This happens to my sisters everytime she drinks. OMG! I thought you knew me better than that! I would never, even under extreme duress, mix rum with a foul substance like diet coke! I'm up for a good troll, by have you no shame woman???:smileyvery-happy: my apologies for being late to this thread. I'm still catching up, but Ima dear, we've been over this before, haven't we? Diet Coke is most certainly not foul! Unless I run out, and then Zeke can tell you just how foul my mood will become. :matte-motes-mad:
  2. RockAndRoll Michigan wrote: As a long-time SL DJ, I have to disagree. The best parties are the parties where people actually hold conversations. You do remember conversations right? I say something on my mind and other people respond to it. This is not possible with gestures. It's also a major block to conversation when you are in a club and you run into this (note that the names have been made up, to protect the guilty): I agree with this so wholeheartedly! I rarely use gestures myself because I HATE how hard it is to follow an actual conversation when a screen is filled with chat gestures and I have to scroll back very far to see very little actual conversation. Sorry friends of mine who use them. I don't hate you for it, honest. I do secretly wish you'd use them a little less often, though. Caveat: I have in fact actually created two gestures, both for Dillon's surprise bday party, and one of them even used (gasp!) sound! I was pretty proud of myself for figuring out how to do that. When Dillon arrived to her party and we all used the "surprise" gesture, you actually heard a crowd yelling "Surprise!" It was perfectly and beautifully timed.
  3. Wow, Dillon, you have a good eye. I didn't even notice that it was in French! I'm glad you like the French version.
  4. Morning, everyone! I got a couple of pics from from the party last night, too, but they're on my computer at home. I'll try to post them tonight.

    Alts

Me too, Tako. I'm technically an alt, but this is my main avi. My original avi I created for work and she only logs in in that context, which is rare. As for the question in the OP, I'm with Immy on this. "It's not the alt. It's what you do with the alt." As long as you aren't using the alt to cheat, deceive, etc., I really don't see what the issue is.
  6. I'm a little fuzzy on exactly how the "SLum" title came to be since the whole system came into being when I was away from the forums for a bit, but I think it's an acronym some of the early adopters came up with. I think it's something like Second Life User Messaging. I'm nearly positive this is not the actual SL name for it, though. Oh, where IS Keli when you really need her? She's an expert at this!
  7. I have a follower too! I feel so popular! :matte-motes-sunglasses-3: But now what is the proper etiquette? Should I follow back? Then it might look like I only followed that person because they followed me first, and so my follow may not seem very sincere. But if I don't follow them back it might hurt their feelings because they stuck their neck out there to follow me first and let me know they were interested in what I have to say. It's all so confusing. My brain hurts. I think I need a nap. :matte-motes-asleep:

  9. I keep thinking about our outing last night and I just have to comment on how well done Magicland is. There is a lot of time and effort and love of all things Disney that went into creating that place. The attention to detail is really magnificent, and the number of attractions they have managed to duplicate is astounding. We were there for well over two hours and I still don't think we saw everything. I am a big fan of Disney (annual passholder more often than not), and it was such a pleasure to share that last night with some of my SL friends. It really was like a day in the park with them. In my "research" for this event, I also went to Wedcot, which is the SL version of Epcot. Again, very well done. In Wedcot, I could point out to you the spot where my family and I sit in the China pavilion in RL Epcot to watch the chinese acrobats, the bench on the rotunda of the America pavilion where we sit when my RL brother-in-law sings, and the red phone booth in the UK pavilion where we always stuff the kids for pictures. I think our next event should be to check out Wedcot. I'll be the tour guide. :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:

  15. I must know Peewee, how'd you do that without getting electrocuted?
  16. I agree, it's been wonderful to see some of the old familiar names posting again. I too hope they stay!
  17. Darrius! I haven't seen you around in ages. I thought maybe I was just hanging out in the wrong places. Good to see you!
  18. Being practically a native Floridian, I don't have much actual experience with autumn except for four years that I spent on a picturesque New England college campus. But my whole life, I've had this crazy sort of romanticized view of autumn with foliage, apple orchards, cider, cinnamon, hot chocolate, warm colors, cozy sweaters, friends gathered 'round the fireplace, and crisp tempartures that turn your cheeks rosy. Maybe it's because I have a fall birthday, but the idea of fall has always appealed to me, and it's always felt like the season that most "fit" my personality. Autumn feels like a time for reflection, perhaps because of shortening days, and trees shedding their leaves, and people beginning to spend more time indoors as the temperature drops; more of a family time, and a time for deeper conversations with friends and loved ones. The thought of fall, or at least the idealized version of fall that exists in my head, always makes me feel invigorated and introspective at the same time.
  19. My eyes in RL look blue or green, depending on what I wear, though most people tell me they are blue. My eyes in SL are close to my RL color, but maybe a little darker.
  20. I am most likely to be found wearing this hat, a gift from Dillon many moons ago.
  21. Of course I wouldn't mind, Pamela. I'd be honored to have that info added to your blog! :matte-motes-bashful-cute:
  22. Mickey, I of course can't speak for everyone in the group either, but I've always kind of looked on the group title as a play on stereotypes, since in my experience we're really quite the opposite of the image that such a name evokes. We don't take ourselves seriously in the slightest. We just hang out a lot together in-world, and forming a group was the most logical way to communicate our goings on. Unfortunately the group name has sort of taken on a life of its own here in the forum, with the consequence that anyone who is a member of the group is saddled with a label. That's something I feel bad about, watching the 'us' v. 'them' stuff that's gone on here. I think Dillon has it right, though, that most of the group members are working on getting better at not contributing to that. And I think you have it right to focus your opinions of people based on your individual exchanges with them. That's kind of the beauty of a forum like this. We can all clash sometimes, but we can also learn a heck of a lot from others when we take the time to communicate, and maybe learn a little about ourselves in the process. I for one am always learning. I'd hate to be a part of any environment where that wasn't possible.

  24. I've talked about SL in a professional context with colleagues and clients as far as the pros and cons of virtual worlds for job training. Not many have expressed any real interest. Outside of that, the only two people I've actively recommended SL to are my RL husband and my RL sister. My husband joined, but hardly ever logs in. It's just not his thing. I also showed my sister a bit of SL while she looked over my shoulder one time when she was visiting, but I don't think she was highly impressed. I'm almost positive she never created an account. As for Myers-Briggs, I am an ISTJ. There was a thread about this on the old forum and I tallied everyone's responses at the time. Here were the final results based on a sample size of 50. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussions/Myers-Briggs-personality-types/m-p/447777#M210094 Of particular note (and quite telling about whom SL is most likely to appeal to): The IN's make up over half of the forum population who responded to the thread (58%). The I's dominated the E's (82% v. 18%) The N's dominated the S's (70% v. 30%). The correlation in percentages between the GD forum population and the general population is completely inverse.
  25. I'm so glad to see this thread. I almost started one just like it on songs you're embarrassed to admit you like, but I never got around to it. I'm glad you did it instead! The downside, of course, is that now I'm forced to admit to being a sucker for Air Supply and Barry Manilow. *hangs head in shame* And Xanadu? I love that movie! In fact, seeing those songs here just drove me to Netflix where I discovered that it is available on my instant streaming account! I just added it to my queue and am SO going to watch it this week!!!!
