Suella/Ciaran - Yes, we  beta tested the new community platform with several Residents under NDA  and their NDA is still in place. We will be sharing more about it in a  few weeks tho!

Chinco  - Yes, I’ve received several requests for a Land User Group and  evaluating who should lead the group and when to start it up. I’ll let  you know more as I do.

Ossian/Rauol/Jilla and the rest of folks who  commented on Facebook.--We do not depend on Facebook/Twitter to  communicate with you, but since so many of our Residents are using these  social platforms, it makes sense for us to be where you are--from a  communication perspective--in addition to being inworld and using  inworld communication tools. Today, most smart businesses use social  media to reach out to customers, get feedback, etc. and we are not only  using them, but also providing clarity on which ones are best for  different types of communication and audiences. That said, it’s  completely opt-in.  And, more importantly, using these social networks  is an effective way to reach new potential customers and grow Second  Life. That sounds pretty good to everyone, right? And, I understand  about potential privacy concerns. You’re welcome to check out the Second  Life Facebook page without Liking us and we always post cool stuff in  the Destination Guide and on SL.com. Again, Facebook isn’t the only way  we get the word out on happenings--just one more great feed to subscribe  to, if you like.

Maelstrom/Cully--Lindens  scan the Forums frequently, but due to the overwhelming amount of  activity in the Forums, it’s impossible for us to respond to each topic.  As we roll out the new community platform, you’ll see sections to the  new Forums added that correspond to some of the User Groups and the User  Group lead will be responsible for reading the section on their area of  expertise/focus and jump in periodically with comments.  If you have  feedback for us, I suggest you attend some of the User Groups.

VooDoo/Nathaniel/Medhue/Ann/Mike--Great  question! Clearly an oversight on my part for not mentioning it  earlier. To join a User Group, you just pop into their public meetings  listed on the User Group page. No sign up sheets and no hassle. And, no  special passwords. And, Ann--glad you like the calendar!

Toysolider--Wow. I  think I need to reread this a few times. Very thoughtful and thorough  response. You are absolutely right--the need to take a strategic look at  all of our communication channels catalyzed much of what I shared  today. It’s a start and it’s going to evolve and get better over time.  I’m really looking forward to launching the new community platform and  getting your thoughts re: how it addresses some of your core concerns.  Let’s keep this dialogue going! I love it and will continue to reference  this comment, and others here, as we move forward.

Prok--I was waiting  for you to chime in. I hear you and wanted to thank you for sharing  your thoughts on JIRA.

Winter--I think you’re gonna like what you  see. Looking forward to hearing  your thoughts when we launch the new  Forums!

Mike--Thanks  for your thoughtful posts.. See my comments above to Toysoldier.

WADE1/Janet  - Wow, glad you’ve noticed. Thanks for sharing!!

Lexbot--You’re  absolutely right! One of the most important parts about User Groups is  that we’re going to try to create a more representative group of  Residents who can share their feedback and experiences from their unique  perspectives. It’s up to each group, and the User Group leader, to  determine what the right mix will be for each one.

To everyone who has  posted comments--I truly appreciate that you took the time to read the  post and share your thoughts. Let’s keep the conversation going!!

Hi Amanda, I'm listening to what you say and it's very important to me.

Question is... do you believe me or am I just trying to calm you into being quiet and going away?

  2. Unless you're running a Mac, then your "new tech" crashes every 5 minutes.

Even on a Windows box, until these things can be performed with the same ease as V1, there's no way most of us who actually perform these tasks will move to V2:

    Hosting Events

    Being a DJ

    Playing Live Music

    Building

    Operating an Entertainment Venue

    Operating a Retail Business

    Operating an Estate

    Scripting

As you see, those that attract people to SL and provide the content for the masses to enjoy are the ones left to adjust to all those bad decisions by the Lab Policymakers.

I am enjoying the server improvements - and when Kelly gets back we hopefully *fingers crossed* will get the now-failed MONO project fixed (finally) so we can start having large events and less script lag again. This will be a huge deal, fixed only 2 years after we started having problems with it...

As much as we've seen things start to move in the right direction after Kingdon was booted out, there's a long way to go before I'm convinced policy is being made by competent leadership.

  3. Torley, I'm a big fan, we even made a game with a watermelon theme. I'll send you one if you like. You'd love it...

However,  until a Resident can run an Estate, operate a store, host live events, host a DJ, be a DJ, perform live music, build, animate, perform general tasks - or do most of the things that actually draw new residents into SL on a V2 viewer... I'll pass, it's just unable to match up to the V1.23.

And I certainlty won't suggest that piece of feces 2.4 viewer. Man, it's bad...

You ask us to accomplish the Lab's work for them, but you give us crappy tools.

    We deserve better.

I love YOU, but but the V2 project is unmitigated garbage. It's going nowhere. Fast.

It's beneath you to even suggest it's use. It's costs you respect.

Good Luck, you'll need it. Best wishes.

    Linden Lab's New CEO

Good Luck Rod, your predecessor was a closet-case of incompetence and fabrications, so we don't really have much in the way of expectations. Leadership would be a good place to start, I suppose.

I think we've had all our expectations beaten out of us. So many truly bad ideas were implemented because the Lab has been a "brick wall with a smiley-face painted on it" and refused to listen to it's own customers. Ignoring all the PR Happy-Talk, you'll get an eyeful of what the Lab is really like soon enough.

If I had a hope... and I refuse to have any hope again for SL, been burned too many times... it would be that you pay attention to your existing customers that actually pay the bills, rather than chase mythical "millions" of imaginary residents that simply don't exist. Previous administrations have lost more customers with their ignorant ham-fisted policies while chasing that illusion than you can ever hope to gain.

    Again, Good Luck.

With that board looking over your shoulder, you'll need it.

If XStreet could manage it, why can't Linden Lab?

Because Apotheus and Co. were actually competent and genuinely cared about having a superior product and providing services that the customers wanted..

Unlike "Commerce Team" that changes it's roster ever month. And provides "services" that no one wants and only serves to suck money out of pockets while providing less actual service.

  5. Millions of adults are being asked to change a heckuva lot just for a few kids, not even half 1% of  logins.

I resent the hell out of that.

The main point, one i probably should state stronger, is that the main grid was never intended for 16 year-olds - there are things that I run into on the grid that squick me out completely, and I have a pretty strong consititution for that sort of thing.

Without any controls or oversight, the Lab is going to subject kids to stuff that they really shouldn't see or hear. I know for a fact that General sims aren't all exactly G like they're supposed to be... I saw a strip club, complete with pics of nude avs on the wall and lapdance/private room price signs in a PG region just last month.

I'm not trying to be a mean old bastard that wants to keep the kids off my lawn...  I just want to not have to make so many changes to the regions I own, for something that's going to end up a total mess anyways. This is like OpenSpaces and Zindra all over again. Complete with the lies, half-truths and evasions coming from Jack.

I have no worries at all about the kids themselves behaving like kids. You'll all find a place, hopefully, and start building communities that suit you. A few will act like total retards, much like many adults on the grid. It won't come as a surprise. With a little luck, not too many of you will fall prey to the scammers and predators that are sure to flock in your direction.

This move is a bad bad idea from so many perspectives that there's no real way to get behind any of it.

    Good Luck

  6. Nope, I've never seen a group for a club or store on regular mature land have to bother with an 18+ age requirement, since everyone was supposed to already be an adult.

And I seriously doubt more kids will come to SL than already have, it's too boring for most.

PG should have been the Ghetto-ed setting, not Zindra.
