  1. Pedantically enough, I actually did think about that particular phrasing and tested out both of yours (before you both posted them) before settling on what I wrote. Mainly because "don't try to..." gets you out of the "oops, everyone is an a-hole every so often, inadvertently (one hopes)" scenarios. That's why "don't ever" didn't work for me, as I'm just not that perfect. I rarely try to be an a-hole, but some of us are just naturally gifted and things happen without meaning to.
  2. Yes, "banter" is on my list, as is laughing at people and laughing with people. You are generally in the latter group for me. "Misanthropy-fuel" wasn't on my list. It is now.
  3. To quote Belinda, "TLDR" but I did scroll up a few and caught Phil's response. You could almost copy and paste this paragraph into 99% of the threads here and call it a day. I will add a side note to it though, "Just don't try to be an a-hole, and you'll be fine..." YMMV.
  4. Reaching for the "scream emoji" 😱 to respond to this post, only to remember, "Oh right, you only get four insufficient responses in the SL Forum" and "you're confusing this with Discord... which is ironically topical.
  5. With an opening line of, "The GDF is like sticking your head into..." I have to admit I paused and took a deep breath before I continued reading. Yes, I totally get the "Cheers" reference, and the relief from boredom one as well.
  6. As a chat service I live on it. The SL music club I like going to has a channel (server?) and that can be useful, but omg... other channels/servers for products in SL? It is AWFUL. I tried keeping up on the Genus head with their server and wanted to stab my eyes out after a little while. Black Dragon's server is mostly too complicated to find what I need, but it does have its uses. There was a server for a software product (nearly a ubiquitous one in certain corners of the SL world) that was such a cesspool of victimization and drama and allegations and... when the owner did put up an update you had to wade through 30 pages of diatribe to find out what Version 2.7.2 did. I don't hate Discord across the board for such things as product support, but you are correct, it mostly fails.
  7. Thanks to @Ted McGregor on another thread. Now I just need @Sid Nagy's version with the hammers...
  8. Since popping back in here for the first time in a while, I was pondering to myself, "What do you get from reading and/or posting in the SL Forum? And by that I generally mean the GDF, since that is where I do 96.27% of my posting when I am here." I started ticking things off on my fingers and soon realized I needed more fingers, if one were to broaden the musing just a tad and consider historical topics, and to include "what have you gotten?" along with "what do you get?" What do you get by posting/reading here? (Humorous/humourous replies always welcome. Sarcasm gets two extra points.) What have you gotten? Did you have any Internet Firsts here? (For example, I had my first encounter with Virtue Signaling here, before I even knew the term or thing existed, and I fell smack dab into a whole vat of someone else's VS posturing.) I'm torn between "priming the pump" and giving my own list here to start things off, or to simply let anyone who responds take it in whatever direction. Well, I gave one example, and I've hinted that my own list is in the double-digits, so I will leave it there for now. :heavy sigh: My original posts tend to have a lousy track record, and inevitably someone will point out that "In 1947, SLposter.Resident made the exact same post, only better, backwards and wearing high heels. You should research things better before wasting our times!"
  9. Heh. I read this title and immediately thought it would be a request for 20-something guys to help move sofas and other large objects up and down way too many flights of stairs. Pizza and beer for payment, and the eternal gratitude of the sofa owner :batting big green eyes in thanks...: (Glad the OP got it sorted out. The things one learns here...)
  10. And next up, on NHPR, the soothing sounds of Blatantly Contemptuous and their rendition of Dvořák String Quartet No 12, featuring Seicher Rae on the cello... eta: I actually do have a working cello in SL inventory... as one does
  11. Huh. I would have never thought of this but you're right. My ability to drive any kind of SL vehicle has always been slim-to-none but I know quite a few people who do enjoy this. I would enjoy it, but *my ability* prevents me. If you are a store or destination spot set up on mainland, on a main drag, it seems reasonable that one would set things with a reasonable time for autoreturn. I've never understood why that is such an under-utilized feature on so many sims. It isn't as much of a problem as it used to be, since most purchases now arrive with things that attach to your hud so you can unpack, but in the bad old days when things you bought showed up in boxes, it used to drive me bats to not be able to rez the box of clothes or whatever there in the store so I could wear it. Autoreturn, people! Reasonably timed!
  12. Maitreya is a budget option??? eep I hear you on this one. I do know, intellectually, that it is possible to put together a fully kitted out avatar pretty cheaply, that is "decent." However, I also know that it is hard work, you really have to know what you are doing and where to find the things, like with time-consuming research, unless you happen to fall into some kind of blog post which outlines "get the things here." There used to be some sites that would issue challenges for putting together a near free avatar. I never have tried it, and like you, I pieced together, over a period of time, my avatar, years ago. I don't wanna think about the total $ amount...
  13. I'd like to make some more comments about this but... um [and I'm being serious] pretty sure the *topic* would be :cough: *problematic.*
  14. I only use the basic animations on a face, and even those tend to bug me after a while (any brand). I have noticed (for years and a huge peeve) that I constantly had to reset the blinking on my Genus head. I do want blinking and not a flat stare. I am rarely a neko, but I am sometimes, and love it when I am except... if you try it with the old Genus head that I have, you got huge divots in the skull. The only fix I found for it was to wear a hair style that covered it, which rather interfered with styling at times. I hope they fixed that so I can wear my cute, wiggly bento ears (that are now ancient probably...) with or without hair.
  15. My initial reaction to reading your comment was to snicker about the Forums not being all "that safe" as I flashed back to the crazy, bad old days and was thinking how tame this place is now. However, upon the reminder about the warnings that can threaten your inworld account, which is insane but true, yeah. That. Right. I keep forgetting that when I leave and come back, as I have done briefly now. All it takes is one crazy person with a lunatic vendetta and your inworld existence is threatened. But honestly, I still laugh at the notion of how "mean" this place is. They've dumbed it down so much to be boring, tame, lame, etc. for any real conversation, which in a bunch of people (more than 1 is a bunch), is almost certain to be a controversial subject.
  16. Luckily for me, I had JUST swallowed a mouthful of coffee when I saw this. This was a literal LoL. Ok, so yeah, I missed this stuff. Sigh. That's a horrible thing to admit. (scanning to see if anyone in the thread did the "can I have your stuff?" routine) (so mean)
  17. While I've been in SL a while (over 10 years), I somehow missed the griefing phase of SL, which apparently hit its high mark a few years before I joined, when SL was more of the Wild Wild West. I've heard stories of epic griefing, some hilarious but most pointless and stupid, but to the best of my memory I think I've only been on one sim, probably 5-6 years ago, that had to briefly shut down because of an object (I forget what it was) that kept replicating. I've been "griefed" personally, in IMs with the usual stuff female avatars get by existing inworld, but even that was quite a while ago (and the lack of that for years has now made me question the cuteness of my avatar! "I haven't been hit on in ages! What's wrong with meeeeee?"(might be the filled partner slot on the profile???)). I've been epically trolled and stalked but that isn't the same thing at all.
  18. Not a peeve: Running into @Scylla Rhiadra at her gallery showing of "Geometries of the Human" a few days ago. (If you haven't seen it, I would highly suggest it. The images are stunning, the quotes that go with are a perfect addition, everything is just so well done. (I'll be expecting my L$ kickback soon, Scylla...)) Not a peeve: Hearing that Genus has FINALLY updated their heads. omg. And I just multi-multi posted on a related thread about that on another subforum. Totally fainting in disbelief. PEEVE: Being unable to move my avatar around effectively in SL because I have been inworld so rarely. In SL I use the arrow keys for movement. I've been playing a lot of Vintage Story and use WASD. My fingers can't figure out the difference. Also, Peeve Corollary: I can't figure out my viewer any more! Trying to cam around Scylla's exhibit was rather laughable. Le sigh. PEEVE: It is becoming obvious to me (has for months), that hanging out in the SL Forums kept me somewhat informed on what is going on inworld. If I hadn't run into Scylla, I would have never have learned of the Genus update. Posting in another thread I learn that Lara X is coming out soon. Heaven only knows what else I don't know about. I've never been all that tech-savvy in SL (don't feel like spending the time to get a PhD in SL), but yikes... I'm peeved that that might mean I spend more time back here. Maybe. Dunno. But I don't like not knowing BASIC stuff, ya know? PEEVE: After seeing Scylla's exhibit, my fingers (that can't stop using WASD), really want to take some photos again in SL but my computer just is NOT up to it, not where it would be enjoyable, and so... pout. I can't/won't. ETA. PS: Yes, I know I can change my preferences to use WASD in SL. But that would eliminate the need to whine.
  19. ditto. As I just typed. I even did the rare (for me) follow on Discord and it became such a bad meme/joke I stopped & so without an accidental meeting of someone who had the news, I never would have learned of the update (or it would have been really late).
  20. Lara X around the corner? Geebus, I don't know any of these new things... And "ooooooh!"
