  1. Go to Cowell. Wonderful sim, next to Abbotts. A beautiful fishing village by the sea. You can sit there and relax... until one of those £)=$£ ice cream trucks comes FLOATING by. In the &=$?" WATER. Playing that terrible tune to boot. This woman uses the ugliest freebie cars, lets them run anywhere, andf they don't budge for legitimate road or waterway users like me. If I find a way to make these things return to her inventory, by God I will do it.
  2. What I'd like to know is why I cannot see lots of reviews, even though there are some. In about 75% of the cases, no reviews show up - it just says that there are for example nine reviews - but you can't read them.
  3. Not sure what the exact problem is, but if you freeze after login, you may be in a region with too much lag so you keep crashing when you go back. Try this: In the startup screen, where it says "Start at:" type Mohrr. That is a largely empty region with one tiny island. When you're logged in, go to Preferences in the top menu, and see if your Graphics settings are not set to maximum. If they are, try setting them back to 'Mid'. That should help against overlaoding your system on startup. If all that doesn't help, the people on the Forum would need more information before we can really help you.
  4. You should also be able to mute the object playing the vid if you can locate it. Right-click should do it. Don't have the exact string of commands in my head right now but you probably know how to.
  5. Right now, the Abuse Report window gives you hard-to-grasp descriptions of various infractions of the ToS and I am wondering if there is a description somewhere (NOT meaning that outdated video, tyvm!) which tells you in simple words when to use what. You know, what to do with racism, self-replicating spam boxes, sound and particle spam - the most common problems.
  6. All of you mention great spots. My terse reply 'Cowell' doesn't do the Mainland justice. The other day I followed the river eastwards from Cowell, through Noyo, Davenport, Bodega etc. on my boat and I discovered a whole new world there. The mainland looks dramatically different from the water and especially there, in Myrtle and surroundings, I found a pleasant diversity that was tied together by the waterways - something lacking around Linden roads where people often just build along the road with no real connection to it. Somehow water invites to connect more and build a dock, put out a boat or a water scooter, creating a very lively atmosphere. Maybe it's because I'm Dutch and water is everywhere in Holland, and maybe it's because I no longer live in Holland, but I love it.
  7. Do not advertise their success. Take down the video.
  8. The Forums to me are not social media. So no, I don't make friends here - I know there is that possibility but no. If someone is really interesting I might look them up in-world.
  9. Wij zijn overal. Dat verbaast me nog steeds.
  10. What do you mean, an avatar for Second Life or one for the Forums? Avatars for Second Life you can buy or make yourself. You can right-click on your avatar and choose Edit Shape. Most people are never done editing their avatar o it's OK if you don't get it right the first time. Avatars for the Forums you can make in My Settings (top right of page), then Avatars and Social Connect.
  11. You Abuse Report any griefing you encounter, then you block the griefers (or the griefing objects), then you go away. They want a response - don't give it to them. Don't counter-grief, don't reply, don't start a fight. Block them, calmly write an AR, and then be done with it. Tell others to do the same: AR; block, and ignore. And don't create drama in the Forums about griefing, or post pictures of griefing exploits. All of that spells 'success' to them. They crave the attention - do not give it to them. Cheers, Tish Coronet Griefed since Nov of 2006 :-)
  12. My avatar is by far the creation I am most proud of. I don't care much about clothing, a lot of what I wear is stuff I make myself.
  13. Make a texture, 1000 square (for ease of calculations) and divide this into 100 small squares, 10 by 10 like a checkerboard. You can then subdivide these squares into even smaller ones.Number the squares and give them different background colours per row. Apply the texture to the sculpty - one on one, i.e. without repeats. Make snapshots from every angle so you know where the texture stretches or wobbles. Now go back to your image editor and create what you need to see on the sculpty, on a layer on top of the squares texture. That gives you the best control. Here's one example picture in my Flickr stream. You can tell that I need to make my airplane windows around squares 65 and 66. (My squares texture is not as good as it could be, mind you) http://www.flickr.com/photos/56864191@N05/5312275050/ HTH, Tish C.
  14. My guess is that you have griefer objects. Ask the sim owner to restart the sim; in the meantime, look for spinning cubes or other objects that so not belong there, and right-click on them. Then choose 'block' to stop the noise. Then please click again and choose Report Abuse. Try to fill out the form as best you can. Ask others to do the same!
  15. Simple. Open the texture from your inventory. If you have full permissions, there is a Save As button on the bottom right. If the texture is not full permissions you are unable to download it.
  16. It could be displayed, for starters. Maybe that is why they initially left out rez dates - to make room for this. But that's all speculation, of course.
  17. "I think the whole subject is just tiresome and we'd all be better off just ignoring it." Oh dear, did I give you a headache dear? I don't do conspiracies about 'secret powers' but if I put two and two together - meaning 1) the disappearance of rez date in Profiles a few weeks back, since then hastily reinstated, and 2) Hamlet (Linden) Au pleading to import this rank system in-world, and 3) the fact that an opt-out was excluded by Lexie in anticipation, before anyone knew what was happening, I am afraid I am going to have to tire your frail self a bit more. This seems to be meant as the future for Second Life. And I want nothing of it. And I will voice my protest until I take the final conclusion - if they don't kick me out first. If that tires you, I suggest you go to My Avatar and babble about hair to collect more brownie points, which you don't get in Off-Topic anyway. I don't, and I won't, do ranks. And I most certainly do not accept any rank based on handing out stock Mentor 'help' replies like 'open a ticket'. Been there, done that, got kicked out by Mia. Better stock up on Aspirin missy. I ain't done yet.
  18. I am wondering what the good people at Linden Lab think we are. Little kids longing for a pat on the back? Workfloor drones, content with an automated (and therefore meaningless) recognition from Management? In my spare time I do not wish to be confronted with low level management trickery like 'ranks', complete with that phoney phrase "As the result of your contributions to the community, you have earned a new rank." No, I have "earned" a new rank because this forum is programmed like that. Pull the other one. Some may have the impression that Lexie has actually read your contributions and decided to bump you up. That is, however, not how it works. But people will still feel entitled, entirely without justification, just because they like to believe that they have really achieved something, and they have really been 'recognized'. I've seen that when I was a Mentor. If ever a group of people tried to boss around other people on the basis of a wholly unjustified sense of superiority, it was them. Me too - I'll be the first to admit that. Ranks should go. I recognize no rank whatsoever, noone has any kind of authority over me whatsoever, and I certainly do not wish to exert any authority over others. If ranks are not removed from this forum, I demand the right to opt out on the grounds of incompatibility with my innermost convictions.
  19. I'm having the same problem. Aristotle Inc., the company that does the actual verification, does not have access to European data as they are protected. A nion-governmental entity cannot see them, therefore Aristotle cannot verify anything. They don't tell you that - instead they let you send your data over and over again. Something which is not a good idea in any situation. Raising a support ticket like Suella says? The Lab says there is a special ticket, but I never found it. Plus, you need to have a paid account to raise tickets, if I remember correctly. The Lab also offers a survey but the link takes you back to the startup screen for the verification process. It just does not work.
  20. Now then, I still have my 2007 vintage Booperfunk hair. And I'm "still rockin my khakis with a cuff and a crease". Err, well, ok, maybe not. But Tish C is right back upon top o'things. "Nine five plus four pennies - add that s**t up."
  22. By the way, giving landmarks to the language/country communities inworld does a lot of good. That works every time.
  23. I was kidding about the payments. I had a shop once, remember? It wasn't much but it wasn't a freebie palace either. Lighten up a bit will you?
  24. We're colleagues, I know. Interesting question. The five to ten things you must know to get started. Search is definitely important. Communication (chat, voice chat, IM) is as well. Moving about, especially teleporting since the actual moving is very logical (one of the few things which are!). Paying (I added this to humour you of course ;-) ) is important. Marketplace is, but I am not sure if it has settings in different languages at all. I'm sure people will come up with more.
