  1. That's because it's not your viewer causing the trouble. You have a crummy Internet connection. There are several possibilitites. Two are quite local. Reboot your router. To do that, just unplug it from the power for a few minutes. For many people, that' all it takes. The other local possibility is that you have been using a wireless connection --- not usually a good idea in SL anyway --- and one of your neighbors has decided to fire up the TARDIS in his basement. It doesn't take much interference to trash a wireless connection. The solution, of course, is to get off wireless. Use a cable connection instead. For other suggestions, especially for things that are farther from your machine, see http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/
  2. The easy answer is not to get too paranoid about adding an extra listener. Especially if it's listening on a unqiue high-numbered channel, the amount of added strain it puts on the sim's servers is truly negligible. You already have a timeout on the dialog so that one isn't open for more than a minute. Don't worry about it. :smileywink:
  3. Either: 1. Open the Contents tab in Edit, click New Script, and cut&paste this script in place of the one that's generated automatically, or 2. Open you inventory, click the "+" button at the bottom and select "New Script". Then open it and paste this script in. Drag & drop the compiled script into the Contents tab of your prim. It takes 4.38 sq m to support 1 prim, so 4.38 x 600 = 2628 Sq m. That's more than the 2048 tier, so if you're buying, anything up to 4096 sq m will cost you the same as 2628 sq m will. Go for 4096 @ $25/month. If you're renting on a private sim, you may be able to rent something less than 1/16 of a sim for a lower rate.
  4. Two solutions: 1. Go to Preferences >> Graphics and turn of Basic Shaders. That will disable some other graphics features that you have been enjoying, but will get rid of the pink. 2. Go back to the NVidia site and download Beta driver 304.48 . If you're curious, here's the problem ..... https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-29228
  5. Yup. That answer works, but here's an alternative. The problem really is your drivers, which are incompatible with the current versions of V3 and Firestorm. You have two choices: (a) If you have installed the NVidia GeForce 304.79 BETA drivers, you can get rid of the pink by turning off Basic Shaders in Preferences >>. Graphics or (b) you can download and re-install Beta driver 304.48 . Take a look at [sH-2908] is back on Nvidia cards running the GeForce 304.79 BETA drivers : Hot pink textures when basic shaders are enabled BTW, the "sarcasm" is hard to avoid when we get the same question a dozen times a week from people who should have simply checked for previous answers. In this case, you're right though. The answer has changed. :smileyembarrassed:
  6. There's a JIRA report on the bug >>> https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-28372 . According to Dan Linden on July 12, "We believe this bug is fixed in the 3.3.4.261355 Beta build available at the bottom of http://secondlife.com/downloads/ Check it out and let us know."
  7. I hate an unsolved puzzle, but a vanishing problem is a decent alternative. Such a frustration!
  8. Don't give up yet. You're just getting started.. You have a half dozen items in your Marketplace store now, which isn't a bad start. There's no cost to having the store, and there are no warehousing charges in SL, so relax. Even if you sell nothing for another six months, you're not losing anything by keeping the store up, and you are learning how to run a business. The in-world shop is another matter. Rent does cost you something. Chances are that it's a trivial amount -- a few dollars a month -- but it's a slow trickle loss. On the other hand, an in-world shop gives you a chance to advertize and display things differently than you do in Marketplace, and you may have a chance to be part of a local merchants group, particpate in hunts, sponsor events, ..... I had shops in three or four locations for the first couple of years I was in SL and I rarely did much better than earn rent. It was a good learning experience, though, and it was fun. Most creators in SL are not in it to make a lot of money. You don't get paid enough for your time to justify making stuff, if that's your reason. We create things because we enjoy it, and we hope that someone else likes what we make. So long as you're getting a kick out of being creative, keep at it.
  9. Most of your questions are answered well enough in the Knowledge Base that I hesitate to paraphrase things here. Take a look >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Premium-membership/ta-p/1054477. To learn about Linden Homes, see http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Linden-Homes/ta-p/700103 .
  10. That's what is being recommended in the JIRA >>> https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-29307 . Thank you for letting others know, Sophia.
  11. Innula's right.. Those things haven't been connected to anything in LL since at least 2009. Maybe earlier. They still have a local script that says thank you if you click to vote, though. Makes you feel warm and fuzzy.
  12. No, you're right. They shouldn't change. When something like that happens to me, usually assume that I have forgotten what the original perms were, or maybe I changed them in inventory, not in a rezzed object. I do that often enough that self-doubt comes naturally. The other insidious thing is hidden permissions .... permissions inherited from scripts or textures that are in an object's inventory. That's why I offered the web resource on Debug Permissions. With that panel enabled, I find that I am less likely to trip over those hidden things. Still, it sounds as if you already have that in hand and are still having problems. I'm out of suggestions at the moment, though. Sorry, Shadowed.
  13. If you are outside the US, your card may not be set up for international/overseas transactions (this is very common with Visa Electron). Contact your credit card provider to make whatever adjustments are necessary in your account to allow international transactions. You may also contact Linden Lab Billing Support. if you have other questions. You can call the Linden Lab billing team at the following toll-free numbers: US/Canada: 800-294-1067 France: 0805-101-490 Germany: 0800-664-5510 Japan: 0066-33-132-830 Portugal: 800-814-450 Spain: 800-300-560 UK: 0800-048-4646 Brazil: 0800-762-1132 Long distance ( not free, but you can use Skype to save some cost ) : 703-286-6277 **Note: Support is offered only in English
  14. When you write your script, use either a sensor event and llDetectedPosition(0) or llGetObjectDetails(Av_UUID,[OBJECT_POSITION]) to get the av's position. Then it's just a matter of rezzing the object with llRezAtRoot and moving it to the spot (plus your offset) with llSetRegionPos.
  15. Here are some common reasons for credit card failure: You entered the credit card number incorrectly. You did not enter the billing address or entered it incorrectly. It should be the same address that appears on your bill. You did not enter the name on the card or entered differently from how it appears on the card. Billing Information page. The credit card is not in the list of accepted payment methods (see above) You did not enter the CVV (3 digits on the back, or 4 digits on the front for AmEx) or entered it incorrectly. The card is expired, or the expiration date was entered incorrectly. There are no funds available on the credit card to validate it. We send a US$1.00 authorization to ensure that a credit card is valid. This is not a billing, but the card must have at least US$1.00 available on it to pass validation. Your monthly payment limit is reached, and/or your bank is not authorizing any more transactions. The issuing bank has not pre-approved transactions with Linden Research, Inc. Contact the issuing bank to resolve the problem. If you are outside the US, your card may not be set up for international/overseas transactions (this is very common with Visa Electron). If none of the above applies, contact your credit card provider to determine the cause. You may also contact Linden Lab Billing Support. For other informnation regarding billing issues, see http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Billing/ta-p/700037
  16. That's very odd. The site is active, and you're able to get to it with other accounts. I hate to ask a silly, obvious question, but have you double checked to be sure that you typed the URL correctly? No commas for periods, spaces that don't belong .... ?
  17. I suggest trying a different web browser. Internet Explorer, in particular, often has problems with SL's web sites. You may have better luck with either Firefox or Chrome.
  18. If they are one-of-a-kind animals (that is, you only have one copy of each one to sell), you cannot use the Direct Delivery system yet. That function has not been enabled, and will probably not be available until sometime later this summer or fall. You can still sell one-of-a-kind items with a Magic Box, because LL has not disabled the Magic Box system yet.
  19. You need to sell the parcel to her/him for L$0. Here's how ... If you wish to sell your land to a specific Resident, it is very important that you take advantage of the Sell the land to:setting, or your land may be purchased by someone else. Some Residents use scripted agents, or "landbots," which can detect land at below-market prices the moment it appears in search, teleport to the spot and buy the land faster than any human can. While landbots are legal in Second Life and provide a valuable service for Residents who wish to sell land quickly, you risk losing your land to the wrong buyer if you do not follow the steps below. Remember, all sales are final. In the event that your land is purchased by someone other than the Resident you intend, Linden Lab cannot reverse the sale for you. To sell land to a specific Resident: Right-click on the ground and select About Land. In the GENERAL tab of the About Land window, click the Sell Land button. The SELL LAND window opens. Under Set a price, enter the amount in L$ for which you wish to sell the land. Under Sell the land to, select Specific person. The CHOOSE RESIDENT window opens. Enter the name of the Resident and click Go. Select the Resident's name and click OK. Under Sell the objects with the land?, choose either to keep or sell the objects on the parcel. Click Set Land for Sale. The specified Resident can now purchase your land.
  20. Well, chances are pretty good that Linden Lab was doing their scheduled rolling restarts of all sims on the main grid when you tried earlier in the day. As usual when maintenance is announced, LL gives a standard warning.... "We will be performing rolling restarts for regions on the main Second Life server channel. They will begin on Tuesday, July 31st at approximately 5:00AM PDT. Please refrain from rezzing no copy objects, making inworld L$ transactions and remember to save all builds." SL Residents are likely to be unable to log in to or TP to sims at various times during a maintenance period. It was probably not a good idea to "cross out" your viewer (whatever that means) when you failed to log in. You may have done something to mess up one or more of its settings files. Those files are not replaced when you do a normal re-installation of the viewer, so you are probably still using damaged files. When you do the reinstallation THIS time, do a clean reinstall. Here are the instructions >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_clean_reinstall . They are written for Firestorm but they work for any of the viewers.
  21. [RESOLVED] Second Life Main Channel Rolling Restart [RESOLVED 12:28PM PDT, 31 July 2012] Today’s rolling restarts have been completed. Rolling restarts have nothing to do with Lindex, however. That service has been running normally today, AFAIK. If you are having trouble ith your account, I suggest calling the Linden Lab billing office. If you have a non-technical issue related to billing concerns, you can call the Linden Lab billing team at the following toll-free numbers: US/Canada: 800-294-1067 France: 0805-101-490 Germany: 0800-664-5510 Japan: 0066-33-132-830 Portugal: 800-814-450 Spain: 800-300-560 UK: 0800-048-4646 Brazil: 0800-762-1132 Long distance ( not free, but you can use Skype to save some cost ) : 703-286-6277 **Note: Support is offered only in English
  22. Normally, if you need to report a mainland sim off line, you just need to file a support ticket. Linden Lab responds very quickly to those requests. If you are having troubl with that option and are qualified for Concierge-level service ( http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Accounts-overview/ta-p/700019#Section_.2.3 , you should be able to reach them in the Help Portal >>> https://support.secondlife.com/?lang=en You can also try Concierge Support Phone Numbers Toll-Free (US/Canada) 877.236.0711 Long Distance 703.286.2738
  23. If you follow the instructions at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/help/faqpage/faq-category-id/images#images , the system should work for you every time. If it doesn't, I guess I would first double check to be sure that the image you're trying to upload is in an acceptable format and is an appropriate size. Then I'd start suspecting your Internet connection, beginning with your router. I had a little trouble uploading a texture myself last night until I rebooted the router (unplugged it from the power while I went to make a cup of tea). It worked fine after that.
