  1. I'm looking at getting an update server, I was wondering what features I should be looking for, and any advice on using them. The one I'm looking at has a server and a script that goes in the item to be sold, that checks when it's rezzed or attached. Not sure how reliable that is, or if like a magic box if it would be best to have a server in more then one sim?
  2. Suck to be stuck on low setting , I was there for over a year when my graphics card died on my last computer. Cheapest thing to try would be to upgrade your graphics card, depending on how old your computers is. I don't think the computer I had when I first got in to SL 5 years ago would run SL of today very well, and it cost 2.5 times as much as my current one. A computers age is measured in dog years
  3. One thing I noticed as that if you select Land as a requirement it all ways assumes you need to unpack "This item requires that you have access to land in Second Life in order to unpack and use it." I don't see too many customers complaining about discovering that they don't need to unpack, compared to discovering the impracticality of wearing a house, but may be wearing houses could be a new trend, I can imagine what it might look like if a club had a best in house contest lol
  4. I'm just wonder if that one item that you had the issue was a one time problem for that item or if it all ways doesn't pay you, yes it's strange that you got it the first time.
  5. If it's just the one item and it keeps happening then it may be just that one is lost in the data base or some thing, that would suggest why some people are having this issues and other are not, or why others don't see it because they are getting sales from their other items. All so how long has passed sence you made the transaction, wondering if it shows up late. Let me know what item it was and I'll buy it to test it again.
  6. In cases like this you can email LL security directly, but it's only for reporting the security issue, other account issue caused by it would need to be dealt with separately. Not sure if you did that or not, but thought this would be good for others to know to. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Security_issues http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Email_Scam_%28Phishing%29_FAQ

  8. The last market place update happened at the same time as a 7 hour rolling restart of the main server group which may have added to fewer people shopping, and the new server changes changed a lot so people may be looking in to that or fixing things that got borken, all so new record low for concurrency in the last few days. http://gridsurvey.com/economy.php
  9. I originally posted the link because I thought they might answer some of the questions people were asking in the server forum, I added that comment at the end, because once again many of the answers that people need are there, but not easy to find. Now that the post has been moved it shows in both places which works out better. I've been testing path finding scripts for months now, but I only own a small parcel of land on the main land, so wasn't able to opting in to enable path finding on my land early. Some one with a full sim has a lot more options for dealing with path finding. For some one on a sim with out a single region owner theres no option to turn it off so optimizing is our best option. The sim I'm in has 2 other land owners, one of them is LL. Each owner will need to optimize their part of region. Small land owners are the ones to must likely not be aware of all the changes, it seams to me that the the path finding info should have been made more visible for every one. Especially since the default setting for objects is the least efficient from my understanding.
  10. Found this on the phoenixviewer web page, has some info on the separation of pathfinding and new physics changes, good to know if you want to turn off pathfinding, all so they have the instructions to turn off pathfinding if you wish to do so. http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/pf_questions http://www.phoenixviewer.com/ If regions have to be manually optimized, why isn't LL putting this info in the face of every land owner, currently only people who read the server forum or have an interest in pathfinding are like to even know about this.
  11. Apparently I've avoided your problem with having unwanted photos, by not discovering the feature your talking about lol
  12. Had to switch viewer to find the memory allaction. the region I'm in is at 214.5MB with 10 people in the sim, went to a empty sim and it was 40.0 MB. I'm wondering how the combined effects of pathfind, project shining, and region idling, have on all of this, or will. It sounds like a region can have more then it's normal resources and that more might be being done server side or will be, all so the new more powerfull servers this year. Lately I'm having problems with teleporting and crashes but thats been going on for me for a few weeks now.
  13. How are you checking memory allocation that's not some thing I have looked at before. Just checked my frame rate it's around 95/115 fps, then tried adding a path finding creature to my land, and the fps went up to around 122/134 fps, and that's with 14 avatars in the sim. I can think of a few problems with pathfinding so far, one if your not using a viewer that has the updates for it yet, you wont see the rebake region button if you edit the terrain, the other is that all objects look like they are set to movable or movable phantom by default and supposedly are not as efficient as some of the other settings. I'm curious about the memory allocation I wonder if part of the shinning project LL, will allocate more memory to each sim instead of just stuffing more sims per new server.
  14. Can you give us some more detail about the chages your seeing, how does it compare to this. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Mesh/Rendering_weight My base avatar is still correct. I have no idea what a box or torus weight was before the roll out, but one thing noticed is that changing the physics shape type doesn't change the value of the avatar render weight. I have no Idea if that changed with the roll out. I tested this by attaching a link set with a box as root and 2 torus as child prims, first all set to prim, and then the 2 torus set to none, and then all set to convex hull. When I first read your post I was hoping we could use the new LI to reduce avatar draw cost but doesn't look like we can. Hadn't checked mine in months so don't have any thing to compare to the changes the roll out may have caused.
  15. Currently only people using the pathfinding viewer will get the region reset button when some thing changes, that is likely to change. First avatar to click it clears it for ever one else. At least in the region I'm in this seams to only take 2 to 3 seconds to update, may take longer if there's lots of changes at one time, haven't tried with lot of changes so don't know. My alt was able to move around during the reset. Rezzing objects and new avatars in my test didn't trigger an region reset. Last night while testing my viewer would freeze for a few seconds (5 to 10) every time I made any change in the linkset window, I didn't notice that today.
  16. I found this which tell you how to set it up, but you must have estate manager rights, it all so say that it is now enabled on all Linden Owned mainland regions. I'm on a region that is part owned by LL, the region says it's on, but doesn't look like it's working. The link all so list a few known bugs that wont get detected. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Parcel_encroachment
  17. I have land on the adult mainland, there is a lot of LL content in the region, I can't see any of it in the pathfinding linkset window, all the other content I can see is set to movable object so will need to be optimized. Is the LL content all ready optimized or are there plans to do so?
  18. For DD I would use the latest LL viewer 3-3-4-262321 it had a fix for the merchant outbox issue. The latest firestorm all so has an outbox fix, not sure about other TPVs. LL last updated viewer 2 a year ago, DD came out in march this year , I don't think DD will work on viewer 2, at best you might be able to receive items but not up load them.

  20. Attica Bekkers wrote: People are saying that mainland and linden land simply cannot have events planned on it, if true this a disaster for the lab. . At the core of SL is community and even relative hermits want to use their land and maybe show stuff to people.. I think every Sler,or at lhe least every premium Sler, DOES have the right to expect that the lindens will respond straight away if they cant attend or run or plan an event because of griefing. Second life looks bad to someone, perhaps many someones, everytime an event fails to happen. Fixing that event should have taken five minutes maximum. They will be (already have been) spending around twenty times that long responding to the ticket and explaining why they didnt act. They really will be. I hate to think how many man hours they have spent following up on this one issue for this one event, every week. Gosh if they just came for less than five minutes every time we needed, over a year and half that would have added up to a total spend of time less than the time it is taking them in NOT taking five minutes (three minutes if they were good and had clue about how to do it) for this single time- last Sundays event! Here's the problem even if LL showed up to your event and banned all the grieffres there, it wouldn't do any good, grieffer don't have just one account they have many and can all ways just make more, so they will just keep coming back, and the more you do to get rid of them the more they take that as a challenge. Every RL friend I've tried to get in to SL has left because of grieffers, I'd love to see LL do some thing, but there's not much they can do to stop this on public land with open building and scripting for every one, with out limiting what people can do in SL or forcing every one to have a premium account, which wouldn't be good for SL. A lot of other people have tried to get LL to do some thing about this sadly nothing has changed, vortex is a great example if your looking for what to do to change this and want to see what other people have tried. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion/Vortex-the-future/m-p/1446657#M1708

But currently the only way your going to have any control over an event is to have it some place you have access to the land setting. You don't need a premium account for that you just need to have the right group abilities.
  22. Sounds like what happens in the the vortex sandbox, there's a long history of people asking LL to help there with the grieffing, and LL not doning anything. I don't think LL will do any thing, it makes a great advertisement for getting a premium account. It's the price we pay for having free anonymous accounts, with diverse building and scripting tools. Reporting a future crime is probably not a good idea. The only way your going to have any control over your event is to have it some place you have access to the land setting.

(yes, 1984 was a BIG year, as big as 2000) Not so sure your right on this one, might not all ways be the government, but if it's there then the government can some times get access to it too, specially if it's over the internet. If were not there yet were getting closer. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/mar/02/cctv-cameras-watching-surveillance http://theweek.com/article/index/228830/the-drone-over-your-backyard-a-guide http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NSA_warrantless_surveillance_controversy http://www.googleprivacyinvasion.com/ For doomsday predictions my favorite is, 5 days after the earth really ends some one will predict it's still there.
  24. Looks promising, but all so looks like it would be up to LL to make SL compatible with it. Until that hapens I have a Thompson eye-phone on pre order, hopping it will be here soon...
