the person who created the shape doesn’t use the shape anymore or have a copy of it. they don’t mind me recreating the shape. i wish this thread would have been more focused on the topic rather than debate.

I think the best you can do, if you and no one you know has a copy of the shape, is to find the head that appears to be closest to it in appearance, put your avatar on a pose stand, and with the picture beside your avatar, start tweaking shape sliders. You will likely have to invest many hours of effort to get a satisfactory result.

  2. I agree with Marianne. If your budget permits, skip Senra and start with the avatar that you'll eventually want. That way, you won't put in effort to learn Senra that will eventually be wasted. Unless there is a Senra II that is much nicer than Jamie, I cannot imagine being satisfied with Senra for long.

I wear a Maitreya Lara body exclusively. I like the way it looks, the feature set is excellent, and the HUD is well-designed. Since it is the most popular female body, there are plenty of nice clothes available for it. I would wear a Lelutka EvoX head except that I have not yet managed to make the face of one look enough like my face. Matching an existing face should not be an issue for you. In the past, Lelutka has held holiday events during which heads were given away free to all who wanted them, so you can probably save some money by waiting a few weeks for that.

In your place, I wouldn't spend time on Senra or on trying a lot of demo bodies and heads. I would be thinking that the ones that are most popular are popular for a reason, and absent some preference for a body shape that doesn't work well with Maitreya, I would get a Maitreya body and keep my system head while I waited for whatever holiday special Lelutka has. (The improvement in appearance of mesh heads over system heads is much smaller than the improvement of mesh bodies over system bodies. I have friends who are pretty who still have system heads. This is because the system head has much finer detail than the system body.)

Before they upped the price of premium, I was getting more back in stipend than what my premium would cost me doing it annually. I think it jumped to 20 more a year or something..

I had it figured out at the time at how much it would have cost me to buy those lindens.. Now lindens cost more to buy, so it's pretty close again, since I get 400 a week..

So I get a linden home plus they give me lindens every week that save me in buying lindens, so that knocks the cost of my premium membership way down and a house to boot.  hehehe

There are free houses in SL, but the land is really what costs..

The value of the stipend, land allowance, and free texture uploads together is more than the cost of my Premium Plus membership (paid annually), so I actually make a little on it and get the other perks for free.

The technical reason (from what I recall) is that the last names are not just an arbitrary string of text, instead they act like IDs, and there's only a finite amount that can be supported. In that case it would take quite a lot of work (maybe an impossible amount) to change last names into something that could be chosen freely.

Would it be cool to have two unique names? For sure. Other games (like Final Fantasy 14) do that and it's a nice feature, nothing crazy or inconceivable.

Isn't it much better practice to use UUIDs as identifiers, since last names can change? Can't UUIDs supplant last names in any use where they are still used as identifiers?

As I've said before, I can't understand why LL doesn't permit people to change their last name to match a spouse's, partner's, or family's, for a fee, of course.

  5. I would be happy for them to know everything I was wearing, but I wouldn't want to have to do the typing required to give them a full listing. If they wanted to know that much, I probably would give them a screen shot of the appearance window. I wound have no worries that they would be a clone of me because I made my shape, and I don't give away copies of it.

  6. Just a thought: It might be worth making a copy of your physics layer, wearing it, and playing with the physics sliders. It's been years since I edited a physics layer because once I had it working the way I wanted, I left it alone. However, I distinctly remember that the sliders were very non-liner, i.e., that effect of moving them differed greatly over their ranges.

  7. Most BOM underwear that I have encountered is not very pretty. I know that the fact that it is limited to one 1024x1024 textuure for the upper and lower body is a lot of the reason. However, I think that some people seem to be able to do much better than others.

Which creators and stores have pretty BOM underwear?

  8. In reading about concerns that a mobile viewer will not be allowed in app stores because of potential access to adult content, I can't help but wonder if the concerns are valid.

I have Metachat, a non-graphical viewer on my iPhone. Admittedly, it's functionality is limited, and one cannot use it to view live video images of avatars engaging in adult activities, but it does have access to chat, IMs, group chat, profiles, and inventory, and it will display images from profiles and inventory.

In short, while Metachat is quite limited, one can access plenty of adult content with it.

It seems that an app that permits the user to access adult content in SL are already in the Apple App Store and has been for some time.

I am belatedly coming to use BOM with my Maitreya body so I can wear more tattoos and just now grappling with the question of funky looking fingernails and toenails.  Am I understanding you that I need to get new nails in order to have normal looking toes and fingernails?  The BOM add-on HUD covers up the toes but doesn't result in normal looking bare feet and does not seem to do anything for the fingernails.  ETA: I just found some add-ons from Sweet's that seem to work.

You can hide your fingernails using the main HUD.

To have normal feet, just don't use the BOM Add-On toenail hider.

  10. It turns out that parcel characteristics are inherited from the largest parcel, just as described.

However, parcels still do not have to be contiguous to be joined. I was able to join parcels that were separated by a parcel owned by someone else.

  11. Here's a photo of it with surface patch rendering turned off:

What I don't understand is how an avatar can be underground. How is that done?

As far as I could tell, the object is just a landmark giver.

I suppose that the reason for using an attachment on a hidden avatar is that the land belongs to Governor Linden, and autoreturn is set to five minutes, so a rezzed object would be returned, but the avatar can stay there until the region restarts.

It seems to me that this is an abusive use of a loophole and should, therefore, be reported.

Interestingly, it seems that how it's supposed to work now is that the newly joined parcel shows the attributes of the largest of the parcels that were joined, rather than how it used to be (which was as you described). https://community.secondlife.com/knowledgebase/english/managing-your-parcel-r49/

This doesn't answer why it didn't work at all, but I had no idea they'd changed that process.

If this was because the wanted ban list wasn't on the biggest parcel, you could trick it by splitting up the others into smaller parcels.

    Thanks. I had no Idea.

The linked page also says that parcels must have a common border to be joined. I know that in the past, I could join non-adjacent parcels.

  13. I distinctly remember that in the past, if I joined two parcels, the resulting combined parcel inherited the ban list of the last parcel selected.

Today, I was combining parcels, and that did not work. I tried it the other way around, and it still did not work. The combined parcel had an empty ban list no matter what the order of selection of the parcels was.

Is there any way I can make a parcel that is the result of combining parcels inherit the ban list of one of the ones that was combined to make it?

Arielle is right, my post is outdated. Unfortunately, you can't make sub-folders in the Outfits folder any more. But if you have any already existing, you can keep them.

And, if you already have a regular folder within your Outfits folder, you can make as many subfolders as you want.
