    SL Land Auctions: Highlights!

    I would love to actively participate but my eyes cannot comprehend whatever 1880s font you’re trying to bring to the table @Safeguards. I beg you - please use the default (or something we can see). My brain aches. 
     

    This being said, I’ve always gotten my mainland parcels from the auction because the default sale price via ticket is 1L/sq meter, and the auctions start at .5/sq meter. Some parcels are decent snags.

    This entire threat has been one giant roasting session, and so I’m hesitant to add my own thoughts here. 
     

    However, 

    1) It feels like a rushed job. As in, three months ago, somebody at the downtown office was like “oh, no. We promised them a release date and I got distracted making my way through grandma’s recipe book” distracted. The polys don’t make sense, the rigging doesn’t make sense, my life doesn’t make sense. 


    2) I have concerns that whoever made the female body has never actually seen a RL female to understand correct dimensions of hips vs shoulders ratio, etc. 

    3) The skin is flat and matte, like looking through an aged film canister, but we didn’t dust it. 
     


     

    The above being said, I like the initial personalization before folks drop inworld. I like how this new avatar better prepares newcomers on the layering forefront to dip into this new mesh head/body world. I feel like that was the goal going into this project, and if that’s it - THAT is the mark LL hit. I think the clothing quality on the tops is close to hitting the mark on what I expected. 
     

    If the rigging is fixed, will we all see new deliveries? 🤭 She ain’t cute, but SL is what you make of it.

    Are you aware of what a land flipper is? Because it seems like you might need to come to a self-realization, if you are indeed reselling these plots. 

    I’m confused by your confusion on this entire thread (albeit, I didn’t read 1.5-6, so take that with a grain of something spicy).

    Like somebody earlier said, I would worry less about the age, and just find things she’d like to do. Everyone else will catch up. 
     

    I have a very near and dear friend to me who is double my RL age, and who didn’t speak English when I first met her years ago (she came to SL because she wanted to learn English). We keep on great, and she’s found hobbies and friends, and has gotten pretty fast at typing with practice. 
     

    Just give it a chance! ☺️

    ^This. Has this actually happened, though? I would hope folks would know how it worked, being that I really think (at least on MP) there is specific clarification regarding the legacy name. 
     

    Additionally, if any of you see me in SL, please just call me Nora. It is my display name, but Norajulian is a mouthful and all my favorite last names keep getting snatched up by the other Noras of SL. 😬

    Yes ❤️ The Westport! Although, I did do some intense modifications with the garage and piecing things together, so the photo featuring the bike is in front of what would be the garage of the original house, whereas I ripped it apart and made a cafe instead.

    Honestly, with how photography prices have been trending lately, 6000L isn’t far off the mark. I’ve seen some profile pictures offered as high as 15k, albeit these folks haven’t been spamming messages because they’ve been offering photography services for years and their advertising is often word of mouth. 

    At the end, some folks may be trying to make a quick buck or others may just value their time at that rate. It’s up to the individual to pursue the service. 

    If the individual solicitor in question was a female, I was also hit with a request. I can’t say I approve of the door-knocking pamphlet giving myself, but to each their own.

    Still applicable, but I think in this instance, the OP was making reference to a real estate job. (Or would it be SL estate job?)
     

    The little ones are fewer in between these days, but you might just try searching in destinations and see where you land, OP!

    forgotten landscape decor stores…

    I'll play this game! *cracks knuckles*

    In terms of mainland stores, the only one that I can think of off the top of my head is Konoha, which does not start with an A, but might be created by a Japanese creator. 

    When you say "Like Alirium but not", I think of Happy Mood which has a pretty consistent layout for several years now, who MIGHT be Japanese, but I don't recall there being an inside of her store, let alone with the anc items. The only other store aside from Alirium that I would consider comparing "like" items to would be [ keke ] which is, unfortunately, no longer available due to the creator's passing. 

    In terms of acronyms, I can guess: [WaM], [DDD],  LB (little branch), HPMD (HappyMood - again!), 8f8 (very similar to your "like anc" description), MMG's - which.. is honestly quite old and I believe they closed in 2015, but they were PRIME in their time

     

    These are my guesses for now! Please let me know if you would like me to add more, because I have more items that I don't think fit either of these descriptions, but I shop far too much for my own good because I like to landscape.

    Hmmm this sounds like it could be a number of things. What have you done to troubleshoot? 
     

    Have you tried: 

    -Clearing your Cache? 
    -Restarting your internet router in RL

    - Rebooting your PC? 
    -Checked the SLgridStatus for any reported errors? 

    LL should buy the Cinnamon and Chai bodies from Slink

    I like my curves as much as the next lass, and while I try to keep my shape somewhat close to my RL - I would encourage you to venture out if your chosen avatar ceases! Plenty of bodies now (reborn *ahem*) have shared kits that allow for modifiers to be made if you prefer a flatter peach. ❤️ 

     


    RE: other responses - 
    At the end of the day, most of us forumites have been around the block for several years, and we were FAR uglier when we started than the current mesh starter avatars. The success of rigging whatever new creation they come up with will come largely with the support of current and older users such as us who elect to move from the mesh avatars that we’ve spent thousands of Ls on.. to the starter avatars that LL releases. After all, I think we’re forgetting a critical part in this discussion - designers will only rig for the body types that make them money, as well they should. 

    Do you see yourself moving to a starter avatar? Do you see yourself creating new content for new users to SL who are FAR less likely to put $$$ into this virtual world than those of us who are obviously here to stay, 5, 10, 15 years later, who have obviously put time and value into it? 
     

    Chances are, no matter what new release LL comes up with, unless they can hit it out of the park with a marketing tactic that will hit LL users on a widespread viewpoint (unlikely given their need for professionalism), it simply won’t take off… including the bodies from Slink.

    The fact of the matter is that Slink was unable to keep up with the demands of the grid. It’s a sad truth, and I absolutely wish the designer the best in the future. However, simply hanging on to something just because it once made us happy is.. packrat syndrome. It’s the reason for spring cleaning. It made us happy once, yes, but others have swept in with replacement options.

    Asian look

    There's a lot to unpack here, and I worry that you're anxious over the things that lead to more anxiety rather than not. 

    First of all, "asian" isn't very descriptive. "Asian" can encompass a number of looks, for example: Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Thailand, and Vietnam. All of these which look drastically different from the next. 

    Secondly, demos are amazing things, and should be utilized as much as possible if you are worried about spending the money. 

    Thirdly, many folks have posted their shapes for sale on the Marketplace, and it's typical that these shapes include "style cards" which provide the purchaser with instructions on how to duplicate the look. While you may not want to look EXACTLY like somebody else, it's a good start, and shapes and the tattoo layers for makeups and things these days.... it's quite easy to look drastically different with some fiddling. I would suggest starting here. 

    In terms of generations, etc - that's something that just changes with secondlife designer culture, and the demands of users. Catwa and Genesis have fallen out of popularity, it seems, with designers. Genus has as well, although with some rumors on FB with the designer coming back with a new version of her own HD skins with Genus, I'm sure it'll come back soon enough. Lately the popular head seems to be Lelutka. 

    SL is, if anything, even more flexible than  it used to be with altering your avatar into being something else. It's just a matter of how specific or particular you are.
