  1. Remember this girl? She's been given a makeover! I bought the dress at Midsummer Enchantment and the hair at the Hair Fair. Everything else is free from various places. My avatar characters are constructed from freebies, but then they develop a style of their own and I find myself looking for clothes that matches them. And then I wind up spending money on them! Free samples really do increase sales, I guess.
  2. Instead of unpacking a giant pile of freebies I've been meaning to sort through (and drawing more profiles for my avatar girls) I just spent like three days on these: So now I know how to make kemono skins! In other news I picked up a bunch of freebies at the Hair Fair and Crystal Heart and I gotta sort through them, there's probably some good stuff I can use for my characters.
  3. For the first two days I was unable to even get into the fair, and once I got in it would barely load for me. That's mostly my fault, my internet connection isn't great. I'm pretty sure there are freebies I wasn't able to pick up because they hadn't fully loaded and I didn't know they were there. I bought two hairs (and tried two demos that ended up not working for me) and might go back for a third. The dryad hair by Aii is really neat and I'd be able to build an entire character around it, if I wanted.
  4. By the way...I thought to myself that I could try making makeup, and I made this lipstick: It's really basic, I can probably do better now that I've got a better feel for the head UV map. I can upload the tattoo for real (this was just a local preview) and stick it in the marketplace as a freebie if people actually want it?
  5. Pleased to see you guys like it! I used some of that commission money to get a few things for that work in progress fox girl, who is now complete: The character concept here would look great with a fancier furry avatar underneath it but part of the fun for me was taking a very old, free avatar and making it work.
  6. Maybe I should've drawn Ayaka AFTER doing this to her face: Her body is still medium standard but I've tweaked her face shape and added new makeup. I'll probably switch between this new hair and her old hair occasionally. I like having the option to not have her hair falling around her shoulders and clipping through neckwear, but I also like her old pigtails just in general. Got this new hair as a lucky letter from a place called Escalated.
  7. I took a little time off from Second Life to work on my other projects (which I had been lagging behind on), but I do have some stuff to share. Firstly I went ahead and made a Flickr. There's not much on it yet, but since I can post directly from SL it'll probably fill up quick. A lot of my pictures are going to be of this particular avatar girl: She has a name! I'm going to start treating my different avatars as separate characters. Normie is the result of me wanting an average-looking, average-proportioned body to try clothes on with. I'm going to eventually make small profiles for each character and they'll all have their own Flickr albums. There's also an album for items I'm selling. I've started doing a little more with full perm mesh, and now I have a few dresses for sale. I needed an avatar to model the dresses, and since they're all really brightly colored I figured a darker skin would look good against it. Inevitably that turned into the creation of another character: One of my own dresses is part of her standard everyday outfit because her whole design was essentially built around it. And as a side note, here's a work in progress girl: She doesn't have a full outfit yet, but I'm thinking she's going to be dressed in a lot of white or spooky, ghosty things. I might want to accessorize her with more furry parts. Perhaps a new tail?
  8. Today I presented myself with a challenge: The pants are actually the inspiration for this look. I had picked up a free box of 'goth clothes,' and finally finished sorting through it. A bunch of the items were straight up broken, some were repeats of the same item under different names, and all of them were ancient. These asymmetrical leggings were interesting enough that I figured I could make an outfit out of them. I picked some more black clothes and then went for contrasty bright colors for the body and hair. The challenge? Under her hair, two eyeshadows, two lipsticks, some blush, glittery eyebrows, and false eyelashes, she looks like this: This skin is actually part of a furry mod kit that I don't have the mesh parts for. I picked it up anyways because its free and came with ears and a tail. The face of the skin is uncolored because it's supposed to be covered by a head. I covered her in makeup tattoo layers and tweaked her face shape to downplay her unshaded nostrils and lips. The end result is pretty good from a distance. I've also discovered the wonderful concept of full perm mesh, so now I can make textures without having to worry about learning 3d! I've got a bunch of dresses I'm working on, but to start I've got a listing for a scarf up on the marketplace: The fun thing about this scarf mesh is that there really aren't seams to worry about. I could make a million of these if I wanted. If I start doing a lot of these maybe I WILL set up a Flickr to post them to instead of slipping them in with my avatar posts.
  9. I'm absolutely ready! Are we talking about doing a drawing like the ones in this thread? Full color with a simple background?
  10. I have a whole huge folder labeled 'fursuits' but haven't really used most of them. I was determined to make a hyena character, and somehow she ended up extremely quirky. I had originally tried putting some solid color dresses on her, but couldn't find leggings to compliment them. Somehow these matchy-clashy prints clicked a lot better. Once it was established that she wanted to be a tropical hippie, the martini necklace and the hair flower were obvious choices. My friend said this outfit looks like something a fun elementary school teacher would wear. I'm the hyena version of Ms. Frizzle I guess.
  11. Well I was thinking I should do SOMETHING more than a forum thread, but I hadn't considered a Flickr. I'll look into it!
  12. Thank you! That's more or less what I wish I was actually doing for a living. As it is, I mostly draw webcomics and stuff. This is a look that came together as I was unpacking some freebies. I happened to pick up a bunch of stuff that matched all at the same time and threw it together. The choker with the little bow was from a gacha, everything else was free. I'm completely enamored with the dress right now. And here's a new look for my wolf girl. Everything here was free except the pants...which were also free. One of the gifts I picked up in the SL14B shopping event was a gift card for a store. I actually own several pairs of what I call 'carpet pants' IRL, they've become my current go-to look. If a fabric looks like a 70s rug or a grandma's couch, I want it on my legs. In the process of picking out the pants I picked up a bunch of demos of other items too, and I'm keeping them just in case I ever wanna spend some actual money. So I guess the gift card was a good marketing move on the store's part!
  13. I picked up the BladenCat Mk7, because I wouldn't say no to a free furry avatar. A wig fit nicely on her with minimal adjustments, and I was pleased to see that some lolita stuff I had picked up (at a place called Picopure, it has prize campers as well as regular freebies) fit perfectly. The only thing that didn't work was the classic avatar shirt that formed the top of the dress. I tried a bunch of mesh tops and dresses but none of them could be resized or repositioned, so I slapped a bow on her boobies and that will be good enough for now I guess. A few dresses specifically for the BladenCat do exist and they're cheap, so I miiiight get one of those, at least to repurpose the top.
  14. I was surprised today with a gift! I now own this amazing bear costume. I look like I walked out of Ruby Gloom.
  15. My drawing tablet? An old Intuos 3, it's probably going on 10 years old now. I draw in GIMP 2.6.12 Finally drew my new Kemono! Nearly everything on her was free, except for the hair, which was 49L$ and came with the glasses as a bonus. She's about as small as the body shape can get her. I may change the way here ears and hat rest on her head.
  16. Good to know, thank you! I was gifted a Kemono body by an awesome new friend, and tonight I customized it. I haven't done a proper drawing yet, but we had a small dance party and I did a very quick scribble of it. I'm putting it in a link because of the vague suggestion of bulge on the one that isn't me. Not really NSFW but I prefer to always play it safe. I'll do a proper drawing of my new avatar tomorrow probably.
  17. I hope I don't anger any moderators with the quadruple post. People are still liking my posts even if they aren't responding, so I assume I have a reason to keep going? I continue to sort and tag my ridiculously bloated inventory. While doing so, this look just kind of emerged out of nowhere: She has mesh eyes (from the big shopping event) and I think they're not quite aligned perfectly, but I'm ignoring that for now. I really like her color scheme, which honestly isn't too far off from what I usually do with my human avatars, but even with all the black she doesn't feel like a goth. So I'm counting it as branching out.
  18. A friend shared with me a big pack of free stuff he found somewhere, and when I unboxed it there was a notecard inside that was all about defending copybotting and declaring that anyone who expects compensation for their work is a 'jew.' I'd find the notecard and ctrl+v it here but the contents would probably get me banned.
  19. For any style I'm gonna recommend this pack of leggings. Eight styles, they fit on lots of bodies, the top is included and it's all free. I just got them and they make great bases for minidresses.
  20. When searching the marketplace, set the price range to "0 to 0" and sort by "best selling" and you're more likely to find free stuff that isn't demos. I've found some really nice freebies at this shopping event, it's worth going to if your bandwidth can handle the large crowd.
  21. Not much to report atm. I picked up this awesome dress and thought I'd try to turn it into a 'me' avatar...but it doesn't really feel like me. This outfit is pure lolita when I usually veer more towards the gothy stuff. I started picking up some free poses so that my screencaps look better, at least!
  22. Sorry to double post, but it's been a while and if I keep editing my last post it'll look like there's nothing new. I'm really proud of my latest girl because she's really cool. Her head is actually a vase I picked up. I wanted something different for her top, but all the nice tops I've found have a boob shape built into them and this avatar body doesn't have a boob option. I'm interested in suggestions if anyone has some? Also: I uploaded my own shirt texture and then put it up for free on the marketplace. This is just a teeny tiny first step towards actually making things. What I'm probably going to do is put a bunch of older art onto shirts and offer them for really cheap (or free). This is the wrong place to chronicle that journey so if I wind up having a lot to say maybe I'll just move everything to a blog instead of using the forums? I don't know. I might not have a lot of new outfits/drawings incoming because I wanna take some time to sort through all the freebies I've amassed. I'm adding tags to the names of as many as I can so that I can search them easier. I'm also thinking, because I needed to get L$ to enable shop-having, I miiiight spend some money on a dress. I don't know which one though! It's a hard question because I have so many 'characters' now and I don't know which one I want to dress. Here's some I'm considering: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 I'm tossing some demos into my cart to help me decide. I'm also interested in any and all suggestions of places to get free stuff, clothes to match the styles of any of my existing avatar characters, names for them, and stuff like that.
  23. Today I tinkered around with a small avatar freebie I got from Curious Kitties. I guess this isn't what you'd call a mesh avatar, because it still uses the system eyes. While messing around with what does or does not fit on it properly, I learned that if you remove the original texture from something, you can't get it back. My first choice of cat ears is now missing its texture, which is fine because its a freebie that I could just go and re-get if I want to. In the process of googling why I couldn't restore the texture, I also learned the difference between 'prims' and 'perms.' EDIT: I am slowly becoming a veteran of putting wigs on animals
  24. Last night I decided to wander into a club area and was greeted by friendly people who taught me that alphas get 'added' not 'worn' and gave me some landmarks for places with better freebies. Picked some up and actually made an avatar that looks like she belongs amongst normal people. My preference for purple goth stuff is still very prevalent. She's sitting in a prize camping chair. When reading guides on Second Life I heard about camping chairs, then searching around for info on them I learned that they are almost non-existent now because of bot abuse. Makes sense. So I was pleasantly surprised to see that they still exist in non-linden-giving form. My current plan is to search around for more and let my societally presentable girl here idle in them while I do other things. Thanks to everyone for the kind words! EDIT: I encountered some cool furries today who were talking about avatars and someone linked this amazing fursuit, which I immediately put on. I recolored her and gave her a dress, a snack, and a little friend to play with.
  25. I actually joined this game like six years ago, but couldn't figure anything out, puttered around for like two days, and quit. A friend of mine suggested trying it again, so I went in and figured out my login, and arrived looking like this: So that was terrible. The hair, body shape, and skin are supposed to look like me. I forget where I got the outfit, but everything was free. In fact, everything I own now was also free. I haven't spent money on SL yet. Anyways, I logged in, was surprised to see how awkward I looked, and set out to find new clothes. I loaded up on free stuff and tossed some together into an outfit that was bad on purpose: Same skin and body, everything else is new. I kind of love her. Eventually I found clothes I liked and settled on this: I actually called this outfit 'me irl' even though it looks nothing like me (except the body shape, still the same). I think everything I'm wearing in that one is free stuff from Curious Kitties. If I ever actually spend some real money to get Lindens, it'll be for Curious Kitties stuff. All my avatars so far were short fat ladies, so I figured I should make an 'attractive' avatar and this happened: Honestly I think she's kinda ugly but I saved her because she's funny. I also found a box fulla free fursuits. A little bit after finding that I figured out that I could take parts of it off and put normal clothes over it, and this amazing mess happened: Right now I'm calling her Sexytron. Her tiny hands are a feature, not a bug. I settled on this for a simple, casual furry outfit for when I think it's necessary to be a furry. I have a second outfit of her dressed as a weird stripper but I didn't feel like drawing her twice. And finally, last night I figured I should have a fat character, a vampire character, and should utilize my box of fursuits more. So this happened: I actually took a human-sized wig and spent about an hour rearranging its individual hair chunks to sort of (sort of!) fit on the wolf head. So that's where my journey is now. I have a bunch of free junk I haven't even looked at or opened yet, so I think I'm gonna have fun making more ugly weird girls. Oh, and all these drawings were pretty quick doodles...I promise I can draw good when I wanna.
