  1. I was a Crux today! The Crux avatar is one that puzzled me for a while. I kept seeing them, and seeing mods for them, but couldn't find the avatar! So eventually I asked someone for a landmark to where they were sold, and it turns out they're free! I did some digging and it turns out the Crux avatar is ancient. The first version was from 2006, the one available for free is from 2008. It's made of prims (including invisiprims!) and has to be modded by dragging individual textures onto each piece, with no appliers. Despite being so old, I keep seeing Crux mods, including mods to match mesh bodies to the Crux head. As far as I can tell nobody's made a mesh Crux, they just put Crux heads or Crux fur patterns onto other meshes. The original creator's lore seems to have been wiped from the internet, but I knew there had to be a story here. Each Crux coloration has a latin name, instead of just being labeled by color, and they all have chest symbols. After putting together my Crux 'girl' (the avatars are labeled 'genderless') I went to the Crux Roadstead, which is where the avatars are distributed. It's this big wrecked up looking alleyway with furry shops just kind of shoehorned into grimy little nooks. There's a lounge down a dark alley, where I found some furries sitting around voice chatting about nothing in particular. There I got some advice for my avatar (the earrings don't move with the ears unless I anchor them right) and learned the lore behind Cruxes. Apparently they were made from a mix of alchemy and necromancy, using alien DNA, in an abandoned asylum. It's one of the most 2006 things I've heard in a while. Each Crux name and symbol is from alchemy, apparently. The Cruxes thought my avatar was pretty. :3 She's hacked together from freebies, and her coloration is a mix of one of the default Crux types and a rainbow mod I found.
  2. Yeah, it's no longer up as a group gift, but it was this head.
  3. Hmmm, it's been a while! I've spent a lot of time sorting through my inventory...then discovering more free stuff, and then having to sort through it. There's so many hunts in October that I got really sidetracked! Anyways my biggest new acquisitions were the TMP free body and an Akeruka mesh head that was a free group gift. I've never tried to adjust a mesh head, so this was pretty different for me: The free TMP body doesn't allow clothing layers, but I had already picked up tons of free mesh with a TMP fitted version. The free body doesn't have high feet, so I wound up basing the whole outfit around the flat shoes I had. Still looks pretty good. The AK head is Omega compatible so I could play around with makeup, which is fun. I don't have the animation hud for the head though, so she's got a perpetual bored scowl. I think I'll just form her personality around that face. In other news, it's Halloween: I was just playing around with stuff, and this looked pretty cute. I actually made that top texture myself, for the default Kemono top. I made a free version too, in monochrome...which I later realized made it tintable.
  4. I have a Bladen Cat! It's really hard to find tops that fit them (some of the marketplace clothing just use a complete texture mods to add a top to all the default skins), so I use a hair bow that I resized and repositioned to cover the chest. Flexi skirts will be your friend, you can squish them to fit almost anything. And I use an A&A hair with some of its prims stretched or hidden to make it fit. CK Nyanotech hairs are also pretty good for rearranging to fit on furry heads. You basically have to go in and select individual chunks of hair to move or resize. It takes a while but it works. Anything fitted or rigged is a lost cause unless it's specifically made for the Bladen Cat. This is my Bladen look: Skirt, puffy sleeves, and hat are from a place called Picopure, which is an ancient store you should be able to find in an in-world search. They have a bunch of freebies and campers. Hair is A&A, I can't remember the name of it right now but they have a lot of freebies. I had to mess with the back pieces a bit but the front worked stunningly. The bow is from Chus! and is infinitely useful. Oh, and this Catnip Loveotomy mesh top is unrigged, so I was able to make it fit.
  5. Let's see if I can get it to work... I can double click to resize an uploaded image but not an embedded one. Oh well. I made this girl today just to try out a freebie dog avatar I picked up. I mixed in parts from other free avatars and then stuck on some wings I had gotten out of a gacha. The horse legs aren't too well connected but I like the concept. If I ever picked up some mesh hooves I could probably recreate this look on my Kemono.
  6. I went searching for stuff around that one renaissance faire that's happening right now. I spawned in dressed as my wolf girl because that's what I'd been wearing last, then realized she should at least be dressed appropriately. So I took the top from a medieval costume dress and found a flexi bottom that matched her color scheme. Added a different hair and walked around like this: And yesterday I had the idea to use one of the many, many ancient freebie animal avatars I've picked up and see if I can repurpose it as an anthro. I couldn't get the legs to stick on properly (probably because I was overlapping onto a Kemono body) and the whole thing is still very lumpy and primmy but I found it interesting. I drew her the way she'd ideally look if I were able to build her from the ground up. Also I realized Flickr links embed as images. But they're huge, and it looks like resizing them isn't an option like with uploaded files...?
  7. Looks like the Orange Nova tumblr was active as recently as one week ago, and they take asks. It's worth a try if you haven't already. Looking through their posts, it looks like they very recently released a major project (Dvalinn Deer) and have at least two more they're working on, as well as having a new job that has taken time away from SL projects. Since Nauha's an older project they probably haven't thought about updating it and probably don't have an incentive to right now. A sudden rise in interest might change that? There are posts suggesting their plans are at least a little pliable based on sales/feedback.
  8. I use an outfit that's completely system layers except for a mesh hair. Even the shoes are system (they're terrible looking and I dug them out of a large, glitched out box of free 'goth clothes'). My internet connection isn't great so if I'm trying to shop or explore I wanna be as low lag as possible. I might start doing that full body alpha idea though.
  9. I found a place selling fatpacks of old hairs for like 50L and got one. It's unrigged, so I was hoping I could angle it right for a furry head. No luck, but I got close: This hair will still look good on a human avatar (or maybe on a Kemono) so I'm still happy with it.
  10. I'm taking that as a challenge! And since @Ivanova Shostakovich is preparing refs for a mermaid, I figured its a good time to look at some mermaid stuff I got as freebies a while back. I'm pretty sure this predates mesh by years because it's mostly a leg texture meant to work with an AO. I combined it with some furry parts to make a Worse Avatar: And then I made a Bad Drawing: Well I also made this, though: Her name is Merlona the Merfox. Like merlot, because she's grape-colored. She's not officially a complete avatar yet, I might go back and tweak her. She currently has a purple wolf's tail sticking out of her butt-like region above the mermaid tail, but it's clustered with a bunch of fins so I might need to simplify.
  11. I wound up creating a character because I had found a hair and dress that matched, and wanted to keep them together. The end result is this girl: I haven't finalized anything for her as a character but for now I'm thinking her name is gonna be Juko. She might become my shoe model, because I was gifted the deluxe pack for Slink feet and now I can wear shoes that don't completely cover the foot!
  12. The only full mesh avatar I have currently is the Kemono. I guess I could walk around in just the head or just the body but its a bit of a style clash. If I had to pick one part of the classic avatar body to replace with mesh, it'd be the feet. I don't own Slink feet (yet) but overwhelmingly the shoes I see on the marketplace are rigged for Slink. Sometimes I can make a Slink boot work with an alpha and a shoebase but most of the time I'm out of luck. Slink feet are definitely my next major purchase, I'm just dragging my heels (ha) about it.
  13. I started sorting through some hairs, and turned it into a fun game where I messed around with poses and an emoter. And then I drew them. I gave this character bigger eyes than a realistic human could possibly have, but otherwise she's realistic enough to make a decent reference model. After doing the basic lines I scribbled loosely in all these grays to build an illusion of artsiness, like this was concept art for something.
  14. @pudgyfurby The fitted tee is fitted to the avatar shape in ways that the kemono body doesn't always match. Try messing with the sliders for hips? I know that if you increase the boobs on your shape, the shirt will act like there's boobs even though the kemono chest stays the same.
  15. Yesterday I spent a little time tagging and organizing some freebies I got. There's screencaps on my Flickr, I only decided to draw one of them: I should start drawing more of the outfits I find, it might make me more motivated to sort through my inventory. Lately I've spent more focus on my webcomic, but drawing avatars is a good warmup before tackling a page.
  16. Ears: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Paws-Big-Ears/4101594 Many Kemono mods include PAWS Big Ears textures because they're free and thus pretty common. I'm using this: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/KW-Raspberry-Yogurt-cat/6647958 The shirt: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/FREE-Fitted-Kemono-Tshirt-sd/9510852 I tinted the shirt purple and threw on a plaid texture. I'm pretty sure the plaid was one of these: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/GIFT-I-Shabby-Check-Fabric-I-43-Full-Perm-SEAMLESS-Textures/2652892 But I can't remember for sure because the purple tint kinda masks it. While I'm at it, eyes: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Free-Gift-Black-Hole-Kemono-Eye-Textures/7465258 Hat (I tinted it): https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/KyuT-Sailor-Cap-Free-Gift/8012546 And the hair/glasses set, the only thing I paid for: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Project-Hair-Mega-Drive/9565549 I'd also recommend investing a little L$ in the Krankhaus hoodies. They're fairly cheap and a lot of other creators have made free or cheap texture mods for them, so its like getting a fatpack of colors, with a little assembly required. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/145129/search?utf8=✓&search[category_id]=&search[maturity_level]=GMA&search[keywords]=kemono+hoodie
  17. Attainable goals! The only thing I paid for was the hair (search for [Project Hair]). Everything else was free on the marketplace.
  18. Still haven't revisited the fairy idea. I keep getting distracted by video games and work. But, I went to the Gothic Garage Sale and got some new boots. This character might not look familiar...but she's basically a revamp of one of my first avatars: I just couldn't look at that hair anymore. So I fixed her up all fancy. I also finished uploading and listing all my silly bunny pictures. I'll just link the fatpack.
  19. Those examples look to be roughly the same proportions I use. This is all sliders: You can also freely resize the Kemono head (the other Utilizator heads should be the same) so you can make it bigger to make the body look smaller.
  20. Thanks for the words of support! Even if I wind up not going with my dream school, I could probably just go into the local community college...but I wanna aim high. Anyways I have a new relevant Art: The avatar is a work in progress, but I started it without knowing what I wanted for it. And now I've sketched out roughly what I'd change with the current version. I mostly want new leggings and wings, both of which I could probably make myself with a little learning. Leg textures are probably not too hard, and I think with wings I just need to stick a 2d image onto a prim or something. I don't need them to flap or anything like that. There are paler green skins on the market I can pick up too.
  21. All times are equally convenient more or less, I can make time for most stuff somewhere in my day. Whenever you're ready let me know! I'm in my late 20s, actually. I did take art/design classes in college, but never got a degree due to family circumstances. I'm trying to get back into college, and I've even been accepted to the college that had been my dream school. But it's both expensive and on the other side of the continent, so I'm still figuring out if I'm going to be able to do it. But anyways, I have some small experience with storyboarding, web design, and other general 2d graphic design stuff. Nothing that's become a career, at least not yet.
  22. The reference photos I was given were good then, because that's the vibe I got when I started drawing that! In other news, tossing these on the marketplace was quick and easy: I'm just recycling older art in an easy form. Consider this me roleplaying as one of those Amazon bots that puts random images and generated slogans onto cellphone cases.
  23. I am! Whenever you're ready just send me a message with what you're looking for.
  24. New work in progress character! I picked up this leafy dryad hair at the hair fair and I wanted to make a character around it. She needs more, maybe more planty accessories. But I'm happy with her so far.
  25. The socks were from Free Dove, and I love them. I've come to permanently associate them with this one particular character, they're kinda the centerpiece of her entire style.
