Hey guys! I've got the new thread up! Please make suggestions over there. Comments. This is a new format for a SL selfie thread. I need help. I want structure so that we can quip, and so that it is clear what is and is not on topic, thus hopefully avoiding the "who elected her god?" (The answer would be ME, cuz I'm the OP!) How about that. Maybe the peeve thread created something! Let's have fun!

No, no, I'm not talking nudes here! A few of us were chatting in other threads/boards about how we'd like to see a photo thread for raw, as-is, screenshots without post-production. So... we have the technology, let's give it a whirl. So that we can stay on topic, and in the mods' good graces, and perhaps have some ammo against trolls, here's a little bit about the theme here: This is primarily, but not exclusively, a photo thread. Post images that are screenshots of scenes that focus on the avatar. That means they are not to be edited with post-production techniques, like from Photoshop. Cropping and signatures are ok. This is for portraits, not landscapes, etc. See the exception to the edited photos below.* It's ok to banter and have some chat. The focus of the thread is photos, but also to have a fun community where a little quipping and bantering is ok and even welcome. Don't do pages and pages of it, but a little is fine. It is nice to have chatter about "I like your photo" but it is also nice to have chat about "I like your photo because. . ." It is also ok then to have chat about, "I like your photo, how did you . . . ?" And that would be for talks about mechanics OF THE PHOTOS POSTED. So talks about the viewer used, the DOF settings, etc. are all on topic as long as they are about specific photos in the thread. Hopefully this doesn't don't take pages and pages and push out the photos. If that happens I hope it is ok to suggest that a new topic be started for that particular subject. It is also OK to ask, "Where did you get that . . .?" "What is the SLurl?" That's about it. Have fun. Don't be a d*ck, and everything will be just fine. *If people who do post-processing would share their before and after photos here then that would be another way to participate. If you do that, then it is OK to post the after shot along with the before, or you can post a link to the after shot in Flickr or wherever you post your finished work. Strawberry Singh/Linden used to post the raw shot on her my.secondlife feed and the finished product on her blog, and I always found that to be fun and interesting. Be sure to include the raw shot! DISCLAIMER SO PEOPLE DON'T GET TWISTED KNICKERS: It is NOT the intention of this thread to claim that raw shots are better in any way, shape, or form than ones that are edited. Nope. They are both great—but they are two different things. Also, I have heard from some folks that putting their screenshots in with the heavily processed shots can be intimidating. If you feel that way, post here. If your style is more quick snapshots to chronicle every day avatarisms, post here. If you don't like a certain chat, like say, the mechanics of DOF on xyz's photo, the scroll feature works really well. I'm hoping we get all styles and levels of participation here. Now go out there, take some photos, show 'em off here and have fun!

@Skell Dagger That sounds great! It looks like most of the photo threads do not have an initial posting of the theme behind the thread. No real OP. And I think that may be why people start making them up (and I know what you are saying about the mods saying stay on track, I don't think that is all of it though).

Well hey there. What? Do you have the Forum set up for mentions of "Skell." ? Nah, you are not to blame for anything. What you described may have happened, but what we are peeving about here is that the personality of that thread has changed to be really, um, snotty to people who don't toe the line on some pretty arbitrary "rules of engagement" (like who the eff set up those rules?). Some of us are peeving because of the snarks that happen, by a handful of people, if you start talking about things like DOF, or viewers, etc. as it pertains to specific photos posted in that very thread! Now, you're just the person I want to talk to, though. I mentioned starting a new thread then thoughT, nah, I don't really care enough and there's Flickr. Then Sylvia started talking. Then I started thinking, and I just posted that I'd be interested in a RAW (or lightly PS'd) selfie thread ESPECIALLY if people like ... I dunno ... YOU ... who do post-production would share your before shots with a link to your after shots and maybe sometimes there could be a talk about it? I don't know if any of that is what Sylvia is talking about, but it is for me. If you would I might just have to consider starting that thread. (And boy, I didn't mean that like it probably sounds... like it ALL RESTS ON YOU BUDDY!) ETA: LoL, you answered as I was typing! OK then. Gimme a bit to think about it.

Hear, hear! And sadly, that too you have to say in this thread because if you say it in the other thread you get the drama. Well done raw shots are awesome. I wish there were a way to say "OK in this thread it is for raw shots OR shots that have a teeny bit of PS but not PS'd to high hell" (using CM's humourous phrasing). You know, like editing a bit of hair that is cutting through, or tweaking the contrast. Basically do things that you can't tell that have been done but it helps the photo retain its SL quality. Disclaimer: Because I *still* have to walk on eggshells. I love some of the digital art that is produced based upon SL images! Some people are so talented. I chose my words carefully there, though, because that's what I think it is "SL-based digital art" and not SL photography. And yes, "here be dragons" because that's one of those awful art school debates about "what is art and what is craft" and I really hated those. ETA: Now that I think about it, I'd really like to see that thread IF people who DO PS to high hell would share their before pictures, before the PS, and then they could link to their Flickr or whatever for the "enhanced" version. Strawberry Singh when she was still that used to do that all of the time. She'd post the raw on her Feed and the finished on her blog.

Yeah. I remember that. This forum re-upped the VaNiTy thread in 2011. Looks like I posted in 2012 for a half a second. I haven't posted consistently to this entire Forum until the past year. I've posted on/off in spurts. 2014, 20... who knows. Looking at the one in this Forum, the ones from the early days is all chit chat and mostly average photos. Something must have happened with the viewers because the photo quality jumped it seems between 2011 and 2012, or maybe folks just got better computers? Anyway, lots of comments back and forth. It looks like the latter pages are more photos only but there are plenty of casual ones, and some like Skell's that are pro-looking.

OH! Last comment for this derail (won't promise on others) but I found my first post to the VaNiTy thread! zomg. Seems I posted several in a row, fwiw.

Thanks. It is that subtext stuff I was talking with kira about. Or maybe not... as I said in my recent post to Marigold, I may have made a mistake, if so, then I was in error. Pure and simple.

I don't know how to get the nested quotes, because I wanted to show the comment kiramanell said that you commented upon. OH! The VaNiTy thread. Ya know, I realized there was another selfie thread down there but really haven't looked at it. I remember that thread! And because of what you said I just went back and started at page one. Oh. My. That brought up memories... and triggered me a bit. But one thing I'm noticing is that there's just as much banter in it (so far, through pg 15) as photos. That got me to thinking... That's the kind of forum *I'm* used to. So maybe not so much the ppl with the sticks-up-their-collective-butts? I much prefer the kind I'm reading in that old thread, and guess what? I'm using my scroll button a lot doing so. It. Works. I can speculate why it fell out of favor, but I won't.

Well then, here's a chance for me to prove that I mean what I write. (And I mean what I write about what I write.) Several comments above I said that if you find out you were wrong, correct it and move on. I said if you owe an apology, make it and don't use the words "actually" or "but." So here goes (and not the first time I've done this because I haven't found The Truth either.) Marigold, I *have* been taking several of your posts personally, including the humorous video, but also the one about the head in toilet emoji because of mean girls. In several threads, and even IM, I feel like you've been doing the tsk-tsk thing to me (though lord knows, not the only one). IF that is how you meant it, then I take nothing back. IF that is not how you meant it, then I apologize for my remarks. I will admit to be overly-sensitive then, for pretty good reasons, but being wrong nonetheless. IF that is not how you meant things then I feel pretty crappy about my remarks, and I'm truly sorry.

@kiramanell lol. I've learned a few things from my 6-7 years (or more, if it is still ongoing, I dunno, I don't get Twitter) of being heavily trolled in and out of SL by a SL crazy person. One thing I've learned is that unless you are smack dab in the middle of it personally, you probably don't know most of the subtext. Those of us on the receiving end, and probably the giving end too, tend to think "the stuff" is well-known by EVERYONE. That's rarely the case. Only a few people generally know what is going on. Back in the olden days, what went on with me and *that person* in the forums (which was truly the Wild West in what could be said and done) was pretty well known. It was hard to get away from if you were in the general discussion portion. Even still, 99.9% of the people didn't really know the particulars. And why should they? At the time I didn't know that. But I do now. So I get it. I also know that I'm no different, and am generally not privy to the subtext other people have going on. And I'm not unhappy about that.

Ah, thanks for the clarification because that is how I read it (the wrong way). And since you have mentioned that you often aren't really cognizant of the subtexts going on here, and hopefully not mansplaining here (another cross thread reference!), Marigold and TDD are tag teaming because they are besties, and the beaver yell video, while hugely humorous, is a troll dig at me for stuff that I might have done under the influence of poisonous peanut bugs last night over in the feelings thread. And yes, there's the subtext about tsking grown-assed adults. fwiw

No, you've found that thread to be one in which you poke and poke and obviously upset people and then claim it is all a joke and then keep it up for over 24 hours when others have moved on. And so... exactly HOW is that ignoring? It is LAUGHABLE what you type here. But then, you have shown yourself to be a hypocrite many times over.

I do, or can ignore, but I won't always. It depends on the situation. That choice is mine, not somebody else's who has All The Answers to the Universe. Sometimes my best option is to flounce, quietly or officially. Sometimes it is to tell an as5hole when they are being an as5hole and why. And sometimes it is to research beaver dwellings. I used to have in my sig line my favorite quote of all time. It has been on my profile, here, as a texture on my SL home wall, in RL in a frame...Vaclav Havel's 'Keep the company of those who seek the truth, and run from those who have found it' I have yet to meet anyone on this Forum who has found the truth, but plenty who think they have.

I thought about starting another photo thread, but there is already another one. Mine would have started out with an explanation about how discussions are ok, that it is a primarily photo thread, but the occasional good natured banter is fine, that talks about how to take photos is fine, that talks about where to find... are fine. In other words, stick-up-the-butt prancing around is discouraged. But as I said, there's another selfie thread already there. And I would have to care much more than I do. And there is Flickr and other places where I can get IMed because it isn't FAIR that I don't ♥ so-and-so's average photos because I don't like the person.

I *wish* that particular ppl knows who they are. I'm pretty sure they don't. And this ppl is one big reason why I flounced out. Months and months of this tsk-tsking crapola. Who died and left her in charge? "No words!" she types...in word posts over and over. Also I've noticed said Thread Ruler and Arbitor of All Things Allowable, does herself sometimes make remarks that would violate her own pronouncements. And the thread "personality" (as in group think) just looks on. And yeah, complain here in this thread because if you complain over there, even in the most polite way possible, the entire thread will jump on you for being mean to a darling... it is that weird of a thread personality. I don't know if said ppl are complaining about the occasional quote with picture, but I know there are several folks who do pages and pages and pages of the things and yeah, that can be very annoying, but as you said... use your effing scroll button and exercise your hand muscles (and some common sense restraint). That might not be a direct quote of your words... When I type about feeling stabby, that ppl is one I tend to feel stabby about. Effing special snowflake (and not meant in the political sense, but in the sense prior to that but after the positive meaning of the word... continuing the inter-thread crossover vibe here). Je suis calme!

Yeah yeah, its about being an as5hole in photos. The comments I made above about the topic of deleting posts stand. Damage done and all that. For the rest of the peeps sorry about the bit of personal overlay here but since the M.O. (above) is to block people, as Beth and I have learned, public is the only way. Nice, huh?

Agree. And I'm not arguing with anyone about their disgust, etc. Just today, for me, with my particular mood, it makes me feel sad to see someone do that much damage to themselves because (assuming because) they are ill. It doesn't excuse them, etc etc. I've not been quiet about my own mental illness, which thankfully is quite different from what this person is exhibiting. There's garden variety crazy like I have and then there is CRAZY crazy. I still can empathize and for whatever reason I am today. Not saying anyone else has to, especially since this stuff is effing annoying and yeah, I did see at least the dog thing and really wish I hadn't. That was traumatic for me.

Joining with Sylvia to go eat something...she and I not actually noshing together although I'm sure that would be lovely. You know what I mean... Anyway, I haven't eaten a poisonous bug peanut today, my meds are all correctly applied, and I haven't OD'd on coffee so my manic level at the Forums is much diminished today. I'm going to go pretend I have a life for a while. (Remember, though, I'm an unreliable narrator.)

Thanks, for the info on the name. I thought it might be something like that. Honestly, yes... this is sadistic to the forum and the person doxxed but... equally masochistic. I see real self harm here.

I don't pay enough attention to the avatar name, but is it always the same? If it is, then yeah, I don't understand the inability to just shut the account. But I always just assumed it was the case of an avatar posting, doxxing, getting banned and then s/he just repeats the process with a different avatar and new IP address.
