  1. I had to log in just to post about Pink Fuel. Can't say enough about these skins!
  2. Time and time again I find myself returningto the "Kowloon" sim. A relipica of the asian city streets, this sim is so well put together and is ableto keep you enthralled visit after visit. It is not the "prettiest" sim.. but the look and layout is amazingly well thought out. And the way it is designed, it is nearly impossibleto see everything in even 2-3 visits. I have spent numerous hours exploringand still find many little hidden nooks and crannies.
  3. Very well thought out replies to a not very well thought out statement. The argmuents made over the available viewers says a lot more about the users making the statements than the actual viewer they are using.
  4. I will hang on to my current Kirstins viewer for as long as i can. In the area of graphics, or simply how the SL world looks on your viewer, this viewer has been head and shoulders above the rest. (Not to mention being able to view SL in 3D!). V3 has slowly become a good reliable alternative. Kirstin should be applauded for all the hard work and time commited to the project and the commitment to a quality product.
  5. Yes. Stop using Lindin plants. There are much better performing and economical options out there.
  6. Spot On! Thank you for saying this Tristizia!
  7. Love it as well. It allows you to inject a lot more of yourself into your profile instead of some brief bio. It also give me more control of what I can choose to see or not see.
  8. I am not sure how you turn YOUR music on in V2, but I simply click on the sound button at the top right of the viewer. one click. Of course, the old V1 will aks me, after i have clicked the sound button, if I want to listen to the stream (which I just tried to turn on). 2 clicks. The V2 I use gives me much more ofa view of what is going on in world with everything tucked inside a dark, thin frame. If you area designer or resident who wants to be inform and aware of what is actuallay goin on in-world, or you want to take part in creating that environment, then viewer 2 would be a good choice. If you are just playingasa past time, then the old viewer would probably work just fine. While one could definately argue wether some of the"advances" LL has added to the viewer are of merit, I think it is totally unreasonable to expect a company to make its advances available to two sets of code just to please customers when their are multiple option already available in the TPV lineup (Kirstins & Firestorm).
  9. I still mainatina my praise for the 2.8, but I will stipulate that it is a resource hog! Than again, my machine is going on year 8. You might need to put an extra hamster on the wheel, but it is still head and shoulders above 2.4.
  10. on a 5 year old computer with viewer settings on high, with my avi standing in the same location: SL V2: 37 FPS Kirstins 30 FPS Firestorm: 22 FPS The SL V2 beta is even faster, but barely works.
  11. Is it atall possible to keep the SL Viewer from automatically updating? The new release isa wreck, not much works at all for me..butI was really liking the previous version and would like to keep running it.
  12. Wow! I have been taking the beta out fora spin and Keli is right. The graphics so far look amazing. The aliasing on my avi is almost non-existant. Colors are rich and crisp. I am not tech savy enough to know what, but it is noticable. I am getting 30-35 fps on "hihgh" on my five year old computer, which is pretty good for me. Shadows actually work. This is always nice. The last "officia" release was a total disaster for me, with lots of rendering problems and lag issues.. i find it odda beta would work so much better than what was released for public use only days ago.
  13. I agree with most of the advice provided so far, accept for the comments regarding voice which I will touch on later. As as for technology, you need the program to stream your music with. Winamp is free and a great way to start, but I would not use it to perfom in front of a crowd as its mixing capabilites are severely limited. I prefer Virtual DJ, and the home edition is fairly inexpensive and if you look aorund on the net can be found for free. You also want to aquire a stream. They can be purchased in world and the cost depends on how many listeners your stream will allow. (I have some great recomendations that will save you a lot of $L if you would like to IM me.) Also, many clubs will provide a house stream. The more music you have, the better. I would stick to one or two styles, don't try to be familar with every style and a master of none. Pick a few styles YOU love and know them inside out. If you don't havea love for, let's say country music, and you are playing it..it will show. PLEASE, take the time and learn to mix your music. Understand the concept of BPM ( Beats Per Minute), melody and volume. Work up a short playlist of go to songs and get them in an order that builds your set and keeps the energy up. Don't tie yourself to the playlist though. It is a template and you will want to try and get a few variations in your set. My opinion on voice - You are the DJ, you are not the host. The quality of voice provided in SL is barely that of AM radio and I came to the club to hear music, not you. Nothing kills the flow like some goofball getting on the mike and rambling, and all DJ's tend to say the same 4-5 comments in varied forms. You are glad we are here.. the clubs rocks.. you want us to tip the host ...we get it. I have experience to back this up. After dropping voice and focusing on creating a moving set that flows..my tips have nearly doubled and I have recieved more offers to spin. If you insist on using it, please do it sparingly...no more then a few times to introduce yourself. Your set as a whole is your piece of art. You are a DJ, you are not a Ipod. Obviously, others do not share this opinion but I just wanted you to know there is another opinion out there among DJs and that is.. everytime you use voice, God kills a kitten
  14. This has been an issue I have been thinking about a lot lately myself. For the longesttime, my avi has been a fairly normal SL height, which means extremely tall! (6'5" or more). I recently tried to reshape myself to a more realistic height for a human female. It not only did not look right, it made it very hard to fit any clothes. I have opted ora happy medium of around 6' ft. For me, if I have a human avi, then I would want them to be human in size as well. To me it sort of defeats the purpose of trying to create a realistic avi, then have her the size ofa small building. If I want to RP as a Amazon or have a reason for my avi to be very tall, then it would make sense. I do see a push for more natural height in avis and I am sure our OP has ran into some folk who are perhaps taking the issue a bit too far and sticking there nose in someone else's business. Let's remember LL created this mess with starting the avis out at a taller than natural height. Pure laziness on their part. Like it or not, that IS the norm andI have no problem whatsever with taller avis...or tiny ones! I do think proportion is important. the crazy long frog legs on emales cracks me up. It took a lot of searching and work on the shape editor butI have made my avi correctly proportioned for her height. Proportion is not subjective. Your body is either in proportion, or it aint. No matter what height, an avi looks very pleasant to the eye when it is in proportion and clothes fit better and animations are wonderful. The important thing is for you to be happy with how your avi looks.
  15. Sookie's sollution was the one that worked for me. Went in to the program files and manually deleted the entire SL folder THEN did the install and it did load properly. Lag is very high though.
  16. With e the release of the new viewer 2.7, everytimeI log in to SL on my older verison, Sl wants to install this new version, which would be great...accept it will not install on my computer. Every time I try, I get the same warning that there is an "error" with the following files and they can not be installed" secondliveviewer\llplugin\imageformats\qtiff4.dl secondliveviewer\llplugin\imageformats\qmng4.dll secondliveviewer\llplugin\imageformats\qjpeg4.dll these are just few of multiple files that have an error. Is there a fix for this so thatI can install the2.7, or is thera way t o use my older version without LL triyng to force an install of 2.7 on me?
  17. The new Beta will not even boot up on my computer, it crashes at loging and shuts off..so I guess it is thumbs down for me. This is what I ger for being such a big supporter of the SL viewer. No good deed goes unpunished.
  18. Upon being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Who's Pete Towsend was asked about the rising populairty of rap music, a form of music he is less than fond of. "Just like rock music before it, it is not my job to understand rap music, it is my job to get the hell out of the way" I think it sort of applies here. As somone who is new to SL, but fairly old in RL, I kind of get amazed at the "good old days" attitude I constantly come acorss here in SL. I understand it indeed. Having falling in love with SL in short time, I can only imagine the attachment it would have to a veteran member. That said, is think that anyone who has used the internet for more than a year or two would HAVE to realises that, to be viable, SL must change and adapt at lightening speed. Some changes will be good, some will be bad. and then those changes will be changed. Eventually those changes will be changed. Be it meshes, or viewers, I get this feeling of people trying to push back the wind. It can not be done. Just the view of a noob, but SL seems to be commtted to adding aspects to the environment, while not changing the environment. Meshes will be here, but no one will have to stop using prims. Just like many famous authors still choose to type on a typewriter. The LL VIewer will continue to evolve and become the stadard that LL works around, but it still allows folks to use third party viewers. Again, as a noob, I find it amazing that even allows third party viewers. It has to provide them with constant headaches, with no other benefit than to please older members. Now I will climb off my little LL soapbox and say that I agree 100 percent with the comments regarding the fact that LL is not as connected to the world as it should be, and clearly once was. Even as a new member, I can scroll back through old articles and see that a growing divide between how LL thinks SL works a in -world and how it ACTUALLY works has grown do to the simple fact that no one in charge seems to spend a lot of time in here. I may be totally wrong.
