    Shoe light?

You could put a light anywhere you want. A face light isn't anything fancy. It's just a spherical prim made transparent and set to be a light source. You can make one easily, if you are in a place where you can rez objects, like a sandbox. (1) Open your Build Edit tool (CTRL + 3) and select the rezzing tool (looks like a magic wand -- top row) (2) Select the sphere icon from the row right below it. (3) Rez a sphere by left-clicking on the ground. (4) Click the "Features" tab in the Build Edit tool, and then click the box that says "Light". That makes the sphere into a light source. You can play with the Intensity, Radius, and Falloff settings to change how bright it is and how far away it shines. (5) Click the "Texture" tab and change Transparency from zero (its normal setting) to 100. That will make your shining sphere invisible. See? Now you have a face light ... or a shoe light. Click the "General" tab and give your face light a name, then take it to your inventory. You can Wear it on your chin or your nose, and you can use your edit tool to move it around once its attached there. (If you can't see it, type CTRL + Alt + T to make it glow red temporarily.) Making it a shoe light instead of a face light is really easy. If you have mod permission on your shoes, just use your Build Edit tool to link the light to your shoe. If you don't (or if you don't feel confident about linking), then Wear your face ball on your Lower Leg. (Right click on it in your inventory and select Attach To... >> Lower Leg.) That's it. As building projects go, this is a pretty simple one, and it's kinda fun. If you don't get it right the first time, try again. Then teach someone else. :smileywink:

  5. You can do that, but it won't do what you expect. As written, every one of your if tests that ask if(message == "yes") will always return TRUE, so every single block of code in them will always be executed. Same with the ones that test for "no". If you want to have a sequence of actions like that, you''ll need to add a flag or a counter or some kind. if (message == "yes") { if (counter == 1) { //do this stuff the first time counter = 2; } else if (counter == 2) { // do this stuff the second time } } else if (message == "no") and so forth
  6. The problem is not SL's servers. You have a borked file. Have you tried deleting that image file from your APPDATA file? You have its path and filename in the image you posted. If simply deleting the image doesn't solve the problem, do a clean re-install of your viewer. Do not simply re-install a new copy of the viewer on top of what's there now, or you'll just inherit the old, borked files. See >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=fs_clean_reinstall . The instructions work for any viewer, although the filenames may be different.
  7. How do you know that your avatar is stuck on line? Can someone else see you there a long time after you logged off? Are you having trouble logging in? Have you tried logging in to a quiet sim like Smith or Aqua? Can you log in as an alt? It's very hard to tell you how to fix your problem if we don't know more about what's broken. You can add important information to your question by clicking on the Options link in its upper right corner and selecting EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread. In the meantime, perhaps Marigold will wander by here. She has more expertise than most of us in dealing with stranded avs.

Animations need to be in something to work. You can put your animation in an AO (Animation Overrider -- A HUD that you wear on your screen to control personal animations) or in an article of clothing, like a shoe or a prim skirt. Wherever you put the animation, it needs to have a script to control it. Your AO has a script to do just that. If you put the animation in your shoe, you'll need to buy or write a script to put in the shoe and activate the animation when you move.
  9. I suppose one way to ask the question would be to look at why you might say "It looks like a Mercedes" or "It was inspired by Lord of the Rings." The only reason I can imagine is that you hope to benefit from their success and recognition. You are saying, in a way, that your work is great because it uses someone else's idea. We are all inspired by other people's work, but we step over a fuzzy line when we have to admit that our creative success depends on people seeing another artist's genius in it.
  10. Thank you for a very well-reasoned response, JeanneAnne. I appreciate the time and thought that went into it. We clearly do not share the same world view, but I do recognize that yours is internally consistent and could be a valid model for a different virtual community. It's not the SL that I joined almost five years ago, however, and it isn't one that I would enjoy living in. I have many friends here, and I spend far too much time in world and in the fora with them. If I am being honest with myself, though, my motives for being in SL are really rather selfish. I get a great deal of pleasure out of creating things and helping people. It's largely a matter of intellectual stimulation -- I love a good puzzle -- but I also get personal satisfaction from having figured out how my corner of the world works and being able to help someone else make the same discovery. Those are the drives that took me into an academic career. In retirement, they are no less important to me. It's not about money for me, at least not in the sense of getting rich or even paying the rent to keep my SL shop and my home. I don't create to earn L$. In fact, I have given away significantly more than I have ever sold, creating things for friends and for the Community Virtual Library that has been my SL community all these years. I know that I don't "own" the things that I create (except for the most important part -- my intellectual property), but it doesn't bother me at all that LL benefits from them. They are not "parasites". Ours is a symbiotic relationship. They provide a world, and I get to play in it. I cannot begrudge them their corporate profits. From my perspective, I am gaining much more from the relationship than I am giving. If there is exploitation, I am getting more than my share out of the bargain. Paradoxically, I do value the L$ that I earn. If I were to cash in what I net in a month, I couldn't pay for much more than a couple of evenings at a nice restaurant in RL. The fact that residents are willing to pay me for what I create is the extrinsic reward I wrote about earlier. I get a warm glow when friends admire something I made as a gift, but I get a different sort of satisfaction from knowing that a perfect stranger liked my work enough to give me something of value to him in return. I wouldn't get that feeling if LL paid me a wage to create freebies. Capitalism works for me because it strokes my creative ego, even when I don't need the L$ to pay the bills. So, we have our fundamental philosophical differences. You see parasites and greed. I see symbiosis and the freedom to create. You see Nazis and class distinctions and I see a world built by residents like me who can indulge in personal fantasies and intellectual exploration for far less than they would cost us in RL. You use the language of politics, exploitation, and class warfare. I use the language of the open market and of parallel goals. I can appreciate the fact that SL is not a world for you, perhaps, but then you can always do as some others have done -- create your own world on a new grid. I like my world.
  11. Notecards, group notices, group invitations, IMs, and purchased or gifted objects are all subject to the same cap ... a total of 25. So, sending a notecard is a good idea because it's a more permanent record and it can contain a lot more information in slightly better format than an IM, but it is just as likely to get caught in the receiver's cap.
  12. To get a record of the individual items in your order, open Marketplace and click the My Marketplace menu at the top of the page. Select My Account >> Order History from the pulldown menu. If you do not receive items within about 24 hours, you should cut and paste the information about a missing item from that Order History and send it in a IM or notecard to the merchant, along with a polite message requesting redelivery. Most merchants are very kind and willing to redeliver. This happens all the time and they are aware of it. Do be patient, though. Not everyone logs in to SL every day or checks their e-mail. If you still haven't heard in another day or two, follow it up with a second polite note and finally, if you STILL haven't heard, file a support ticket at https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ , selecting Marketplace from the pulldown menu. Not that it helps now, but to remember for the future: (1) Don't overuse the shopping cart. It is easily confused if you put more than a couple of things in it. (2) Don't buy things from Marketplace (especially LOTS of things) unless you are in world to receive them at the time. We each have an "in box" that holds IMs, notecards, group notices, group invitations, and anything that is delivered to us if we aren't in world at the time. That "in box" can only hold 25 things, total. If anything else comes in, it isn't saved. It is gone ... poof .... forever. If you have a mess of things delivered from Marketplace and half your friends send you notecards, that in box will be capped and you will never know what happened.
  13. Most scripters don't have much trouble setting PERMISSION_TRIGGER_ANIMATION when an avatar sits on a sit target. That error message usually pops up when the avatar stands again. It's triggered if you tell the script to llStopAnimation when the avatar is no longer sitting and permissions have therefore been released. The trick is to simply eliminate the llStopAnimation function call.
  14. Et, apropos ce qu'Amethyst a dit.... je crois qu'on doit choisir "Marketplace" dans le menu a https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ au lieu de "Account Issue".
  15. My own solution is a scripted device that does a quick scan of my parcel every 30 seconds when I am not there, identifies anyone who is not on a whitelist, and sends a greeting that says just "Hello, <name>," followed by a date and time stamp. If a person is still there 30 seconds later, he hears it again, and again, and again. It's friendly but persistent and, after a short while, mildly annoying. People rarely stay more than a minute. The device shuts off when I am around, so I can welcome (or turn away) visitors myself when I am at home.
  16. You can always give transferable items and L$ to another av, but you cannot ever transfer any no-trans items.
  17. Open inventory and type the name of the object in the search field at the top. All items with the same name will be listed. If you have set your inventory to sort by age, the selected duplicate objects will be listed with the most recent copy on top and the original one on the bottom. Then you can decide which ones to eliminate. Just be careful. All that's being sorted are object names. If you have 1,000 items all name "Object", you won't be able to tell them apart. Also, --- this is the one that drives me crazy -- if you have ten copies of the same item with different textures on them or with a slightly different version of a script inside, you won't know which one is which. That's the best reason for using unique names for every thing you create.
  18. That's because you are trying to launch your SL viewer from your web browser. While it is possble to teach your browser to recognize a SLURL as a valid address and let you enter SL that way, it's not the standard way to log in. To log in, find the executable file for your viewer, or find the icon for it on your desktop, and click to launch the viewer. You will see the login screen, where you enter your username and password. I am not a Mac user myself, or I would go ahead at teach you how to tell Safari how to recognize a SLURL too. That may not be a standard way to log in, but it can be handy at times.

  20. That's easy.... Don't invite them to teleport while you are standing in your home. When you send a TP invitation, it only brings the person to the place where to are standing -- nowhere else. ETA: This is too much of a coincidence..... Are you trying to ask this question? >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/Create-Landmarks-button-cannot-be-unchecked/qaq-p/1212407
  21. No, it doesn't. As far as I'm aware, the only viewer that does have them is Phoenix, although I'm told that they may be in the upcoming release of Firestorm also. Here's the description of the option in Phoenix (Found in Preferences >> Phoenix >> Chat): EDIT KEY WORD ALERTS (BUTTON): Displays additional options dialog box that allows you to choose keywords that trigger a sound and/or highlight text when the words appear in group chat, IM's or open chat. IF ANY OF THE PHRASES (SEPERATED BY COMMAS) LISTED HERE: Specifies the list of words that will trigger an alert. They can be individual words or phrases and are separated by commas. INSTANT MESSAGE FLOATER: When checked, the alert system monitors the IM and Group Chat areas for presence of these keywords. Note: Group Chats are prevented from appearing, “When “Receive Group Notices” Is Disabled, Disable Group Chat As Well” or “Disable All Group Chats” is enabled (see above), then no alerts are triggered. LOCAL CHAT FLOATER: When checked, the alert system monitors Local Chat for the presence of these keywords. HIGHLIGHT THE MESSAGE IN THIS COLOR (CHECK BOX and COLOR SELECTOR): When checked, any messages that are to be alerted, will have their color changed to what is specified in the color selector. PLAY THIS SOUND ALERT (CHECK BOX and UUID): Plays the sound identified by the identified UUID. To get the UUID, find a sound in the avatar's inventory that has full rights, then right-click the sound and select “Copy Asset UUID” from the menu. Then paste the value into the text box.
  22. A script cannot run unless it is in an object, so the object must still be there. Highlight beacons (CTRL + Shift + Alt + N) and select "Scripted Objects". That will help you find it. If yopu highlight transparent objects at the same time, it may make the search easier. Expect it to be in a thin object that is hard to see from most angles, or perhaps inside another object. Edit: Ah, wait.... The script that started the sound might actually have been deleted, but the sound could continue. Sound is a prim property. You need a script to start it, but not to keep it going. So..... when you set the beacon, select "Sounds" instead of "Scripted Objects". :smileywink:
  23. Good luck. You'll find a few third party viewers that offer a minimal SL experience at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory. The bottom line, though, is that SL is not a netbook world.
  24. Um ...... Toggle the NumLock key on your keyboard?
