  1. I've played around in Gold Hunt and Reward Clovers and I'd say the experience is what you make of it.  There are some neat sims where they make it a real game, with hidden coins/clovers and rooms to explore through.  You won't make much, and the time spent isn't REALLY worth it, but you can still have fun seeing how people hid the goodies.  Fishing can be done in a small window while you do other stuff in a browser or something, and Fish Hunt and Gold Hunt can often be found on the same sim, so find one you like that you can loiter around in.

  2. How much does it matter to have detailed feet?  If you plan to be barefoot or in sandals a lot there are male Slink feet, you can probably get a fairly good match from their default skins and some tinting.  I imagine you could get away with hiding the classic un-feet with boots most of the time, though.

As an aside, I have a few things in there that were marketed as a dress, too.

This has been happening to me a lot, I feel like my avatar's in high school and I'm enforcing dress code policy on her.  If a 'dress' just barely reaches her crotch I'm calling it a top.  Or sometimes even a swimsuit if it's tight enough.

  4. In my constant quest to wrangle my inventory I thought I'd make a bunch of sub-folders for different types of dress.  Although you can find lists of dress types they're not always super helpful when applied to what I own.  I'm not always sure what defines each type of dress, and there's a lot of weird structural styles that I don't have words for.  I eventually went with broader situational categories- historical dresses, costume dresses, casual dresses...but now about 75% of my dresses are in the 'bar and club' folder (which originally had a more blunt name).  So I'm reconsidering the way I organize.

    Anyone got any tips?

I actually know people who would want such perks...

I imagine there are people who would gladly pay in $100/month (or whatever number) for their premium if they kept the $100 in linden form instead of paying the $72/year and getting ~$60 back in stipend.  LL would be getting only the $1.49/month in transaction fees to start but a bunch of the rest will make its way through them through marketplace fees and tier upgrades (because $4/month for a little extra land is nothing if you're already doing $100/month anyways).  And presumably a large chunk of that money will get spent inworld, encouraging creators, hosts, and other workers to focus more on SL because they're getting a bigger payoff from it.  Which would eventually lure more people into premium.

  6. I only ever buy $5-10USD worth of lindens at a time so the exchange fee will definitely affect my spending habits.  That'd be fine if I had more incentive to buy more lindens at once, but currently I don't.  I just dropped some money down the money hole for cat food so I'll be good for a while, and I'll hold back until more changes are made to give me something good to spend on.  I'm still waiting to see the changes that'll be made to premium.

I'd also be more likely to pay in if we got some kind of bonus for transactions over a certain threshold.  Like maybe a month of free premium if you're buying $100+ in lindens, I don't know.  Or give me a special Linden Bear or Glytch when I pay in $10.

  7. Most tails are removable/interchangeable, but not always.  Kemono, Cabbit, and I think Luxx have removable tails, I can't remember if Bladencat does.  A lot of people sell standalone tails that can be stuck onto anything.

Kemono is distinctly different in shape than most human bodies so human clothes rarely fit.  I've had some luck with a really small shape and really big child size clothes, but that's iffy.  Generally if you put human clothes on the Kemono you're going to have a lot of empty space between your body and the actual cloth.  Hair usually fits but might require resizing or shape editing.  The Kemono comes with an anime hair and there's a lot of anime hairs that fit the Kemono perfectly but it's not necessary.  I've also gotten prim hairs to fit on the Bladencat with a little editing.

  8. The Kemono huds are pretty simple and it has a lot of support, but nearly every human body mod is going to be incompatible.  It uses a different UV map from all the human bodies, which use the same map as the classic system body.  I still recommend it, I have one and its great, but I'd also recommend snagging a human mesh.  There are $1L bodies by eBody and free bodies by Altamura, none of them will let you retexture but they'll give you something to familiarize yourself with.  For retexturing you can do that with the classic avatar until you get the hang of it.

If you do get a Kemono, some advice for texturing the head: there are a lot of extra mouth and eyelid positions that go transparent when not in use, so get used to fiddling around with invisible ghost mouths.  There's also an invisible cone in front of the head that projects an optional facelight.  If you try to drop a texture onto every part at once, you'll suddenly see that cone with your texture on it (and on the eyelids, and the eyes, and the extra mouths...) and it's real confusing if you aren't expecting it.

For free furry bodies (which also have unique UV maps) you can also play around with the Happy Paws Cabbit, the Bladencat, and the Krankhaus Luxx.

  9. I believe the AK Maia deluxe head is still on as a group gift over at Akeruka right now (150L join fee), so the current normal thing is to do five failed teleports into their store, finally squeeze yourself in, then wait 20 minutes for the gift to deliver because everyone's clicking it at the same time.

I haven't unpacked it yet but I have the AK Kumiko head too and that was certainly worth the join fee.

  10. This isn't very helpful advice NOW, but when we get closer to Christmas time take a look at the various winter-themed hunts that will be taking place.  Last year I picked up a ton of sweaters and a few pajamas that way.

I'm also going to suggest Legendaire, who do make skimpy clothing but also offer some maxi dresses that I could see an older woman wearing IRL.

    Paradise

This was a group gift, the Legendaire group gift pile is MASSIVE and right now the group is free to join.  I think it's normally around L$100 or so, so this is a good time to jump in.  They also have an absolute truckload of great Slink shoes on the group gift wall, just so everyone knows.

  11. I came here partly as a weird internet tourist and lemme say this guy sounds like a lazy normie.  He wasn't looking to learn about SL, he wanted to get some tour guides to take him to see the weird stuff.  There's so many weirder things to look at here than 'I went to a nude beach and nobody wanted to talk to me.'  The problem is you have to actually participate to see the truly odd SL culture at work.

  12. I dress my avatars differently based on personality of the character, but when in my 'normal' body I do find myself dressing way out of my real life comfort zone. Sometimes that's good, because my virtual legs can't feel cold when I don't have pants on. Sometimes I do just want to look like myself though, so when I find some nice pants I cherish them. Sexy skimpy minidresses are out of character for me but they're like half my inventory.

  13. I love reading threads like these.  I'm getting a tech lesson and a history lesson all in one.

A question- how much of Linden Lab's costs could be offset by more users buying more L$?  In theory that could balance out their reliance on land fees, but in practice would the presence of more accounts, more inventories, and more bandwidth usage just make it worse?

  14. I have yet to even make a male avatar, so any freebies I pick up for men get dumped into a folder labeled 'Men's Clothes' with the plan to someday make a boy to dress in them.  But I have noticed that the sharp divide between normal human SL and furry/anime SL is even more distinct in mens' fashion than in womens.  The Krankhaus Kuroo body might not be what you're looking for but the clothes for it look okay.  Some creators will make items fitted in both Kuroo and Kemono sizes, and the Kemono market is pretty big, so the potential is there for more clothing options if the Kuroo clothing creators see an increase in sales.  The downside is that it's not a fitted body so you can't make it buff.

  15. Some IP holders could probably make a killing selling official in-world full perm copies of their art assets. Imagine being able to make or buy TOS-compliant clothes with, as examples, Disney princesses or Pokémon or whatever on them. But a big enough company wouldn't care about a demographic as small as SL regulars. And a smaller company would have to be more protective of their IPs. So it's not likely to happen.
