  1. Thanks for all that info Nalates, it is all very interesting and useful.
  2. I didn't see anything on the deploys for the week report. Do you think this has been deferred?
  3. The post that Rolig put up I think is appropriate because I have noticed that the SIMS that have the frequent crash problems also suffer from the incredible, unexplained lag problem you are describing. When Linden find a solution to this not new issue, you will hopefully find that your lag problem will also be sorted.
  4. It was Andrew Linden who set up the tests but it wouldn't necessarily be Andrew that does the roll out. Actually I said "Where the 2 SIMS were running on the same versions you couldn't even tell you had crossed a SIM". For the others, "The results in SIM crossing were nothing short of fantastic". This was my personal experience, but Bancos Milestone, the owner collecting all the data from the tests said "Thanks to all who participated in the Aiva Test Grid. All note cards submitted were sent to Andrew Linden on Monday and a second batch is being assembled to be sent today. Over all, it seems that the test grid was much better than any previous server side software. With the positive response we expect that Andrew Linden will be rolling this version out as soon as practical". :matte-motes-big-grin-wink: Just to add, SIM crossing isn't obviously the only factor, if you arrive in a poor performing SIM or one that has issues for whatever reason, or your own equipment or viewer is giving issues then that will affect things. This was only about the actual SIM crossing experience.
  5. Last weekend, after a meeting with the Lindens, it was proposed that a test be done on 12 adjoining sims in the Balsa Avia Regions on some technical changes that were an attempt to improve SIM crossings. The tests took place and I, along with a lot of others, was involved, using all sorts of vehicles like cars, planes, helicopters, motor and sailing boats, horses etc. The results in SIM crossing were nothing short of fantastic. Where the 2 SIMS were running on the same versions you couldn't even tell you had crossed a SIM. Yes, it was that good. Tests included SIM corner crossings, SIM crossings of more than one vehicle at the same time etc. I don't know if this is what Linden is proposing to roll out on Monday, but if it is then this is a fix for an old issue and brilliant news.

    Viewer 3

I heard that Viewer 3 is now no longer beta and is the official SL Viewer. I have tried to find some instructions on how to use it but didnt succeed, so anyone got a link? Also, what is the feedback on how it looks and works? I have been around a while so I'm still on Viewer 1 simply because I find it doesnt crash so much when crossing sims with vehicles, except for the last few days when I have found everywhere on the grid performing poorly (anyone notice sims going down all over the place over the weekend?). I hope updates this week improve performance. Thanks.
  7. For other activities, have you considered learning to fly an aeroplane or learning to sail in SL ? The experience and skills needed overlap RL if you use planes or boats with realistic scripts, so it's great fun. Both activities are mainly centered around the Blake Sea area of SL, though Balsa - Avia has an excellent flying school http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/BALSA%20INC%20AVEOUSA/172/89/29 Here are some other links http://www.slflying.net/forum/index.php http://slsailing.com/
  8. The Lobster Claw Restaurant in Alba Islands is fantastic. There is a charge of L$100 but it is well worth it, and sorry, but I didnt quite work out between the heading and content of your posting, if you wanted one with or without service. So, I just thought I would tell you about this place anyway:matte-motes-big-grin-wink: http://alba-islands.com/Restaurant.aspx
  9. [Posted 12:15AM PDT, 03 September 2011] Some residents may be experiencing issues when attempting L$ purchases. Our payment processor is reporting temporary difficulty. L$ purchase attempts may fail during this time. We are aware of the issue and will update this blog as soon as we have more information
  10. Yes happens to me sometimes too. A relog or moving to a different sim or both usually fixes it.
  11. Some links that might help you http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Business,_Marketing_and_Advertising http://www.slentre.com/real-life-in-second-life-rl-businesses-must-go-beyond-sl-advertising/ Also, visiting places like the Ginny Business Center and trying some networking there may help.
  12. The British use the abbreviation lb for pound weight or lbs for pounds weight. Source? The unit is descended from the Roman libra hence the abbreviation lb. We also have warmly accepted Meerkats into our society with some becoming famous television stars ! Simples.
  13. Firstly, it is only a few days since you filed your report and as it seems to need investigation, then give Linden some time to follow it through. However, Marigold has a good point. You say the owner of the church bought the items from you and the only issue you have is that your name isn't appearing on a right click, but, as Marigold says, if the owner of the church has been fitting your individual items as part of a bigger project, then this would be quite normal. I think you may be worrying about something that isn't an issue, especially, as you say the owner did buy the objects.
  14. Just one more thing; privately owned houses or other proeprty available for rent will usually have big boxes outside them saying "for rent". Obviously it's OK to go and look inside them and hey, maybe you will like it and rent it :matte-motes-big-grin-wink:
  15. Did you try to return the objects? Wear the group tag for the land if you were given one, then right click the object and select more, then select return.
  16. Wow. I didnt read any of the rest of this stuff but the pics of your 2 outfits are bloody brilliant. Either would go down well in a Brit club. Well cool. :manvery-happy:
  17. So when is it opening jamie and wher is it ? :manvery-happy:
  18. Yes, you have to just keep trying until the house you want becomes available and the Meadowbrook range seems to be the most popular. I suggest you keep trying and don't choose another house until you get the option of the one you want. That way the 24 hours waiting period wont apply because you wont be abandoning anything. Oh, no, I don't know of any blocking just because you keep abandoning houses.
  19. Have you thought about taking up a group activity that will put you together with other people? For example sailing. There are yacht clubs with free lessons and boats and they organise events, so with a shared interest with others, you are more likely to make good friends. Check out Starboards Yacht Club, Fishers Island Yacht Club and Nantucket Yacht Club (NYC). If sailing isn't your thing, then research other group activities, other than dancing at clubs which sometimes doesn't produce friendships.
  20. Oh yes, the inworld display of your L$ balance can go wrong from time to time. The balance shown in your account, access this by logging in to your SL account on the internet, is usally correct. As has already been said, often a relog clears it up.
  21. I experienced problems with inventory items for a while around the time you had your problem. Later, I noticed maintenance was done on the Inventory so it could be a permanent loss or a temporary one. Now everything is working OK again, so if you still didn't get it then contacting the vendor is your option as has already been answered.
  22. Well you have the answers here Lucas, but I just wanted to say I am really so sorry this happened to you and I do hope you can get it sorted with the buyer.
  23. Well done taylr, By turning off your modem you probably got a new IP address so that cleared it. You will know how to do it in future, but i hope you dont have anymore problems. Enjoy Second Life.
  24. Do you have a firewall blocking access to the internet of the SL Viewer program?
