunding their purchase price so he could get back where he was at the top of the rankings in his category. Come on, folks...once was bad enough, especially since it took nine days to fix. Twice? Casper's comment about incompetence is looking on-target.
  24. TDawg, Lindal's right on the money. Packet loss and ping time problems are not anything that Linden Lab's technical support - and certainly not their billing support! - or Firestorm's technical support can fix. Those problems happen before Second Life gets into the picture. You are going to have to isolate your problem to either the network in your home or else your ISP. Either or both may be at issue here. Given your ISp's reaction, it's probably best to eliminate your own home's network as an issue. How is your PC connected to your Internet router? Is it wireless, or is there an Ethernet cable? Try turning off anything and everything else in the house that connects to the net. Do you still have a problem then? If not, then check out your Internet router. Try moving your computer next to it and plugging in an Ethernet cable, if it's wireless. Most of all, though, you are going to have to concentrate on where the problem actually lies. Giving LL or Firestorm tech support a hard time because they can't fix your packet loss issues is only going to frustrate you both.
