  1. Not so uncommon. When my hubby downloaded SL a decade ago, he had a really bad laptop, so he was frustrated and didn't try SL again until he got a better laptop. He was logged in barely an hour then. I saw it, it was like fog, he could only render the closest area around him. I think it goes for others too, they download a game and then RL stuff happens, and they find the game again when they are bored. @Silvian73 it is madness. You are in a world where Linden Lab provided the basics, like the land and the sky and the sea, but most of what you see of builds, the landscape objects like trees, cliffs and flowers, houses, skyboxes, what you wear on your avatar past the starter ones, or moves like dances, is created by other users. And they all upload their own versions of mesh, their textures and their scripts. It is a wonderful madness, but a lot to load. Some comes here to dance and be social, some has an itch they will scratch in the seedy parts, some will roleplay, some lives in a shoebox in RL and will live in a mansion here. Some wil be a DJ or host in clubs. Some will use their talent in blender and Photoshop and start a business. Some will try to make money of renting out land. Some will poledance for tips. Some will make a blog about fashion or homes and gardens, or anything and everything about SL.
  2. The starter avatars have an animation override that is not visible on the screen. It has just the action you describe in #3. It is named Animation Overrider - Female and is attached to Center 2. You can see in the folder with the classic starter avatar. If you started as Kimberly, it is in the Kimberly folder, or Abigail or what ever the name is. I am sure this is detached because the pants used the same attachment point. Locate it and add it. It is actually a nice AO. No fuss, but much better than the default walk and stands.
  3. Proves my point. And it is also people who's been using SL for a long time and is returning from a hiatus. I can not see that the worth of "wear" is bigger than the issues "wear" is creating when dressing. I think it is intuitive, that when you "add" a thing, you have to use a "detach" command for what you will replace. People will look for it, where to find the command for take off or detach items. And it is not so hard to find, to click on an item in the inventory and find the detach. Better than people getting frustrated because they are half dressed and can not figure it out how to make clothes stay on. Even if SL merchants is lazy and use the right hand attachment too much, you still have those who do not. So when an avatar is using "wear" on a set of jeans that attach to the hip instead of the right hand, he or she will still need to click and detach the pair of jeans they will take off. This is even more frustrating, because sometimes they can use wear and the other clothes stay on, and sometimes they use wear and the other clothes are detached. And some times they have 2 pair of jeans, one over the other.
  4. I know the issues about stacking, but newcomers really should not have to find it out the difference between wear and add the hard way. It is more likely that they get into trouble with items kicked off when they use "wear" than encounter trouble with stacking when they use "add". Don't forget, even if everything is attached to one hand, they will go into "worn" and take off clothes when they see it's double dresses, so their avatar will not be stacked as fast as you think. How many times isn't there a new user here, asking why their shirt goes off when they wear their jeans, and vice versa.
  5. I gave you a link to free dances on the Marketplace in the other thread. If you don't have your own dances, you do as others already said, use a "dance ball" and this is often loaded with multiple dances. When you use it and start to dance, you stay in that dance and repeat it, no new moves. But if you click that same dance ball again, you get up the menu, and can change dances as often as you want. You can use all the dances and move differently.
  6. A sandbox allow you to place boxes on the ground so you can open them to unpack items you bought. This "box" can look like anything, from a plain crate to a truck. Because it is often inconvenient to teleport to a sandbox, many designers use different ways of unpacking things. They often have "wear" or "add" in the item description. They often appear as a shopping bag or something you hold in your hands. Some start the unpacking directly. Some want you to click it, some give you a menu where you must click "unpack". But you ask for old school ways of open stuff, where you place it on the ground. Most of these demand action from you, that you click it and select open, then copy to inventory. I have used Edtech Island sandbox. It is okay to use. http://world.secondlife.com/place/e5a056ff-c8d2-4b16-9b03-d376e5470d18 If you land on the road, walk out on the open sand area. Cleaning up means that you delete what you have placed there before you leave. Most times by deleting them, or else you can take them back in your inventory. This is courtesy to the sandbox owner and the others who use the sandbox. A land can not hold an infinite number of items, we call them prims, but the 100% correct term is land impact. So you pick up your stuff when you are done, so it's not counting as land impact.. As long as it is on the ground, we say it's "rezzed" it is taking up land impact. Sandbox owners know people forget it, so they set land to "auto return" so it is cleaned every 2, 3 or 4 hour. But it is still nice and polite to clean up after you, but if you crash and are logged out in a sandbox, it is no disaster. It will eventually be cleaned up.
  7. Can you clarify if you are banned from accessing Second Life, or banned from the group, or banned from the land? Because Linden Lab should have sent you an email.
  8. And also, even if you can put up an ugly wall, you can not texture it with images ot words the TOS does not permit.
  9. Oh yes, the felting needles is superb. They are not smooth, so the tiny "barbs" is doing a satisfying damage when pulled out. Much better than the common needle.
  10. Is it really all furniture? The first I thought, was that someone played you a prank and edited all poses down. Is your furniture set so owner only or group only can adjust it? I had a squatter using my sunbed before I found out. The sunbed was not rezzed with "owner only" as default, but "all avatars" as default. Is your avatar sinking into ground when standing? If so, your hoover height is too low. I would check it. Sometimes I hit the wrong button and does not notice it when standing. I would try a relog if it really is only you that can use the furniture. It is so many times that SL has a glitch.
  11. John Norman is the pseudonym for the real author, Donald Trump. Few know that he had a writing career.
  12. It is a shape, that will not look the same without the components Catwa head plus the skin. I guess it is the most common Catya head. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/CATWA-HEAD-Catya-DEMO/16319806 And if you wear the included picture of the shape, nothing will happen. If you wear the shape itself, it will look deformed without the Catwa head, since it is not meant for a classic avatar. Edit: You can not take off a shape, you must replace it. So make a note of the shape name you wear before you try on demo shapes. Or else you must try on all the shapes in your inventory before you are back to your look. And as said, the shapes for mesh heads can look really ugly without the head itself.
  13. Jasonbodylanguage has some free dances on the Marketplace, and people like them enough to leave glowing reviews. To be honest, some can let alts buy things and leave reviews, but this looks genuine. And since they are free, the worst you risk is that you don't like them. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/178868?utf8=✓&search[layout]=gallery&search[category_id]=&search[sort]=price_asc&search[per_page]=96&search[keywords]=&search[price_low]=&search[price_high]=&search[land_impact_low]=&search[land_impact_high]=&search[copy_permission]=0&search[modify_permission]=0&search[transfer_permission]=0 After you put them in your cart and will check out, make sure that you scroll down to the bottom of the page and find a new "place your order" tab. Those who have only freebies in their cart, must always scroll down a page with ads before they can empty the cart and get the items delivered in their inventory.
  14. Here is an example of dance balls, it is one red to the left, for female dances, one rainbow colored for couples that looks like two bubbles together, and one blue for male dances. The single animation dance balls here has the text "move" on them. The couple dance balls has the floating text over. If you will dance with a partner, you click the couple dance ball and it will send 2 colored balls in front of you. They are usually very oldfashioned colored with pink for the female and blue for the male. You "sit" on the pink and your Beau "sit" on the blue. You will both get a pop-up window that asks for permission to animate your avatar. You will not dance before you click "yes". Danceballs have many dances, click on it again to get up the menu if you will change dance. Notice how small the dancers under are. The dance balls are placed really high up in this club.
  15. Yes, that is possible, that they sold a stylecard. For 10 000? Lol. Maybe. Anyone can sell a picture and set the price as they want. Even if they took a screenshot of the OP and used it in advertising, it is not against the TOS, I think? " Consent is not required for any snapshots. " http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Snapshot_and_machinima_policy#.28a.29_Land_Owner_Consent_for_Snapshots_and_Machinima
  16. It is free inside what Linden Lab allows. Free as long as you don't break the TOS. I have a feeling that the OP mean freedom in another sense than ugly buildings.
  17. I am glad to see you came back and posted again, that you weren't scared off by the tread going hijacked. It is much friendly teasing here. The confusion you feel is because Linden Lab does not provide us with much content. Users, or residents, is creating and selling, and their bodies can rarely be worn with others. Linden Lab will encourage this, since the SL creative economy comes from user-created content. That is why their mesh starter avatars can not be modified. They want people to move over to one of the user-created mesh bodies and heads. I understand that the way SL is operating is totally different from other virtual worlds and games and it takes time to get used to it. It is a lot of "slang", names of content creators, names of mesh parts, names of scripting systems used for avatars. This list of FAQ is a bit old, but it is a good source. http://meshbodyaddicts.com/mesh-body-tutorials/faqaboutmeshbodiesandheads/ The FAQ over does not include Bento. Bento is short for Project Bento: https://community.secondlife.com/blogs/entry/2080-project-bento-live-on-the-grid/ When we talk about "Bento", we mean mesh made that use Bento Bones. My head has the full name LeLutka Simone Bento. Store name LeLutka, Simone identify the head as the "Simone" head and not one of the others made by LeLutka. Bento tell that it can be animated with Bento animations. Ask for advice before you spend money is SL, all this is very much to grasp and it is possible to be scammed, or as new, you can buy things that does not work as you thought. Do not buy a mesh avatar before yo have read about the free ones. They are excellent to try out how all this stuff works. As freebies, they may not have as much versatility as the paid for bodies. https://ryanschultz.com/2018/09/24/second-life-steals-deals-and-freebies-free-mesh-heads-and-bodies-for-female-second-life-avatars/
  18. To clarify, the OP does not mention what she was wearing four years ago. I looked up her posts, to see if we had a content creator here. Her posts 4 years back in time does not indicate that she is a creator, she is asking questions related to Lolas and Phat Azz. So I concluded that she had bought what she was wearing in 2014, and could not fill a DMCA due to that. I am thinking that there is an old grudge here, where someone inspected what she was wearing and got it, maybe ripped her skin, something LL can not prove so they would not do anything about it. Maybe they teased the OP and lied about that they sold her avatar. There is no way that an avatar with so old and outdated parts would be selling today. And not for that price.
  19. Four years ago when you were using Phat Azz? And the one who copybotted it is still selling it.... not likely. For 10 K anybody can pick top shelf mesh head and body, with money left for hair and clothes. It would be the owner of the body parts you were using that should file a DMCA. Your posts for 4 years ago say nothing about you creating, but that you are using Lolas Tangos and Phat Azz.
  20. It sounds like placing out a platform - like base, and then any house you want on it, and decorate it as you would on the ground. The "skybox" part here must be that the base should look nice too, and be low Li. 2 options: Spend Li on the base that you will only see if you fly under it, or just go for a simple base with a neutral texture on the underside, like sky and clouds. And then put anything on it. The Rainforest Hideaway should be a nice one? https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Scarlet-Creative-Rainforest-Hideaway/15538959
  21. Only things like curtains and dining chairs is really needed in large numbers. (for me) Schultz Broz has a rezzing pad for gachas that exchanges them to a copy/no trans. Same has DRD. I am so slow discovering things in Firestorm, but I could search, let us say the letter "a" and then filter it to show just matches with that letter on THIS parcel only, and with TRANSFER permissions. Returned only results like gachas, the few prims I made myself, and 3D trees ( that I bought no copy). Repeat this a few times with different letters, then select a large clump of items on the land and delete it. If you get message that at least 1 item is no copy, then you still miss one no copy. It is tedious but it's also tempting, since gachas 1 or 2 years back is sold for almost nothing. So unless something is really expensive, not trouble replacing it.
  22. It has been very harsh calling out on TMP mesh bodies and heads in the avatar section. It's not removed, and I think it is because it's not a personal grudge, and it is given reasons for it.
  23. And I found your store easy by typing in "Furlgrimr" in MP search. 😉 I should call my store "Jevgenigkeit". But it is too long. I thought it was a German word until I googled it. I must have made it up myself. Lazy typists will shorten it to "JK" anyway. 🤔 If I sold mesh bodies or heads, I would call it "WAMA". World Advanced Mesh Avatars. There are some hits in real life like a radio station named WAMA, but search those letters and "Second Life", and it would give an unique answer. One must have something special in Second Life, it does not have to be special all over the world. And not copyrighted like Disney or Adidas, of course.
  24. I am now traveling Heterocera. Wow, how well it is done. I started in Velox, and travel first SLRR - no need for a train yet, it is a small wagon that can be rezzed, so route 4, and a long trip in the atill, and now route 3. Try to type Velox to find it.
  25. If I ever have a clothes store, I will have a unique name. Did I tell you all that I could not find "Not Found" skin store? Guess what you get when you try to type that. Blogposts and threads about missing inventory.... I would use a name generator, and alsy test to type in the name on the MP, to avoid stores with the same name.
