  1. This chart is way out of date, but it's interesting to see what LL use to do in response to ARs.   Looking at the chart it looks like you really have to mess up to over and over to get banned, after looking at 25 pages I din't see any banning.  Most just get a warning, and for the short suspensions, some people may have just not logged in that day any way and missed their penalty.  So even when LL dose respond one they will never tell you what was done, and the first few times they do something it won't have any effect that can be seen.

If LL dosen't take care of it there's the options to block/mute/derender/bann from land.

If some one is a determined griefer then there's very little LL can do, griefers just keep making more new accounts which is why you see so many griefers that are 0 days old.  Actually that's a good sign that LL is at least trying to do some thing.

It's amazing how fast a good product will be found, bought and sell continuously. No marketing required.

But blogs are good for people who enjoy doing that sort of thing and spending time on it. For me, I like to spend all my time making my items as good as they could be. And it does take time, lots of time - with none to spare on any marketing that gets such minimal results.

When I shop on MP, I do a search and concentrate on the most popular items. I also watch 'what customers are buying now'.

So I'm in the 'word of mouth' camp. So, how do you get your items noticed and spoken about? See my second sentence.

    more of this  ^

I do zero marketing, I've tried but just dosen't work for what I make, and I'm hard to find on the marketplace.  For me the key to good products getting found on there own (for rezzable objects), is all about how customers place them inworld.  Every item sold and rezzed some place where other people can see and click on it, becomes an advertisement.  300 items sold and rezzed becomes 300 advertisements.

I think most word of mouth sales come from when some one ask a friend where's a good pace to shop, when they can't find what their looking for.  People see things every where they go every time they log in.  This assumes people know how to click on an item to find the creator, if they don't that might lead to word of mouth when they ask the owner where did you get that, even here seeing it first is key.  One sale to the right person with a visible high traffic area can make a product successfull very quickly.

I don't remember where I first clicked on one of your sailboats it was a few years back, but I bought it after seeing it inworld, great boat by the way.

If someone finds out you hate a certain race of people, is that their fault or yours? If it is found out you plan to bomb a particular place and they stop you, who should be mad? You that they stopped you? I hope everyone is spying on everyone to keep you retards from messing everything up.

and it does seem to help but only if the viewing avatar's camera is positioned close to the sphere. If a camera is positioned farther away maybe 20 m or so, the scale change doesn't help any longer. I guess the server considers an objects farther away less interesting.

I found that the version Innula posted works better then the single prim twist version, not a 100% but better.

Haven't time to tried it combined with the scaling on rez yet to see how that works.  Thought he scaling was triggering because of changes in the objects LOD but looks like its related to the interest list,(see LepreKhaun comment a few above this one)  so some of the other things that might trigger it are right clicking on the object, rotation, and movement. My next experiment is going to be trying the on rez script changing rotation and or position, and less drastic scaling :)

  5. I think it's the GPU that we need to check,  just starting to look in to that,  looks like for windows you need to down load a GPU meter,  not sure about a iMac

I just turned my computer to high performance which normal immediately turns the fan on and it didn't this time so the MaxFPS may be working, but just doesn't show in the statistics window.  Even went to the laggyiest place I know and my computer is not wining about it, still took time to load but no complaining :)

  6. I just heard about the MaxFPS setting in the debug settings.   I set mine  to 30 but I don't see any changes in the statistics window, there's it's still bouncing over 100 at times.  Is the statistics window showing me what I would be running at if I didn't  have the MaxFPS set, or dose this mean I don't have it set right?  I'm using firestorm as my viewer but all so tested the LL viewer and get the same results.

Thanks Innula, I've been using the twisted 1 prim version, I tried yours and got a bit better results, the twisted version doesn't seem to change unless I move but the 2 prim version does after a little time.  One of my ideas was to use this effect in a laboratory table as an x-ray scanner, the 2 prim version might give me more control over that.

I don't know if it's any consolation -- or maybe further aggravation -- but I spent about an hour fiddling with a silhouette ball when I saw your post. To be honest, it took me maybe ten minutes just to remember how they work (I don't think I've seen one in the wild for four years) and then none of the usual tricks to force an object update seemed to help with your problem. Then, after an unrelated crash, I happened to login with one of the things already in view and it rezzed to the viewer incorrectly right from the start, so that convinced me that it was going to be pretty ugly to script around a second-order glitch in what's kind of a viewer glitch anyway.

There are people who like to hack around on this sort of stuff, but at heart it's not really a scripting problem.

From my understanding of it, this is realted to alph sorting which appears glichy but from what  Chosen Few  says in this post here, so I'm not sure I'm ready to call it a glich in the same way invisiprims were/are

All so LepereKhaunhas provided some links and insight as to what my script is doing involving avatar's interest list.  You can find his comment here

I'm not one of those people looking around for hacks, I tend to fall in to the trap of finding some thing that intrest me and finding a use for it then finding it's a hack or has other issues.   Which is why i'm looking in to this now before I but some thing on the market.

:)  lol   I suppose that I'm better at scripting off then some one that doesn't know when to use a float or integer when counting the number of legs a Nat has,  only need to use a float if the Nat's missing part of a leg :)

If you are trying to defeat the "automatic alpha mask" feature, the last line ought to be enough, but should only be used if the texdture on every face actually has an alpha channel. You can do this in the SL editor, just set transparency on that face to 1%; a script for this seems odd.

This trick does hurt viewer performance, so I hope you are only using it where it's really necessary.

    Thanks Cerise

I working with a silhouette dance ball effect and need to force viewers to resort alpha textures when the object first rezzes.  The silhouette doesn't look right until some one changes their camera view ether by moving or zooming in and out, this only happens when the object is first rezzed.

So I managed to force it with the script I posted.  I've tried several variation so far and only this combination so far works,  just using the last line would set the effect on the prim, but dosent trigger the viewer seeing it, untill some one moves.

Sense an avatar moving has the same effect as the script I posted above, I thought may be to script the object to change position back and forth instead of changing size might work but haven't had time to do so yet.  Would that be easer on the viewer?  All so thought of for the avatar sitting on the object I could script a change in camera view, but that wouldn't effect avatars near by looking at the object.

  11. I posted a question about this yesterday with a longer explanation and got no reply, I saw your post here

    http://community.secondlife.com/t5/LSL-Scripting/return-command/td-p/2360749

and thought I'd repost with a simpler question sense yours seam to get a lot of replies.

If correct then I need to find the best way to force that recalculation.  If correct about needing to force the viewer to recalculate then what's the best way to force it.  Thought it might be one of those geeky question programmers would want to talk about kind of like this post

if you not sure what a silhouette dance ball is here's a link to an example all thou I'm using a different method to build it by twisting the sphere 180 degrees.

I seem to have a hard time asking questions to this forum and getting a reply, I  thought may be it's the way I'm asking the question.  I see this post got lots of answers, so would this be a good example of how to post a question, specially sense I'm mostly looking for how, if, and or way some thing works and not needing help writing the script ?  I'd really like to learn more about how/why things in LSL work.

lol apparently no one here was shamed enough to reply to my last post so I deleted it.  May be I need to make a new alt every time I want to ask a question here.  Nothing personal Madelaine this comment is more directed to how the LSL forum seems to run.  Being nether new to sl, or a rl programmer, it seems hard for me to ask questions in a way that gets an answer on this forum.

  14. Thanks Amethyst, I got caught up in looking for info on the Silhouette effect and wasn't thinking of it  as a alpha sorting problem.  I looked up alpha sorting after reading your reply, and was able to find some info that explains why my attempts to script a forced viewer refresh may be  working, for the problem I posted in the LSL forum.  Currently I'm changing prim size back and forth,  camera angle seams to be  one of the issues so may trying moving the object back and forth or some rotation might all so work.

Here's a really useful post if any ones else is looking for info on alpha sorting.

  15. Silhouette dance ball effect, is it bug or just a prim trick.  I'm looking at using this effect in some thing I'd like to sell, but don't want to do so, if it's some thing that is likely to get fixed/broken by LL like the invisiprim.

I use a different building technique(180 twist), but this video show the effect I'm using, for those of you not familiar with it.

So why would Linden Lab give up running its own primary revenue source (Marketplace)?

It was my understanding that LL doesn't even consider the market place as RL $ revenue, if they did then they would have put more time in to making it run correctly, and would have charged to list free items like they said  they were going to do a few years back.  LL bought out xstreet and onrezz and then pretty much dumped their systems, I think  It was a move to gain more control over the SL economy,  and not as a source of revenue.

Land tire is LL primary source of revenue.

I'd love to see LL sell the market place to someone that has a vested interest in having merchants succeed, and I have to wonder what Amazon would think of hosting the 168,106 items currently on the marketplace that LL gets no commision form.
