Eventually, a Linden will come by and clean out the land. I did this once and it took about two weeks before all my stuff was returned by {Someone} Linden on parcel "Abandoned Land" - yadda, yadda. I figure anywhere between a week and month until someone cleans things up. BUT, that doesn't make you wrong at all. Because that could still be a long wait for the clean-up if that stuff *is* causing issues.

In my experience they won't do anything unless someone puts in a ticket.

I'm letting my imagination wander now, and I'm imagining that a prim, or prims, in the homes will contain the furniture, and the tenant will be able to click to remove or rez it, room by room. When it's rezzed, each piece will be repositionable, and deleteable. That would be a nice system for the homes. Nice for landlords too. I wonder if any do it.

I built a fully functioning system that does this over 5 years ago. I never ended up using it however as I couldn't find a builder at the time to design the houses and furniture (and yes I know I could have bought stuff but I wanted everything to be custom made for this project)

I own 100000sqm in mainland, you can pay by credit card or USD balance just the same way you do for private islands.

I figured you would own more than that. I mean I haven't seen many of your places but I expected you to have ~5sims worth of land.

Thanks! I'm fine with my land not being connected to mainland, so I disagree with @iamyourneighbour that it's a con for private regions.

It's a pro if you want to make a sailing community. Getting attached to Blake Sea gives you access to a large amount of water to sail through. Personally I don't think it's worth it but I don't sail much anyway.

I've got several televisions that are all digital products - and all RL products ;) Perhaps I should have used a television as an example instead of a sofa lol. Ok. Change my example from sofa to television.

A RL TV is not a digital product, it is a physical product just like a RL Sofa is. A sofa on SL however is purely digital. It is stored digitally it is reproduced digitally, it costs to make extra copies of it due to it being a digital product (excluding the cost to LL storing the data as to who owns copies, how many etc.)

The examples you used were RL products. I replied with another RL product example. Easy ;)

The examples I used were a game (which you may get a CD/DVD for but it is still a digital product you can install on multiple computers or play on multiple consoles) and a digital album. Please do go on.

Don't be so argumentative. Two customers - 2x customer service. And don't forget the significant amount of money it costs to run a large store. Also, don't forget that businesses are in business for profit.

Look. Everyone (well almost everyone) agrees that there is no right or wrong about it. So stop being argumentative.

Yes but you replied to Theresa Tennyson's comment about "something for nothing" being someone wanting something (more lindens) for nothing (multiple copies of the same thing which cost you no more to produce than the original outlay when you designed and made the product) saying that running a large inworld store costs a significant amount. How does a customer having multiple copies of an item increase your costs?

  7. 19 hours ago, Phil Deakins said:

But you wouldn't buy an RL sofa, or chair, or table, etc. and expect to be able to place one of them in every room.

I doesn't matter anyway. There's no disagreement because everyone can choose to sell with whatever perms they want, and everyone can choose to buy with whatever perms they want. Nobody can argue against that - well almost nobody lol.

How does buying a RL sofa correlate to buying a SL sofa. The exampled I used are digital licenses for a reason.

  8. 15 hours ago, Phil Deakins said:

On occasion, yes. I even rescued one customer who was sitting on her sofa outside her skybox.

    Any point to that question?

ETA: An anecdote. I once spent about 30 minutes with one customer trying to help her. During it, she said, "You must think I'm stupid". I did, but I didn't tell her that. In the end I gave up because she just couldn't grasp it at all. I couldn't even get her to left-click the object.

Another ETA, and this is also to Theresa. Don't forget that I was selling for profit, and earning as much as I could. It was a business, not a shared experience. So all these little questions are a bit silly, don't you think?

How does selling 2 copies of a sofa mean you need to spend more time supporting it than if you sold 1 copy to someone.

    @KT Kingsley

I didn't say that, and you should know it!

When someone suggested that it was greed to want to "maximise your income", as you put it, I said that it probably was. Your comment was just plain silly.

It's normal for businesses to try to maximise their profits (you'd think it odd if they didn't), and it's also normal to buy an item and be unable to multiply it (you'd think it odd if you could). Just because it's possible to multiply items in SL, doesn't mean that, therefore, everything must be sold that way. Be happy that some things are, and try to stop being critical when they are not. Be content with the things you can buy that suit your preferences. It's no good fighting a battle you can't win. I already won that particular battle years ago, and you can't change that ;)

When I buy a game, I expect to be able to play it on multiple PC's if I want to. When I buy a digital album, I expect to be able to play it on my PC and make a copy on my phone and be able to play it there to. I think it's the same with furniture on SL. I will gladly buy no-copy furniture if I like it and it's reasonably priced though but I wouldn't buy multiple to put in multiple houses. I would find another seller.

I'm going to step on a lot of toes now :)

Imo, the main reason why people want copyable furntiture is greed. Examples: They want to place a copy in several rooms, or in more than one building, or they want to rez a copy or two for friends if they like it, or they rent homes out and they want to put one or more in each home, but they don't want to pay for them.

There are other minor reason, but that, imo, is the most common reason for wanting copyable furniture.

So because I have 4 sl homes I switch between (all on different sims) you think I should buy furniture 4 times if I want it in all 4 locations? Yeah no thanks.

Copy, I'm very unlikely to actually try and sell my furniture I would rather be able to copy it and know I can put it in multiple houses.

Copy+Mod always. Sure I won't modify most items (other than re positioning them) but I want to have the ability to modify them and keep a backup so copy is required.

    Hopefully Never.

It's a bar to entry that shows you are not going to overload the concierge team with silly questions. They are busy enough as it is.

The current system, which means homesteaders get support from their estate agents is one that works well.

What if they made it so you don't get concierge support until you have 1 full sim or 4 homesteads?

But SL uses OpenGL. So th graphic card cannot work at its full potential.  I have never seen my graphic card has a over 50% usage when running SL, however the frame rate is often very low.(10-30fps). And I have heard that graphic card makers (Nvidia and AMD) do not focus much on OpenGL performance.  So even the most powerful card (like the recently released GTX 2080ti) can only have the similar performance as ancient graphic cards when running SL. It is CPU that matters more.

I wouldn't trust your post as you don't even know the name of the card you are referring to.

    1. These days, virtually NOBODY's account ever gets "hacked", some people GIVE their passwords away because they are too lazy and stupid to READ web links before clicking on them and attempting to log in with their SL credentials...

    https://www.markinpiece.secondwife.con/only-an-idiot-would-click-this-and-attempt-to-/login.html

    2. Even if somebody DID manage to log in as you, it's highly unlikely they would then come round to your house and kidnap you as you probably don't live anywhere near them.

    3. People looking to kidnap young women are FAR more likely to go somewhere where you find a lot of young wmen, such as, oh, the female dorm block of a university for example, and then wait for targets of opportunity to leave the place, so they can follow them and kidnap them.

    4. The macho idiot SL Standard issue Male who threatened you, is, like oh 80? % of the male population of SL, a complete and utter tool, ignore him.

Except that most of Asia doesnt have electricity much less internet to use SL. The original statement he made was North America and Western Europe are the main users of SL. That was my issue. Australia, Japan, Eastern Europe and the rest of the world have plenty of users.

My statement still stands.. If its a slump for you, it is. There were several people saying it wasnt a slump for them. Absolute statements are inherently flawed. Someone will prove to be the exception to the rule. The better question would have been: Are you having a sales slump and is it worse this year?

It seems like all I ever see nowadays is Japanese people on SL! Just wish I could speak it :(

The day I started this thread I actually saw the old page, refreshed and saw the new page. Once I saw the new page I refreshed a few more times to see what I would get and I kept getting the new page. Wonder what happened to it now though...
