  1. I've only ever had one timed demo and didn't realise it was on a timer, so ended up minus clothes in a store. Other than that one item, nothing I buy uses timed demos so not sure how common this is (I shop non stop from all known stores). 10 minutes would be more than enough for me, I rarely even demo and while the armpits can be an issue, most stuff works fine. (Never try with other things as if I like the item, I'll make it work with something)

  2. Most people don't bother to check the ban list for places they go to and if we do, we're looking for a specific name. How would anyone know that one is your alt? Just because you appear on the same list and there's two people on it means nothing. Lots of people had one name on the list just to ensure privacy worked at one point. I don't know why it needs to be public either, or the access list, but it is and it isn't likely to change. I don't see it as a big deal

Like Zalificent has explained before, if you merely have upgraded a GPU from GTX 1xxx to RTX 3xxx only, after let's say more than 3 years of buying the complete system, chance is high components like CPU or memory will become a bottleneck of processing graphical data. This will be noticeable with so-called micro-stutters, which can be very annoying for demanding games ( FPS, racing simulators ).

Personally, for the sake of safety, I certainly would check if your power supply supports peak currents for the newer card. With an RTX 3xxx series GPU, power supplies should at least be able to catch peaks of a few hundred watts. I chose one of 750 to be on the safe side of things. I would certainly go no lower as 600.

Thanks! The PSU is a 750 so hopefully all ok. Not noticing any issues but I don't play any games just chat in SL so that might be why!

Partially true. Even though SL's engine does not support true ray tracing (that's why you see reflections and physical depth but not the actual beams of light ), the RTX hardware will certainly improve the PBR experience for lighting, reflections and depth.

I agree you shouldn't just invest in RTX hardware, because of SL only.

And jumping from the GTX to RTX will defenitely require upgrades to other vital PC components as well. I'd suggest a new PC as a whole while you are at it.

Did you mean the specific cards listed, or from GTX to RTX in general? I just went from GTX 1060 to RTX 3060 with no problems, the computer had all that it needed to support it, so interested if there's anything I need to check (or if it was just for those specific cards)

Very rarely do I ever have SL music or sounds turned on. I listen to my own music or watch videos on the side. I don't recall ever visiting a live event in SL either as they're generally not my cup of tea. I remember once sitting in the audience of something Strawberry Singh did but can't remember what that was about. People just taking and feeling important.

From reading a few of the posts here it seems the tipping culture is very similar, if not the same, in SL as in RL. There's an expectation of a tip to cover the poor or non-existent wages of people working. Besides the DJ working at doing what?

Also, any venue which has a welcoming committee that announces my entrance by name in local chat before the venue and patrons are anywhere near to being rezzed will likely have me moving on elsewhere. I just don't like having attention drawn to me in general and have much better use for the small quantity of Linden $ sitting in my account.

Yes, I'm an absolute bundle of laughs, but I enjoy quiet more intimate gatherings or connections that do not include crowds, tipping, and faux fun. From time to time I get tipped for looking lovely in the form of L$ cash or Wishlist gifts. That's the only tipping I get involved with.

This! I absolutely hate clubs calling out to me when I didn't rez yet and want to just go in quietly and not be centre of attention! If you really must, at least wait a few

  6. No idea why the country I live in is at all relevant to a virtual job, so long as I can speak English which people from many countries can. Please don't say timezone, it's totally pointless, many in sl do not login at expected times for their country. Why not just say times you're onlinee slt?

  7. To start with, if I have a request that is of the genre being played and the DJ refuses with no reason, then no, I don't tip. If I request and it's played, then always. Usually I tip L$100 but if I'm having a great time and the DJ is good then I'll tip a second time (more). Hosts just depends; if all they do is gesture then no . . . I hate it and don't want to encourage them. If they ask/beg for tips then no again. If they are really working hard then of course, they get the same as the DJ. Luckily where I go the DJ's mix live and can easily fit something in and are happy to do so, after all, you're there to give the crowd a good time and part of the fun is having your tune played and some like a mention.

Any DJ with the attitude of the one a few posts above who thinks it's all about them not only gets zero, I'd just leave as they assume everyone wants to hear their choices of music. When I see a DJ taking requests, we all accept some will be songs we don't like just the same as if the DJ picked the song and it's fine

Its possible to get close to someone in sl even though you both have no desire or intention to take it to real life. In that case the rl gender of either party is unimportant.

However if one party changes their mind and wants real life, and the other doesn't for any reason (not just because you misrepresented your gender) It's best to cut it off fast and for good.

People should be honest about maybe eventually wanting a rl relationship, then those of us that are happy with sl only can shut the relationship down before it gets started.

    😁

To YOU. To many of us, it IS important. If I'm close to someone, their sex matters. Same as I may not want male friends or to discuss certain things with males rl. Our minds are the same on or off of SL, only the body changes

I'm leaving this forum. I really don't like the way people react to each other here. All the best and have a nice Second Life.

Ok bye. Why would you need to tell us all this?

    Hello all,

I am a mostly straight man in real life who has avatars/accounts of different kinds (male and female, human and non-human, etc.) I do have woman avatars but I do not put my real life gender on them because I actually want other residents to think they are really women - even if I do not intend on pursuing relationships in virtual worlds. But after reading this forum, I'm beginning to think this may not be ethical. I'm curious if you think I should put my real-life gender on my woman avatars' profiles in order to deal with other residents in an ethical manner, or if it's okay to keep it hidden.

I don't think you need to, no. There is never a guarantee of the real life sex of the avatar and as your avi IS a woman, that's all they need to know unless you start to become friends, then yes, let them know. Same goes for anyone trans. It doesn't matter unless you start to get close to someone, then yes they need to know, even if you believe you're actually female/male. The right person won't have any problem with it and if they do at that early stage, you had a lucky escape

A distant animesh object could do it. That would make it not "a me problem" other than you might have a longer draw distance than anybody who doesn't see it (or just be closer to the object). I wonder if it's possible to select this thing and find out what it is—and who owns it. It could be merely a rendering artifact of some sort, but I'd avoid that conclusion unless many people have seen it happening in other settings.

ETA: There's definitely animesh kinda nearby. Here's the scene just outside the store which in the original scene would be behind the wall on the right:

    image.png.f9b8e8b79f2e4b8cd66fd8d33ed03a17.png

The yellow and pink guys are the same shape, and from the pink triangle remaining you can see how badly the meshes degrade with LoD. That might have something to do with it. None of this explains the BoM texture though, so maybe this animesh stuff is only a coincidence.

Yeah nobody else could see it but I fofund one girl in the FS support group who'd had the same thing happen but in a club and she'd just put it down to lag. I can't click on it to see any info, the yellow does look like the yellow on whatever that is outside, have seen it look like skin too and also blue like many things in there

  12. Hi all, I was at HiVid store and started to see yellow and blue flashing and moving textures:

    Firestorm-Releasex64 6.6.8.68380 - Liaa Nova (gyazo.com)

The only way I could make it stop was to low draw distance from 200 to 64. Someone else in the store couldn't see it, it was very much a me problem!

Graphics driver is up to date

Someone in Firestorm support said they'd had the same issue but in a club so just thought it was lag

    Any ideas pls?
