Folks who want to be very safe can buy Zindra land and be sure without needing to split these hairs.

Yep. That's why I've lived in Zindra since 2009. I have liberty to do whatever I want without worrying about violating rules. 99% of my behavior would be fine in an M region, and most would be fine in a G region, but I don't have to think about it.

  2. I had cable until a couple of years ago when I got AT&T fiber. The problem I had with Comcast cable was that it would just stop working for several seconds a few times per day. Fiber is faster, but cable was fast enough. As a bonus, I can get lightning-fast downloads if the site is fast, and I can run as many streams as I want.

  3. I hardly know how to begin. Thank you so much for teaching me so much. I am so sorry that you have RL issues that are making you leave. I hope that you will occasionally visit to tell us that you are OK.

The Avatar is still in Beta, and if you have any ideas to improve the avatar. I would put in a Jira. That being said, why do you want a HUD for the Senra Avatars?

For me, multiple foot positions are essential, as are multiple nail colors. A few different hand positions and some choices of nail lengths would be nice. I don't know how these things can be achieved without a HUD.

The underwear has details, and it's one of the few items that's different for Blake vs. Jamie. Blake has dresses, but no bra. Jamie's panties have a little bow on them, while Blake's jockey shorts don't.

You are right. I still think the underwear should be nicer-looking.

At least it isn't a permanent part of the avatar!

  6. There is too much here for me to read it all, so please forgive me if I repeat what others have said.

I tried Jamie. I was somewhat disappointed, considering the time and effort that have gone into these avatars. The avatar itself was just OK. I would have expected a simplified, intuitive HUD for the body with limited functionality instead of no HUD. I tried the tank top, shorts, and jeans. The tank fit well and needed no alpha mask. The jeans fit poorly and definitely needed one. The shorts were knee-length. The underwear was awful; it was solid plain white completely lacking any details.  The hair was quite disappointing. There was no makeup. The default shape was not one that I thought was attractive, but was easily improved (by someone with many years' experience in SL) enough to be OK. The names of the various items were not descriptive at all.

One change that could be made easily, quickly, and at low cost that would make this avatar friendlier to new users would be to give all items descriptive names, e.g., "Red Tank Top," "Very Pale Skin," "Tall Thin Shape." Another is to include multiple descriptively-named shapes. It's much easier for a new user to choose a shape from among several offerings than it is to learn to edit shapes. And, please, do something about the ugly underwear. Another is to include instructions. Probably the best way would be to have a NC Named "READ ME FIRST" that contained a link to a short online video.

If technically feasible, it would be worth considering providing a number of pre-made outfits. Even if outfit folders couldn't be used, almost the same functionality could be achieved with regular folders containing links. That would make it much easier for new people to put an avatar together.

What part of "sudden surge of unwanted intruders in my home" do you not understand?

Questions like yours are why people install "zero-second warning punt-kick home and auto ban" security orbs.

I have had a home on the mainland since 2008 and have had the same one since 2012. I have never restricted access to my home. I view it as something of which I am proud and something that I want others, friends and strangers alike, to enjoy. I have never restricted access. I have frequent visits by people I don't know. These visitors represent the full spectrum of humanity (avatanity?). Griefers are rare. Avatars who are obnoxious but not malicious are less rare. Most are nice people. I have become friends with people I met that way. The gratification I get from sharing and from meeting new people far outweighs the small effort I must make to deal with the few bad apples. I have lived on the same parcel since 2009, and there are less than 100 names on the ban list.

I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. Someone else's unwanted intruder is my welcome potential new friend.

Hi, I have been renting land for a few months on a private estate and was happy with it, until recently when I started getting uninvited avies visiting me.  It has been suggested to me by a friend that these "visitors" might be bots, used by the landowner or maybe even LL to monitor lag and land use, but I am not so sure - these visitors have detailed profiles, payment info used,  and have been on sl for many years.  They can appear right next to me, they don't speak, they leave shortly after arriving.  Some of them belong to groups that I belong to.  It's weird and I have resorted to using a security orb to get rid of them but they still keep coming and  I am just wondering what this could be all about.  I could be persuaded that they are just bots but why only recently, when I have lived there without interference for months?  Why would someone suddenly begin to spy on me?

    Why is it a problem?

  9. My alt went over to the beta grid and tried out Blake.

I was surprised that the clothing didn't fit better than it did. With movement, the underlying body poked through---a lot.

I was disappointed to see that there were alpha masks for the clothing, though they were surely needed. If the goal is to make something that works well in the hands of new users with as little effort on their part as possible, shouldn't something like the Maitreya autohider be used instead of alpha masks?

  10. I have been experimenting. I understand better, and I understand what I need to do, although I don't think I completely understand the inner workings of the system. Here is what I've learned:

The key to preserving the order of the layers is to save a NEW outfit. Before, my mistake was to just save the changed outfit. Apparently, doing that does not cause the layer order data to be overwritten. To impose my preferred order on another outfit, it seems that I must wear it, remove the tattoo layers, and then add the outfit that contains the layers in correct order.

  11. I thought I understood this, but today I learned that I don't. I wear multiple tattoo layers and the order, i.e., which is on top and which is on bottom, is important. The same ones are worn with most outfits. I thought that if I edited an outfit and arranged them in the proper order, that as long as I didn't do anything to mess the order up, it would be the same when I wore that outfit again. I arranged the tattoo layers in proper order, saved the outfit, took off everything except the four mandatory items, and put the outfit back on. The tattoo layers were in a different order that I could see no logic to.

I also have long thought that, if I add a tattoo layer, it will be on top of the ones that I was already wearing. That turns out not to be true.

    So, how does it work?

Maybe something like a two-level approach might work? Provide them with the option of using a simple system straight off, or of learning how customization works "in the wild" through a more complicated, but hopefully well-explained, approach?

    Of course.
