  1. I think the rp ages were common sense implied, especially since there is a HUGE family community in sl of all (yes rp) ages.
  2. Let me know if you find one, I've been searchinf for something like this for ages.
  3. Thought of starting with medical school? That'd be a good place to learn what all you need to know and how things work.
  4. Nyll Bergbahn wrote: It was a false alarm due to equipment malfunction. The article has been rewritten. Yeah, right, like anyone is buying that story? lol
  5. Gotti Rubble wrote: Lol the 70s happened to that. - So is anyone up to start fifties rp Good point! lol.
  6. Gotti Rubble wrote: But the wholesome aspect is really what im driving for, the whole deamnor of the residents towards change. I am certainly with you there! Wasn't that the days when people actually had a thing called manners to? What happened to that?
  7. Oh, I did think of a couple of jobs/roles that would fit in if it was ok with the owner: Car Hops and Soda Jerks. They would work for tips.
  8. Gotti Rubble wrote: Fifties RP would be dope. My ideas are such: Demeanor. - Within this rp community all the players would be required to have avatars that looked like they were from the 1950s. Also in the early-mid 20th century society was less open minded, and the media protrayed wholesome-ness and values. So in public controversial things would be looked down upon (openly selling drugs, cursing,etc--> But these things could all still occur, but behind closed doors.). The demeanor of the residents would have to reflect the era. Touchy topics such as racism, and sexism don't have to openly portrayed, but for example of a woman character were to get ambitious and try and apply for town police force, the response of the town and the police force would not be favorable. The townspeople would most likely discourage the character, or frown upon it. SO in otherwords roleplayers can pave their own stories and in a way live in the 50s. Real World events: Events of the 50s and 60s could come up, and there could be an organized event to re--enact the particular event. Family: Family RP will be very encouraged. Like the traditional early-20th century American family. You don't see this much anymore in SL, and it could be fun for some. Kid/teen-avatar RP: If agreed upon, kid avatars could be allowed (with RULES), as youth culture played a big part in the era. Could offer a whole new avenue. City-base groups. (The usual modern city groups) -Police -Paramedic -Fire Department Playerbased groups (Day to Day workers really build and form a base for good town rp) - Workforce: Buisnessmen (corporate), Milkman Union, Postman Union, clerk, etc, etc ---> These could all be roleplayed, and are plausible roleplay titles. -Greasers, outcast, poor type group: Would be looked down upon by the rest of the townspeople as trashy, etc, etc. (A basic social class conflict could occur here, the storylines are up to the players) Some of the ideas are interesting although I'm not sure all of them would really work for what she has in mind or for this particular sim, it's not really set up for a fire department for example, and paramedics did not even exist to any extent until the late 60's and early 70's in one city and then finally began to branch out through the later 70's and 80's so that wouldn't even fit. I think the player groups are way to constraining and again, the sim isn't really set up for that anyway, there is no where for all of these "workers" etc. I think the idea is for a more casual type of role play within the era, but typical things like sock hops and dinner parties and hanging out at the drive-in etc. ... you know, more free form and light hearted. I am definately with you on the wholesome part though, that was one of the iconic benchmarks of the era, one we sadly are missing too much of. FYI, the first woman police officer dates all the way back to 1910 so by the 50's it was not that unusual to have a few women on the force. I'm not sure what you meant about family rp missing in SL, the Family RP community is pretty huge in SL.
  9. It sounded like an interesting place so I popped over to have a look and the sim is really well done and it looks like a lot of fun with some great potential!

Jeanne Misoygynist indeed!!!! Half of the "women" are actually men with major women hating issues and the few women that do get involved and actually know what it is about must be in need of some serious therapy and have low self esteem issues that allow them to be victimized in such a fashion. I don't know why LL allows such things to be honest.....rape and the abuse of women is not a game, it's not a joke and it should never be considered as "entertainment" doing some is a terrible injustice to women everywhere. i agree with you Allazondra .. thing is tho .. that the gorean roleplay is hardly the worst stuff that goes on in SL .. theres much creepier stuff than this .. SL is a haven for perverts & sickos of all sorts .. the bdsm scene is huge & pervasive in SL .. & pedophiles lurk in SL too .. theres plenty of sick stuff in SL .. & not just on the A rated sims on the other hand tho .. i h8 to judge what others are in2 when no1 can actually physically harm any1 else over the internet .. the question is tho .. how much psychological harm is caused & how much of the virtual violence carries over in2 RL .. judging from all the threads about broken heartedness in these fora id say that we have evidence for a great amount of psychological harm accruing from playing SL .. @ least for susceptible personality types .. i have no way of knowing but i bet that certain guys are mean to their female family members after getting all worked up mistreating 'slave girls' on gorean or other bdsm sims in SL .. no way of knowing how common this is tho Jeanne You make some really good points. There have been some studies done in Europe that have shown that media that protrays women as objects actually rewires the male brain so that it begins to respond to women, even in real life situations, as objects and not people. Other studies have also shown how being exposed to violence, etc. through media has carried over into real life so you would think that SL would have these same effects if not even more so because of the fact that it requires you to actually play an active, instead of a passive, role and involves you directly instead of just watching the actions of others so I would think the psychological harm would be even greater. Of course we already know what harm comes from trvializing vioelene against women. Unfortunately you are right, there are a lot of disturbing things on SL....but there are also a lot of wonderfully positive and creative things that far out weigh the other stuff...they're just not as "loud" so people tend to focus on the rubbish instead of the gems.
